If you’d like to be part of Warm Up Buffalo but just don’t have the time to make a blanket, you can purchase the material and I will make the blanket for you! Just let me know when and where I can pick up the material and I will make the blanket and donate it in your name! If you’d like to be a monetary donor, you can contact me and I will let you know where to mail your check and I will purchase the material, make the blanket and donate it in your name!

I have received inquiries about whether you can donate a store bought blanket, scarf, hats or mittens and the answer is ABSOLUTELY! Any donation that will help keep someone warm this winter is graciously accepted!

My goal is to get as many blankets, scarves, pillows, hats & mittens as I possibly can to donate before the weather gets too cold! There are so many people that have fallen on hard times, especially this past year, with the economy dropping as it has. I, myself, have fallen victim to the economy this year losing my job in May. But I believe I can still make a difference in someone’s life. So can you! Join me in this worthy quest to bring warmth and comfort to someone who truly needs it!

Thank you for visiting my site! My name is Missy and I have lived in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY my entire life. As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to help those in need, but for some reason or other, I never did. Well – that stops now! I am hoping there are more people like myself that want to give to those who are not as fortunate as we are to have a warm roof over our heads, clothes on our backs and food in our bellies!

I am making a proposition to everyone that reads this. It’s quick, easy and will help a man, woman or child to be warm this cold winter. Join me in making 2-panel fleece blankets in either child or adult size. All you need is a little bit of fleece material, scissors and about half an hour to create warmth for someone who desperately needs it. You can also make quick fleet hats, scarves and mittens if you’d like! All of these items are very much needed right here in our own community! Here is the 2-panel fleece blanket pattern:

Material needed:

Child size -1-1/2 yards of fleece in 2 different colors/patterns

Adult size – 2 yards of fleece in 2 different colors/patterns

4″ x 4″ piece of paper (for cutting out corners)

Scissors

Take 2 pieces of fleece fabric and lay one on top of the other, keeping in mind one will be the top layer and the other is the bottom layer. Make sure all edges match, trimming any necessary edges as needed. Place 4″ x 4″ piece of paper in one corner and cut both layers of fabric out around paper. Do this at each corner. Once each corner has been cut out you are ready to cut your fringes. Starting at left corner cut out, move in 1″ and cut into both pieces of fabric up 4″. Move 1″ to the right and repeat all the way around both pieces of fleece. *IMPORTANT* Make sure you are cutting fringes of both pieces of fabric at same time so that they match. Once all fringe has been cut, you are ready to tie them off. Take one fringe from front panel and tie in knot with matching fringe from back panel. Repeat all the way around. CONGRATULATIONS!! You have made a home-made blanket to bring warmth and comfort to someone in need!

Once your blanket, scarf, hat or mittens are ready, please contact me at warmupbuffalo@gmail.com and I will make arrangements with you to come pick up your items! All items made and donated to Warm Up Buffalo will be given to the Buffalo City Mission – Men’s Shelter and Cornerstone Manor for women & children, Compass House & Hospice facilities right here in Buffalo – Your Community!!

I want to thank each and every one of you who donates to Warm Up Buffalo and the people in need here in our community! We need to take care of each other, in any small way that we can! Please post your comments and suggestions! I look forward to hearing from you all!

~ Missy
