OMEGA devoted their "The Legend" to the Legend of Formula One!

Michael Schumacher, a 7-time Formula One champion, has been OMEGA’s brand ambassador for a long time. And it’s no wonder that they decided to devote their new Co-Axial Chronograph to this famous driver of the racing sport.

‘The Legend’ is a great-looking wristwatch with its 44.25 stainless steel case which has anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both sides.
On its black aluminium bezel you can see a list of Schumacher’s greatest racing achievements, as well as his 91 victories.
Maybe they will have to find some place for listing a Moto GP win of the best driver of the world, who is going to take part in the next motorcycle race, in spite of both the fail and his age. Great news for Bond and Omega watches fans! Omega just announced that they will be producing a limited edition Planet Ocean watch for the new Bond movie - The Quantum of Solace. This great collectors item will be available from October time.
Presumably that 5,007 will be produced worldwide and this is a must-have item for any serious Bond collector

Next to the plastic pocket protector, there is probably no better-known artifact of the nerd than the Casio G-Shock watch. But the chunky digital watch, created in 1983, has become a fashion item on the wrists of those who aren’t necessarily technologically inclined.

To celebrate the brand’s longevity, Casio has created a number of multifunction watches, some with analog faces. They include the solar-powered, water-resistant MTG-1000, a stopwatch that tells time in 27 cities and features what Casio calls “multiband atomic timekeeping.” It is available from Casio at http://www.gshock.com.

Casio continues to engineer watches the way it has for a quarter-century, adding features and rarely removing any. One thing remains constant, though: programming the $400 watch by pushing its four buttons in a precise order is the true test of whether you are smart enough to wear it. For those who give up, leave the radio-controlled watch on a windowsill anywhere in the United States (or in Japan and most of Western Europe), and the next morning it will tell the correct time.

New watch model: Sinn 6030 - German chronograph

The German watchmaking company, Sinn, with headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, has developed a chronograph that is mechanically wound. The case of the watch is quite small, having 34.5mm size. It is made by the same standards as the famous series entitled 6000 Frankfurt Finance.The watch, dubbed Sinn 6030, includes an internationally rotating bezel, which can be used to set the indication of a second time zone. This is available through a crown found at 10.

The heart of the timepiece is the ETA 2094 movement, which is the smallest chronograph movement, currently in the process of production, that is wound automatically. The Sinn 6030 modular chronograph movement is accurately refined with Côtes de Genève, perlage, as well as blued screws.

The timepiece includes a case made of polished stainless steel, a deep matte black dial featuring silver markers that are plated in rhodium, as well as white luminous hands and both sides of the watch are covered with antireflective sapphire crystal. The watch is available in two types, one having a bracelet made of polished stainless steel and the other one having a black leather strap.

The timepiece is water resistant of up to 100 meters.

35 exceptional timepieces raise € 2,756,500 at auction

Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Only Watch 07 charity auction of 35 unique timepieces, first in series or prototypes raised the exceptional sum of € 2,756,500/ USD 3'878'946,/ CHF 4'553'186. All proceeds from this sale, organized by Antiquorum, will help fund important medical Research on Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

Luc Pettavino, President of the Monaco Yacht Show and founder of the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy said:

” Sometimes talent comes from really wanting something. Only Watch has proven this to be true. Everyone who was involved in Only Watch 07 wanted to be a part of its unique energy and excitement. Representing the official timekeeper and the official watch of MotoGP, Tissot has come up with a really unconventional way of broadening awareness about the brand's timepieces and increasing the sales - it started selling watches at MotoGP racetracks. The Tissot watches were displayed in a specially designed, portable shop.

The brand has long focused its attention upon the Motorcycle world. It has introduced the special T-Race watches, the MotoGP limited editions timepieces and the specially designed helmets.

The shops received a lot of visitors looking for MotoGP Tissot watches, and not only the regular clients in Barcelona but also new ones, including people coming to the MotoGP from other regions of Spain and all parts of Europe.

Tissot motorcycle-racing themed products, available for an average price of 550 Euro, are quite expensive for the average MotoGP. However, all the efforts of the brand and the retailer finally paid off as the sales were doubled in comparison to the previous tracks, with 50 pieces sold for a total of about 25,000 Euro.

Tissot is going to present the MotoGP concept at the three races this year to be held in Spain, two in Italy, as well as on each in the USA, Netherlands, UK, and Germany. In 2008, the brand wants to reveal a larger concept in MotoGP and NASCAR in the USA.

Innovation 1- Barrel on ball bearings.
A 96 balls, non lubricated ball bearing guides the barrel both vertically and laterally. This solution is on the market since 2005.

Innovation 5 - The reinforced silicium bridge.

Innovation 6 - Exploiting the elasticity of silicium.
Ulysse Nardin developed the revolutionary shock absorber bearing into the balance wheel shaft which pivots in the centre of the silicium disc. The elastic spiral shaped silicium disc deforms itself when shocks arise and returns to its original position immediately after the shock has been absorbed.

Carl F.Bucherer - chronograph

After over 2 years of development, the Patravi Chronograde by Carl F.Bucherer is a world first with 6 useful functions and a retrograde hour display for the chronograph. Functions include a chronograph, flyback function, large date, annual calendar, power reserve indication and retrograde hours totalizator.

The most important function of this wristwatch is the chronograph with its retrograde hours indicator. After each rotation of the central chronograph hand, the minute totalizator at 9 o'clock moves along one more graduation mark. This is in turn connected via an imposing gearing mechansim to the hours counter between 7 and 8 o'clock, completing its own rotations. The corresponding hand moves downwards through a semi-circular scale. When the hours counter reaches the end of its scale, it shoots instantly back to its starting position, in order to start its journey again from this position.

This is a function which should appeal to people in highly demanding positions with little time at their disposal. Pilots in the cockpit, for example, when they are in the landing queue and have to fly round in standard loops. Its takes them too long to stop the chrono each time and, before each new circuit, re-zero and start the chronograph again from scratch. One press on the push-piece is enough to restart the chronograph directly, without an intermediate stopping operation.

Additional features are: a large date display and a highly complex calendar which takes into account the variable months with 30 or 31 days. Only at the end of February will an adjustment by the owner be required with the crown, which resets it completely for the next year.

The overall appearance of the watch is decidedly masculine. The high-grade steel case is 44mm in diameter, water resistant to 50 metres and the bracelet is available in leather or robust high-grade steel.

TAG Heuer Grand Carrera

Here is an image one of the watches from the new TAG Heuer Grand Carrera line. There are three different versions: the Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RS, Grand Carrera Calibre 8 RS Grand Date GMT, and the model shown here the Grand Carrera Chronograph Calibre 17 RS. This COSC-certified chronograph features a 43 mm dial, screw-in crown, screw-in chronograph pushbuttons and hand-applied date window at 6 o'clock. The dial is equipped with two rotating systems with Cotes de Geneve treatments and diamond polished facets: seconds at 3 o'clock; chronograph minute at 9 o'clock. It is available with a black or silver dial on a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap for $4,495. If I had to buy a TAG Heuer right now this chrono would definitely be on my short list.

The wrist watch is a small sized portable timepiece that is able to display time and in some cases, the day, date as well as month and year. The wrist watch is in fact a comparatively new invention. Originally the first portable time pieces were designed to be kept in the pocket, hence the name “pocket watches” . The first wrist watch was the invention of a person named Patek Philippe who invented it around the end of the nineteenth century and it was then thought of as being a women’s accessory.

It was not until the beginning of the twentieth centaury that the first mens wrist watches began to appear. This was when Alberto Santos Dumont asked his friend Louis Cartier for a watch that could be easily used and the latter responded by giving him a leather-band wrist watch that the gents wrist watch first made an appearance in the beginning of the twentieth century. The benefit of wearing a watch on the wrist was first noticed by men who wore it in this way during World War I who did not need to fumble in their pockets to check what time it was and could merely glance at their wrist watch to ascertain the time. As a consequence, even today most Westerners wear their watches on the wrist, a direct consequence of World War I.

Nowadays wristwatches are available either purely as a time piece and good quality wristwatches are available for less than $100 or you can pay many thousands for a top quality Rolex or Cartier watch which are as much an item of jewellery as a timepiece.

Rolex GMT ICE - The most expensive Rolex ever!

Basle 2007 was by any standards amazing but for Rolex it was even more momentous.

Launching a new product can be a nervous time for most watch companies but when your new watch retails for £255,000 then it has to be good. The new Rolex GMT Ice was only shown to authorised agents calling onto the stand and was not on display for members of the public visiting the show and because of this, there has been little seen of this new show-stopping watch. As yet, the watch is not even shown on the Rolex website!

Made from Platinum and carrying a huge 25 cts of diamonds around the case, bracelet and dial the GMT Ice is the most expensive Rolex to date. During the course of the next few weeks, we hope to have some further information and images to display but in the meantime, most of us can only dream....

We are expecting the first deliveries of this awesome timepiece in October/November and I am sure that it will be seen on his wrist in a copy of OK! magazine soon afterwards.
