Polkaros Pop Up + Drom Class

I know I know there was no post for a while. I was telling to myself perhaps no one was reading so how about a stop. I usually don't get excited over many things but this time just looking from Polkaros's blog is making me excited and looking forward to Polkaros Pop Up in Singapore.

Earlier on I was telling (or more like nagging) my friend Rehana that she must visit Polkaros Summer Pop Up at Sugar Town (Japan) and I must go if I am in Tokyo. Eventually Rehana didn't make it there but she sent me a postcard that make me even regretted not able to make it. Thanks to The Little Drom Store being one of my favourites, Ros came to Singapore !

Polkaros hand crafted pots, clay brooches, tenugui, bags, and zines together with the adorable pompoms are so hard to give it a miss. I can still remember I have a copy of her zine with the tote bag not used on my shelve. This time I am not prepare to give the pot a miss this time even though my favourite was taken and most of them in store already have an owner :D

Drom class started in the cozy little treehouse of The Little Drom Store. What could be more therapeutical to sit down and paint on a raining night. With my best creativity I sketch a Teru teru bozu (てるてる坊主), Kokeshi, Bikini girl and lastly one that i could only sketch some parts here and there but not the facial expression.

All my classmate did very well with many good ideas and their pots are all so amazingly cute. Thank you Ros and Antoinette for giving me lots of idea and I guess I must be the worst in class. I painted without any sketches and at the end of the class, my piece turned out to be "Mr. Postman" or actually I wanted it to be a mailbox.

Given the fact that I have not much talent in drawing and painting, I eventually graduated from the class. I have much fun during the 2 hours Drom Class :)

The classes have ended but the pop up will still be on till 30 November so do drop by if you keen on getting some cute stuffs as Christmas gifts.

The Little Drom Store + Kki (ケーキ) Reopening

Good things are worth the waiting and indeed over the past 8 months, I really misses my favourite cake place and store, Kki + The Little Drom Store. The good news is they are officially reopening today at The School of The Arts (SOTA)with a newer look. I love the spacious calming feel in the new Kki space and with their new launching of Kki Home, you can find their very first Kki Home series of ceramics ware commissioned by ampulets and made in Japan by ceramics-maker Kihara Inc.

As for The Little Drom Store, I must say that I am truly amazed by their new tree house especially the wall that was filled up with so many cute quirky stuffs. Over the past 8 months they have come up with so many locally designed new series and finally with the opening of their brick and mortar shop, drÖmmers can expect exclusive product collaborations with Moomin and UK designer Donna Wilson.

I am so excited and can't wait to eat on my cakes and start some shopping. Head down today if you have time and there is also local artist Celesteanning drawing live on their glass window at 7pm tonight.

Ps: The photos are taken yesterday due to my crowd phobia that developed recently so I am sure it would even be nicer at the shop today.

I like Wheeler's Yard location tucked away in the Balestier area and with the cycle path nearby, is so convenient and made for cyclists. The fact that the cafe cum bicycle atelier workshop are all housed in a huge warehouse made it so right. Everything here is about bicycles and while admiring them, the vintage furniture all around are more to my interest.

Decent pie and coffee served, not much of a surprise. I am sure this would be a bicycle lover paradise and if you are not too much into the food or drink, this could be a good hangout place for you.

Do you still remember my earlier blog post about Not A Retail Shop // NÓNG ? Transitional___ by Shophouse & Co is a traveling creative platform that brings life to various spaces around the city and this time being part of the new initiative, online store Naiise set up its pop-up retail at 115A King George Avenue added more fun to the hardware stores in the Lavender area.

Besides able to browse through the assortment of lifestyle goods, there are also food tasting session by the various artisanal food makers such as the jam I have recently bought from GSH Conserves. There are also workshops conducted by Tyrwhitt General Company and pop-up coffee bar by Bettr Barista Coffee Academy .

I visited them on a weekday afternoon so that are not too much activities going on, however the weekend activities sounds too good to miss, still not too late to head down with one more weekend before they are close on 22nd June.

The Tastemaker store reminded me of Japan and yes I just came back from Tokyo last week. I have plan to go earlier but planning the trip really make me busy. This muji inspired cafe with the huge window frontage bring in much natural lighting. I love the Japanese-minimalist interior of white/brown, the candle holders on the tables and addition of hanging plants. As written on their facebook "Designed with a simple layout, we want to create a place where people can feel at home" . YESssss I do wish for a home like this !

I tried the recommended lemon curd with clotted cream on toast, the lightness of the bread was just right with the well balanced zing. Besides the food on the menu, we have packed home the homemade yam cake and glutinous rice. I did not expect the big chunks of yam pieces and generous portion of ingredients, it was simple fulfilling and contenting. As for my glutinous rice was spoilt after the long day but that's the reason to go back for more before the crowd starts.

Are you into cafe hopping recently ? YES, I AM !

I must admit there are really tooooo many of them recently. I can't help not to admire Jonathan @jonwithak for able to visit so many of them in a short period of opening. Do try out his favourite all time spot "Brawn & Brains" for coffee, wraps and cakes. I have yet to visit but this tiny little cafe tucked at the old Singapore badminton hall is definitely on my list.

I know I took too long to post but better than none. The MT Expo held in July last year was the first time in Singapore and everything was about MT Tapes there. I went twice since it was so fun with workshops and hands on DIY with free usage of MT Tapes. A total of 5 Singapore limited edition tapes made debut at this rare event and of course they were off the shelves very soon. I am always happy to see new products from MT and love the Scandinavia series collaborated with Olle Eksell, Bengt & Lotta and Lisa Larson. How I wish there would be more collaboration!

Since many limited edition mt tapes that were not for sale and only available for exchange when you play with the gachapon coin machine so it was super addictive. Even though the event have ended here but there are always some MT event somewhere, so in case you are MT fans and planning for a holiday, do check out their website if there are any up coming event.

Wander 【 Blooming April 】

April was a good month with the rare mass blooming of flowers along the roadsides, parks and also gardens. I had long walks exploring more possibility to see Singapore covered in riots of colours from the blooming flowers. So in Japan, April is the time for cherry blossom season too and here in Singapore, I stopped to see Trumpet trees in pink or white that look alike to Sakura. How I miss hanami in Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden ! But still I am still delighted to see the beautiful sight in our little island.

Sometime we do need to stop for a while and start to appreciate the little wonders around us that we have never taken any notice. These are not all of what I have taken and of course there are more on the flickr.

Recently with the opening of so many bakery and cafes, I always think that it would be good if I have just one of them in my estate within walking distance that would be good. Especially on those days where you don't feel like travelling in the heat yet would like just a cup of coffee and a piece of delectable cake.

Bloomsbury Bakers is one that is situated in a neighbourhood area yet it is very near to the MRT station and offices nearby. Sadly I don't stay in Boon Keng area and I doubt my area will have such a quiet little spot.

The selection of cakes was good, I was caught between Lychee Martini and Strawberry shortcake. Since Strawberry Shortcake is quite commonly found, I decided on the Lychee Martini cake. I love the cake with the alcohol taste mainly concentrated on the lychee and not too overwhelming.

I believe that taste is very subjective and before I entered a new place, I normally do my homework of the good and bad of that place. If the food / place is really bad, I wouldn't even bother to write about it. Try it for yourself with an open heart and do not compare with any others.

Earlier in May I visited The Letter J Supply x Gracesmiths space in Shaw Tower where they celebrate REST. The 4 day shop they have put together was a reminder for them to work from a place of rest. From Gracesmiths you can find a variety of handcrafted goods from cushions to stationery. I find it so hard to leave without buying the beautiful selection of handwritten type from The Letter J Supply.

I know I have been neglecting this space for a while but even say so, if you following me on Instagram, I am sure you will know I am still eating around :)

Chef Yamashita was one that I couldn't miss and I make my way down yesterday with my hectic schedule and squeezed it before my dental appointment (YES! I need tooth extraction). If you have visited Flor Patisserie in Duxton Hill, you would know who is Chef Yamashita.

After Kki was no longer around, this was one cake that I misses the most. I am not a cake person but there are exceptional for Japanese Patisserie cake. Here in Chef Yamashita for their soft opening, you can find the featured new product - luna wraps of sponge cake wrapped with light crème and fresh fruits.

By noon all the mango luna wraps was packed by the Japanese lady that arrived slightly before me. I ordered my favourite Strawberry luna wrap and Mango rare cheese cake and to think I can finished all alone even after a heavy lunch, you can imaging how delectable they are. There is no indoor seating and only small tables outside the shop, be prepared to take away.

Bloesem Class - ABC's of Calligraphy

I have been follow Bloesem blog by Irene Hoofs for quite a while and even though she have opened the little dutch shop in Tiong Bahru estate, I did have the chance to visit. Someday I am so happy when I noticed that they kicked off their very first Bloesem Classes with Calligraphy by Maybelle Imasa-Stukuls, I didn't take long to sign up since I been wanting to learn for the longest time.

The Bloesem creative and retail space was simply awesome, with so many curated selection of products from around the world. I immediately set my eyes on the hand woven pillows, Fine Little Day's posters, little quotes jar and Skandinavisk scented candles.

We started to class with brief introduction and everyone was given a set of the personalized kit that consists of a bottle of ink, a pointed tip pen, a special Maybelle-designed practise book and my favourite of all have to be the special pen and ink holder made personally by Maybelle's husband.

I love how Maybelle demonstrated the basic strokes / curves, uppercase and lowercase, she make it seems so easy. She was very encouraging and when I found it hard to write letter like "I", "J" and "O" she was very patient to show me again and again. I adore the strokes and curves but I am not too good in controlling my pen. My three hours session passed by so fast and I realized the success of writing good calligraphy is to keep practising and lots of patience.

I hardly get to attend class whereby there are continuous supply of food from cookies to cake to Nasi Lemak lunch and coffee to tea and even prosecco are provided. The class here is fun and relaxing and the best part have to be the supply of yummylicious food and wonderful space.

This was the gorgeous writing by Maybelle and she was kind enough to write for everyone. I have a good class experience and is definitely worth the time and money. Keep up the good job Bloesem and I can't wait to attend Lisette Scheers screen printing class this Sunday to learn the art of screen printing beautiful prints and patterns onto fabric.

I can never imagine this pop up happening on the sixth floor of the carpark in People's Park Complex even though I have visited this place many years back. The charm of this old building never fails to attract me to always come back quietly for a visit.

Here you can find workshops and sessions organised by NÓNG of Edible Gardens or even buy some seeds and gardening equipment. Furniture, kitchenware, and attractive useful items on sale by Naiise and awesome quality goods from independent makers sourced by Haystakt. It was such a pity that the lovely space would be only till end March and I hope I have share with you too late.

Just in case if you have missed the pop-up, you can always visit Haystakt’s online new crowd-pricing platform – PROJECTS . Customers influence on the price of a product based on the more it was ordered, the lesser the consumers pay.

If you have visited Temporium, you will know about the beautiful ceramics sold there. I am already eyeing on the ceramic tea cups moulded from bamboo stems by Weekend Workers feat. Ong Su Loon so please support and I can get at a lower price :D

Imaginary Vacation Friday .... End of the World Cinema

Where is the weirdest place you have ever watched a movie ? I guess many people would have watched a movie in an outdoor or indoor theatre but I suppose nothing can be comparable with watching movie at the foot of a desert mountain range. Situated in desert of Sinai was the dream theatre of a French man. Though he managed to built the theatre, local authorities were not too happy about it therefore no movie were ever screened in this out of place movie theatre.

Estonian photographer Kaupo Kikkas recently visited Egypt and brought back these amazing photos of the End of the World Cinema.

Recently I been lazy around, so sorry that this post came so late and "Temporium" as its name suggested was a temporary pop-up from September 2013 to Mar 2014
:O The dates totally reminded me that these photos were taken only in their second week of operation and I could sit on them for months if wasn't for the Singapore Design Week.

Even though the shop ceased operation on 8 March, the good news is Temporium has been included as one of the stops in the design trail for Singapore Design Week organised by Design Singapore. So if you would like to drop by for one last time, they will be open tomorrow on 15 March (Saturday). On top of that, their team will be sharing, amongst other invited speakers, about the vision, reason and inspiration behind Temporium. For those who've missed or those who have visited, this is one last opportunity.

Do you still remember my visit to Carpenter And Cook ? Are you a fan of them? YESssss I am one of them but staying in the northern part of Singapore, travelling to Upper Bukit Timah is the least I enjoy even though I know that there are tasty treats waiting for me. The good news in 2014 is that there is a new outlet Carpenter and Cook Jr is now open in Thomson area but the bad news is that there are no seating here, catering only for takeaway due to the limited parking space. The nearest carpark would be Thomson Plaza that is short walking distance to the cosy shop. The usual yummy pastries, biscuits and coffee crafted from beans by local roastery "Liberty" are all available in the cosy place and how I wish there are some sitting space now !!!

Owl Calendar 2014 Calendar

2013 seems to go so fast and here is 2014 already ! Wandering Curiocity is three years old today and I hope to continue sharing more of my wandering notes with more interesting discovery. I can't stick to resolution so may as well not make any but this year I do hope I can spend more time here and also work out on more things & ideas that have been shelved.

Like before I would like to share the 2014 Owl Lover Calendar collaborative project between My Owl Barn and 50 artists from all over the world.

I didn't have the habit to buy any calendar but I do enjoy making calendars for my friends every year. So if you are running out of time or simply not creative enough, the calendar from My Owl Barn is definitely a good option. Do you ever dread of going to shop in town during December or maybe towards the last few days of Christmas? I do and hated to queue, being pushed and need to fight the crowds in the cashier or taxi stand >.<
To ease your shopping spree this year, here's a list of the local designers and shops added to last year shop lists that you can shop without having to leave the house and you will find it useful especially we are now counting down to 12 days to Christmas :D

The Damn Good Shop - I been following their instagram for a while and the limited editions produce from Goodstuph are always so catchy. The physical shop only open once a month so it would be easier to shop online.

When I was Four - This shall not be a stranger if you often visit Public Garden Flea. Their designs of old school snacks and toys are hard to resist buying. If you are looking for bigger items, they do have Food cushions and Five Stone plushies (the old school triangular milk pack is my favourite).

Cara Cara - Instagram is somewhere where I first discovered Cara Cara. Cara Cara’s very first collection of wearables titled “me-dal” necklaces are synonymous with ideas evolving from everyday lives. The chunky necklaces made of different materials and patterns are so versatile for all styles.

Mmerci Encore - I first started to follow Alli Sim, the founder of Mmerci Encore on her instagram. what make me noticed the artisanal products was the packaging initially but each product is infused with 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils of uncompromising quality so why not support some quality stuffs especially if you are giving them as gifts for your loved ones.

Democratic Society from Supermama - 5 talented illustrators in Singapore was invited to create illustrations that are re-produced on a series of 5 cups by the 400 year-old ceramic maker KIHARA. Every cups tells a story, I can't really selected which cups I like best from the "From Another Time / 從新時光" series. If cups are out of your selection, there are always Tea towels from Dawn Ng "Everything You Ever Wanted Is Right Here", they are my personal favourites.

Stelliyah - I happened to chance upon this brand during a shopping trip in Standard of Living. I love the concept of the Wish Bracelet "Make a wish as you tie this bracelet. When the bracelet falls off, your wish is ready to come true..." and this shall be my main Christmas presents for most of my friends to show some support in jewelry and accessories handcrafted and designed in Singapore.

The Little Drom Store - The creative couples need no introduction, from Kopitiam favourites to Playground Series, Kiddy Rides, Little Pasta Series to Origami Series, is so hard not to like or buy anything.

Small And Able - Started as an online shop and in flea markets, the lovely pair finally open their retail shop this year in Peninsula Shopping Centre. I love their range of stationery and lifestyle wares but of course not to be miss are these The Birdy Girls Brooches and Everyday Coasters.

The Fingersmith Press - First noticed their quirky postcards at Small And Able. Since I am so involve in postcrossing, I feel that it is so difficult to buy quality postcards in Singapore. Finally a new letterpress printing studio based in Singapore, specialising in hand lettering and illustration. Cheers to Happy Postcrossing !

Are you a sucker for Flea Market and Pop-up Store? I am and is so difficult to resist not going any especially December is the month for shopping. I hope that you'll still remember about my visit to The Christmas Pop-up Store last year where I burnt a big hole in my pocket. A Day In The Flower World : Afternoon Blossom

I am not missing :D just busy with a new interest that have been delayed too long. October was a hectic month and spending a leisure afternoon in workshop with Juwind is a luxury for me. Is so difficult to resist the charm of blooming flowers and these pretties sure cheer me up. Believe it or not, gosh just only into a 2 hours workshop, I have taken 200 photographs at least.

I had fun even joining in as an onlooker so for those seriously consider in learning something yet having fun at the same time, workshops here may be a good option.

Ps: I am so in love with the flowers, I've secretly took some home to press and hope to see good results :D

Midweek Summer

Summer is here officially here. There is no difference here since it is always Summer everyday, this July heat is unbearable for me. I am missing the sea especially my feet in the sand, chilling out with mojito and sea breeze blowing against my face. This is how it should always be. I feel kinda sad missing out my Langkawi trip, listening to Cereal Summer Playlist and imaging the ocean is right in front. The night is long.

Search online and I found on Wikipedia that "Drury lane is a street on the eastern boundary of the Covent Garden area of London, running between Aldwych and High Holborn" but now in Tanjong Pager you can find Drury Lane too except that it is now the name of a new cafe. Not sure why they named it Drury Lane but surely this name is easy to remember.

I am always impressed with the courage of people opening new establishment recently, unless the food and drinks are really bad if not I will still try to share as much as possible. I like the all day breakfast menu even though my Big breakfast was just normal and the portion was a bit too small. Seriously I do not like the taste of my baked beans. I left Drury Lane Cafe with smell on my clothes and hair even though I was sitting on the second level.
