Imagine being in the midst of things, as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding party rolls through the streets of London…

Late-joining spectators might have to pack a sleeping bag and brave the rain, but it’s not too late to get to jolly old England and be in the thick of it.

“If you’ve got excited about everything that you’ve been hearing, and you’ve decided that you absolutely have to be there, you’re going to have to start packing your bags now,” says Lesley Keyter, with Calgary-based Travel Lady Agency.

She adds Calgarians would have to shell out some $1,300 to get a flight to London’s Heathrow airport, and they might have to sleep outside as most of the hotels are booked.

But Keyter says that’s not such a bad thing because visitors will want to camp out along the royal wedding route to catch a glimpse of the bride and groom.

“Those prime spots to be right in the front row, I have no doubt, are probably gone already, but to be in the third or fourth row would be quite the thing,” she adds.

There will be a lot of entertainment for those along the route, with vendors and buskers lining the streets.

The royal wedding route is quite long, spanning from Buckinham Palace, past Big Ben and Parliament Square to the doors of Westminster Abbey.

Fairy tales have taken some beatings, but they never disappear.

“The beautiful princess and handsome prince heading off into the happily ever after is almost imprinted in our DNA,” says author Michael Farquhar.

“There’s an endless, bottomless fascination with royalty. In Britain, it’s an enduring institution. Celebrities come and go, royalty is here to stay.”

Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles showed the public just how false a fairy tale could be.

But now their son William – second in line to the throne – is set to marry longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton, all is forgotten.

On Friday, the next royal spectacle occurs.

Anglophiles everywhere will watch England’s future king marry his college sweetheart at Westminster Abbey.

For months now, the guest list has kept people guessing.

In keeping with tradition, William and Kate have invited select exes to their big day.

“Since the male members of the Royal Family generally make a point of bedding as many high-born beauties as possible before making the inevitable march to the altar, the pews are generally filled with heartbroken young female aristocrats who, to put it bluntly, didn’t make the cut,” notes Christopher Andersen, author of William and Kate: A Royal Love Story.

“Camilla was front and centre at Charles’s wedding to Diana, after all, as were at least a dozen or more of Charles’s exes.”

In addition to girl-and boyfriends past, William and Kate’s guest list includes celebrities, heads of state, family and close friends.

The friends who’ve been invited have remained discreet, never broken their silence about the couple, and as a result have been rewarded with an invitation, Andersen says.

“These are the friends they can count on to keep royal secrets.”

Here’s a look at a handful of high-profile people who’ll be there on the big day:

The spare: Now that the heir is off the marriage market, the spare is the most eligible bachelor in England. Prince Harry, 26, was kind enough to make his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring available to older brother Wills, who in turn gave it to Kate when they made things official. Nice. That’s just one reason why Harry is best man.

William and Harry were close before Diana’s death and even closer after, Andersen says. “There is no question that, next to Kate, Harry is the most important person in William’s life. No one else knows what they’ve endured over the years. Harry has also come to regard Kate as the sister he never had. Poignant, really, because Diana desperately wanted a daughter but of course never lived to have one.”

With a full head of hair and a face from both parents, Harry cuts a more rakish figure than his elder brother. Perhaps it’s easier to be funloving when you don’t have the burden of becoming king hanging over your royal head.

The kid sister: Philippa Middleton is Kate’s lookalike sib and maid of honour for the big day. Known as Pippa, the 27-year-old shares her sister’s long, dark hair and clean smile. Pippa is a party organizer who likes to attend parties: in 2008, Tattler Magazine named her “the No. 1 Society Singleton.” She has had lots of boyfriends and may have a new flock of suitors after the world watches her attend to her sister.

Kate’s parents: Carole and Michael Middleton were born into Britain’s middle class. Long before the phrase “flight attendant” became de rigueur, she was a stewardess and he was a steward and flight dispatcher for British Airways. The couple has three kids; their eldest, Catherine Elizabeth (a.k.a. “Kate”) will be marrying up, as they say, on Friday. The Middletons run a mail-order company called Party Pieces from a warehouse near their home in the village of Bucklebury, Berkshire.

The Beckhams: Becks and Posh are royalty in their respective worlds. Why’d they get an invite? “David Beckham met William at the World Cup in Africa and they have been friends ever since,” Andersen notes. “Victoria is along for the ride.” The Beckhams have been house-hunting in England in anticipation of Baby Beckham’s birth. Apparently, even famous people want to be near mum and dad when a baby’s coming.

Mr. Bean: Actor-comedian Rowan Atkinson has been goofing off for decades, from history-hopping stints in The Black Adder (later Blackadder) series to his wildly popular TV show, Mr. Bean, which spawned films and a cartoon. Mr. Bean is silly in a British way, with Atkinson emerging as a gangly collision between mime, clown and cut-up. He’s a British treasure the same way that Jerry Lewis is an American treasure.

The X-factor: No hard feelings? There must be a few for Jecca Craig and Arabella Musgrave, who were serious love interests of Prince William. When the guy who got away is the man who would be king … that’s gotta hurt. “The reason these young women were invited . is that they have kept their mouths shut,” Andersen says. By Andersen’s count, William has invited at least seven of his exes. Kate has invited two.

Music royalty: Just a few weeks ago, Sir Elton John was “sweating it out, convinced that he had not been invited,” Andersen says. “However, the treasured ‘Golden Ticket’ to the wedding breakfast being hosted at Buckingham Palace by the Queen finally came through for both Elton and his partner David Furnish.

“Elton is one of the very few friends of Diana’s who are invited to the wedding,” Andersen notes.

The prime minister: David Cameron is the guy who really runs Britain, and he does it without a crown, a palace or a horse-drawn carriage.

Madonna’s ex: Filmmaker Guy Ritchie – the guy behind Sherlock Holmes is a distant (like, sixth) cousin of Kate Middleton.

The Virgin heiress: Holly Branson, daughter of Richard Branson, is a party girl with a brain. The 30-year-old is a pal of William and Kate, often accompanying them to clubs in London.

Random royals: Look for the kings of Tonga, Thailand, Jordan, Malaysia, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia; sultans of Oman and Brunei; the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and the emperor of Japan.

Prince William and Kate Middleton attended their final wedding rehearsal at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday as the armed forces, media organizations and spectators prepared for the couple’s big day.

Roads in central London around Buckingham Palace and along the route of Friday’s marriage procession from the abbey were closed from early morning as about 1,000 members of the military held a full-scale royal wedding rehearsal.

Carriages that will carry members of the wedding party also took part alongside mounted cavalry.

William and Middleton arrived in a fleet of vehicles that swept into the abbey grounds for their rehearsal on Wednesday evening.

They were accompanied at the run-through by William’s brother and best man Prince Harry, the Middleton family and senior clergy, a spokesman for the couple said.

Across the capital, bunting has gone up and flags are beginning to be hoisted, with similar preparations around the country where about 5,500 street parties will be held.

A small army of media from around the world has descended on makeshift studios set up outside Buckingham Palace and along the route to cover the ceremony that one British minister predicted would attract a global TV audience of some 2 billion people.

“America and the world is really excited about a piece of great news,” said Linda Bell Blue, executive producer of U.S. entertainment news programme Entertainment Tonight, who is heading up a team of 70 staff for the wedding.

“It’s been a pretty rough time around the world — in the Middle East and in Japan and the world economy — and this is something to be happy about,” she told Reuters.

“Americans love a big production. This is the Oscars on steroids. Its the pageantry, the enthusiasm, it’s about what people are wearing.”
Some royal fans have already begun camping outside the abbey to secure the best spots to watch Friday’s events, and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to start arriving in London

VisitBritain, the national tourism agency, is predicting an extra 600,000 tourists in the capital on the day, meaning there would be a total of some 1.1 million visitors with 40 percent of those coming from abroad.

“That could bring anything up to 50 million pounds ($83 million),” a spokesman said, adding the number of in-bound flights to Britain for the weekend had risen by 244 percent.

London and Partners, the agency which promotes the city, said it expected there would be 600,000 people actually lining the streets, the same number as came to watch the 1981 wedding of William’s parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has said the occasion would be a boon to a nation coping with government austerity measures which have resulted in drastic spending cuts and job losses.

“People across the country, and indeed across the world, are getting excited about the events on Friday,” Cameron told parliament.
Archbishop of York John Sentamu, the second most senior cleric in the Church of England, echoed those sentiments.

“This event I hope will give a lot of hope to a lot of people, particularly young people,” he said in a TV interview published on his website.
Those who do go to London to watch the procession or camp out could be in for a cold and wet experience, with weather forecasters predicting showers and a brisk wind.

On Tuesday, police appealed to the public to help them spot any potential troublemakers, while promising that they would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the event.

Some 5,000 police officers will be on duty to deal with potential threats ranging from international Islamist militants to anarchists and stalkers.
Meanwhile the one-and-a-half mile processional route has undergone a deep clean to get it looking spic and span.

A team of 130 street cleaners including 80 sweepers along with 30 vehicles are being lined up to deal with the 140 tonnes of waste expected to be left by those watching the royal wedding on Friday.

Streets in London were sealed off early in the morning on April 27th so that hundreds of troops from the city’s Wellington and Hyde Park Barracks could hold a full dress rehearsal for the royal wedding along the procession route.

The royal wedding dress rehearsal took place in the wee hours this morning and featured more than 1,000 soldiers, horses, carriages, chaffeured Bentley and RAF flyover.

Participants wore full military dress, but marching bands refrained from playing their instruments as the whole exercise was complete before 6.30am.

The eyes of the world will be on Prince William and Kate Middleton when they begin their journeys to and from Westminster Abbey.

So nothing was left to chance with the dry run in which timings were tested to the second and all armed forces taking part got the chance to practise their role in their service uniforms.

The day began very early – about 2am for those involved.

The bride and groom didn’t attend the dress rehearsal, but they did use a practice Kate for the festivities.

A “pretty brunette” emerged from the exact car that will carry Kate on Friday, prompting cheers from the crowd before they realized it was just her stand in.

Naturally, her double gave no hint as to what the much anticipated wedding dress will look like. She was wearing pants and a black sweater.

The number one goal for the security guards will be to protect the future princess, while still ensuring the public can get a clear view of her.

David Cameron is to break with tradition by wearing a lounge suit when he attends the royal wedding.

Aides to the Prime Minister confirmed that he would be foregoing a formal morning suit in favour of his normal business attire.

It is expected that other politicians attending next week’s ceremony at Westminster Abbey – including Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Labour leader Ed Miliband – will make a similar choice.

In past decades it has been traditional for prime ministers to wear full morning dress – including a tail coat – when they attend royal weddings.

However, since becoming Conservative leader in 2005, the Old Etonian Mr Cameron has been careful to avoid drawing attention to his privileged background.

As a student a Oxford University, he was famously photographed in the bow tie and tails of the infamous Bullingdon Club – a dining group for ex-public schoolboys, which was renowned for its drunken excesses.

Since becoming Prime Minister he has largely avoided appearing in public in formal wear – the only exception being his annual Mansion House speech on foreign affairs when white tie and tails are considered mandatory.

She gave no more details about the winning bidder other than to say his or her user profile was Frank841950.

The winning bid, one of 33 submitted, falls short of the record $32,000 paid for an Astronaut B model Pez dispenser in 2006.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Sophie Cranston, of the low-key label Libelula was tipped as the creator of the Royal Wedding dress with input from the 29-yr old princess-to-be who has a keen interest in fashion and briefly worked for the High Street chain Jigsaw.

Kate Middleton has apparently been very hands on with respect to the design of her dress for the Royal Wedding. The gown is described as “ivory satin and lace with pearl buttons and a ‘nod’ to Lady Diana.”

The bride-to-be stepped out in one ofMiss Cranston’s vintage-inspired coats at a wedding in January, causing speculation that she might be in the running. Although Miss Cranston’s name was leaked on to the internet yesterday, St James’s Palace refused to enter into any speculation in the matter.

Apparantly as soon as the Royal engagement was announced Kate took it upon herself to start creating her dream gown before she went to an established dressmaker to put her ideas into practice.

According to one impeccably-placed source, Kate Middleton has taken inspiration from her History of Art degree – particularly the Renaissance period, as she studied in Florence during her gap year.

Miss Cranston, 34, won the Designer of Year award at London’s Graduate Fashion Week in 1999 and has already worked for Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley. She founded her own label, which means dragonfly in Spanish, in 2002 and offers a bespoke bridal collection.

Working out of a small studio in south London, she has already dressed stars including Emma Watson and Jerry Hall. The gown in question is under lock and key at Clarence House. The Mail has been told it is ivory satin and lace, with a pearl button detail and a 10ft train.

Although he has been kept in the dark about the gown, William has agreed with Kate that she can auction it for charity after the big royal wedding day, with the proceeds going to a range of charities including the Prince’s Trust.

Friends have also revealed that Kate plans to wear diamond-and- pearl earrings on the day, although it is not known if they are new or family heirlooms. She will borrow other pieces of jewellery from the Queen for the royal wedding, including, it is believed, a dazzling tiara.
Canada Post has printed a whopping SIXTEEN-MILLION of these special stamps. Interestingly, this is the first time the postal service has printed commemorative stamps for a royal wedding since Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Phillip way back in 1948.

Which design do you like best?

Talentless washed up “comedian” and “actor” Jerry Seinfeld has weighed in on the upcoming nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton, calling the wedding ‘a circus act’.

The “comedian”, desperately trying to promote his unfunny stand-up show on June 3 somewhere in London, will undoubtedly cause controversy with his comments, which he made during an interview for ITV breakfast show Daybreak.

Asked if he, like many Americans, was looking forward to April 29, the 56-year-old cretin replied sarcastically: ‘Yes, I’m very excited. Well it’s a circus act, it’s an absurd act.

‘You know, it’s a dress-up. It’s a classic English thing of let’s play dress-up. Let’s pretend that these are special people. OK, we’ll all pretend that – that’s what theatre is,’ he continued, trying vainly to stir up controversy in the hope of selling a few tickets to his stand up show.

‘That’s why the British have the greatest theatre in the world. They love to dress up and they love to play pretend.

‘And that’s what the Royal Family is – it’s a huge game of pretend. These aren’t special people – it’s fake outfits, fake phoney hats and gowns.’

Seinfeld added: ‘It’s fantastic. We don’t have anything like that.’

After watching the interview, which was filmed in New York, Daybreak hosts Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles appeared taken aback, Bleakley joking, ‘How dare he!’

Chiles appeared very offended by Seinfeld’s opinion: ‘I’ll join in on any of that stuff, if it’s a Brit doing it. But I can’t bear Americans criticising the Royal family. It turns me into a Royalist!’

He added: ‘He’ll be doing that show from the Tower of London, never mind the O2.’

If the former “actor” is that bothered about the British monarchy, he can always just stay in his beloved America, where everything is just so peachy right now.

One thing’s for sure – the royal wedding will attract more viewers in one day than all of Seinfeld’s unfunny so-called comedy show episodes put together.

That is, of course, if the royal family actually turn out to be ‘real’ and not ‘make believe’ figments of our imagination after all.

Once it was the shroud of Turin that monopolized popular attention, and more recently the likeness of Jesus on a grilled cheese, but now just a mere days away from the Royal Wedding a British couple claim to have discovered the face of Will’s bride-to-be, Kate Middleton on a mango-flavored jellybean.

Wesley Hosie, 25, and Jessica White, 24, found the special snack inside a 1.5-pound jar of candies from The Jelly Bean Factory. But, as often happens with food items featuring holy apparitions, the treat will be up offered up for sale on eBay with the bidding starting at $800.
