The battle continues until the participants of the other districts are dead. In the future, namely North America divided into twelve hostile districts, which must be represented.

When Prim Everdeen through a lottery is chosen, sister Katniss takes her place. They must choose between love and death.

The Hunger Games is the filming of the first part of the trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

HBO gives us a first look behind the scenes of Luck, their latest TV series.

Luck is a prestigious new TV series from HBO. The series takes place on and around a racetrack in California, a place where you horsemen, gamblers, Mafia bosses and beautiful ladies to find. The series was created by Deadwood creator David Milch and directed by Michael Mann. She spoke in the movie below which gives us a glimpse behind the scenes of Luck.

Besides an impressive crew, the series also features a remarkable cast. Two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman plays the main character, crime boss Chester Bernstein, and is supported by names like Nick Nolte (Cape Fear), Dennis Farina (Snatch.), Richard Kind (A Serious Man), John Ortiz (Miami Vice) Ritchie Coster (The Dark Knight), Kevin Dunn (Transformers) and Michael Gambon (The Good Shepherd).

Luck is in the United States first broadcast in September 2011. It is not yet known whether the series will be broadcast in the Netherlands.

Google To Launch Android TV In May

Hi:) Many people are getting excited about the new 'Google TV' platform created by Google with partners Sony and Intel. And soon it will be shown to an expectant world when Google show its new Android-based TV software at its Google I/O developers conference in May, so reports the WSJ. From making my first film, The Cove, to winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary, the past year has been a dream. I often joke that film is a "weapon of mass construction," and in order to construct a film and have it seen, a filmmaker needs many allies. For The Cove, Sundance has been the best ally possible.

The film tells the story of secret dolphin killings conducted off a coast of Japan and the mercury dangers that residents face from eating the animals. At the beginning of our journey, our grandest ambition was that the film would inspire a small legion of activists. But everything changed the moment The Cove was accepted into the 2009 Sundance Film Festival: our story was a given a voice.

'American Idol' Denver Auditions Turn Up Scarce Talent, 'Bikini Boy'

Hi:) One week after uncovering a Texas-size amount of talent in Dallas, "American Idol" headed north to Denver on Tuesday night (February 2), looking to find more of the same (only, you know, Colorado-size). It seemed like a pretty safe bet; after all — this is where season-seven champion David Cook auditioned — but, for the most part, the only thing Mile High in Denver was the mediocrity.

While there were some pretty great voices on display, Denver will probably best be remembered for a whole lot of auditioners with sad stories to tell (childhoods spent on the lam, tragic accidents, etc.), and the very last wannabe of the show: a guy in a bikini named, appropriately enough, "Bikini Boy."

But let's get to the good stuff first. Victoria Beckham was back behind the judges' table again (she also served as a guest judge in Boston), and right off the bat, we got a genuine taste of talent, in the form of 28-year-old Mark Labriola, who wowed the panel with a sandpapery version of Squeeze's "Tempted."

He was followed by the bubbly Kimberly Kerbow, who got through to Hollywood with a take on Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am" (and despite the fact that she sang a lyric about needing Rogaine directly at Simon), and Danelle Hayes, a down-on-her-luck karaoke hostess who earned high praise for a booming rendition of Melissa Etheridge's "I'm the Only One" ("That was the most moving audition," Kara raved. "I love that you wear your heart on your sleeve").

That was followed by the usual montage of assorted goofballs — a woman dressed in an electric-blue mariachi outfit, a tiara-clad glamazon, a hot dog and a winged gargoyle, to name just a few — and then we entered the "questionably talented" portion of the night's show, headlined by Casey James, a good-looking kid who survived a motorcycle accident ("The doctor said I'd never play guitar again," he told producers). James' audition — a flat-voiced take on John Mayer's "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" — was nothing special, but Kara and Beckham liked his look (they made him take down his hair and remove his shirt, BTW), and he got through, despite Simon's objections.

And then there was 16-year-old Tori Kelly, who didn't impress much with her version of Mayer's "Gravity" but made it to Hollywood based largely on her outfit ("You're like a human orange," Simon hissed). And with that, day one in Denver came to a close.

Day two opened with some more oddballs, one of whom inspired Simon to declare, "I think you just killed every cat in Denver" (one good thing about Tuesday's show: Simon really got to show off some killer one-liners). And then, finally, the first real breakout star of the auditions emerged: Nicci Nix, who spoke like she had just inhaled helium but unveiled a breezy, jazzy voice on her rendition of Girls Aloud's "Something Kinda Ooooh."

Nix was followed by 16-year-old Haeley Vaughn, who dreamed of being "the first black, pop-country-kinda-mainstream singer" in "Idol" history. She took on Carrie Underwood's "Last Name" and, with her brassy voice, easily made it through to Hollywood.

And that, unfortunately, brought us to the likely star of Wednesday's online-search trends, a guy named Ty Hemmerling, who, in an apparent attempt to make it to Hollywood like last year's "Bikini Girl," donned a striped two-piece and attempted to sing Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart." He didn't even get to belt out two lines of the tune before the judges stood up and walked out on him, but not before Randy dubbed him "Bikini Boy." And a brief, shining star was born.

ABC PICKS UP NEW SHOWS

ABC on Wednesday picked up two more hourlong pilots, Cutthroat and Generation Y. It also finalized the pilot order for legal drama The Whole Truth, from producer Jerry Bruckheimer.The pickups follow a busy Tuesday for ABC, which marked three pilots -- two dramas and a comedy -- getting green lights from the network.

The $57 million does not include donations by corporations, large private donors and iTunes sales figures (where proceeds from the album will got to relief efforts), all of which are still being calculated.

Sundance: What Remains

Hi:) Back home after covering the second half of Sundance 2010, there are a few films that I haven’t addressed until now because, well, they required more consideration (and, regarding ODDSAC, serious decompression).

Bass Ackwards: The feature debut from Linas Phillips, who created a small indie stir several years ago with the documentary Walking to Werner, has received attention because a) it was executive produced by Mark Duplass (one of four Duplass-y projects at the festival) and b) it was one of several films made available for rent on YouTube in conjunction with Sundance 2010. In terms of indie-film distribution, bypassing the studio system is all the rage. Even Hollywood seems enamored by newer services like video-on-demand and companies such as New American Vision, which connects niche films with their audiences.

Fans of the Duplass Bros. work and other filmmakers in the so-called mumblecore genre (Andrew Bujalski, Joe Swanberg, Greta Gerwig, and others) should be engaged by Bass Ackwards, in which Linas Phillips stars as … Linas, a mid-30s guy meandering through life in Seattle who finds much-needed focus at the conclusion of his cross-country van trip. Despite a series of proverbial bumps in the road, he leaves behind an ill-advised affair, a series of odd jobs (wedding videographer, alpaca-farm assistant), and nights spent crashing at a friend’s house. Events that sustain him while on the road include running out of gas, getting drunk and simultaneously trying to get laid, and placing phone calls to his (real-life) dad.

The film’s most appealing expression is how Linas is influenced by the people he encounters; namely, Paul (Paul Lazar), a grieving, civic-minded gas-station attendant and Jim (co-writer Jim Fletcher) a slightly older man as equally adrift as Linas. Quiet moments with these men do wonders for Linas’s delayed manhood; by the time the end credits roll, Linas looks less like Joshua Leonard’s character from Humpday and more like a guy ready for his next act in life.

I’ve seen a handful of films like Bass Ackwards over the last few years. At best I’ve found these types of stories pleasant, honest, and for the most part, unassuming. Typically, they’re as male-centric as Judd Apatow’s films with more subtle humor yet similar dramatic resolutions — the dudes tend to mature into well-intentioned adults. Personally, I feel as though you have to identify with a character such as Linas to truly connect with a film like Bass Ackwards; otherwise, watching such a journey out of delayed manhood can be quite an undertaking.

Contracorriente: This Peruvian drama from director Javier Fuentes-Leon earned the World Cinema category’s audience award. It left me feeling at odds. The story is centered on a fisherman engaged in an affair with another man, unbeknownst to his pregnant wife and, for a while, everyone else in his village. After an hour-plus of beautifully shot scenes full of man-for-man longing, Miguel (Cristian Mercado) ultimately rejects blue-eyed painter Santiago (Manolo Cardona) and tries in vain to return to Mariela (Tatiana Astengo) and their about-to-be-born son. By the time Miguel has been outed by some local gossip, he’s already grieving not just Santiago’s sudden death/suicide, but the fact that his soul is not at rest. In other words, he’s dealing with one life coming into being and another who met a tragic end.

As the drama unfurled, I kept wondering if the story was an adaptation since the amount of metaphor and symbolism felt pulled in from elsewhere and made to fit around every scene. (It’s Fuentes-Leon’s original screenplay.) All the sandy love-making, misty eyes, and candle-giving was straight up Harlequin to me; more so, it overemphasized an already high-stakes affair. The locations were so romantic, so thoroughly pristine, they spoke directly to the theme of a tightly knit community and its sense of tradition in contrast with Miguel’s divided nature. Folding in the ghost story gave the drama some mystery, but there was little finesse to Santiago’s appearances after we learned he was waiting for Miguel to make the decision to be with him or remain in his real-world life.

What I can’t quite resolve is a statement made by Fuentes-Leon in the film’s press notes. Paraphrasing the filmmaker, he indicates an important aspect of his story is the power that can come from facing our own internal prejudices despite social conventions and the false expectations we tend to set for ourselves. But here it really is an external pressure that forces Miguel to make the difficult, noble decision to confront his own sexuality, which is to confront everything and everyone around him. The man was already haunted by his deceased lover, and I assert this alone should have been Miguel’s motivation to make right by his loved ones. That he had to react against rumors about him weakened his character and Contracorriente’s intended overall theme.

Literally and figuratively, Contracorriente is not for me, but the story is important and the film itself is well composed, and I can see it playing well with festival and general audiences. It will register with people who feel the need to closet their orientation due to external or internal pressures. But we have seen this kind of story in this genre again and again from around the world; in keeping with Sundance’s central theme this year, I don’t think there’s anything rebellious about this work. It’s well done and it falls in line with all the similar stories that have come before it.

ODDSAC: As a band, Animal Collective can be as harsh as they are cuddly, moving from periods of harmonic beauty to gnashing, enduring noise. And their drum programming always makes my chest feel tight in the only good way that can occur. Music writers spill over their legacy, but a quick way of framing their sound and appeal is to say their core members are two sets of childhood friends, and LSD was introduced in early life for most (all?) of them. So you can imagine what this might look like on film.

Danny Perez shot and edited ODDSAC over the last three years. He’s behind some of the band’s videos and, since ODDSAC was created as a visual album, Perez’s bond with the musicians and their sound makes for a huge step forward in statement from the entire group. Narrative is essentially non-existent, but we get a sense of their love for horror films (bandmember Josh Dibb appears as a vampire who feasts on a campfire family before burning into ash), but mostly this is a case of music and visuals influencing one another without a narrative purpose.

It’s the sort of film you might watch for a few minutes in a museum if you aren’t familiar with the creators, and you might try to interpret if you’re a devoted Animal Collective fan. I got into them about two years ago after my best friend promised to disown me if I didn’t listen to their record Feels. From there I worked backward and forward through their discography until reaching a point where I’m comfortable saying they’re the most progressive “discovered” band this country has to offer. And the fact that this work represents their decision to move beyond accessible music (consider this a relative term here) has me thinking in weird little stories influenced by ODDSAC’s imagery.

The Zo: This hand-animated short played before ODDSAC. First-time filmmaker Glenda Wharton assembled some 5,000 drawings into a skittering nightmare based on her experiences with domestic violence. Ms. Wharton indicated she thinks her work pairs well with ODDSAC, and I think Animal Collective ought to consider The Zo to be ODDSAC’s opening act when they push the film out to their audience later this year.

Oscars 2010: Documentary Nominees at the Library

Hi:) You want to pick the Oscar winners with your film-buff pals, but you haven't seen all the documentary features. Solution: SLC Film Center screenings the week of Feb. 22.

While nominees Food Inc., Burma VJ and The Cove all got local theatrical showings, a couple of other titles on the just-announced list -- The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers and Which Way Home -- probably aren't ringing any bells. But the SLC Film Center, coincidentally, has both films on its schedule of screenings at the downtown Main Library a couple of weeks before the Oscars broadcast. On Monday, Feb. 22, you can catch up with Which Way Home; then, on Thursday the 25th, see The Most Dangerous Man in America. And you'll be all ready to pick with confidence.

DVD Roundup - New from Nick!

Hi:) When the show premiered in 2005, Go, Diego, Go! was in instant hit. I guess it helps to be Dora's cousin! Like Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego Go! is infused with Spanish words. Also, each episode teaches kids about different animals and their habitats, often giving information about the animals' diet, survival traits, or other important characteristics. This week, the new DVD Go, Diego, Go!: Lion Cub Rescue is available, featuring 4 episodes from the series:

SpongeBob recently celebrated his 10th anniversary and remains a HUGE hit among kids, and many adults. This new release features 8 episodes of the show, including the episode "Dear Vikings." Vikings + SpongeBob is a random and, I have to admit, a kind of funny pairing. Did you know that vikings discovered ketchup? SpongeBob learns all about the vikings when they answer his heartfelt letter requesting that they come and educate him about their ways, only their barbaric habits could put the famous sponge in danger.
