If your mouse is not working and you don't wish to wait till you get a new mouse, you would definitely like to know how you can use your keyboard as your mouse. It is easy to use your mouse as keyboard in Windows using the On Screen Keyboard utility,

but it is also possible to do the reverse. All you need to do is

Windows XP Users:-

Go to Control Panel.
Then click on Switch to Classic View.
Then Click on Accessibility Options.
Then Click on the Mouse Tab.
Select Use MouseKeys.
Click on OK.
Then activate NumberLock (by pressing the NumLk key).
You should hear a beep sound.
Now you can control the mouse pointer using the arrow keys on the numeric keypad.

Windows 8, Windows 7 and Vista Users:

Open Ease of Access Center by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking Ease of Access Center.
Click Make the mouse easier to use.
Under Control the mouse with the keyboard, select the Turn on Mouse Keys check box.

You can also increase the acceleration and speed of your mouse movements according to your needs.

You can alternately press the Alt+Shift+Num Lock combination to instantly activate the mouse keys.

For laptops, this will only work if your laptop keyboard has a numeric keypad or alternative keys which you can enable by pressing the Number Lock Key or the Function key.

On my laptop, number 6 key of the numeric keypad moves the mouse pointer left, number 4 key moves the mouse pointer right, number 2 key moves it down, number 8 key moves the mouse pointer up, number 5 and + key serve as right click while the number 0 key works as left click.

Keyboards usually have small LEDs which indicate whether different types of locks are activated or not. Here is a trick to use the lights of your keyboard in a more creative manner in Windows.

This trick uses a simple Visual Basic Script which when activated makes your Scroll lock, Caps lock and Num lock LEDs flash in a cool rhythmic way which gives the perception of a live disco on your keyboard.

To make your own live disco, follow the steps given below:-

1. Open Notepad.
2. Copy paste the exact code given below:-

The Trick:

While this is not actually new, many people have no idea about this feature. Since 2011, Facebook has allowed users to chat with their friends using custom emoticons, and now you can too. Just by getting a page’s or a profile’s ID or username, Facebook will let you use their profile pictures as your chat emoticon in thumbnails…

*note this only works in the Facebook Chat and not in updates.

How to Do it:

1) Go to any profile, official Page, or event that you want to use as an emoticon.

2) Look for the profile ID at the end of the URL, such as “Mcdonalds” from https://www.facebook.com/McDonalds

3) Place that username or number in double brackets like [[Mcdonalds]]

Note: Pages with no username /vanity URL e.g https://www.facebook.com/McDonalds have default ID numbers displayed on their URLs (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Socially-Awkward-Penguin/98438140742). So when you cannot find a profile or a page’s username, just refer to the numbers at the end of the URL, instead.

How to Get the Good Bits of Windows 8 on 7

Tiles

Metro Tiles are the most prominent feature in Microsoft’s new operating system, being the main form of navigation on the start screen. There are many applications that add this feature to other Windows versions as it is very popular.

Omnimo UI is a free RainMeter skin with an additional premium pack. There are hundreds of tiles and several expansion packs for you to add, customise, and use on your Windows installation. Unlike Windows 8, these tiles sit on your desktop, instead of having their own separate start screen.

Stardock Tiles display live tiles of your software in a sidebar on your desktop. It doesn’t have many features other than this, so won’t be a suitable full replacement for Microsoft’s own tiles.

Mosaic is another alternative that adds several live tiles to a start screen of its own. Although there far less tiles in Mosaic than some similar applications, it still runs very well and gives Metro’s experience proficiently.

Newgen offers you the ability to display information from both your computer and websites such as FaceBook in the form of Tiles, replacing your Aero desktop.

Metro 7 lets you scroll through the few tiles it has and install more from its store, and includes the Windows 8 lock screen in the installation too.

Charm Bar

The Charm Bar introduced in Windows 8 is the universal toolbar that you can access from both the Metro and Desktop. This allows you search your device much like you can from the Start Menu in Windows 7, share information through social networks, open the Start Menu, view and configure peripherals, and get to the Control Panel.

Using a custom RocketDock skin, you can have a dock that looks exactly like Windows 8′s Charm Bar and replicate its functions, or even customise it to do what you require that RocketDock can. You can download the skin here.

Alternatively, you can use a RainMeter skin, giving you the same design and features as the Windows 8 Charm Bar, but far less customisability than the RocketDock counterpart. Download it here.

The Metro Start Menu is a different approach – it replaces the default start menu with a much cut-down version, leaving only functions from the Charm Bar.

Boot Screen

While it’s not something you’d look at for long or possibly even care about, the new boot screen no longer has the colourful Windows flag we’re used to, or the fancy animation found in Vista and 7. There are a few boot menu tweaks that can be used to emulate this, such as these three here.

Task Manager

The new Task Manager has a redesigned UI and far more features, compared to the one found in previous versions of Windows. You can do xxx.

While it doesn’t give the full Windows 8 application’s experience, this Metro styled Task Manager gives the compact view that only allows you to end processes and restart explorer.exe. This is a separate application, it doesn’t tweak the original Task Manager.

Quick Access Menu

Windows 8 has a quick access menu which you can bring up with the hotkeys WIN+X. This context menu has several buttons which you can use to navigate to the control panel, task manager, and many other computer management applications built into Windows. This shortcut on previous versions of Windows brings up the Mobility Center.

WinPlusX replicates this feature for previous versions of Windows, and even allows you to add/remove your own buttons so you can customise the menu the way you like it.

Lock/Login Screen

The Metro Lock Screen is a minimalistic screen that shows when an account is locked or the device has just been booted. It displays a picture for the background, as well as the date and time. by following my simple steps

Here is a step by step guide on how to remove WGA manually from your PC.

1) Go to the Start Menu and click on Run;

2) Type ‘system32’ (without quotes) in the box and click ok;

3) Click on the ‘Tools’ tab at the top of the ‘system32’ window. Then click on the ‘Folder Options’ in the drop-down menu and then click on ‘View’;

4) Click to un-check the box beside "Hide extensions for known file types", click on ‘Apply’ and then click on ‘OK’;

5) Find the file ‘WgaLogon.dll’ and rename it with an extension. For example you can rename the file as ‘WgaLogon1.dll’ or ‘WgaLogon.dll1’. When you see a message warning you against the change of name of the file, click on ‘yes’;

6) Now go to ‘system32’ window again, locate and delete the ‘WgaTray.exe’ file and instantly open the ‘Task Manager’ window to end 'WgaTray.exe' ( Be quick enough while removing the ‘WgaTray.exe’ file as the program will pop up again within seconds after you end it);

7) Click on the "Processes" tab, select ‘WgaTray.exe’ and click on the "End Process" button;

8) Now go back to ‘System32’ window and remove the extension you gave to ‘WgaLogon.dll’. For example, if you renamed the file as WgaLogon1.dll, then change it back to ‘WgaLogon.dll’;

9) Reboot the computer to let the change take place;

The most weird error which Windows user sometimes get is USB device not recognized error. In this condition doesn’t matter which USB device you insert in your computer, Windows will not detect it. You change the port and still error remains the same!

Yesterday while working on my PC my all the devices suddenly got disconnected and when I removed them and inserted them back I got USB device not recognized error in Windows 7, it had also appeared Windows XP earlier. I tried to change the ports but nothing happened. I went into Windows registry and tried to tweak settings there but no success. I read somewhere that in this condition one should reinstall device drivers and then try again, following the same I reinstalled device driver of my USB modem and then pluged it back but I was still getting USB device not recognized error.

I searched on Google about the solution and then I was recommended to uninstall device from Device Manager, I did the same and restarted PC but error still didn’t got away.

After getting tired of all this, I finally got the solution and it’s the easiest solution which I every came too, you must be too amazed to know about super simple solution to fix USB device not recognized error in Windows.

To fix USB device not recognized error just unplug your computer from main power board and then plug back the computer to power supply. You must be thinking that by Unplug I mean turning off the computer ? Well, unplug here doesn’t mean turning off the computer instead you have to first shutdown your computer then remove power cord from power supply and keep it in condition for few minutes and then plug it back and restart your computer and plug in your USB device and it will start working again.

Wondering How did it work ?
Since your computer(or laptop) is connected with UPS(or battery), it has small amount of power going in it even though it is off. Sometimes some circuitry error may disable some functions such as USB recognizing and you get USB device not recognized error or similar feature. Unplugging turn offs the power supply and your computer gets a ‘chance’ to load all the drivers again and there you go, the problem get’s fixed!
