Famous Poet: William Blake

William Blake was one of my first poets I read as a child and his poetry captured my imagination and interested in Poetry as much as Edgar Allen Poe did at the time. My favorite poem by William Blake was “The Tiger” which was only reinforced when Tangerine Dream released a song that paired that poems lyrics to music which just sounded incredible to me.
William Blake was born November 28th 1757 and died August 12 1827 and was not widely recognized for his poetry during his lifetime. He had very different viewpoints that put him at odds with the rest of society many of which considered him mad. Historian Peter Marshal considers Blake as a forerunner to modern anarchism.

Blake has done paintings, etchings, illustrations as well as poetry throughout his lifetime including The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with Sun below.

The Tiger

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies 5
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart? 10
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp 15

Our Boston Terrier

In honor of our beloved dog who had to be put to sleep after his health was too badly impacted by constant violent seizures, I wrote this poem to honor his memory to our family. This was the best dog and family friend anyone could ask for.

Our Boston Terrier

A striped white head
On brindle colored body
Majestic stance of a statue
Energy level of the gods

You ran through our hearts
You ran through our soul
A child not of human flesh and bone
But of our spirit and family

A smile graced your face
A playful bark every day
You are the joy of our home
You bring smiles every day

You bring so much love
Tender heart care too much
Even when ill you try to comfort
You deserve the comfort now

Sweet, Tender dog of ours
May you find peace in the end
You deserve to run fields
And chase lizards forever in time

Thank you for the memories
And sharing our warm home
Each time you had an accident
Perhaps we expected too much

Eight years was surely not enough
Your friendship and companionship too short
You were the best friend on four legs ever
You were like another child to us

The great equalizer of Ragnarok

demons of greed and destruction besieging

Childrens Book: The Angry Ogre

This is the third childrens book I wrote for my first grade son to read and it incorporates many of the words he is learning how to read and spell in school. I am trying to write one new book a week to continue to further his interest in reading. He tends to like the Fantasy and Sword and Sorcery genre as I did as a kid.

The Angry Ogre

An angry over lived in a far away cave.

The people were scared of his great temper.

One day a curious boy went missing from his house.

He went to meet the ogre and see for himself why he was so angry.

The boy traveled alone for many hours and arrived at the ogre’s cave.

A loud roar was heard from inside the cave entrance.

The ogre saw the boy when he entered the cave.

The lone ogre shouted “You will be eaten for coming here”

The boy who was not afraid asked the ogre “Why are you so angry, you pout like a baby?”

“Well, I have a huge thorn in my back and cannot get it out” roared the ogre

“I will help you” said the boy and then he said “lay down”

The boy used all of his strength to pull the large thorn from the Ogre’s back.

When the thorn finally was pulled out the Ogre shouted “Thank you, the pain is gone”

The Ogre told the boy that he would not be angry anymore.

With that the boy led the Ogre back to the town where the men could see for themselves.

The town people did not run and instead welcomed the Ogre.

The Ogre was no longer angry and was now a friend to the town.
