'THE SKETCHTRAVEL is a unique international charity art project.

This red sketchbook was passed from one artist's hand to another like an Olympic torch in an artistic relay through 12 countries over 4 and half years. This traveling museum contains the personal visions of 71 exceptional illustrators, animators and comic book artists, including artists such as Bill Plympton, James Jean, Rebecca Dautremer, Glen Keane, Frederick Back, and Hayao Miyazaki. Initiated by illustrators Dice Tsutsumi (Japan) and Gerald Guerlais (France), the project will culminate in an auction of the original book in Brussels on October 17, 2011. Proceeds from the auction and royalties from the book's publication will be donated to the international literacy non-profit, Room to Read.'

'Everything started when discovering the Audiolet Javascript library. Audiolet enables sound synthesis and music composition directly through the browser's Web Audio API. We quicky had the idea to create a small application running this technology and what's better than creating a drum machine?. One of the most famous drum machine being Roland's TR-808 we decided to use its samples as a basis. We wanted to maintain the machine's spirit, so we decided to give the Drumlet a vintage and realistic look and feel (Don't you hear transistors crackling?).'

'At age 15 I got my first job. Some would have called it child labour, but I called it the best experience of my life. It was a job at a local newspaper, creating ads like 'Sale! $9.99 shoes at the Shoe Depot! [star burst] '. All I could think was- I can make money doing THIS! From that moment on, my love for design grew, even before I knew what graphic design was.'

'In my work I am attracted to unusual, absurd and comical stuff and what the French call 'trompe l´oeil', without wanting to be too ironic or downputting. After all I believe people photography is about showing something unexpected in people but also making them look good. I also believe in retaining a tangible quality in my pictures and not retouching them as if there was no tomorrow. It all usually starts with an odd idea, sometimes based on what I see in the world outside, at other times on what I find in the world inside. At the end ideally my picture will make you look twice and then maybe smile.'

'At Dwell, we're staging a minor revolution. We think that it's possible to live in a house or apartment by a bold modern architect, to own furniture and products that are exceptionally well designed, and still be a regular human being. We think that good design is an integral part of real life. And that real life has been conspicuous by its absence in most design and architecture magazines.

We understand the impulse, the desire to show rooms that are insanely perfect. There is something compelling about an empty room or a house in which no one has lived. Something virginal. It would be an awesome responsibility to be the first one through that door. Perfection is intimidating. You have to be on your best behavior to live with it.

By contrast, we want to demonstrate that a modern house is a comfortable one. That today's best architects are able to fashion environments that are at once of the moment and welcoming. And the only way we know to demonstrate that a home is truly livable is to show it as it is lived in. If a photograph in this magazine includes a fruit bowl, it's there because the homeowners eat fruit.'

'Self-propelling beach animals like Animaris Percipiere have a stomach . This consists of recycled plastic bottles containing air that can be pumped up to a high pressure by the wind. This is done using a variety of bicycle pump, needless to say of plastic tubing. Several of these little pumps are driven by wings up at the front of the animal that flap in the breeze. It takes a few hours, but then the bottles are full. They contain a supply of potential wind. Take off the cap and the wind will emerge from the bottle at high speed. The trick is to get that untamed wind under control and use it to move the animal. For this, muscles are required. Beach animals have pushing muscles which get longer when told to do so. These consist of a tube containing another that is able to move in and out. There is a rubber ring on the end of the inner tube so that this acts as a piston. When the air runs from the bottles through a small pipe in the tube it pushes the piston outwards and the muscle lengthens. The beach animal's muscle can best be likened to a bone that gets longer. Muscles can open taps to activate other muscles that open other taps, and so on. This creates control centres that can be compared to brains.'

'There are lots of reasons to strive for open data:

Transparency: When a country's government freely publishes data about that country's population, the government becomes more transparent. Citizens can work with that data to combine it, compare it, cross it and establish interesting relations and link between data. Journalists can use that data in their reporting to reveal trends and developments.

Ease of use: Freely available data that is distributed in free & open file formats remains free. People can use & copy the data and spread it further.

Public has the right to access data: In many cases, research and other information production is made possible thanks to public means (read: tax payers' money). When the public pays for conducting research, it's only logical that the results are made public.'

How do we define Slavery? (Forced Labor):

Anyone who is forced to work without pay, being economically exploited, and is unable to walk away. Note: Forced Labor, also known as involuntary servitude, may result when unscrupulous employers exploit workers made more vulnerable by high rates of unemployment, poverty, crime, discrimination, corruption, political conflict, or cultural acceptance of the practice. Immigrants are particularly vulnerable, but individuals also may be forced into labor in their own countries. Female victims of forced or bonded labor, especially women and girls in domestic servitude, are often sexually exploited as well.

'Considered as one of the most prolific and talked about artists of today, Mr. Brainwash is also the subject of Banksy's documentary 'Exit Through The Gift Shop', which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2010. Using Guetta's street art footage, Banksy eventually turned the camera on the only man who ever filmed him. The collaboration resulted in a remarkable documentary that is part personal journey and part an exposé of the art world with its mind-altering mix of hot air and hype.'

TODAY, I EAT FOR AFRICA.

We started TIEFA in response to the worst famine in East-Africa for years. The crisis at present is a consequence of the conflicts, the increase in food prices (yes, partly because we bin 30% of the production) and the extremely dry weather conditions. The situation at present is worst in Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya. If we don't act now, millions of children, men and women will become ill or die over the coming months.

We believe that it is our generation that must put a stop to this injustice. It is happening on our watch. While we have plenty and too much of it, every day; others just can't get their hands on it. We can change that.

So stop watching, start doing. This is a call to action to anyone who wants to help fight famine: What did YOU eat today for Africa?

Devenir cultiv'acteur ? Quelques idées d'action au quotidien :

Manger autrement: Gaspillez moins de nourriture, pour votre portefeuille mais aussi pour la nature. Mangez moins de viande, pour votre équilibre et celui du climat.

'Whether it was Mrs. Engles in the 2nd Grade or Prof. Reich sophomore year, amazing educators have challenged us to be better thinkers, dared us to change career paths in a single lecture, and inspired us to believe that, with a little hard work, a better future is possible.

Take a minute to share your thanks for one (or a bunch) of your favorite teachers and what they inspired you to do. Brownie points for sending your story along to them! (We've got a feeling they´d love to hear from you too.)

Sharpen your No. 2's, pack a lunch, and dust off that five subject notebook. It's time for a student-teacher reunion.'

The this part of a task is the Trigger. Some example Triggers are 'if I'm tagged in a photo on Facebook' or 'if I tweet on Twitter.'

'Rookie is an online publication for teenage girls featuring writing, photography, illustrations, videos, and more from a lovely staff and our readers. The site features monthly issues, each revolving around a theme. We post just three times a day - after school, after dinner, and before bed.

Rookie is the result of hard work and dedication from a vital group of writers, editors, photographers, illustrators, videographers, designers, programmers, and thinkers. It's also an independent venture. The site features advertising that helps sustain its existence, and we're happy to have it, but we're beholden to no one. Staff and contributors have editorial freedom and own their own material. '

All Over

Online artwork, 2009

Samuel Bianchini

'All Over is an online artwork based on a series of images composed of typographic characters in the manner of ASCII art, that is using the display techniques of the first computers. In this case, however, the figures and letters composing the images are dynamic and keep changing: they are generated in real time following the rise and fall of stock market indexes around the world. The originally still images change according to the volume of financial transactions, which simultaneously feed and disrupt the photographs. The images are destabilized by the display system, and their meaning in turn becomes unstable. Caught between the digital and the financial, and between two forms of representation, these pictures without captions seem to be constantly struggling for their visibility and their uncertain reality. What is it that they show us? A demonstration, traders, supporters, a religious or political rally...?'

He chopped his way through the weeds and rocks and now you can wander freely, on dim lit paths of shimmering brainwaves. You can even upload your own images into my thoughts.

Every photograph stops time. This is the most banal, technical fact about the medium and also the source of its uncanny and remarkably durable power. The relentless momentum of mundane existence is stilled by the shutter, and some of the mysteries implicit in everyday life open up. A moment of high artifice or raw candor, of posed elegance or composed chaos is captured and then, later, delivered to our contemplative gaze.

Thousands of photographs have appeared in the magazine. More than 250 of them revealing portraits of the famous; documents of atrocity and heroism; sensitive studies of everyday life; unclassifiable works of art have been collected into a book, The New York Times Magazine Photographs, edited by the magazine's director of photography, Kathy Ryan, to be published in October by Aperture. The original images in this portfolio appear in that volume and make their second appearances in the magazine. Each is accompanied by a new picture of the same subject, in most cases taken by the original photographer.

The updates go some way toward answering the question that trails people who have endured a brief spell of media attention: Where are they now? We discovered them on the brink, in the midst or in the wake of important events. Here was a young model stepping out into a promising career. Here was a mother learning to care for her newborn daughter. Here was a firefighter struggling in the aftermath of a trauma both public and personal.

And now? People have aged, grown up, survived, changed. Nothing is the same. Everything the camera sees is as strange, as distressing and as beautiful as it ever was.

'The Girl Store: Buy a girl her life back

Even today there are chances of Indian girls being sold into marriage or sex slavery. But you can help. Simply purchase an Indian girl the items she desperately needs to attend school. Because the most effective way to break the cycle of exploitation is education.'

'Nate and Salli came up with this idea while on a family vacation. Nate was trying to recreate a favorite dish - fettucine with figs in a balsamic butter sauce - while Salli sat at the counter with her watercolors painting the crate of figs. This led them to realize how fun it was to illustrate food. They then started talking about creating a little recipe book for friends, family, and clients. They asked some of their artist pals to help, but never got enough recipes to justify printing a book, so Nate built a quick blog and Salli started to spread the word - it spread fast! They Draw & Cook now contains the biggest and best collection of illustrated recipes anywhere.'

'Have you ever wanted to send confidential information within your work environment, to family or friends, but were afraid to do so over the internet, because some malicious hacker could be spying on you?

Privnote is a free web based service that allows you to send top secret notes over the internet. It's fast, easy, and requires no password or user registration at all.

Just write your note, and you'll get a link. Then you copy and paste that link into an email (or instant message) that you send to the person who you want to read the note. When that person clicks the link for the first time, they will see the note in their browser and the note will automatically self-destruct; which means no one (even that very same person) can read the note again. The link won't work anymore.'

We are surrounded with information

In the past, various graphical aids for interpreting data have been used by governments and institutions for social planning. Data has been collected from the general population and used to implement decisions that affect it. In recent years however, there has been a shift toward greater information transparency with many institutions opening their data to the public in order to promote public engagement and foster creativity.

This project is about BBC data and how it can be visualised in a creative and informative way. In blurring the boundary between art and information DataArt aims to reach both experts and non-experts alike to grow interest in a media area of increasing public importance.

You wouldn't tell Mr Marks of Spencer how to make slacks or Mrs Audrey Audi how to build motor cars would you? So please sir don't tell me I should 'bevel' things, get back to doing what you do best and let me do the web designing.

'What a great clip. Created by Amsterdam agency Mr. Boonstra and Dutch graphic designer Parra - who is known for his 'curved post-Pop imagery, highly saturated colours and virbrant hand-drawn letters'. The song Put Your Gun Away is the second single on producer Rimer London´s debut album, titled 'Rimer London'. The clip also features South African singer Cata Pirata. According to Mr. Boonstra 'the video takes us through a world inspired by French synth-pop where Rimer London and Cata Pirata battle it out in a 'carnival cut-out' by means of Parra's iconic characters'. There´s also a possibility to add you own picture to the clip here - supporting the whole 'carnival cut-out' principle. We love agency's that do more than just advertising. And Mr. Boonstra is clearly one of those.'
