Let the Lord have His way in your life every day
There’s no peace, there’s no rest
Until the Lord has His way.
Place your life in His hands
Rest secure in His plan
Let the Lord, let the Lord have His way.

These are the words to a Sunday School song, such a few words; but the reminder is so strong. Perfect rest comes from complete commitment to God’s will.

Psalms 37:3-7 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

Psalms 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:
And Grandchildren are doubly precious.

Priorities

There is time enough
For things that matter
the quiet flow of conversation
The gentle closeness of a lullaby;
There is time

There is time enough
For things that matter
For picture books and nursery rhymes
And wild romps upon the floor
And laughter. . .
There is always time for laughter.

So often in the rushing to and waiting for,
The moment is negated

Slow down.
Take time.
Surrender to the moment.

There is time enough
For the things that matter.
There is time enough
For love.
Elizabeth Keller Robinson

Psalms 78:4-7 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

Psalms 46:10-11
Be still, and know that I am God:
I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah.

Be still, and know that I am God Cease from your provocations of the Divine justice; cease from murmuring against the dispensations of his providence; cease from your labor for a season, that ye may deeply reflect on the severity and goodness of God - severity to those who are brought down and destroyed; goodness to you who are raised up and exalted: - cease from sin and rebellion against your God; let that disgrace you no more, that we may no more be brought into distress and desolation.

Know that I am God - Understand that I am the Fountain of power, wisdom, justice, goodness, and truth.

I will be exalted among the heathen - By the dispensation of punishments, the heathen shall know me to be the God of justice; by the publication of my Gospel among them, they shall know me to be the God of goodness.

I will be exalted in the earth - I will have my salvation proclaimed in every nation, among every people, and in every tongue.

The Lord of hosts is with us - Having heard these declarations of God, the people cry out with joy and exultation, The Lord of hosts, the God of armies, is with us; we will not fear what man can do unto us.

The God of Jacob is our refuge - He who saved our fathers will save us, and will never abandon his people in distress.

Selah - This is a firm, lasting, unshaken, well-tried truth.

Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Exodus 16:13-14 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

Exodus 16:16-17 This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

Enough for Today

God liberated his children from slavery and created a path through the sea. H gave them a cloud to follow by day and a fire to see at night. And he gave them food. H met their most basic need: He filled their bellies. Each morning the manna came. Each evening the quail appeared. “Trust me and I will give you what you need.” The people were told to take just enough for one day. Their needs would be met, one day at a time. “Just enough for today,” was God’s message. “Let me worry about tomorrow.” The Father wanted the people to trust Him Max Lucado And the angels were silent

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his
compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy
faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I
hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. Lamantations 3:21-26

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going

Willing to Work, Willing to Wait

Lord, what he said was,

“You can have instant coffee, and instant tea, and instant potatoes, but you can’t have instant relationships.”
And he was right.

We can’t measure out a portion of ourselves to each other, and stir once, and be friends
Or measure out an instant prayer, and beat with a fork until fluffy.
For “instant” never quite satisfies like the real.
And a depth relationship has a mutual history of shared joy and anguish.
It is a mellowed blend of caring and being cared for—

of listening--
of removing masks (which is seldom easy)--
of openness and honesty . . . without which
no relationship is valid.

Not with him. . . nor with them . . . nor with thee.
All of this takes time. And effort.

And expenditure of self.

So, Lord, why do I keep asking for instant communion?

Why am I not willing to put the same effort—the same care—into my relationship with Thee, that I have found necessary in my relationships with others?

Why am I so unwilling to wait?

So unwilling to apprentice my soul?

So reluctant to do my part?
Ah, Lord. I come. . . in joys and in anguish. . . in my moments of peace, and in my times of quiet desperation—
to sing,
to listen,
to pour out my humanness, to remove my masks. Amen.
----Jo Carr and Imogene Sorley

Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

Genesis 24:27 . . . I being in the way, the LORD led me to . . .

“The way” means God’s way, the pathway prepared for us; not our way; not any kind of way (Prov.14:12); not man’s way; but the direct way of duty and command. In such a way the Lord will be sure to lead and guide us. The Lord answered the servant’s prayer exactly as he prayed, step by step. “God never gives guidance for two steps at a time. I must take one step, and then I receive light for the next.” Fairelie Thornton

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Psalms 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows,
and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.
He was oppressed,
and he was afflicted,
Isaiah 53:3 -5, 7

Christ was chosen out of the people, that He might know our wants and sympathize with us. I believe some of the rich have no notion whatever of what the distress of the poor is. They have no idea of what it is to labor for their daily bread. They have a very faint conception of what a rise in the price of bread means; they do not know anything about it. And when we put men in power who never were of the people, they do not understand the art of governing us.

But our great and glorious Jesus Christ is one chosen out of the people; and therefore He knows our wants. Jesus suffered temptation and pain before us; our sickness He bore; weariness—He has endured it, for weary He sat by the well; poverty—He knows it, for sometimes He had no bread to eat save that bread of which the world knows nothing; (John 4:32-34) to be homeless—He knew that , too, for the foxes had holes and the birds of the air had nests, but He had nowhere to lay His head.

My fellow-Christian, there is no place where thou canst go, where Christ has not been before thee—sinful places alone excepted. He hath been before thee; He hath smoothed the way; He hath entered the grave, that He might make the tomb the royal bedchamber of the ransomed race, the closet where they lay aside the garments of labor to put o the vestments of eternal rest. In all places whithersoever we go, the Angel of the covenant has been our forerunner. Each burden we have to carry has once been laid on the shoulders of Immanuel.

His way was much rougher and darker than mine; Did Christ my Lo rd suffer and shall I repine?

Dear fellow-traveler, take courage.! Christ has consecrated the road Charles Spurgeon, Springs in the Valley

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

The Seasons of Life

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you,…. Amos 5:14

The Seasons of Life -- anonymous

There was a man who had four sons.He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things to quickly. So he sent them each one a quest, in turn, to go look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter
the second son in the spring
the third in summer
and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and returned. He called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first said that the tree was ugly, bent and twisted.
The second son said it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed, he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful. It was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man explained to his sons that they were all right because they had seen only one season in the trees life.]

He told them that you cannot judge a tree or a person by only one season. That the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy and love that comes from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it’s winter, You will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer and the fulfillment of your fall.

Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don’t judge life by one difficult season. Preserver through the difficult paths and better times are sure to come in time.

Happiness keeps you sweet
Trials keeps you strong
Sorrows keeps you human
Failures keeps you humble
Success keeps you growing
But God keeps you going.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

I Shall Not Want

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1).

There is a scene from “The Book of Eli” where a portion of the Twenty-third Psalm is quoted to a lady who has never heard anything from the Bible. She sits almost spellbound and listens with rapt attention. “That’s beautiful,” she says after the Eli finishes, “Did you write that?”

There is a power in God’s Word that moves us at the depths of our being. Our hearts are warmed and our spirits soar at the sound of His voice speaking to us through Scripture.

Psalm 23 serves as a most excellent example.

Take a few moments today and read it out loud, letting the truth of its claims settle deep in your heart: “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”

Isaiah prophesied, “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” (Isaiah 40:11).

Peter preached, “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:25).

David, himself a shepherd, penned the Twenty-third Psalm as a comprehensive tribute to the Lord. He encompasses in this short poem at least fifteen provisions that are made for us when we follow the Lord as our Shepherd.

I shall not be in want for…..
1. Rest – for He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
2. Peace – for He leadeth me beside the still waters
3. Restoration – for He restoreth my soul
4. Guidance – for He leadeth me in paths of righteousness
5. Honor – for His name’s sake
6. Hope – for I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
7. Courage – for I will fear no evil
8. Companionship – for Thou art with me
9. Comfort – for Thy rod and Thy staff comfort me
10. Sustenance – for Thou preparest a table before me
11. Vindication – in the presence of my enemies
12. Blessing – Thou anointest my head with oil
13. Fulness – for My cup runneth over
14. Abundant Life- for goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life
15. Eternal Security – for I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever

As you can see, there is nothing left out. No wonder David said, “I shall not want!” The Lord gives us everything we need when we follow Him as our Shepherd.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

The Old Landmarks

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. Proverbs 22:28

Among the property owned jointly by two young brothers who were carpenters was the old tumbledown place of their birth. One of the brothers was soon to be married and the old house was to be torn down and a new one erected on its site. For years neither of the brothers had visited the cottage, as it had been leased. as they entered now and started the work demolishing the place , again and again floods of tender memories swept over them. But the time they reached the kitchen they were well-nigh overcome with emotions. There was the place where the old kitchen table had stood—with the family Bible—where they had knelt every evening. They were recalling now with a pang how in later years they had felt a little superior to that time honored custom carefully observed by their father. Said one: “We’re better off than he was, but we’re not better men.” The other agreed, saying, “I’m going bask to the old church and the old ways, and in my new home I’m going to make room for worship as Dad did.”

The strength of a nation lies in the homes of its people. ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Says Dr. J. G. Paton: “No hurry for market, no rush for business, no arrival of friends or guests, no trouble or sorrow, no joy or excitement, ever prevented us from kneeling around the family altar while our high priest offered himself and his children to God.” And on his father’s life in his home was based Dr. Paton’s decision to follow the Lord wholly, “He walked with God—why not I?” Springs in the Valley, Cowman

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways,
and see, and ask for the old paths,
where is the good way, and walk therein,
and ye shall find rest for your souls.
Jeremiah 6:16

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

Delight in the Lord

But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psalms 1:2

from Clark’s commentary

…his will, desire, affection, every motive in his heart, and every moving principle in his soul, are on the side of God and his truth. He takes up the law of the Lord as the rule of his life; he brings all his actions and affections to this holy standard. He looketh into the perfect law of liberty; and is not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the word; and is therefore blessed in his deed. He not only reads to gain knowledge from the Divine oracles, but he meditates on what he has read, feeds on it; and thus receiving the sincere milk of the word, he grows thereby unto eternal life.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

I am thankful Jesus, our Savior,
finished the work the Father gave Him to do.
I have glorified thee on the earth:
I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
John 17:4

The story says that a traveler from Italy came to the French town of Chartres to see the great church that was being built there. Arriving at the end of the day, he went to the site just as the workmen were leaving for home. He asked one man, covered with dust, what he did there. The man replied that he was a stone mason. He spent his days carving rocks. Another man, when asked, said he was a glassblower who spent his days making slabs of colored glass. Still another workman replied that he was a blacksmith who pounded iron for a living. Wandering into the deepening gloom of the unfinished edifice, the traveler come upon an older woman, armed with a broom, sweeping up the stone chips and wood shavings and glass shards from the day’s work. ”What are you doing?” he asked. The woman paused, leaning on her broom, and looking up toward the high arches, replied, “Me? I’m building a cathedral for the Glory of Almighty God.”

I’ve often thought about the people of Chartres. They began something they knew they would never see completed. They built for something larger than themselves. They had a magnificent vision.

Each one of us are building. be it a family, a business, a work of art, a web site, a garden, a quilt, a sweater, a batch of cookies or dinner. We, too, may not see the end result of our labors. Our responsibility is to keep working…..

Colossians 3:17, 23
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.. . . And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

Like a Tree

Psalms 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

from Clarke’s commentary

Like a tree planted - Not like one growing wild, however strong or luxuriant it may appear; but one that has been carefully cultivated, and for the proper growth of which all the advantages of soil and situation have been chosen. … An uncultivated soul is like an uncultivated field, all overgrown with briers, thorns, and thistles.

His fruit in his season - In such a case expectation is never disappointed. Fruit is expected, fruit is borne; and it comes also in the time in which it should come.

Whatsoever he doeth shall prosper - It is always healthy; it is extending its roots, increasing its woody fibres, circulating its nutritive juices, putting forth fruit buds, blossoms, leaves, or fruit; and all these operations go on in a healthy tree, in their proper seasons. So the godly man; he is ever taking deeper root growing stronger in the grace he has already received, increasing in heavenly desires, and under the continual influence of the Divine Spirit, forming those purposes from which much fruit to the glory and praise of God shall be produced.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going

We can Choose:
a narrow gate or a wide gate (Matthew 7:13-14)
a narrow road or a wide road (Matthew 7:13-14)
the big crowd or the small crowd (Matthew 7:13-14)
We can choose:
build on rock or sand (Matthew 7:24-27)
serve God or riches (Matthew 6:24)
be numbered among the sheep or the goats
(Matthew 25:32-33)
God gives eternal choices, and these choices have eternal consequences.

One of God’s greatest gifts?

The gift of choice.

Max Lucado He Chose the Nails

Psalms 119:30 I have chosen the way of truth:
thy judgments have I laid before me.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’

Thinking Big

Four centuries ago, Zacharias Janssen asked this question:
Are there forms of life on our planet that cannot be seen by the human eye?

For most people, the answer was “no”, but Zacharias Janssen did not accept that answer. He invented the microscope and discovered a huge world of microscopic life forms. Zacharias Janssen had big thoughts, and the entire world as people knew it got bigger.

So today, think big, then have the courage to think bigger and beyond bigger! Your world might open up in surprising ways.

With something to think about, make it a great day…or not.

The choice is yours.

1 Corinthians 2:9, 12
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Let us ‘walk in grace’ together.
May we find ‘joy in the journey and good times in the going.’
