Garmin forerunner

I got a garmin forerunner for christmas. where has this been all my life?!

things i love:
- the footpod lets me keep track of distance even when i'm running indoors without a gps signal
- i can see lap times, average per mile time and distance run on the same screen
- it's easier to flip from HRM to distance to clock time than my polar

don't get me wrong, my polar f4 was great as a heart rate monitor and a calorie counter, but i had to carry my cellphone or my bike gps to get an accurate distance.

i'm looking forward to using this in the coming year!

One of your favorite shows:

I watch a lot of reality/crap tv because it's entertaining. I can also read or internet while watching these shows because the plots aren't too deep. I don't know that i can pick just one reality tv show so i'll pick another one.

I've really been enjoying Boardwalk Empire. it seems like pay cable has been doing some great things lately with television. I can hardly rely on network tv to produce something this fun. I like all the costuming, the weird characters, the thin connections to historical fact and the storyline. One thing that annoys me are all the high pitched whiny guy voices, 'what you say aaaayyyy?'. i can't believe people ever talked like that to each other.

How important you think education is

Considering i'm a licensed and overqualified teacher, I think education is really important. Education even if it's not formal is important to get from our surroundings, our parents, our co-workers and live experiences. Yes we can learn in school and college and in training, but you really don't realize how to apply what you've learned until you are out in the world in the position to use them. That's one of the reasons why I think 'going away' to college is a big part of learning. You learn how to manage your bills, manage your time, make friends, do your school work on your own and maybe get a job.

Disrespecting your parents:

I"m not a big fan of these prompts but i'm finding that I don't have many ideas of what to write, so I'll use a few here and there.

Today's, about disrespecting your parents. Well I agree it's wrong and everything, but i really don't see how any warm blooded teenager could avoid this. Could you? all the moodiness and 'i know what's best for me' etc are bound to bring out some disrespecting.

I know i've done it in the past but i'm not about to list it all out there. Let's just say that high school really sucked.

A picture taken with one of my first camera phones, of my first Ipod and my husband's Ipod Nano. I sold the U2 special edition ipod to someone on ebay and my husband just got a recall on this nano for battery issues. The nano I have is even smaller than this little black one...and wow that other IPOD is GINORMOUS!!

One of my favorite bands, They Might Be Giants. I've seen them about 12 times. Their live shows are fantastic, funny, weird and enthusiastic. This is from the show I saw at First Ave. Minneapolis with my sister. She's now seen TMBG with me twice. She's got a lot of catching up to do.

Your views on mainstream music.

Admittedly I'm a bit of a music snob when it comes to things that I want to listen to. I don't care if you listen to country-western or scree-mo but you won't catching me pretending to enjoy myself if you play this in a car ride involving me. I have nothing against it, other than I HATE IT.

My indie-rock sensibilities keep me from purchasing pop music but I will admit that there are some times when I enjoy hearing a Katy Perry song or Lady Gaga or whatever. But you will never catch me at one of their concerts or buying their t-shirts or purchasing their catalog on iTunes.

I tend to listen to things you've probably never heard of or bands that you thought only had that one song in the 80s.

I am taking the bus with my Gramma Jansky, i remember green grass and walking on the sidewalk. I also remember walking to the back of the bus where the long wide bench seats are and looking at the large window in back. I don't know where we were going but i was having fun.

Somewhere you’d like to move or visit

I would love to move to San Francisco. I've been there about 4 times, once in college with friends and three other times as a tagalong on my husband's business trips. I just love the idea of being so close to so many different climates and landscapes. Mountains, ocean, desert, old growth forests. Plus San Fran is pretty fun, public transit makes it very accessible and the weather is pretty awesome year round.

I have yet to visit New York City. My husband goes there frequently for work, so one of these times i'll get to tagalong and we can do some touristy things like ...take a bus tour, see the empire state building/statue of liberty, see central park, eat at a fancy restaurant.

Has anything traumatic ever happened to you? Describe the scenes surrounding a particular event

well there are things that I thought were traumatic at the time, like breaking up with a boyfriend who obviously didn't care that i had just broken up with him, getting a loan rejection letter from the bank after not having given them all the paperwork, or getting laid off from a job I never really liked much to begin with.

the above three things caused me to throw turtle tantrums and cry uncontrollably for nearly an hour, while various friends and significant others stood by not knowing what to do.

I can thank God that i've never really had anything too traumatic happen to me up until this point.

When you are writing, do you prefer to use a pen or a computer?

I prefer to write on a computer. my hands are unused to using a pen for more than a minute at a time and i type faster on a computer. I also really use the computer for it's ability to edit what I've already written. I make typos and change phrasing a lot, especially when writing more than a few sentences. A computer makes it look like I meant to write this where me writing on paper looks like a mess with cross outs etc.
