I’ve been debating about how to close out Wardrobe Review for awhile. Should I not say anything and just let it drift away? I was leaning this direction because I think, such is the life of a blog. When it stops appearing in your reader, it is out of sight- out of mind. No reason to call it back to mind just to disappear, right?

But then, I thought maybe that is inconsiderate. I know some of you have been reading my blog for a long time and maybe I had not been completely blinked out of your world yet. Maybe some one was wondering if there was a heinous accident in which I was smothered by over-priced denim and cardigans. It would be cruel to leave them in suspense.

So I am writing, hopefully not to say good-bye to all of you, but to finally let Wardrobe Review, in all its many incarnations, go.

I do not close out this blog with any bitterness. Some of you may remember me venting frustrations with blogging in the past. I don’t know that it was wise to share those thoughts, because I don’t know that I shared them clearly, and worse, I may have appeared to under appreciate you.

You can’t tell from my archives, because I have deleted a lot of old posts, but there was a time when I posted here multiple times a week for many months. It was during this time that I became frustrated with the “success” of my blog compared to others. It seemed to me that I tried very hard to write well, honestly, and share useful information. While the most adored blogs were about mass consumption, vanity, and lack of imagination.

I may repeat my mistake by bringing it up lol but I wanted to say that venting about it here on the blog, allowed me to let it go and I saw that the readers I did have were more important than mere numbers becasue we shared something. We were like minded personalities and as in real life, to me, one person who ‘gets it’ is worth more than a million superficial acquaintances. I carry that experience forward.

After that I saw the blog differently and I realized I only blogged because, 1- I love to write and 2-I enjoyed connecting with those few. I knew then I didn’t want anything to do with blog success really. I didn’t want to advertise or to meet PR people. I didn’t care or desire to participate in the ‘real’ fashion and retail industry. And so, I went on posting here only when I felt the urge.

Over the summer I gave a lot of thought about writing a book. Thanks to all who encouraged me! I was torn for a long time though on what perspective to take in the narration. From what point of view to share the information. I finally decided the most honest way to write would be to write it just as I have done here on the blog. But, I’ve already done that It’s already here. And I wrote about it while I lived it and while it was important to me. I could never rewrite the evolution better than I did the first time.

In the 3 plus years that I have been writing Wardrobe Review, I have posted on every aspect of style, fashion, and shopping that has ever interested me. To continue would be to just recycle old ideas and thoughts.

Instead I want to push myself to write something new. So, I will not be disappearing entirely. I will continue to write on my book blog, Aesop to Oz, and if you ever want to stop by and say Hi, I will be pleased to see you. Don’t hesistate to post an off topic comment or feel out of place becasue it is book talk. There, as here, it is really just me blathering on about whatever comes into my head.

If we don’t talk again, know that I deeply appreciate you reading Wardrobe Review and I hope that this long winded post gave you, and I, a satisfying ending.

Today is more of an experiment than a completed outfit. I’m wearing my COH Super Flare jeans and Free People crafty cuff thermal. I needed another layer though because it’s cold and I am sick. Must have lots of layers when sickly.

I started out wearing the American Eagle Dolman sleeve sweater, which is comfy but a casual look that photos pretty poorly. I’ll stick to wearing this top with a thinner leg jean.

I decided to change the sweater out for something more structured. I really like the cropped jacket with the jeans but this is more of a mild weather Spring look.

I tried on some lighter color cardigans, not shown, but that was not working at all. The large flare on these jeans really needs something sleek and darker up top. So I grabbed my black cardigan and a scarf.

I look like I have cramps in this photo, *pose fail* lol

I don’t know that I love the green on green with the scarf. The scarf does have some blue in it but the green shade is a yellow undertone while the top is blue. I do like how the pattern scarf picks up on the lace sleeves, without overwhelming. Getting closer to a complete look.

I miss having these jeans hemmed to a 4″ heel length. They definitely look better with a long silhouette. But I hardly ever wear a 4″ heel, so I had them shorted to a 2.75″ heeled shoe.

Free People Crafty cuff thermal
2- Anthropologie Stork club jacket
3-J.Crew crystal button cardigan and Anthro scarf

An All Saints trench coat or leather jacket especially makes me want to throw down with some aliens, Gwen style.

The only thing is, the dress color might totally wash me out. It comes in black too but with black suspenders, which I don’t love. It’s that vintage cognac leather on the straps that takes it over the top for me. The dress does come in white with the brown leather suspenders but ehh, white it so bright. Thoughts?

Last week Dh and I went to the Beady Eye concert. I felt like I had to really scrounge in my closet to find some to wear. I wanted to be comfortable and warm, yet not look like a mom! Turned out the club was so cold I ended up wearing my coat the entire time, fashion fail lol.

Wearing: Anthro Polaire vest, Free People crochet cuff tee, Joe’s Visionaire jeans, American Eagle side-zip booties

The American Eagle Side-zip booties worked out really well. They were comfortable enough right out of the box. I added an arch insole since the angle is not that supportive. The faux leather is not plastic or cheap looking. I took my regular size 7. Overall, great buy for $35.

The concert was amazing, although we had to wait for Beady Eye forrrrrever. We are old and it was past our bedtime by the time the show started at 10:30. So sad, I know lol. Here is a clip of my favorite song from the show, Man of Misery. I hope you will watch it because it is awesome. If you’re in Reader, you will probably have to click through to see it. If you’ve never heard of Beady eye they were essentially formerly Oasis, a band from Manchester England.

QUICK NOTE: I changed the blog template again ( I know, even Dh is laughing at me at this point). I just couldn’t deal with not having a sidebar, it’s hard to keep things organized with out one. Anyway, the new design is pretty streamline and simple, I think. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I also updated my old posts. I finally cropped my photos and added back a whole bunch of my outfit posts. You can find them under Wearing in the sidebar (yay for sidebars)

It’s been a real task to shop for winter clothes this year. Seems like retailers positively refuse to offer warm clothing. I pretty much gave up on trying to find sweaters and focused on layering.

Target thermals size XS or Small

I pick up a few new target thermals each year. The quality is crap and the colors are questionable lol, but they work for a season or two.

J.Crew vintage thermal henley size XS

I had high hopes for this and was a little disappointed. The fabric is nice, much thicker than you’ll normally get from JC. The purple is beautiful, that impossible to find elsewhere shade. But the sleeves are a bit strange. They feel as if they were sewn incorrectly around the shoulder and the sleeve length is shorter than I would like, with a tight cuff. Not a great layering top, more a wear on it’s own. I think this will be cute in the spring with a pencil skirt. I’m glad I did not size up to try and gain length because the body stretches out with wear.

J.Crew Funnelneck sweatshirt size XS

It’s a casual winter this year and I decided I need a sweatshirt. This one is big, soft, and warm. I went with an XS which gave me the fit like on the model, a little big and oversized. I did not want to feel trapped in a tight sweatshirt.

J.Crew Academy coat Sz 0

Of course you already know about my Academy coat. I’ve been wearing it every day.

Free People crochet cuff henley Sz XS

Since I cannot find any tops I like at Anthropologie, I’ve been building a Free People wishlist instead. I finally made it to the store on Friday and was glad I did not order online because the sizing was pretty all over the place. I took this top in an XS for a very fitted look. I’m planning on wearing it to a concert later this week.

Free People lace cuff henley sz Small

I love this top, the lace cuff is so pretty. I had a hard time picking a color but finally settled on the green. I went with my larger size in this one, a small. I am still working on figuring out what my true size in Free people is.

Free People Intarsia thermal Sz Medium

This pink thermal has not shown up online yet. It is from Free People’s Intimates collection. Not sure if it will come with matching leggings? The top comes in pink or blue and is $48. It totally reminds me of the 80s, an old school thermal that you might wear skiing. It is thick, but with a smooth texture, and very stretchy. It runs tiny though, I took a medium and the fair isle pattern still stretches out a bit much across the chest.

Citizens of Humanity Devote jeans sz 27

The next two are my meager Anthropologie black Friday order. I actually ordered Wed, so paid a bit more, but didn’t think I’d have a good chance at getting both jeans for 50% off. I decided to try a size up in the Citizens. I have never tried this cut on, crossing fingers they fit.

Joe’s Visionaire flare jeans Lainey wash sz 26

I haven’t tried this particular wash on but I decided to stick with my regular Joe’s size. Really hoping they are not cut too small in the thigh! My Citizens have already shipped but these are apparently lost some where in Anthro’s warehouse and are still pending.

American Eagle side zip bootie sz 7

At the last minute I decided to take a risk with AEs 40% off code and picked up these booties for $35. I’ve been looking for a black bootie with a low heel forever. These might fit the need while I keep my eye out for something higher quality. I have no idea if they will fit or be comfortable lol.

Ae Dolman sleeve sweater Sz Small

Again no idea on fit but I threw this in with my order since I thought it might work well over the many thermals I purchased recently. I like that the 3/4 sleeves will show off the lace and crochet cuffs of my other tops.

So that’s it for my winter shopping. Have you found any great winter pieces? What are you wearing recently?
