In a bid to better engage with communities some new technology is being tested tomorrow night for a #shipstonlive event.

Earlier this year the first #shipstonlive was held in conjunction with Stratford College, but this time we will be testing out a new way to stream live meetings, potentially making it possible for far more commuity forums to shared live over the internet.

Shipston Stour Community Forum is being held at Shipston High School from 6.30pm, and anyone is welcome to attend in person at the event.

But if you can’t make it, we are hoping you will be able to log on and watch us broadcasting live.

The aim is to make it possible for people to sit at home and see exactly what’s happening at their Community Forum. With a single click tomorrow night you can take part in a community forum from home by simply logging on to www.shipstonlive.com .

Throughout the live event Twitter will be updated on @warksdirect with tweets featuring the hashtag #shipstonlive so that you can ask questions and take part in the event through the social media channel too.

Log on at 7pm or join the community forum in person from 6.30pm for a festive mince pie and a cup of tea and then from 7pm:

Your Chance to Quiz Orbit Housing Maintenance Team

A Day in the Life of a Dog Warden

Set Priorities for Your Local Police Team

And much more!

There was standing room only at a busy Shipston and Stour Community Forum last night, with even more people watching the discussion on social media.

Last night not only those in the room, but anyone on Twitter, could take part in the forum held at Pillerton Priors Village Hall. The ‘trend’ was monitored by the use of the hashtag #shipstonlive on Twitter.

A brief video was also made to show some of the content from the evening:

The forum aims to give everyone the chance to have a say in what is happening in their community, and by using Twitter Warwickshire County Council hopes to give me people the chance to get involved.

Last night many people took the opportunity to ‘retweet’ the messages going out via @WarksDirect on Twitter. Including Warwickshire Police’s Deputy Chief Constable.

This forum follows the live streaming of a Shipston forum in June, and we hope to once again stream a community forum live at the December meeting.

The south Warwickshire market town of Shipston is today being thrust into the 21st century with the launch of #shipstonlive a new way for everyone to get involved with their local community.

Imagine being able to sit at home and watch live exactly what is happening that may impact on your local community, and then even play a part in talking about it.

This is the ambitious plan for #shipstonlive, an event involving Warwickshire County Council, StratfordCollege, Warwickshire Police, Shipston Town Council,ShipstonPrimary School and many others.

As a result of the array of partners working together the Shipston Stour Community Forum will be the first in Warwickshrie to test out a live broadcast at its next meeting starting at 6.30pm on Tuesday, June 12.

The community forum will be held at the Sheldon Bosley Hub in Shipston onStour, but those who don’t make it in person, will be able to log on and watch the event happening live in their own homes.

Throughout the event Twitter will be updated on @warksdirect with all the tweets featuring the hashtag #shipstonlive to enable people to ask questions and take part in the event through the social media channel.

Cllr Colin Hayfield, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customers, Access and Physical Assets, said: “This is a very exciting idea, and we have a lot planned for the night.

“We understand that not everyone can make it to a community forum, but this will allow a far bigger audience to have a say in what is happening in their community.”

The forum will start at 6.30pm with a celebration of local seasonal produce courtesy of Stour Grown.

Forum topics in the evening include:

- Questions and answers to Orbit Housing.

- Shipston Senior Citizens Action Network goes back to school with youngsters from ShipstonPrimary Schoolteaching them how to navigate around an iPad – all happening live on air on the night.

- The State of the District debate – allowing everyone to have a say on what they think are the most important issues in the community.

- Meet the community police team, and help set the priorities for the next three months.

- And much more…

Cllr Peter Fowler, will be adding some creative flair to the event in providing an ‘anchorman’ role for the various video links. Cllr Fowler is also heavily involved in the work of Warwickshire Police Authority.

He said: “I’m very excited about this event. The potential to get people in and around Shipston talking and taking part is just huge.”
