Both guests were directed to our Ozaukee County Historical Society Hazel Wirth Archives Research Center.

The Center is located in the Historic Interurban Railway Depot, just one block west of the Washington House Inn. The Research Center houses an extensive collection of:

  • Interurban Rail Memorabilia
  • Books on Local History & Wisconsin History
  • Photographs
  • Plat Maps
  • Birth, Marriage & Death Records
  • Genealogies of Local Families
  • Newspapers & Magazines
  • Church Records
  • Vintage Clothing

Most importantly are the volunteers who run the Center and take great pride in “Preserving and sharing the past for today…and future generations”

The mother daughter genealogy research team who stayed at the Inn from Rancho Cucamonga, California, wrote to thank us for steering them to the Center calling it a “Historical Society Intervention” (what fun!) one of the volunteers from the Center went so far as to jump in the guest’s rental car and escort them to the homestead they sought. Now that is dedication. It is stories such as this that make Cedarburg, Wisconsin, every ones hometown. Please come visit us soon.

The paintings are auctioned during the event on Saturday. Participating artists may show their event registrations to receive a discount on an overnight stay at the Inn.

Cedarburg and 10 other communities known for visual aesthetics, was named one of Forbes magazine’s 2011 “Prettiest Towns in America” last week!

Cedarburg was chosen using input from Frommer’s and Rough Guides travel experts, in addition to Midwest Living magazine. This is according to John Giuffo, author.  “We looked for places that offer not only aesthetic bounty, but memorable activities and destinations nearby.”  The unranked list includes such wonderful destinations as Montpelier, Vermont, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Cooperstown, New York, and Sonoma, California. Wow! What an honor, our community pride is busting at the seams!

The description in the article is as follows, it is no wonder we made this impressive list…”North of Milwaukee, Cedarburg has an attractive downtown that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s a great destination for bicycling, there is a beautiful old covered bridge, yet there’s no shortage of shopping options.”  Also quoted is Kendra Williams, travel editor of Midwest Living: “It’s particularly pretty in the fall, when the leaves change and there are a number of nice seasonal festivals.”
