Wow. Now if I can open an email that says, "congrats!, your student loan has been paid off!" That would the best.

Until Then,
Life sucks with out money.
Why is it your car takes a dump then you get a hug medical bill in the mail that you have been waiting for over 7 months to pay with the money for it burning a hole in your pocket. then you have to use some of it to pay off the car that just took a dump. then two days later you get your tax bill thinking you had 2 months to save up for and now you have about over 30 days to come up with that money. Oh and the lovely neighborhood dues are due.
When it rains it pour and i don't mean about salt.

I hate life with out knowing if I have enough money to pay the bills and buy food and maybe treat the family to something that won't be too $.
When it rains it pour and i don't mean about salt.

So God! where are you when we need you the most, eh?
Why aren't you there to make sure this doesn't happen.
We give and give and pray and pray and safe and safe. Then BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
When it rains it pour and i don't mean about salt.
When your husband is doing every thing and anything his bosses tell him to do and more and there isn't any money in site to compensate for all the work he is doing. Never get cancer for your life will never be the same and the pay will never be the same!
Around 4:20 Monday afternoon her and Jacob were involved in a rollover accident. After being cut out of the van she and Jacob were rushed to Scottsdale hospital, where they were both examined. Jacob escaped with only a little soreness, and is doing ok, but as you can imagine this has really traumatized him. Katrina was checked out and didn't have any internal injuries or broken bones, but is extremely sore and scraped up. She was realeased Monday night, and is on pain medication. This has been extremely hard on her mentally, getting in to a car to go to her Dr. is almost impossible for her to do because of the fear. The accident happened at Crismon and the offramp of the 60. Katrina was Southbound on Crismon and had the green light, a car on the offramp t boned her mid van flipping her and Jake completely over and back upright. God was truelly protecting them. The van is demolished (the back roof of the van just behind where Jacob was sitting is bent in half). We ask for your prayers for thier mental and physical healing, and for the police to find her not neglegent in the accident in any way.

Thanks,
Jill and Mark's newest book Living with Less so your Family has More just released and I've invited them to share a little bit about this great resource!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

We have been married for 27 years…17 of them happily. After finding ourselves in a marriage counselor’s office around year 8 or so, we realized that we really didn’t know how to be married. We worked hard to turn things around and now we like to share that hope with other couples.

We have five children ranging from 13 to 25. Our oldest three are married. Anne (25) and her husband, Matt, live in Zion, IL, and are expecting our first grandchild in April. (We are very excited!) Evan (22) and his wife, Julie, have been married a year and a half and they live just a few miles from us. Erica (19) married her husband Kendall last September. They live in Augusta, GA, and wherever else the Army takes them.

We have two teenagers still at home. Kolya just turned 16. He’s learning to drive and we’ve nearly worn a hole in the carpet on the floor in the passenger seat trying to find that non-existent brake pedal. Kolya is the newest member of the Savage family. We adopted him at the age of nine from Russia.

Austin is 13 and in the 8th grade. He wants us to make sure and tell the world that this “living with less” life is a real bummer because he’s the ONLY kid in 8th grade who doesn’t have a cell phone.

Tell us about your newest book Living With Less So Your Family Has More?

The world screams the message that bigger is always better, but we have found that is not often true. When it comes to raising a family, less materially can actually result in more relationally. Children don’t need the best houses, the best lessons, the best cars, or the best clothes. What they really need is the best home life and the best family relationships we can give them.

Why did you want to write this book?

We didn’t start out with the “less is more” mindset. We started as a double income family wanting to have the “best” of everything. Then Mark decided to pursue ministry. We went from the “high life” to the “frugal life” very quickly as we moved to another state for him to go to Bible College full-time.

That experience introduced us to the concept that less is more. We definitely had less money, but we had more time. We had less stress and more peace. We had less activities and more fun.

Since that experience, we’ve continued to live primarily on one income for the past twenty years. We’ve had to battle cultural peer pressure and make different decisions for our family than many other families in our neighborhood have made. But we’ve never felt that we were materially depriving ourselves or our kids…instead we’ve focused on what we’ve actually been able to provide for them emotionally and relationally.

What do you hope your readers will gain from this book?

We hope the reader is encouraged to evaluate how they are living their life, spending their money, and thinking about family matters. Our goal is to introduce families to the “less is more” concept and then equip them with the attitudes and actions to actually make that happen.

For families that are already committed to less is more, we hope to bolster their resolve and help them stay focused on the long-term goal of providing relationally for their kids.

In today’s economy, there are many families being forced to live with less. We want to help them see the opportunity they have with this unexpected downsizing they’ve been forced to do.

And for those who have just been a little discontent with their life and saying things like, “I’m tired of the rat race of life,” or “Is there more to life than drive-thru meals for dinner?” we hope to help them see other choices they have and how they can lead their family in a different direction.

What unique elements will the reader find in Living With Less So Your Family Has More?

For couples who want to read the book together, we’ve included discussion questions at the end of every chapter. This helps move the readers to discussion and eventually actions. Even a single parent can use the discussion questions for personal evaluation.

Readers will find this book a practical guide to changing your attitude and your actions to live a successful “less is more” life. They’ll find our writing style to be a warm, casual, honest discussion where we not only share our victories but our mistakes along the way. We are an average couple living successfully on an average income who want to help others to see the possibilities before them.

This is a Hearts at Home book. What is Hearts at Home?

Hearts at Home is an organization that encourages, educates, and equips women in the profession of motherhood. Hearts at Home encourages moms through annual conferences, our extensive website (www.hearts-at-home.org), a free electronic newsletter, a radio program, and an entire line of books designed to meet the needs of moms all over the world!

Any closing thoughts?

It’s healthy for parents to occasionally pause and evaluate their vision for their family and the choices they are making. We hope this resource will help them do that together and that it will lead them to live a life of little regret.

Growing Grateful Kids by Susie Larson

Even in the Season of Lent as a mom we need to be able to read something that will lift us up.

Today I'd like to welcome author and speaker Susie Larson. Susie's new book Growing Grateful Kids has just released and I've invited her to share a little bit about this great resource.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

My husband and I have been married 25 years and have three grown sons (all in their early twenties). Our oldest son Jake works on the business side of the Christian music industry. Our middle son Luke is married to his beautiful wife Kristen; he works full time at a bank and part time as a worship pastor. Our youngest son Jordan is studying to become a surgical nurse. My husband Kevin is a commercial construction

1st Sunday of Lent

Face the Dark Side From the Catholic Update

Luke 4:1-13
Face the Dark Side

(New American Standard Bible)

Luke 4
The Temptation of Jesus
1(A)Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, (B)returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness

2for (C)forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry.

3And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."

4And Jesus answered him, "It is written, '(D)MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.'"

5(E)And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of (F)the world in a moment of time.

6And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; (G)for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

7"Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours."

8Jesus answered him, "It is written, '(H)YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"

9(I)And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here;

10for it is written,'(J)HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD YOU,'

11and, '(K)ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'"

12And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is said, '(L)YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'"

13When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.

Now the Holy Spirit was upon Jesus, he was ready to go against any evil aka the Devil. The Devil tried very hard to twist God's words to see if Jesus would agree with him and join him in forces to rule the world.

Jesus didn't eat anything for 40 days he didn't take advantage of being able to change items into food or drink. He kept strong knowing the Holy Spirit would be there with him every step of the way.

Follow Feb. 20, 2010

The readings for today are from

Isaiah 58:9-14 (New American Standard Bible)

9"Then you will (A)call, and the LORD will answer;

You will cry, and He will say, 'Here I am '

If you (B)remove the yoke from your midst,

The (C)pointing of the finger and (D)speaking wickedness,

10And if you (E)give yourself to the hungry

And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,

Then your (F)light will rise in darkness

And your gloom will become like midday.

11"And the (G)LORD will continually guide you,

And (H)satisfy your desire in scorched places,

And (I)give strength to your bones;

And you will be like a (J)watered garden,

And like a (K)spring of water whose waters do not fail.

12"Those from among you will (L)rebuild the ancient ruins;

You will (M)raise up the age-old foundations;

And you will be called the repairer of the (N)breach,

The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

Keeping the Sabbath

13"If because of the sabbath, you (O)turn your foot

From doing your own pleasure on My holy day,

And call the sabbath a (P)delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable,

And honor it, desisting from your (Q)own ways,

From seeking your own pleasure

And (R)speaking your own word,

14Then you will take (S)delight in the LORD,

And I will make you ride (T)on the heights of the earth;

And I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,

For the (U)mouth of the LORD has spoken."

Luke 5:27-32 (New American Standard Bible)

Call of Levi (Matthew)

27(A)After that He went out and noticed a tax collector named (B)Levi sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, "Follow Me."

28And he (C)left everything behind, and got up and began to follow Him.

29And (D)Levi gave a big reception for Him in his house; and there was a great crowd of (E)tax collectors and other people who were reclining at the table with them.

30(F)The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?"

31And Jesus answered and said to them, "(G)It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.

32"I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."

Is 58:9-14

is saying if you are able to fast not only from food but bad behavior and help others that don't have as much as you.
Honor the Lord and not follow your ways and seek your own interests or speak of horrible things the Lord will answer your call.

Hunger Feb. 19, 2010

The readings today are from:

Isaiah 58:1-9 (New American Standard Bible)

Isaiah 58

Observances of Fasts

1"(A)Cry loudly, do not hold back;

Raise your voice like a trumpet,

And declare to My people their (B)transgression

And to the house of Jacob their sins.

2"Yet they (C)seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways,

As a nation that has done (D)righteousness

And (E)has not forsaken the ordinance of their God

They ask Me for just decisions,

They delight (F)in the nearness of God.

3'Why have we (G)fasted and You do not see?

Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?'

Behold, on the (H)day of your fast you find your desire,

And drive hard all your workers.

4"Behold, you fast for contention and (I)strife and to strike with a wicked fist

You do not fast like you do today to (J)make your voice heard on high.

5"Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself?

Is it for bowing one's head like a reed

And for spreading out (K)sackcloth and ashes as a bed?

Will you call this a fast, even an (L)acceptable day to the LORD?

6"Is this not the fast which I choose,

To (M)loosen the bonds of wickedness,

To undo the bands of the yoke,

And to (N)let the oppressed go free

And (O)break every yoke?

7"Is it not to (P)divide your bread with the hungry

And (Q)bring the homeless poor into the house;

When you see the (R)naked, to cover him;

And not to (S)hide yourself from your own flesh?

8"Then your (T)light will break out like the dawn,

And your (U)recovery will speedily spring forth;

And your (V)righteousness will go before you;

The glory of the (W)LORD will be your rear guard.

9"Then you will (X)call, and the LORD will answer;

You will cry, and He will say, 'Here I am '

If you (Y)remove the yoke from your midst,

The (Z)pointing of the finger and (AA)speaking wickedness

Matthew 9:14-15 (New American Standard Bible)

The Question about Fasting

14Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, "Why do we and (A)the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?"

15And Jesus said to them, "The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Deuteronomy 30:15-20 (New American Standard Bible)

Choose Life

15"See, (A)I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity;

16in that I command you today (B)to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you (C)may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it.

17"But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them,

18I declare to you today that (D)you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it.

19"(E)I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, (F)the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

20(G)by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and (H)by holding fast to Him; (I)for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in (J)the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."

http://www.biblegateway.com/

Luke 9:22-25

22(A)saying, "(B)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day."

23And He was saying to them all, "(C)If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

24"For (D)whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.

25"For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and (E)loses or forfeits himself?

I surrendered to withholding judgment of others, I practiced to listen to my Children. I allowed someone in front of me today too.

Ash Wednesday Feb. 17th, 2010

Here are questions to start off this Lent Season. I found them in the book, The Catholic Home,, by Meredith Gould. She suggested to buy a journal to keep during the 40 days of Lent and write answers to the following questions:

"Am I loving, honest, tolerant, generous, patient, kind, trustworthy?"

"In what ways do I represent the love of Christ? Do I live my faith?"

"When, how and why am I angry, mean-spirited, stingy, envious, hostile?"

"What actions of mine have hurt others?"

"For what do I want forgiveness?"

"How have I hurt others by not taking appropriate action?"

"Whom do I need to forgive?"

"What do I allow to separate me from the love of Christ?"

"How can I open my heart, cleanse my soul and deepen my faith?"

Along with these questions this is the time to start a daily examination of Conscience if you already don't have this in your daily walk with God.

Here is a few of the statements one uses in this exercise.

- Been discouraged by difficulties.

- Failed to take time for being alone.

- Used time ineffectively.

- Been jealous.

- Not paid attention.

- Lied to protect myself.

- Judged others.

- Neglected to read the bible.

- Not seen God in realities of life.

- Not found time to pray.

- Put my spiritual life last.

my shope is open!

not much there just yet but just the same stop by......
We got there just in time to get seats. The church is so large that they hold Mass in the church and in the hall at the same time during the winter. When we left from the 4 p.m. family Mass there were three rows of chairs just out side the doors where people sat to hear Father John. It is a blessing to have so many people at this church.
I had to post a photo of our newest and dearest friend, Father John. This was his first Christmas at Holy Cross Catholic Church too. He made the Christmas story entertaining for the kids. I am so glad we were able to find a church home where we will grow spirally as a family.

The older children have been enjoying their Sacrament classes. They will have to make their First Holy Communion again due to not receiving it in the Catholic Church. Then they will have their confirmation at the same time. The PHX Catholic Diocese has brought back Confirmation to the lower grades. Then with the help of family and the Holy Spirit, the children will continue their spiritual journey as a Christian who is following the Catholic Doctrine. Therefore, I am going to change my format of my blog from the viewpoint of a mom who grew up in the Catholic Church, married a Lutheran, lived as a Lutheran, and then came back to the Catholic Church. As a saying goes once a Catholic always a Catholic so I guess I was a Catholic girl living a protestant life for 14 years.

Until Then, K.U.
So the following is the results of "my story". ( knew this before I took the quiz) But it confirmed to me
regardless if I am part of a Protestant Church such as the Lutherans or I"come home" to the Catholics I am a strong, devoted, Christian woman and no one can tell me were I can (along with my family) attend church.
Brent and I are proud to be Christians and raising our wonderful family as Christian men and woman and now here is the next test God has put forth for us to pass.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Dear Katrina,Thank you for taking the Story of My Life questionnaire online. Generally, I do a personal interview with the people I work with and try to tie the “raw scores” from the computer in with the person’s life experiences. In this case I don’t have the benefit of the personal interview, so the results will not be as personal as usual … But here goes…

The Story of My Life (Millennial Edition) guide that you wrote helped us understand some life themes that stand out as being important in your life. The Story only gives us some preliminary information and is not intended to be a complete report of your life. There will always be much more to us than any one guide can uncover. I will share with you some of the observations made through the Story. This information may or may not be completely correct. That’s for you to decide.

You scored high in the INTER-PERSONAL theme that describes a person's tendency for developing trusting, one-to-one relationships. Those who are strong in this theme are perceived as friendly and approachable. They affirm the goodness they see in others. Some qualities that you may possess include: a respect and appreciation of each person as an individual; a desire to get to know people in order to be helpful to them; a non-judgmental stance in relationships; an ability to support others on an emotional level.

Katrina, another area the Story looks at is our SPIRITUALITY, how our experience of being in relationship with God may affect our lives. This area of spirituality is also divided into two areas, -- Belief and Mission.

You scored well in the BELIEF theme, which describes the person’s sense of being in relationship with God and how that personal relationship affects their daily living. Those very high in this theme, as you are, readily recognize God's presence in a variety of settings, especially in relationships with other people. They find themselves strengthened by times of prayer and personal reflection. God and their faith are priorities for them. I would suspect that much of your life is centered on Christ and the values of God’s reign. You likely: are attuned to the movements of God; have a sense of being connected to others through their spirituality; find your prayer giving perspective to life; and understand that God is our strength.

You scored very well in the MISSION theme, which describes the person’s ability to minister and help others in a religious context. Those very high in this theme have a sense of being a disciple of Jesus and carrying on his work. They put their faith into action in meaningful ways. They receive satisfaction and joy from seeing other people's lives touched by their service to them. They see themselves and allow themselves to be instruments of God's love and peace. Some of these characteristics will likely apply to you: you enjoy making a difference in the world for God; you show a commitment and dedication to the Church; you share a love with others that is beyond your own; discussing religious issues comes naturally for you; you sense Jesus is present when you show compassion to others.
Whatever path you choose, though, please use these talents for the good of others and the Church. They are not yours to keep.Katrina, I wish you peace in the heart as you consider God's will for your life.Whatever path you choose, though, please use these talents for the good of others and the Church.
Katrina, I wish you peace in the heart as you consider God's will for your life.

Until Then,
K.U.
P.S.
Please pray for the ELCA they are gong to need all the prayers they can receive.

So sorry followers that I haven't be "updating" you with my life.
After Brent's surgery My world went to hell in a hand basket and spiraled into depression. Katrina is waiting to hear when she can go back to see him. There were 49 spots on the liver which might be cancerous or scar tissue. There were too many to biopsy all of them, but Dr. Ung biopsied two which were negative.Dr. Ung ablazed (sp?) the active tumor and fixed a small hernia near his belly button. Dr. Ung was able to save his gallbladder. Brent might go home tomorrow if his pain level is low.The next step is to meet with Dr.s Ung and Dragovich to discuss what should be done next.Brent and Katrina want to thank everyone for praying for Brent and all of your continued support!
Hi
Posted Jul 28, 2009 8:37pm
Hi to all. As most of you have read from posts from Dagney(thanks to her for the help). I was released yesterday after surgery. Mom and Dad gave us thier room at the Westin La Paloma, so we didn't have to make the drive last night. It was quite a shock before the surgery when Dr. Ong told us if all goes well we could go home that day, especially, after our consult with him telling us 5 to 7 days. I guess after being able to look at my previouse scans and the tumor only being 2 centimeters. he was pretty confident he could use micro ablaision to destroy the tumor without resecting it. He also took biopsies of 2 nearby spots and they came back as scar tissue. Hopefully the rest of all of those spots are scar tissue as well. Needless to say I'm pretty sore, and the oxycodone doesn't help a whole lot, but I am moving around ok. All in all things are going as good as could be hoped for. Thank you for all of your prayers, and I ask you keep them up, they really do help.
God Bless,
Brent

Visitation-A word from my hubby

Visitation
Posted 1 hour ago
Sorry, just one more thing. I did want to send out a request from myself, on visitation. On the day of surgery I would ask that people do not show up. The hospital paperwork says that the waiting area is small so only a few people are allowed in there. Plus I would like to keep Katrina's stress level down as much as possible. Feel free to visit starting on the 29th, as I would like to have a day after surgery to rest and recuperate, and by Wednesday should be much more coherant, and actually remember you being there. And remeber if you do visit the "sad puppy dog face" as Katrina and I call it, is strictly prohibited, I don't need the pity, I would much rather enjoy the company.
Thank you for your continued support, and understanding,Brent

See my bags for Brent for the latest update with Brent's surgery.
the "new" format for the windows Internet explorer won't allow me to cut and paste the same message over and over.:-(
Until Then,
Katrina

From my Hubby, Brent

The following is from Brent.Well everyone as much as I wish I had good news to report from all of my scans, I don't.
