Hey guys, sorry for the long wait, had to finish up the squash season and gets jobs and other stuff worked out. Lucky for you I came across some great stuff during that time that I will be throwing up as I get more and more time.

Tristan Gartner is a french DJ and producer known for mash-ups and bootlegs as well as a few original house tracks of his own. If you've been a few large electronic concerts or festivals, you will have heard one of his tracks. He just re-uploaded a set he did in Paris with better quality.

✖ Tristan Garner @ Xtra Life #3 Queen Paris ✖ by Tristan GARNER

Wolfgang Gartner just released his 3 mashups that he uses live and in mixes for download on soundcloud today in his challenge to get 200,000 likes on facebook. Some very cool stuff in this package from one of America's best EDM artists.

Deadmau5 frequently throws up samples and tracks he does on soundcloud under his moniker fuckmylife. As of when im writing this post, its been up for 16 hours and has 102,000 views. This is the true Mau5, and sounds a lot like Strobe with a very cool sample. I can't wait for the finished product.

Skrillex - Bangarang (new EP)

2011-12-24T11:28:00.000-05:00

Skrillex released his new album we've all be waiting for yesterday, and he did not disappoint. This album is reminiscent of classic rock albums like Dark Side of the Moon. It's got a flow to it that lets it sound like one track instead of separate projects spliced together onto a cd. So far, I'd have to say my favorites are Breakin' a Sweat (ft the Doors), Kyoto, the Devil's Den (feat. Wolfgang Gartner), and Bangarang (ft. Sirah).

FUCK FINALS NUFF SAID

2011-12-11T11:53:00.006-05:00

Sup Studious Haterz.

So I first must say that I feel bad for everyone who has finals this week. I have finals this week, but I am currently attending the shittiest community college in the world (for one more week thank jesus) so finals are a joke. I have literally, LITERALLY spent more time constructing my study playlist than I have reading a book, or studying notes. Thought I'd share to help you all get through this week.

The Roots-Redford (For Yia-Yia & Pappou)-off their new album, this is a Sufjan Stevens cover

Amiina- Rugla-Found this group on iTunes. Very similar to Sigur Ros, and their from Iceland as well.

Patty Griffin- Mary-this is the song from Sons of Anarchy when Gemma tells Clay and Jax she got raped

Xavier Rudd-Come Let Go- blogged this song a few days ago but def good for studying.

The National- I Need My Girl-Cannot find the album version of this track. Still sick, National kills it always.

Patrick Cassidy-Funeral March-From the film "The Tree of Life" one of the best ever made.

Audrau Mae Ft. The Forest People-Forever Young- Another Sons OA track.

Sigur Ros-Untitled Track (Vaka)-Hauntingly beautiful song. Watch the music video.

Best For Last

The Cinematic Orchestra-That Home

BONUS

John Lennon-So this is Christmas -This is the song where in the beginning you can hear someone whispering about killing John Lennon

Saturday Spotlight: Xavier Rudd

2011-12-03T13:12:00.000-05:00

Sup Gang

I saw Xavier Rudd open up for DMB a couple years ago and I was immediately a fan. His sound is so damn original, somewhere in between Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper. The first song I ever had in my library was a song called "Jack". At the time it was his top song in the iTunes store but since them he has had several more hits.

Xavier Rudd- Come Let Be 9.0/10

Xavier Rudd-Time to Smile 9.5/10

Xavier Rudd-Let Me Be 8.5/10

Xavier Rudd-Food In The Belly 8.0/10

Xavier Rudd-Jack 8.5/10

What up, been a busy week, but I've had my tunes to get me through it all. Allow me to share some of the very best with you.

N3AKO released a new track earlier this week labeled Megaloud Friends (Far Too Loud vs. Knife Party). This is incredible, not just for the drops, but for the seamless transitioning he puts in. The man's got talent for sure.

DOWNLOAD

Next up is Titanium - David Guetta ( known for amazing vocals) remixed by GREGORI KLOSMAN. Those Europeans just have a knack for electronic music. This is a completely different song in feel and sound, and it BUMPS.

DOWNLOAD

TOMMY TRASH is one of those artists thats not a household name, but for the last few years he's been producing top notch tunes, a staple of an international EDM headliner. This is no different. Superb production, this is House as it is supposed to be.

DOWNLOAD

LAIDBACK LUKE is quickly becoming one of my favorite DJ's. This new track is his remix of Chris Lake's Sundown. Contrary to the other songs in this post, this is pretty chill. Great driving song with a festival tune type drop, this one's gonna be dropping at concerts all over the place.

DOWNLOAD

PRETTY LIGHTS IS THE SHIT. Plain and simple. I already love the Blues, and he just turns this into a JAM. From project Re:Generation, here's Pretty Lights' adaptation of Wayfaring Stranger with LeAnn Rimes & Ralph Stanley). Amazing. Just watch the video, 1080 that shit.

I'VE SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST. This ones got a story behind it. Found it a few weeks ago, played it into Philly on the way to Dancegiving, almost punched out the windshield of my car I was raging so hard. This is FILTHY. LE CASTLE VANIA turns a KASKADE big room anthem into a crazy party song. This ones intense. 10/10 Get It!

Dancegiving Concert Review

2011-11-28T11:34:00.001-05:00

What's up haters. Hope you had a great thanksgiving, I know I certainly did with Dancegiving the next night. Here's my review and all the music that you need to know about. WARNING: HEAVY DUBSTEP INFLUENCE HERE.

We got to the Electric Factory at right about 9, so just in time for the second opener Michael Meyers. He killed it with a bunch of favorites like Pendulum, Avicii, Feed Me and Kaskade, a perfect opening that got everyone on their feet and pumped up for the night. And he played one of my personal favorites, a Ken Loi mash-up thats a mix of trance and hard hitting house. Great Performance.
All You (anger dimas remix) - Kaskade
Blessed (Avicii edit) - Tom Hangs feat/ Shermanology
U & I Rebound ( Ken Loi mashup) - Arty, Mat Zo vs. GTA feat Zashanel

Next up was David Solano as the final opening act. Theres no other way to say this...he murdered his set. I was going nuts along with every person in that hall. Crashing bass, thumping beats and sick hooks just murdering his hour set. The highlight was definitely bringing in Linkin Park's In The End with a massive dubstep drop. AWESOME.
DJ Kryptos - In The End (Dubstep Remix) - Think this but even harder and more womps.
Then right at the end of his set, I heard something really familiar. At the time I thought it was Armin, but oh no my friends, it was better ( I'm sorry Armin, ur still the best). It was Tomahawk by BT & Adam K.
Tomahawk - BT and Adam K GET THIS!!!!!

And so the openers concluded their sets and it was time for the main event. Amid the screaming, yelling and raging, a guy 19 years old walks onto stage; there he is, Porter Robinson. I came into this event thinking Wolfgang was far and away the best act, but damn was I wrong. Absolutely stunning show. Combinations I never thought of leading to one hell of a dance party. Going from Avicii's Levels right into Raise Your Weapon (Madeon remix) dropping with Say My Name by Porter. Just straight Wild.
Levels - Avicii
Raise Your Weapon (madeon remix) - Deadmau5
Say My Name - Porter Robinson

And then came the main event. Wolfgang Gartner himself. Opening up with an absolute classic, Flash by Queen, from that moment we knew that this was gonna be an event. He proceeded to thrash the dance floor with all the hits from his new album flushed in between dance anthems, thumping dutch house and some good ole fashioned house to keep you going. Highlights were definitely undertaker, Bob Marley mashed with The Way it Was, and Animal Rights. Place was going absolutely wild.
B.Marley vs. Wolfgang
Undertaker - Wolfgang Gartner

And then, right as I was about to leave, shit got weird. I had completely forgotten about The Devil From Acapulco. Now this wasn't my cup of tea, a silver painted dude running around in a loincloth and lights playing hard hittin' shit, but what the hell it was 2 in the morning, why not? And so we raged to some more party songs and dub drops for another half hour. Even he put on a great show.

As a final verdict, this is a tough decision for me, but the best act was definitely Porter Robinson. He's 19, and he outdid who some consider the best US DJ (Wolfgang) and put all the other acts to shame. This kid's going places, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the years to come.

For those of you that couldn't make it out, I strongly encourage you to go see something like this either in your hometown of in a city like Philadelphia, DC, NYC, or any other big city. It is something you will never forget. And here's some video coverage of what you missed.

much love,
Chris

Sunspot Jonz is one of the founding members of the California based hip hop group, Living Legends.

"Sunspot Jonz grew from the East Oakland soil that kills so many of its own seeds. Resilience, intellect, and the gift of gab allowed him to overcome more challenges in his youth than most people face in a lifetime. In the environment in which he lived, and so many of the homies died, Sunspot kept the original vision of Hip Hop alive, with a four track and dream, hustling tapes on Telegraph Ave., guerilla style, a warehouse livin’, Top Ramen eatin’ savage, sending a different message than all the other MC’s in the game. His life experience made him know that any human being can control their own destiny. Any human being can choose to ignore the negativity that society attempts to force upon us, and choose a different reality. Sunspot Jonz is a visionary."

Sup haters. Today I'm bringing you a new type of music for WDH, its called Trance. If you've ever thought electronic music was too hype, too basic, or too simple or party based only, nows the time to pay attention. Trance is the root for most electronic stars' rise to fame. To site a few, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyke (3 of the best ever) and Daft Punk. So yeah, its pretty good.

In honor of Armin Van Buuren's most recent show last saturday in DC, here is something he does every year combining the years best trance music into a 2 disc mixed cd. Here's 2010. This is without a doubt, MY FAVORITE ELECTRONIC MIX EVER. Props to my boi Luke for the find. Enjoy.

Howdy Haterz

Just checked Hypem and this was the #1 track. Mr. Little Jeans , ironically is a woman. Pictured darkly below. What I love about this Cry Wolf Remix of this Arcade Fire song covered by the aforementioned tight jean wearer, is its dubstep feel minus the drop. There are some sections that you might call a drop but really they are just dub womp womp influenced (no real buildup or beatdown section). I love how dubstep and electronic music are evolving and reacting with one another. The future is looking bright.

This weekend my buddy Chas rolled up to the 401 and with him came my introduction to a dope up and coming Electro-Duo:

BoomBox

BoomBox consists of two DJ's: Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux

"Together they develop an electronic blend of vintage Rock and Blues made to move dance floors while incorporating their signature Backbeat, Psychedelia and Funky House sounds. Applying a multi-track platform, they are free to create their hybrid style on the fly with a rhythm that moves fans and opens them up to Godchaux and Randolph’s overall vision. Derived from the rich musical history of Muscle Shoals, AL, to the psychedelic rock and underground electronic scenes of the west coast, their unique approach can only be achieved by the blending of sound and culture."
