LeSean McCoy says he never saw DeSean Jackson curse at Chip Kelly,
and McCoy indicated that there is no reason for Eagles players to be
happy Jackson is gone to the Washington Redskins, after having been
released by the Eagles, Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Some players have seemed diffident about the move. A CBS-3
story quoted anonymous current and former Eagles saying Jackson was
selfish and divisive, indicating they felt the team was better off
without him.

McCoy, speaking at the conclusion of a Saturday morning youth clinic
at Camden Catholic High, said: "It's a surprise for sure. Anybody that
tells you they're happy about it, I don't know how honest that would be.
It is a surprise. You've heard so much, you don't really know (what's
true). Not playing with him is definitely going to be different. Playing
against him is REALLY going to be different ... It's some big shoes to
fill. DeSean's by far one of the biggest playmakers in the game, and the
biggest deep threat there is in the game. Some big shoes to fill, for
sure.

Asked about the CBS-3 story that alleged Jackson had repeated conflicts
with Kelly and cursed the coach out in front of the team, McCoy said:
"I've never seen that. I've never seen the two of them get into it.
Coach Kelly, the good thing I'll say about him is, he's understanding.
If you have an issue or a problem, he seems to always work it out."

Despite his feelings for Jackson, McCoy seemed concerned that fans
would get the wrong picture of Kelly's ego from the dispute. (Of course,
one way to keep that from happening would be for Kelly to speak, which
he hasn't done since Jackson's release).

"He's honest. He likes hard work," McCoy said of Kelly, who went 10-6
in his first season coaching the team. "And he's respectful ... I think
people are getting the wrong picture -- 'oh, he's cut one of his best
players' -- I don't think it's that. I think it's just that was a
decision they made."

Longtime Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford has died, Kyle Meinke of Mlive reports. He was 88.

Further details have to yet be disclosed.

"It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of Mr. Ford and
extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Ford and to the entire Ford
family," Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement released through
the team. "No owner loved his team more than Mr. Ford loved the Lions.

“As the former Chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Senator Cantwell should be aware that there are many challenges facing Native Americans, including an extremely cold winter with high energy bills, high unemployment, life threatening health problems, inadequate education and many other issues more pressing than the name of a football team which has received strong support from Native Americans.

If the Senator wants us to change our team name, has she already told that to the team named ‘Redskins’ in Wellpinit, Wash., where the school’s population is more than 90 percent Native American? We hope Senator Cantwell has visited with those students in order to hear their thoughts. We hope Senator Cantwell is aware how upset the students in Port Townsend were when they were forced to change their name.

In an ESPN report on Sept. 18, 2013, Tim Ames, the superintendent of Wellpinit schools stated, ‘I’ve talked to our students, our parents and our community about this and nobody finds any offense at all in it. Redskins is not an insult to our kids. ‘Wagon burners’ is an insult. ‘Prairie n—–s’ is an insult. Those are very upsetting to our kids. But ‘Redskins’ is an honorable name we wear with pride… In fact, I’d like to see somebody come up here and try to change it.’

Finally, why did Senator Cantwell send her letter to the New York Times before she had the courtesy of sending it to the NFL? No one other than a politician does that. Surely, with all the issues Congress is supposed to work on such as the economy, jobs, war and health care, the Senator must have more important things to do.”
