My mom tried on many occasions to teach me how to knit and crochet but I never got the hang of it. So when Jordana Paige contacted me asking if I would like to review their Knitting Satchel, I didn't know if I was the best fit of blogger.

Then I started reading about Jordana Paige - their company, customer reviews, and the thought behind these bags. And I realized even though I do not knit... I wanted one of these bags. They are cleverly made, have such attention to quality and detail, and are made from an elegant vegan material that more truly replicates leather than most bags I have seen. I especially was drawn to The Knitters Satchel™. From the Jordana Paige site:

The Knitter's Satchel™ is fashioned with features for carrying your knitting. The soft vegan pebbled-leather is detailed with top-stitching and finished with nickel hardware.

Features

Snap frame closure.

Removable zipper pouch.

Circular needle holder.

Four credit card slots.

Zipper pocket.

Two circlets to prevent your yarn from tangling.

Easy access outside flap pocket with six inside pockets for tools.

Two shoulder straps with shoulder drop of 12".

Feet on bottom.

L 16" x W 6" x H 9.5"

Polyester.

I went to the Jordana Paige blog, where I saw videos and testimonials from customers raving about their knitting bags, the quality, the durability, the intelligent thought behind each pocket, hook, and detail. When I received the bag I was even more impressed.

The bag is truly gorgeous and at first glance looks like real leather. It comes with its own dust bag to protect it when not in use. I loved the apple green contrast lining - what a cheery color to see each time you open your bag! While many of the pockets and loops were created to organize knitting tools, I found them extremely helpful for my everyday purse contents. I had a perfect spot for my Metro farecard, quick access to my daily lipstick, a loop to corral my keychain, and I adore the detachable coin purse - great to grab when heading out for lunch or when I don't want to carry the entire bag. The divider in the bag helped me separate my big clunky items (wallet, camera) from the smaller items that always get lost in my purse (notepad, comb). The feet on the bottom keep the bag standing upright and protect the gorgeous finish of the bag.

I love that this bag is vegan. It is hard to find stylish vegan bags that are dressy enough for work. This bag really fits the bill. As an added bonus, Jordana Paige will donate 10% of the price of The Knitter’s Satchel™ in Pink to the fight against breast cancer.

So now, are you as sold on these bags as I am? I hope so because one of you can win this same very pink Knitters Satchel™!
All opinions are 100% mine.
When I was given the opportunity to try out TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo I couldn't have been more excited. I had heard great things about this dry shampoo. For those who haven't tried a dry shampoo, it is a spray that will extend the time between shampoos (which is better for your hair and is a reason why it's one of the Top Hair Products for School), keep a blow-out looking great longer, and can be used to add body to limp hair.
TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo has been mentioned on so many blogs and magazines because they have a complete line of different dry shampoos that revive your style’s look and feel on days if you choose to skip a shampoo. They have four different formulas to choose from:

Strengthening Dry Shampoo: The formula, with B12 vitamins and keratin, helps strengthen hair and leaves it full of healthy body

Volumizing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with mineral clay and citrus, removes oil while injecting hair with salon-gorgeous volume

Smoothing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with Vitamin H & Silk Proteins, refreshes your straight style by removing excess oil, impurities and odor to ensure your smooth look lasts

Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo: The formula, with Witch Hazel, Citrus, and Aloe Vera, refreshes your hair by removing excess oil, impurities and odor while moisturizing hair

I usually want to use a dry shampoo to maintain a blowout on the second (or third!) day so I tried the Smoothing Dry Shampoo. Reading the label, I was impressed that not only do these TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoos absorb excess oil without needing water, but they also remove odor (awesome for the day after a night at a bar or barbecue!). After trying it I was even more impressed. It didn’t leave an ashy look to my brunette hair, it brushed in nicely to leave my hair soft and natural, and the citrus extracts that are infused to this and all of the TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoos left my hair with a subtle clean, fresh scent.
The key to success with the TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoos is proper application. A few tips for the best results:

Do shake vigorously before use and in between spray bursts for best results

Do lift sections of dry hair and spray lightly at roots

Do spray in short bursts, holding 8-12 inches from head

Don’t spray it like hair spray (all over and continuously)

Do leave in for 1-2 minutes before styling or brushing

Do use fingertips or a brush to distribute product evenly If clogging occurs, just remove nozzle and rinse it under warm water, then reattach

YouTube Celebrity Elle Fowler (http://www.youtube.com/allthat…) has teamed up with TRESemmé and created a tutorial to teach people how to use TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo properly. Watching this video also really helped me get the best results. I encourage you to check it out!
Have you tried any of the TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoos? What do you think of them?
I LOVE Nordstrom, I often shop Nordstrom Rack online, but haven’t been to one of their retail stores in many years. They have recently opened up in Chevy Chase and Annapolis; I decided to visit the Annapolis location.

My sister and I arrived on a Sunday around noon. We were greeted as soon as we arrived. The store is so CLEAN! This is not like a typical outlet store or big box discount retailer; the shop was organized with rounders and fixtures instead of mile-long rolling racks. Clothing was separated by size (one rounder of sizes 8-10, another for 12-16), and by designer (one rounder of Lafayette 148 New York, one rounder of Ella Moss). While most of the clothes were standard 0-14, there were some plus size pieces (including a gorgeous leaf green Rachel Palley maxi dress). They also had mannequins dispersed through the store dressed in available fashions, and even accessorized!

While the majority of the real estate was dedicated to women’s clothing, to the left were men’s fashions, the right and front were beauty, lingerie, and accessories, the back right was children’s clothing, and the entire back of the store were aisles of shoes. I went straight for the shoes – I was thinking I may find my Miss Sixty Jaidens for less than I found on Gilt, or maybe a pair of leopard shoes for fall.

While I didn’t find the Miss Sixtys, I did find the shoes above. And check out that price! I think they were the display shoe because one shoe has a teeny bit of wear – you can see the scuff on the heel and the logo on the footbed is slightly worn. However the shoe is otherwise in perfect condition, comfortable, and for $22? Score!

Nordstrom Rack had a great selection of shoe brands – plenty from Stuart Weitzman, Cole Haan, Sofft, Nine West, Franco Sarto, and other regular brands sold in their department stores. There were also some higher-end lines available. Some were in pristine condition, some looked to be either returns in excellent condition or store displays. The selection was very well organized, there was over an aisle of just size 8 shoes, and some of those available in wide and narrow widths!

After finding my fabulous shoes, I headed to the accessories department. Great selection of bags from brands like Halston Heritage, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Hobo International, and Cole Haan. I was looking for either a structured handbag in black or a black envelope clutch – didn’t find either but almost bought a MMJ bag that was so utterly lovely but NOT what I really needed. I also checked out their wallets hoping for a Hobo International “Diane”; while they had Hobo wallets, they didn’t have the specific style I desired. I was impressed with their sunglass selection – a rack just of Kate Spade, a rack just of Michael Kors, and then a rack of higher-end brands and one for styles under $50.

The rest of the accessories were a bit underwhelming. The jewelry was a weird hodgepodge that made me feel as though I was at Macy’s or Lord & Taylor – stretchy rings with weird enamel flowers, crystal drops on obviously faux gold chains, lots of beads on cording, and none of it was that awesome of a price. There was a display case with some higher-end jewelry but none looked so fab to get a salesperson to open it. There was an usually large selection of Neutrogena products, which I found really strange (and the prices weren’t any cheaper than Target or Drugstore.com). They also had Pureology, Redken, and Bliss Spa products – again the prices not all that lower than found online.

The lingerie department reminded me of the sale rack in Nordstrom lingerie departments – crowded rounders with a random assortment. If you want to take the time, you could weed through and maybe find a Wacoal or Natori for $25, but I just didn’t have the desire (and there were several other women already scrounging). My sister and I did find some great scarves – I bought one not as large as my H&M scarf, but still big enough to be a cummerbund; my sister got a silk oblong to wear in her hair.

Roaming around Nordstrom Rack, I was impressed with the tiny details. On-site tailor (fabulous!), great visual merchandising (as a previous VM I love seeing a well-merchandised store), and the coolest baskets – they have a handle that pulls out and wheels so you can carry like a basket or pull behind you like a rolling suitcase. At the register they had travel sizes of lots of beauty products – Burt’s Bees, Bliss Spa, and various cosmetics.

While the store’s cleanliness and organization was refreshing, the most awesome part of Nordstrom Rack was the staff. Matthew was the manager, and he was awesome. Dressed to the nines (this man can rock a bow tie!), so dapper, charming, and fully aware of everything going on in his store. All the salespeople were friendly, and came up to us on the sales floor to see if we were doing okay and needed anything. This wasn’t done in a stalker/annoying way, but in a way where I really felt comfortable saying, “No thank you” but also wouldn’t hesitate to ask one of them to open the display case or help me find the fitting rooms. Enough registers opened for the crowd there, no one had to wait to be rung up.

So now to the good stuff… what I bought!

BCBG Max Azria sweater jacket – Originally $248, paid $69.97 (worn here sans self-belt)

Franco Sarto Collection “Lotion” Mary Janes – Originally $99.95, paid $21.80

Another Line patent belt – Originally $32, paid $18.97 (worn here)

Printed scarf – Originally $38, paid $19.97 (wearing today)

My sister got a silk oblong scarf and a black felt cloche-style hat by Jessica Simpson for this winter (super cute).

Note: Nordstrom Rack supplied me with a $100 gift card. I chose to write this post, and all opinions are completely my own.
They offer clothing that can be customized to fit. You can offer them your actual measurements, or you can choose a standard size (0 – 26W), and even if you choose a standard size you can provide them with your bra size and height for a more custom fit. Once you have chosen your size… you can also customize the look of the garment! Want longer sleeves? A deeper v-neckline? A longer skirt length? No problem, eShakti offers these features as well (custom sizing and style alterations are an additional $7.50). On top of all these fab features, eShakti says they will ship in three business days and your item will be delivered within 7-10 business days.

Perusing the eShakti site, I saw many styles that would be flattering to many body types. I chose the Ruffle Trim Wrap Dress because it looked like my personal style. It’s something I could wear to a daytime wedding, a night out on the town, even when I assist my husband on photo shoots. I like wearing dresses because I think I blend in better with the guests, and it’s actually easier to crawl around, carry stuff like batteries and business cards and water bottles with a dress (I usually wear my black shirtdress but a sleeveless version would be more comfortable for hot days). This dress has pockets (always awesome), is cotton (doesn’t have to be dry cleaned), and a wrap style (flattering, and also gives me a waistband where I can clip battery packs and Camelbaks for photo shoots).

As promised by eShakti, the dress arrived in less than a week. It came in such a tiny box, I couldn’t believe it was the dress (seriously, you would think this box was holding an iPad, not a ruffly dress). I was pleased with such shipping – I have ranted before about too much shipping material, and though the box was small, the dress was carefully packed and in excellent condition.

eShakti also is low on extra stuff with their packaging. While it’s charming to get fancy hang tags, thank you notes and such I find it to be a waste of lovely trees. I know where the dress came from, and I am happy to see that the price is kept low because they keep superfluous costs low.

On to the dress. The dress is a soft cotton sateen – more like what sheets are made of than your typical cotton sundress. This is a GOOD thing. The dress has great drape, a bit of stretch, and saturated black color. This dress looks more expensive than its $59.95 pricetag. The ruffles have a serged edge which keeps them from rolling or being too stiff, the dress is carefully made. If I were to show you the back of the ruffled edge, you would see it looks just as finished as the exposed side. The self belt is a ice wide width, the opening for the wrap is appropriate to the size of the belt (no exposed skin). There are two buttons where the wrap meets which controls the neckline from being too low and also gives a better fit.

I am so impressed with the bodice of this dress. I have big breasts, and a soft body. Cotton wrap dresses rarely work on me – I usually have to pin, wear a camisole, a minimizer bra, all sorts of work-arounds to make it fit. Not with this one. Underneath I have my everyday bra and you can’t see it in the neckline, under the arms, or at the back. It’s not too tight, quite comfortable and secure. Very flattering!

Unfortunately, as you can tell from the pictures the bottom half of the dress isn’t as awesome. While the dress appeared to have a fuller skirt online, in person it’s a bit too straight to accommodate such large ruffles. I feel as though I am wearing a Flamenco costume. I don’t have large hips or thighs, and wonder how this would fit on a woman with a more hourglass shape – I would think it would cling too much for her comfort. Though I love pockets, I think they attribute to the weird fit.

The picture from the eShakti site

Online, the dress shows the self belt wrapping so you can tie a pretty bow on the same side as the wrap closure. As you can see from my pictures, this isn’t possible in real life. The ties are too short; if I tied it on the correct side I wouldn’t have any hanging and on the incorrect side I can only achieve a knot.

If this dress had more of an a-line or full skirt and longer ties I think I would want to marry this dress, and beg eShakti to make it for me in a bright color of taffeta or shantung and a fun print in this same silky cotton. I’d be the crazy lady who has the same dress in a dozen different fabrics. But with this strange bottom half, I don’t know if I would wear this again (my husband even mentioned that the dress fit weird). If I had gone with a custom fit, I may not have encountered this problem.

I’d love to hear your reviews of eShakti – have you shopped with them before? What are your experiences? Is it worth it for me to try them again in the future?

Note: I was compensated for this review with a free dress of my choice from eShakti. All opinions are my own.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Express. All opinions are 100% mine.

Right after college I had a job I didn't enjoy. I went to my favorite store, Express, for a bit of retail therapy. My favorite salesperson Steph (yes I shopped there so much I knew the salespeople by name and they knew me) asked me why she hadn't seen me recently. "I've been working." She said I didn't look happy, I told her about my job. She suggested I quit my job and work for Express. And that is exactly what I did!

Over the next five years I worked my way up the Express career ladder... and got up close and personal with their clothing... especially Express jeans. I had always had trouble finding women's jeans that both fit, flattered, and were on trend. Express accomplished all three then... and they still do now. If there is a popular denim trend out there, you can be sure to find it at Express, and you can be sure to find a cut and length that is perfect for you.

I am totally loving the colored jean trend, and Express has all sorts of colors available, including these adorable red skinnies. From denim leggings to wide-leg jeans, size 00 to 14, short or long, Express is a great place to go for of-the-minute denim trends in a wide range of sizes and lengths.

Well you can be a denim diva this season with the Express giveaway where you could get free jeans! Express will be giving away 50 free pairs of jeans, and the winner could be you. And after you enter, let me know in the comments below what style of Express jean you would want if you were the winner!

I was so excited for the opportunity as that I have always found Karen Kane to be a clothing line that is perfect for the busy woman. Karen Kane offers wearable fashion that is figure-flattering, stylish without being trendy, and at a reasonable price. As Karen Kane says on her website, "A woman needs simple, stylish clothes because life is complicated. As a wife, mother, and professional I need to know my clothes are polished enough for work and relaxed enough for weekends, are easy to maintain, can travel with ease, and have the integrity to last a long time, not just a season or two."

Sounds a lot like the shopping advice I give on Wardrobe Oxygen!

I was able to try out two dresses and one of their jackets and I was impressed by the classic style and quality manufacturing.

The Pearl Button Ruffle Jacket from Karen Kane has Chanel-esque details which really appealed to me. I loved the pearl and pave buttons. The jacket is unlined linen so it is very wearable in the summer. I paired with a sequined tank and dark jeans for a casual look, but this jacket could easily dress up with a sheath dress.

I liked the two dresses I received from Karen Kane - both are stretchy, figure-flattering, and would be great for travel. The Confetti Short Lace Dress is so much fun - all this lovely black mesh fringe made me feel like a flapper! The Ruffle Silk Tank Dress is begging to be taken on vacation - it's so soft and comfortable, would pack up small, not wrinkle, and can dress up or down with ease.

Well now it's your turn to experience Karen Kane! One Wardrobe Oxygen reader will win a $200 shopping spree with a Karen Kane stylist at their local mall! If you live within 50 miles of a department store where Karen Kane is sold, a Karen Kane stylist will join you to help you shop for the best pieces that fit and flatter your body and lifestyle. If you are not in the vicinity of a store that carries Karen Kane, you will receive a $200 credit to shop at KarenKane.com once their online shop opens on July 1st.
When I was a personal shopper, one of my clients was a Mary Kay representative and from her I purchased some skin and hand care, but I never tried the makeup. So when BlogHer contacted me asking if I would like to review some pieces of makeup from Mary Kay® , I jumped at the chance.

I was sent three shadows, a blush, a mascara and a lip color. I was also sent their Compact Mini; this compact was set up to house the shadows and blush via magnet, a compartment to store the brushes, and a large mirror. I had a similar compact once from another brand, but love Mary Kay’s version for its shape, strength, the mirror, and the smart area to hold the applicators.

Mary Kay® asked about my skin tone and eye color and sent products they felt would be flattering on me. I received Mineral Eye Color in Sienna, Silky Caramel, and Midnight; Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush, Ultimate Mascara in Black, and Tinted Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rose.

Shy Blush is a gorgeous shade, quite similar to Nars Orgasm, but with a hint more warmth to it. It has a subtle shimmer that makes the skin glow, but it’s still wearable for the office and daytime. The mineral formula feels silky on the skin, doesn’t look cakey, and wears beautifully all day.

I looked at the shadows and didn’t feel as though they would look good on me. Though I have pale skin and brown eyes, I often don’t like wearing brown shadows because I think they make me look tired. And blue eye shadow? I hadn’t worn that color since middle school. However, I felt Mary Kay knew best so I tried them. I used Silky Caramel as a base color and applied it up to my brow bone, Sienna on the lid and a bit above the crease in my lid to create a contour, and then I used Midnight as an accent. I used a stiff brush to wiggle it into the lash line and was amazed at how the deep sparkly indigo color made my eyes really pop. I then decided to try an evening look and used Midnight with a contour brush to add depth and a smoky look. Again, I was amazed at how beautiful and non-‘80s the navy shadow was. The color combination was unexpected but quite beautiful; I loved the mineral formula because the shadows applied easily and lasted all day. They almost have a creamy consistency so no issue with shadow falling on my cheekbones and getting everywhere.

The Tinted Lip Balm was a fun option – I had recently gotten a tinted balm from Burt’s Bees and liked it except that it didn’t have sunscreen. Next day, this product arrived as though Mary Kay® read my mind! Rose is a pinky-red that looks natural and feels great on the lips. It’s slightly shiny, sheer, and a perfect lip product for summer. The packaging is great – slim and easy to slip into a pocket or beach bag and the cap really stays on (a bonus in my book!).

And the mascara. Well I am constantly on the lookout for a Holy Grail mascara. I love DiorShow but hate the price and how quickly you can run out of a tube. I have tried dozens of mascaras and now wish I had tried Mary Kay sooner. Their Ultimate Mascara is AMAZING! It’s not too wet, not too dry. The brush gives an even yet thick application, I can layer without getting spider lashes, and I am left with thick, lush, dark lashes that can look amazing for day or be uber lush for evening. It has Smart Wiper technology which is supposed to only have the right amount of product on the brush – well it really works. I love this mascara so much, I know I will be purchasing another tube when this one is finished.

I purposely wake up an hour earlier than I need to, so I have the house to myself. While my husband and daughter sleep upstairs, I head to the bathroom for a long hot shower. I then pad downstairs in my ratty old hot pink terry robe and fleece slippers, let out the dogs, and take my time reading email and catching up on Facebook and Twitter while slowly enjoying my breakfast of coffee and oatmeal. That hour of Me Time relaxes me and prepares me for whatever the rest of the day holds for me.

When I told people I was writing about the best part of waking up for me, everyone immediately said, “Folgers in your cup!” Amazing how Folgers’ jingle is such a part of our Americana.

Folgers is looking for a fresh sound for their jingle and is having a contest to look for their next jingle star. There are some amazingly talented folks who have entered and one will be the winner of $25,000, and potentially appear in a future Folgers Coffee commercial.

Visit BestPartOfWakingUp.com and vote for the best then come back here and leave a comment telling me who is best. Friedman, MD, along with Joy H. Kunishige, MD and Kristel D. Polder, MD.

With so many skin care treatments available, and so many claims of miracle cures, it’s hard to know what works and what doesn’t. Beautiful Skin Revealed is the definitive source for readers looking to separate help from hype when it comes to wrinkles, age spots, acne, varicose veins, birthmarks, blotchiness, and other common skin problems. Grounded in science, it explains why these conditions occur, the latest treatment options available, and what results can be expected from these treatments. Complementing the in-depth dermatological information are case studies of real patients. Through compelling personal stories and photographs, they share how minor procedures had a profound impact on their lives. Conversations with the doctor and insider tips are included in each chapter, helping the reader understand how the combination of the right dermatologist and the treatment can make them look as great as they feel.
All the reviews on Amazon are glowing, but as someone who is friends with authors, I know those reviews may not all be genuine and may come from loving friends and clients. I did my own search for reviews of this book online and was pleased to see that most were just as glowing, though I did find this one which is a very honest review. The book is geared towards women of all ages, and each chapter is dedicated to a specific skin care problem or group of problems. There are before and after photos, and stories from some of Dr. Friedman's patients.
Crew Swimsuit

Before I had Emerson, I was a big fan of J. Crew swimsuits – they were stylish, yet classic. They always had a style that would cover my belly but not make me look like a grandma. I had a strapless one-piece in an ivory and brown zebra print that hid the tummy but looked sexy; and my everyday suit was a bright aqua halter one-piece that supported and flattered my bust, let me dive into the surf without it all hanging out, but had a bit of fun with the cut and color. After Emerson was born, these suits no longer fit, and if they did, they surely wouldn’t flatter this new body.

I went to one of those shops in the mall that specialize in women’s bathing suits – the type that swears they have a suit for all shapes and sizes. The teenager with neon bands on her braces was utterly clueless and I wandered around on my own. I found TWO suits that were in my size, and both were black and had a big matronly skirt and high neckline. Not sexy, not modern, not flattering. I ended up purchasing a suit online – a company that claims to also have suits for all bodies, but no direction on what is best for what shape, what lifestyle. It was black, it was boring, but at least it covered and supported the breasts, sucked in the belly, and was skirt-free.

last year I wore that same suit, though it was a bit too big. I only wore it a couple of times, and didn’t want to again go through the horror of swimsuit shopping. This year with my weight loss, I KNEW I needed a new suit, and anyway the idea of wearing that boring black suit made me dread warmer weather.

Just as I was starting to research how to find a decent suit for this summer, I was contacted by SwimSpot.com.

SwimSpot.com sent me an email informing me they, “have [a] Fit Specialist Program [where] women can make an appointment, call in and talk with a specialist to see what the perfect swimsuit for their body and preference is.” Okay, they had my attention. I went to their site and saw really pretty suits – ones I would be willing to wear in public. Suits that would hide the soft belly but not scream MOM. However I went through all the brands and styles and was utterly confused as to what would actually work for me. After having a baby, your body becomes a foreign country – you have to re-learn what silhouettes work best for your frame.

I made an appointment with a SwimSpot specialist and she gave me a call at a time I told them was convenient. While sitting on my living room couch drinking a cup of coffee and watching my daughter play at her toy kitchen, I chatted with a SwimSpot fit specialist. We talked about how I am a new mother, that I have large breasts that have lost their fullness from nursing, a soft belly that needs some major Lycra to keep it in place. We discussed how I am petite, but not short in the torso so I don’t want a low-cut leg opening that will shorten my legs even more. We talked about suits I have liked in the past, how I feel about colors, and prints. We discussed how I wanted a suit that was modern and hip, yet could handle a toddler swim class or a dive into the Atlantic. It was a true conversation – she seemed really interested in getting to know me and my swimsuit needs. I even told her how refreshing it was to chat with someone passionate about what they sell - it was awesome to hear the pride and excitement in her voice when she thanked me for that compliment.

After our chat, she had me go to the SwimSpot.com site and check out a couple brands she thought were right up my alley. Brands like Athena that have control panels in the tummy, and Next, who sells suits based upon bra size, not dress size. The fit specialist didn’t try to force me into the most expensive suit on the site, and she was nice enough to not show me any bikinis or suits that didn’t support or suck in. I ended up looking at around a dozen suits that would work really well for my body and my lifestyle – suits that blew my ugly black Mom Suit out of the water. Not only that, the pricepoint for all of these suits were LOWER than what I paid for Ugly Mom Swimsuit!

My new bathing suit!

My final choice? The Athena Maldives One-piece in Turquoise. It’s like an updated version of my beloved J. Crew halter one-piece suit. Same fabulous color, but a Slim-Power lining that keeps my postpartum belly in check, some really cute rouching at the torso that disguises yet flatters, an adjustable halter strap for a custom fit, and necessary D-cup to cover and support my breasts.

The suit arrived at my home quickly, and was packaged in a white mesh pouch with SwimSpot ribbon. I was impressed with the quality – rivaled my $150 Mom Suit, yet a gorgeous color. It has great details like having the bum of the suit lined in tan fabric – no crack visible when the suit gets wet (something I noticed while on my honeymoon in a red halter tankini I had from J. Crew).

I liked this suit so much on me, that I left it on, put on my bathrobe and surprised my husband with it when he got home from teaching yoga. Have to say, he liked it too! I felt so confident in this suit, I ALMOST took pictures of me in it for this post. Almost… probably would if my thighs didn’t glow in the dark with their winter pallor. You never know, I may show it off on the blog this summer!

If you have a basic wardrobe of clothing staples, you can add variety and personal style with an amazing scarf, necklace, or belt. My mom has an amazing scarf collection – pieces she has picked up on her travels around the globe, gifts from friends, pieces she has inherited or found for a fab price at places like TJ Maxx. I learned from her, and have been collecting scarves over the years. I love how a great scarf can transform the silhouette and neckline of a blouse, transform the look of a dress by being a belt, even add color to a purse when tied on the strap. One of my favorite styles of scarves are silk oblong scarves – they can be doubled up at the throat, worn as a belt, looped at the neck for a casual look, make a great headband. So versatile!

I recently learned about Scarves by Maria - Maria Vonderheide is a fashion designer who designs handpainted silk scarves. She paints all the scarves herself from her studio in her basement. The prints are utterly gorgeous, the scarves so soft. I was lucky to receive one, and one of you will be lucky enough to have one for yourself!

From brightly-colored tie dyes and Pucci-esque swirls, to muted washes of color to subtly accent, Scarves by Maria has a print that would work with any outfit or any woman’s personal style. Maria’s scarves range in price from $10 to $20 each, which is a total steal.
If you are a fan of sites like ShopStyle, you may like Boutiques.com. You have the ability to search for certain styles, designers, and check out the boutiques created by bloggers, celebs, and fashion brands. I have to admit, I was slow on the Boutiques.com bandwagon because of all the hype. I know me, I know what I like, and I don't need some Web site to tell me what to buy.

However the reason I became a fan of Boutiques.com is because it really helps you “get” your personal style. Boutiques.com is completely free – check it out, set up your own boutique. The site will have you do a survey – do you like the look on Anne Hathaway, or Sienna Miller? The style of Gala Darling, or Rumi Neely? A shot of tequila or a glass of red wine? After choosing which styles you like the best, Boutiques.com will tell you what they believe to be your personal style – Classic, Romantic, Casual Chic, Edgy, Street or Boho. If you think that the site got it wrong, you can choose your own genre – or a combination of different ones.

Once you have found your genere/s, you can create an account and then get into the nitty-gritty. Hate the color pink and have a passion for polka-dots? Let the site know. After you have entered all your specifics, Boutiques.com will show you a bunch of clothing and accessories. You can then let the site know what you hate, what you love, and why you love it.

It’s fun to do a bit of virtual window shopping, but the main reason I really like this site is because it reminded me of my personal style. As trends change from season to season, it is so easy to get swept up in them. Head to a mall, click on your fave online boutique or walk into a speciality shop and you could leave with a vintage embroidered sherling coat, even though you feel most at home in Lily Pulitzer.

I know my style – it’s simple, clean lines, clear colors, bold shapes and accessories. However I get swayed by lacy details, boho styles, and preppy summer dresses. After completing the style quizzes, I have to admit I was a bit confused – am I Edgy? Classic? Casual Chic? Boho? I decided to click all four. However after narrowing down my preferences in regard to colors, prints, and silhouttes, I realized that I am NOT Casual Chic, and am actually more on the Edgy side than Classic or Boho.

As I clicked through clothes and accessories, letting Boutiques.com know what I loved and what I hated, I saw a pattern. This pattern wasn’t what fashion magazines were shoving down my throat, or what was on the runway of the hottest designers. The pattern was my inherent true personal style showing through – those clean lines, solid colors, bold shapes and accessories. Large slouchy bags, tall boots with a biker edge, lots of dresses with architectural lines, and surprisingly a lot of Alexander McQueen. It wasn’t shocking, it was a reminder of who I am.

I know I won’t be buying anything through Boutiques.com (and I find my tastes FAR exceed that which is in my beat-up old wallet). However I find this site to be a really useful style tool.

Do you open your closet each morning and wonder who the heck you are? If so, you’re not the only one. It’s okay to love a lot of trends, but often when you sway from your personal style, you end up buying items that you rarely wear. You also end up with a frustrating wardrobe full of items that don’t work with one another. If you feel your closet has more faces than Eve, you may want to try out Boutiques.com. It may help you find your You, and if not, it may be a nice reminder of the you that you have been hiding under those trendy disposable pieces.

Review - Lands End Outerwear

Almost a decade ago, I asked for the Lands End Squall Parka for Christmas. Always one to have a wool winter coat, I realized I was in desperate need of something a bit more water-repellent, wind-repellent, and durable. Be it scraping ice off my windshield, shoveling the front walk, going for a long walk on a sunny but blustery winter day, I knew the Squall Parka was a good bet.

Wearing my Squall Parka in 2005 while snuggling with my dog Ruckus

I chose a rusty orange color, which I thought was fun and modern. I forgot that a little South Park character wears a parka in the same color. Every time I wore it, someone called me Kenny. But I didn’t care – that coat was fantastic. It kept me warm, but I had flexibility, breathability, and I loved that I could throw it in the washer and dryer. I still have my Squall Parka, and choose it when I take the dogs for a wintry walk, or want to play with Emerson in the snow.

When I started working in DC three years ago, I realized I needed a good commuting coat. Something that could cover my rear when I sat on cold stone park benches, kept my legs warm, yet was able to be shoved in a bag if the day got too warm. My first day of work was a cold November Tuesday, and I stood on a street corner next to a woman in a dark olive quilted coat that came to her lower thigh. The quilting was brilliant and changed at the torso to whittle the waist. Stand collar kept her neck warm, and it look fantastic paired with an ivory scarf and knit cap. I asked her where she got her coat, she said Lands End.

Earlier this year in my now-discontinued Lands End Down Commuter Coat

Again, I headed to Lands End where I got their now-discontinued reversible Commuter coat (most similar current coat is the Women’s Lightweight Down Coat). It came in olive and a couple other colors, but I chose black because I knew it was more appropriate to my personal style and wardrobe. The coat had one side that was smooth, another that was quilted. Lightweight, but warm since it was made of down. Water resistant. Pockets that zipped up (on both sides too!), and easily washed and dried in the machine. I loved this coat, and still do. It’s the perfect commuter coat for a mid-Atlantic state like Maryland where the winters are cold but not frigid, and there is often a chance of precipitation that is more likely to be rain than snow. I wore this coat almost every day until I got pregnant, and even wore it often then, though left open with a pashmina covering the belly. I was happy to know that this coat was still a classic style that would treat me and my wardrobe well this winter.

Lands End sent me their Luxe Down Coat, and I have to say I was a bit nervous. A furry collar and a belt on a quilted coat? I was sure to look like the Michelin Man. I loved the ivory and gray colors, but thought it would be a bit too marshmallow for my petite and curvy frame. Since I already had a black coat from Lands End, I decided to choose Spice Brown. I don’t normally wear brown, but thought the brown would look nice with my hair (and the coat’s furry collar).

I loved that I could choose this coat in petite. I am not always a petite in clothing, but with coats, I often find the sleeves too long and the shoulders drooping. With past experience with Lands End, I knew that my size 12/14 body would be best with a Petite Large.

Me in my Lands End Luxe Down Coat

My sizing guess was accurate – the Luxe Down Coat fits beautifully, even with a thick sweater. It is much warmer than my other Lands End down coat – so much so that I couldn’t really wear it until recently. The belt is long, but that is so you can tie it instead of buckle it. The fur is removable, as is the entire hood. The coat has deep pockets so your gloves won’t fall out, and knit wrist cuffs to block the wind and snow.

The brown is a nice shade – deep and chocolatey. The faux fur trim is nice quality and doesn’t shed. I found the belted quilted style to be relatively figure-flattering, even being a thick coat. As with my other down coat, this coat is shaped at the waist, not a straight up and down silhouette. I think the belt really keeps me from looking like the Michelin Man, and it does a good job of preventing the wind from flying up the hem of the coat. This coat is pretty much the same length as my other Lands End down coat, which is a great length for pants as well as skirts. I have worn the jacket open and have either removed the belt or loosened it in back to take up some of the slack and not have the ends drag.

Sometimes you don’t know what you will love until you try it on. If Lands End hadn’t sent me this coat, I would have never considered a quilted belted winter coat. And now I am a huge fan.

Note: Lands End did provide me with this coat, however all opinions are my own and not biased by my monetary compensation.

Marc Jacobs and Shopbop Giveaway (CONTEST CLOSED)

I am not one who is obsessed over designers. I believe style comes from the shape, structure and silhouette of a garment or accessory, not by the label that is on it. Therefore, I have major respect for designers that consistently create collections that are not only popular, but are beautiful and often quite wearable. One of these designers is Marc Jacobs. Ever since his early years making grunge wear haute couture, Marc Jacobs has been able to be cutting edge, unique, yet wearable in the real world.

Last Call Studio opened on Friday, but they gave local fashion bloggers the opportunity to check out the store a day early. It was so cool to meet so many other fabulous fashionistas in the DC area while learning about Last Call Studio.

Last Call Studio isn’t your typical outlet mall shop full of damaged and last year’s styles. While Last Call Clearance Centers (like the one I have visited at Arundel Mills Mall in Maryland) are stocked with leftover merchandise from the Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus stores, Last Call Studios by Neiman Marcus are located in towns and stocked exclusively with products directly purchased from designers and brands, usually half price. This means they have current styles of brands you love and covet.

Wandering around the store, I saw so many gorgeous clothes and accessories. A whole wall of sunglasses from brands like Gucci and Prada; bags from Marc Jacobs, Salvatore Ferragamo and Michael Kors; shoes from Sam Edelman, L.A.M.B and Tory Burch; dresses from Diane von Furstenberg, Muse, and MICHAEL Michael Kors, a whole section of J Brand and Joe’s Jeans, and much much more. Many items were an additional 30% off their already reduced price.

Unlike big box discount retailers like TJ Maxx, Last Call Studio is designed and merchandised like a higher-end store. The modern fixtures, the orange accent walls, the clean spacious fittings rooms were a welcome change. The staff was there to assist - answer questions, put items on hold, jump on another register when the line got too long. It was a pleasure shopping at Last Call Studio.

And shopping I did – I scored a fabulous pair of Miss Sixty leather booties for less than $100, while I see them currently being sold online for $150. Pretty impressive!

Last Call Studio is located in Dallas, Texas and Rockville, Maryland. A third Last Call Studio will be opening in Paramus, New Jersey this coming weekend. Don’t have a Last Call Studio near you? Check out lastcall.com for fabulous designer discount shopping from the comfort of your home!

I believe any woman can benefit from control garments. From hard-core cinchers to a bit of control on top of those tights, control garments can help women of all ages and sizes look more pulled together and polished in certain clothes and for certain events. However no one wants to spend an arm and a leg on something that isn’t a visible part of their ensemble!

An affordable collection that won’t break the bank is L’eggs Profiles. This budget-friendly secret weapon smoothes, tightens and tones to boost your bottom line for a smoother you. With four no-hose styles to choose from: capri, waist smoother capri, mid-thigh, and waist smoother mid-thigh, there is a wardrobe solution for every outfit. L’eggs is being generous enough to send me some to try – I will be sure to post a review on My Wardrobe Today once I try them out.

Well L’eggs wants one Wardrobe Oxygen reader to also enjoy their Profiles line. One reader will win all four of their no-hose styles of contouring garments (Capri, Waist Smoother Capri, Mid-thigh, and Waist Smoother Mid-thigh) in their size (M, L or XL)!
Winner will be chosen at random and will be notified by email. You will have 48 hours to get back to me, or else another winner will be chosen. No duplicate comments. Contest ends November 3, 2010.
