Data Warehousing

Introduction, Evolution of data warehousing; decision support systems; goals, benefit, and challenges of data warehousing; architecture; data warehouse information flows; software and hardware requirements; approaches to data warehouse design; creating and maintaining a data warehouse; Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and multi-dimensional data, multi-dimensional modeling; view materialization; data marts; data warehouse metadata; data mining.

Scope and Objectives
Corporate decision makers require access to all the organization’s data, wherever it is located. To provide comprehensive analysis of the organization, its business, its requirements and any trends, require access to not only the current data in the database but also to historical data. To facilitate this type of analysis, data warehouses have been created to contain data drawn from several sources, maintained by different departments of the organization. This course will involve an in-depth study of various concepts needed to design and develop a data warehouse. It also provides an introduction to data mining and end user access tools for a data warehouse.

Network Security

The primary goal of the course is to introduce the student to system and application design aspects of network security including cryptographic, systemic and computational security aspects of the network / internetwork systems.

Scope and Objectives
The course covers fundamental aspects of security in a modern networked environment with the focus on system design aspects and cryptography in the specific context of network / inter-network security. It also dwells into basics of cryptographic techniques, algorithms and protocols required to achieve these properties; computational issues in implementing cryptographic protocols and algorithms; and system/application design issues in building secure networked systems

Software Project Management

A perspective on Software Management that emphasizes a balanced view of theory & practice, technology & people, customer value & provider profitability, strategies and tactics.

Objectives and Scope of this course: The purpose of this course is to provide a guideline to managing a successful software engineering project. Emphasis will be on the following topics:

Management theory and practice.
Functionality and framework of management.
Management disciplines.
Modern profiles and next generation process transitions.

Software Testing Methodologies

The course aims at providing a sound conceptual foundation in the area of Software Testing Methodologies with emphasis on concepts and techniques for testing and analysis of software. Software testing at unit, subsystem and system levels; Specification based testing and code based testing; Model based testing. Techniques and methods for software test generation and validation. Internetworking Technologies

The course aims at providing a sound conceptual foundation in the area of Multimedia Internetworking Technologies with emphasis on the design aspects. At the end of this course, students should be able to analyze, design, troubleshoot, configure, mange and maintain commonly used internetwork types apart from being able to begin Internetwork-oriented software development.

Multimedia Computing

The aim of this course is to introduce the concepts of multimedia computing techniques as used for various data streams, multimedia networks, operating systems and architecture. Emphasis will be given to theoretical, algorithmic and advanced architectural aspects of multimedia system design along with, detailed coverage of latest compression techniques available for text, images, audio and video data. After successful completion of the course student should be able to apply the concepts and techniques to various problem domains concerned with multimedia based applications and solutions.

Software Quality Management

Software Quality Management Concepts, Implementing quality models in the organization, characteristics of Initial Process, Repeatable process, Defined process, Managed Process and Optimizing Process, SQA and SEPG functions, Software planning and configuration management, Software Process Definition, Statistical Methods, Software Metrics, Optimizing Process, and Framework for Software Process Change

Scope of the Course

To understand architectural abstractions, localizing and codifying the ways components interact, and distinguish among the various ways in which architectural principles can be applied to software system and analysis and design.
To present a pattern-oriented approach to software architecture, without restricting to a particular paradigm say, object oriented.

Object Oriented Analysis and Design

Object orientation concepts, theories and principles; Fundamental concepts of the object model; classes, objects, methods and messages, encapsulation and inheritance, interface and implementation, reuse and extension of classes, inheritance and polymorphism; Process of object-oriented requirements specification, analysis and design; Notations for object-oriented analysis and design; Case studies and applications using some object oriented programming languages.

Technical Communication

Role and importance of communication; effectiveness in oral and written communication; technical reports; technical proposals; Research Papers, Interpersonal Communication; business correspondence; précis writing; memorandum; notices, agenda and minutes; oral communication related to meetings, seminars, conferences, group discussions, etc.; use of modern communication aids.

Computer Networks

The course aims at providing a sound conceptual foundation in the area of Computer Networks with emphasis on the design aspects. The course attempts to provide a balanced treatment of the state-of-the-art in the area and thus prepares the students for taking more rigorous and specialized courses in this and related fields. At the end of this course, students should be able to design, analyze, troubleshoot and maintain commonly used network types apart from being able to begin network-oriented software development.

Database Management Systems

This course covers concepts of database management systems, different data models, architecture, security and integrity. Topics to be covered include relational database design (conceptual as well as physical), query formulation, relational query languages like SQL, database applications, transaction management, distributed databases.

Operating Systems

Introductory concepts of Operating Systems; Process Management, Memory Management, File Systems-Security & Protection, Input- Output principles; Deadlocks detection and avoidance; Distributed computing; Examples of some widely used Operating Systems.

Programming Languages and Compiler Construction

The course introduces principles behind the design of common programming language features as well as principles and procedures behind the construction of a compiler.

The course introduces techniques for solving non-trivial problems by programming.

Discrete Structures For Computer Science

Introduction to discrete mathematical structures; Formal logic and predicate calculus; Sets, relations and functions; Proof techniques; Graphs and trees; Primes, factorization, greatest common divisor, residues and application to cryptology; Boolean algebra; Permutations, combinations and partitions; Recurrence relations and generating functions; Introduction to error-correcting codes; Formal languages and grammars, finite state machines.

Mathematics – II

At the end of the course, the student will in a position to:

Apply the ideas to solving problems in Linear programming, Statistics
Understand how and where to apply Numerical methods

Must have done 60% aggregate on B.Sc. graduates who have opted for Computer Science/Electronics, Physics, and Mathematics as subjects [OR]
Must have done aggregate and with Mathematics as a subject in their +2/PUCBCA/BCM graduates and
Must have 60% aggregate and with Mathematics as a subject in their +2/PUC

are eligible for this program. Short listing and selection is strictly based on merit.
