Water is one of the simple elements and nutrients our body has to have. Citizens all over the world have become alarmed about the amount of water they drink and the quality of drinking water. For lots years people have considered drinking water from the taps with a water filter safe, but more and more consumers start drinking bottled water. Companies that produce bottled water promise better water than the water from the drinking water filters. The up swing demand for bottled water causes the increase in the amount of bottled water companies.

Millions of dollars per year is spent on the bottled water. Is the price justified by the quality of water in the bottles? Do we receive actually pure and healthy water?

The Coca-Cola Company was blamed for misleading the people. Coca-Cola brands, Dasani, has to face charges. Dasani advertised a pure spring water product. Coca-Cola Company has now hard time proving that Dasani bottles are filled with spring water and not with unfiltered tap water.

Several tests of bottled water have been conducted. The results were alarming. Every third bottle is filled with unfiltered tap water. Bottles that are marked as “pure spring water” are filled with water from a public water source. In recent cases water is taken from springs are near a waste dumping site. Even if this water comes from the tap water with filters people were promised to get real pure spring water. To get the same result you can put in your own water filter system at home and get water of better quality at much cheaper price.

You pay money and expect to get tastier water of a high quality. Instead you have un-purified water.

Are you sure bottled water is worth the money? Can you count on its quality?

What comes up even more is the results of the blind taste test. The New York City people were asked to taste different kinds of water. The participants didn’t know where the water was from. What happened? A Whopping 75% of people who were tested said that tap water from a water filter systems was tastier than bottled water.

You can not rely on the test taste results completely as tastes different and great taste does not necessary means great quality. These tests show that bottled water has no advantages over tap water. Drinking water that has come through a water filtered process proves to be better and more reliable than bottled water.
5267 Warner Avenue Suite 170
Huntington Beach, CA 92649

Dr. Omo is a chiropractor in a private practice in Lakewood, California. He specializes in preventative health care and medical diagnostic testing for the early detection and/or prevention of stroke, heart disease and cancer. Since earning his D.C. from Western States Chiropractic College in 1981, he has maintained a full time patient practice, while devoting as much time as possible to speaking programs on preventative health care.

He also has a degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and is completing post graduate work in orthopedics at Los Angeles Chiropractic College. He has served as a Qualified Medical Evaluator for the workers compensation system of California and utilizes cutting edge therapeutic nutrition extensively in his practice.

Dr. Omols program directly addresses, in layman's terms, all of the high tech diagnostic tests that are now available to the public. He explains how the average person can gain access to this information in order to protect themselves from heart disease, stroke and cancer which are responsible for most medical problems and/or deaths in the United States. In most cases these medical conditions can be greatly minimized or prevented if detected early enough using modern technology.

Dr. Omo lives in Huntington Beach with his wife and two children. He spends his free-time painting, playing musical instruments and church activities.

Pole dance studios and instruction across the country varies considerably. We can trace the influences of pole dancing to ancient styles of belly dance and other forms pole dancing as a workout for women. Women who runs these studios are operated by former performers, to others affiliated with either the dance and fitness industries.

The most important part to the safe practice of pole dancing is a safe environment and the teacher’s know how and application of body and proper bio-mechanics especially “lifting” motions at the pole. Students should be aware of secure pole installation standards. If the poles are not securely tighten down to the floor the ceiling clamps may slip, especially with lots of use by many students.

Commercial use of permanent poles are so much safer than the tension-loaded or “removable” ones. Students should ask about the type of poles a studio uses, since not only does installation vary, which affects safety, but so does learning on a “turning” or stationary/”non-turning” pole. Stationary poles are safer for at least beginning through intermediate students. Most women at studios enjoy and seek the “workout” part of pole dancing, which the turning poles takes away. The turning poles are usually used for advanced-level acts of aerial moves, since the body can reposition as long as it remains in constant movement. This is usually not women's care of starting out in practicing, on the other hand, some students tend to become dizzy on stationary poles, this is why the question of whether turning poles are necessary until advanced practicing.

Students should inquire about an instructor’s training and credentials in fitness and dance. Within the fitness and dance industries, a particular instructor’s know how and training varies. Far past the degrees and certificates, it is important that an instructor know and teach the muscle parts of movements. For instance, the shoulder is a round ball-and socket joint, we should never try to lift or hold our own body weight with the shoulder, instead the bigger stabilizing muscles of the latissimus-dorsi (back) should be noticed and conditioned properly before any lifts or spinning at the pole are done.

Injuries can occur with the “excessive kicking to get into the many upside-down moves at the pole. Moves at the pole should start with the top musculature transverse abdominals and muscles of the pelvic ground engage to fold the legs. Added to anatomy and anatomy of movement, or bio-mechanics, instructors believes that know how in the areas of the physics of dance help break-down parts in the movement for students. The applications of which are also critical in terms of showing modifications of a student’s physique, flexibility challenges, plus weak areas. To stop injuries that came from unsafe practice, it is critical to learn and take pole dancing from a instructor with lots of knowledge and skills. Moves at the pole should be “guarded” by an teacher who can properly intervene descents. Good safe practice of any new moves must have help, especially given the important of potential injuries to the head, neck, and spine in bad positions at the pole.

It is important to look for the interaction of teacher with students and students with other students. Usually, dance classes are known for their competition. Pole dancing consist of soft movements that may be initially hard to practice, it is must to not only have the support of an knowledge, patient teacher and understanding among other classmates. A class that feels good and “psychologically safe,” is preferred for anyone who wants know how and experience learning to pole dance. Learning any kind of moves involves risks which can be scary to make in a place where one may feel uncomfortable. Remember to properly hydrate yourself after each work out!
It's not just adults who are faced with an out break of obesity. Children are becoming overweight at a fast rate. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) statistics tell the chilling story of obesity among children between the ages of 6 to 11 has more than doubled in the last 20 years.

A study just published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine concludes there's a simple and effective solution to take away the excess eating of calories causing childhood overweight, obesity, and contributing to cavities and other health problems. The answer isn't a new drug-it is simply drinking more water not sugar sweetened drinks.

This was the conclusion of the researchers from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and the Harvard School of Public Health who authored the study. The Universities analyzed what children and young adults reported they ate and drank over two different days, also using nationally representative data from the 2003-2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Then the Universities estimated what substituting water for sweetened drinks would mean to the total energy intake of young adults and children between the ages two to 19. The answer? Drinking water not sugary drinks could eliminate an average of 235 excess calories per day among children and young adults.

The proof is now clear as day! Replacing these 'liquid calories' with calorie-free drinks alternatives both at home and in schools represents a important strategy to get rid of excess calories and stop childhood obesity. Y. Claire Wang, MD, ScD, assistant professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health talk about this topic in a statement to the press.

Dr. Wang explained in his statement by making sure children and young adults are more active is important. Dr. Wang also explained. simply eliminating the extra calories they don't need from these sugary beverages can tip the energy scale in a big way. For example, a typical 16-year-old girl would have to jog for 30 minutes in order to burn off the calories found in just one 12 oz can of cola.

Around 90% of U.S. children and young adults currently drink sugar sweetened beverages every day. These beverages include soda, fruit drinks, punches, sports drinks and sweetened tea. The calories these beverages have can add up to a big 10% or more of the youngsters' total daily consumption. On the flip side, there is no evidence that when youngsters eliminate or beverages few sugar sweetened drinks that they will increase their consumption of other foods and drinks to compensate, the scientists mention in their press statement. That means that every can of soda or sweetened fruit drink that is replaced by water translates into a large loss in daily calorie consumption.

Reversing the up swing in childhood obesity requires finding solutions like this to close the gap between every day energy consumption and daily energy expenditure. Changes such as this one can potentially add up to important benefits for the population as a whole.
Hi Everyone,

Alkaline drinking water has many benefits for the body! It Restores the pH balance in the body. Alkaline drinking water can neutralize the acidity of the body brought on by stress, modern diet, air pollution, and many bottled waters. A higher pH in the body takes away the need for fat and cholesterol to protect the body from bad acids. Alkaline water is negatively charged and an "antioxidant." Antioxidants take away cellular and DNA wreckage brought on by free radicals.

The negative charged of alkaline water makes energy by giving up electrons to positive ions. Alkaline water tastes lighter with a nice sweet flavor. Water with a higher pH level improves the taste of drinks and food. Cooking with this water improves the taste and quality of foods and when using the acidic water when boiling eggs makes the quality better. Alkaline drinking water provides the best hydration and nutrition at the cellular level.

The ionization process breaks clusters of water molecules into little micro-clusters, lessor size of the clusters from the 11-16 molecules in standard water to just 5-6 molecules in ionized water. Little clusters pass through cell walls more easily and hydrate the cells more faster. Quicker hydration allows the body to regulate its temperature more better. Micro-clusters of mineral-bearing ionized water also brings nutrients more efficiently to the cells, also detoxifies cells much more better than standard drinking water.

Because of their little size, micro-clusters of ionized water molecules are expelled from the cells more efficiently, carrying bad toxins out of the cells and flushing them out of the system. The negative charge of "Ionized" Alkaline water will find the positive ions of acids and neutralize them within the body.
Hi Everyone, this is part two of my 12 part article/blog on water hydration (Your Body is Screaming For Water). Water hydration is very important to the body! The body has a process primarily involves a strict rationing of water "reserve" of the body. It is assumed that water supply for the immediate needs of the body will be limited. Management of the available reserve of the water in the body becomes the responsibility of a complex system. This complex system is a multi-level water rationing and distribution process that remains in operation until the body receives a signals that it has gain access to adequate water supply. Every function of the body is monitored and pegged to the flow of water. Water Management is the only way of making sure that adequate amounts of water and its transported nutrients first reach more vital organs that will have confront and deal with any new stress.

One of the unavoidable process is the body water rationing phase is the complete cruelty with which some functions are monitored so that one structure does not receive more than its predetermined share of water. This is true for all organs of the body. Within these systems of water rationing, the brain function takes absolute priority over all the other systems. The brain is1/50th of the total body weight, but it receives 18-20 percent of the blood circulation. When the "ration master" in charge of the body water reserve regulation and distribution become more and more active, they also give their own alarm signal to show that the area in question is short of water, very much like the radiator of a car giving out stem when the cooling system is not adequate for the uphill drive of the car.

In today's societies, thinking that tea, coffee, alcohol, and manufactured beverages are desirable substitutes for the purely natural water needs of the daily "stressed" body is an elementary but big mistake. It is true that these beverages contain water, but what else they contain are dehydrating agents. They get rid of water they are dissolved in plus some more water from the reserves of the body. Today modern life style makes people dependent on all sorts of beverages that are commercially manufactured. children are not educated to drink water, they become dependent on sodas and juices. This is self-imposed restriction on the water needs of the body. It is not generally possible to drink manufactured beverages in full replacement of water needs of the body. At the same time, a cultivated preference for taste of these sodas will automatically reduce the free urge to drink water when sodas are not available.

Presently, practitioners of medicine are unaware of the many chemical roles of water in the body. Because dehydration eventually causes loss of some functions, the various sophisticated signals given by the operators of the body's water rationing program during severe and lasting dehydration have been translated as indicators of unknown disease conditions of the body. This is the most basic mistake that has deviated clinical medicine. It has prevented medical practitioners from being able to advise preventive measures or offer simple physiologic cures for some major diseases in humans.

With the appearance of these signals, the body should be provided with water for these rationing systems to distribute. how ever, the medical practitioners have been taught to silence these signals with chemical products. Of course they have zero understanding of the significance of this most gross error. The various signals produced by these water distributors are indicators of regional thirst and drought of the body. At the onset, they can be relieved by an increased intake of water itself, yet they are improperly dealt with by the use of commercial chemical products until pathology is established and diseases are born. it is unfortunate that this mistake is continued until the use of more and more chemicals to treat the other developing symptoms and complications of dehydration becomes unavoidable, and then the patient dies.

The error in silencing the different signals of water shortages of the body with chemical products is immediately detrimental to the cells of the body of the person being treated. The established signal producing chronic dehydration also has a permanently damaging impact on subsequent descendants of the person. I take pleasure in bringing to your attention a breakthrough knowledge in medicine that can benefit every person who may fall ill, and especially the elderly. Be sure and look for my next article/blog were I will be discuss the topic Why "Medicine" Doesn't Cure Disease further.

Your Body Is Screaming For Water!
Hi everyone!
Rob Barrie here! Finally got enough juices to start writing again! It has been a while since my last blog about water hydration, but I have been busy reading new books and working my new radio show (Water S.O.S Radio)! I will talk about my new radio show later, but first I want to share some Yes! water hydration news! This is the first of 12 article chapters on water hydration. I have been a water drinker all my life. I have been drinking alkaline water for the past 3yrs. I found out through reading books and talking to doctors across the country that the human body possesses a variety of sophisticated indicators when it runs short of water-emergency indicators of dehydration and thirst. The body has many more than one "dry mouth" indicator of water shortage.

Equally obvious, the greatest tragedy in medical history is the fact that medical professionals have not understood the human body's variety of calls for water! They have traditonally restore to using chemicals and "procedures" to deal with chronic dehydration of the body! This is a monumental mistake, but a blatant fact!! We are now at the dawn of a new era in the medical science. It is chronic water shortage in the body that causes most of the diseases of the human body! The original design of the human body is more complete than you can imagine.

If we have not known how to maintain it until now, it is our own fault. We have to stop and think, if the body is mainly water, where will it get its top-up if we don't drink water on regular basis? The health care crisis of America that bankrupt the nation if permitted to continue in its present trend, is not caused by the way it is operated Nor is it entirely the result of greed based pricing. It caused by most primitive mistake in the basic premise in science of physiology that is foundation to all medical and scientific knowledge of the human body. It is caused because the public and the professionals don't yet know when the human body is thirsty for water! Be sure and read part-2 of Your Body Is Screaming For Water! I will discuss Why"Medicine Doesn't cure Disease.

You can check out my new radio show(http://www.watersos.net/Water-SOS-Radio-s/67.htm) every Wensday 5pm-6pm west cost time! I will have lots of great guest on the show talking about health and water hydration!

Discover the Dangers of Tap Water That No One Can See

Why do residents of the United States need to worry about tap water chemicals the no one can see? Does the U.S. government not mandate the testing of water sources, in order to eliminate the dangers of tap water? Yes, the U.S, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established Maximum Containment Levels. Yet too few members of the public know much about those levels.

Too few members of the public take an interest in those levels. Too many U.S. citizens care about the tap water chemicals the no one can see. This article hopes to encourage readers to look more closely at the dangers of tap water. This article intends to offer the readers details about the tap water chemicals that no one can see.

U.S. citizens can not see the fluoride in tap water, yet they know that it is there. Since the period immediately following World War II, dental professionals have worked for the addition of silicofluorides to tap water. Those silicofluorides come from fluosilicic acid, a by-product of phosphate production.

When first introduced into tap water, silicofluorides were seen only a chemical that could help to harden the enamel on teeth. Only now are environmentalists suggesting that the fluoride in tap water might represent a potential danger. Their warnings underline the importance of filtering any water that comes from the tap.

Should those warnings fall on deaf ears, the environmentalists are also issuing other warnings. Some of those warnings relate to persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Made from man-made compounds that contain carbon, those POPs do not degrade quickly. They enter the environment, and they can be carried to far-off water sources.

Why are such chemicals able to get into water sources, and into so much of the tap water in the United States? Many manufactures produce those POPs and have no qualms about releasing those POPs into streams and lakes. The makers of paper products, the makers of vinyl plastics and the makers of siding all pollute the environment by releasing POPs.

Perhaps a reader of this article lives in an area that is far from any manufacturing facility. Perhaps a reader of this article thinks that he or she does not need to worry about what is in his or her tap water. That reader should know that insecticides are an additional source of POPs. Every time a gardener uses an insecticide, more POPs end-up on plant life, ready to be washed into the water system.

Nitrates are another of the chemicals that pose a danger. The precursors of nitrates form when nitrogen-oxygen ions combine with organic and inorganic compounds. If any of those organic or inorganic compounds contain either nitrogen or ammonia, then when they combine with a nitrogen-oxygen ion, a nitrate is produced. Waste and sewage serve as a rich source of nitrates.

There are nitrates in the lakes, streams and water systems of the United States. For that reason, there are nitrates in the tap water chemicals that should be of concern to the educated U.S. citizen. That same citizen should also pay attention to the available information about methods for diminishing the dangers.

The educated homeowner does not want to see residents of a home drinking unhealthy tap water chemicals. The educated homeowner wants the residents of a home to enjoy clean, pure, great-tasting water. An ever widening circle of homeowners has discovered that one particular water filtration system does the best job of putting clean safe water at the opening of the water tap.

A widening circle of homeowners has elected to buy a water filtration system that uses activated carbon filters with ion exchange and micron filtration. Those homeowners have chosen to use such a filtration system because they were concerned about chemicals. They wanted to eliminate from their concerns the possible dangers of tap water.

Those homeowners realized that they could do-away with those concerns by selecting the water filtration system that experts have classed as the "safest choice." Discover the dangers of tap water in and out of your home.

Many individuals have chosen to switch to bottled or filtered water due to poor tap water quality. However, many of these people are completely unaware of the real dangers of ingesting tap through drinking or absorption. They find that since water has already undergone several stages of treatment by municipal water treatment systems that it must be safe.

This could not be further from the truth. Tap water quality may be vastly improved by municipal treatment centers. However, these treatment centers often use the same technology put into practice decades before the current pesticides and herbicides were ever developed. Still, the governmental regulations on tap water processing help, right? Not necessarily.

In actuality, the governing regulations guiding treatment of tap water contamination are failing. There are thousands of reported violations of these regulations each year. Additionally, the regulations set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) set maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) that are well above zero.

This nearsightedness of governing agencies and municipalities has led to pressing health threats that grow each year. Tap water contamination is being linked to various types of cancer, dermatological problems, and learning disabilities. In fact, the chlorine used by treatment centers to cleanse the water is actually considered one of the leading causes for the increase in pediatric asthma.

There are also contaminants that affect tap water quality that enter the water after leaving the treatment plants. The worst of these are lead. Lead can enter the tap water through the pipes leading to or within the home. Lead causes severe developmental issues and learning disorders in children, and is especially dangerous for children and pregnant women.

There are many ways to eliminate or reduce tap water contamination in your home. Many people turn to bottled water. However, the truth is that bottled water is often no different. Even water claiming to be from springs may contain herbicides and pesticides due to runoff from agriculture and industry.

Different people turn to water filters for their countertops, or pitcher type filters. While these filters will reduce the level of contaminants and increase tap water quality, they still do not eliminate many of the most dangerous synthetic chemicals found in most tap water. Additionally, while the systems are inexpensive to purchase, the cost of filters make them an exorbitant monthly expense.

The best way to eliminate tap water contamination in your home is through a home water filtration system. There are many of them out there. The most low-cost systems use reverse osmosis methods for cleaning the water of minerals, chlorine, and other contaminants. However, these systems will also neglect to eliminate the more harmful synthetic chemicals.

The best way to improve your tap water quality is through the use of a home water filtration system that uses dual carbon based filters. Carbon based filters are the only type of filter that is recommended by the EPA for elimination of harmful tap water contaminants. Dual carbon based filters are more likely to eliminate more of these contaminants than a single stage filter alone. In fact, multi stage filters eliminate up to ninety eight percent of the contaminants found in most tap water.

How tap water is tested for contamination is important because you really do need to know what's in your water. You will find out in this article several methods how tap water is tested for contamination and what has shown up after tests have been taken in various cities around the country. We'll start with the simplest testing methods and then work our way up.

1) The very simplest method of testing water is by smell and taste. Try this, get a glass of water from your tap and cover it for a few minutes. Take the cover off and smell it, and then taste it. If you get a faint or sometimes an even stronger disinfectant smell (like bleach you can be sure that chlorine is present in your water. Even if you are lucky enough not to be able to smell or taste it, chlorine is in you water. While trace amounts of chlorine may not harm you right away, the long term exposure to chlorine and its by products such as chloroform increases the risk of some forms of cancer.
A quote from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Senior Research Team said "We are quite convinced, based on this study, that there is an association between cancer and chlorinated water."

2) Another method of testing your tap water for contamination is to purchase a home testing kit. For about $6 you can buy a kit that will allow you to test for contaminants such as chlorine and the hardness of your water. Hard water is mainly caused from the build up of calcium and magnesium. It is possible that the buildup of calcium and magnesium can cause damage to the water heater and plumbing in your home.

3) Depending on how much you want to spend you can purchase test kits that test for contaminants such as E. Coli (a main source of water borne disease), bacteria, lead, chlorine, nitrates, nitrites, water hardness, and the pH level of your water. You can by kits that test for each individual contaminant listed or a kit that test for all of them. If you should happen to use well water there are testing kits for that also.

4) If you don't want to spend any money you can do a Google search for "local drinking water information" without the quotes, and find information about the quality of the drinking water in your location.

5) How is tap water tested for contamination by the government is a common question that comes up. They test in a similar manner as the test kits mentioned above but a little more extensive than a home test kit. The problem is it is so costly to test every water supply that to do so would be more expensive than police, fire and city services for many small towns.

It's important to that contaminated water may not taste bad or even smell bad. One thing is for certain thousands of people each year come down with bacterial illnesses traced back to contaminated water. A mild case may cause diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, or other stomach problems. Some cases of bacterial illness from contaminated water are fatal.

Important Points -
Extensive studies have been performed by many well known authorities such as consumer advocates Ralph Nader on the pubic water supply. The results of the test show trace amounts of over 2,000 different chemicals all of them toxic in the public water system across the country.

If you are concerned and want to be certain test the water for your self. If you want to be safe consider the purchase of a high quality water filter that uses a combination of carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub micron filtration. This is the best type of water filter on the market. They are not very expensive if you buy DIRECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER and well worth the money you invest in one.
Hard Facts You Need to Know

Is tap water really dangerous? This is a question that needs to be answered by every person. It's not my intention to scare you, but simply provide you with some facts about the threats to your health. Here are some facts so you can make up your own mind to the is tap water really dangerous question.

Fact #1- Our Tap Water Is Polluted - The reasons for this include runoff from agriculture to people not properly disposing of common chemicals. Many people simply flush these chemicals down the toilet which make their way into our water supply.

Fact #2 - Not Many People Understand The Problems Caused By Improper Disposal Of Household Chemicals - As a people we use more than 80,000 different chemicals. Improper disposal has led to a tremendous increase in degenerative diseases such as arthritis. City water treatment facilities are not set up to filter out all the chemicals that enter the system.

Fact #3 - Cancer Is On The Rise Due To Chemical Contamination Of Our Tap Water - The chance of getting cancer before 1900 was 1 in 50. Since the wide use of synthetic organic chemicals (SOC's) such as pesticides, herbicides and the tens of thousands of other chemicals the chance has risen to 1 in 3.

Fact #4 - Us Drinking Water Contains Over 2,100 Toxic Chemicals That Can Cause Cancer -The Ralph Nader Study group recently concluded a review of more than 10,000 documents furnished by the Freedom of Information confirmed the fact that nearly every water supply used by the public has traces of SOC's that can cause cancer.

Fact #5 - City Water Treatment Plants Don't Remove SOC's - They are not equipped to do so. The city water treatment plants use a simple sand bed filtration system and use chlorine as a disinfectant. While this method does remove many pollutants it does not remove nearly enough letting in the toxic SOC's.

Fact #6 - Past Illnesses That Previously Had No Established Cause Are Now Being Linked To Polluted Tap Water - Granted, there are only small amounts of SOC's in tap water it is one of the main reason cancer experts believe are the cause for many of the cancers people are getting in the United States. Source: U.S. Council on Environmental Quality.

Fact #7 - The Safest Way To Protect Yourself - The easiest, most convenient, and safest way to protect yourself is to use a high quality water filtration product that uses a combination of carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub micron filtration. After extensive research, this type of filter has been proven to be the best and safest type of water filter you can purchase. They are not very expensive if you buy direct from the manufacturer and well worth the money you invest in it.

Is tap water really dangerous? You've read the facts and now it's up to you to decide.

Visit http://www.watersos.net for more information on the is tap water really dangerous question and where to buy MANAFACTURER DIRECT WATER FILTERS like those mentioned in this article. Expert author Rob Barrie has done extensive research on water filtration to save you time and money.
Using tap water to make baby formula is a very bad idea, and I'm going to give you 5 reasons why. If you have already been using tap water to make baby formula I'm not trying to make you feel bad, just provide you with a few bits of information so you can make up your own mind whether or not you want to keep using this method. If you have not started it is my intent to convince you that this may not be the best thing for your baby.

Reason #1 - According to the "Natural Resources Defense Council" the facilities that provide our water are out of date and old which means our water supply is threatened more and more each day by chemicals and microorganisms. These things eventually work their way into out tap water system.

Reason #2 - Dr David Ozonoff of Boston University School of Public Health and one of the United States leading experts on contaminated water was quoted as saying "The risk of disease associated with public drinking water has passed from the theoretical to the real."

Reason #3 - In the late 1800's and early 1900's the chance of contracting cancer was one in fifty. This was before the advent of modern water treatment facilities. Today since the advent and wide use of SOC's (synthetic organic chemicals) like herbicides, and pesticides, which now contaminate our water the possibility of contracting cancer has risen to one out of three and for males one out of two!

Reason #4 - Using bottled water to make your baby's formula is no better than tap water. Currently there are no standards required by the government that require bottled water to be any more pure or safer than ordinary tap water. The reason it could be worse is that many makers of bottled water use tap and then filter out only the bad smell of chlorine and nothing else! While the water does smell and taste better it still contains harmful chemicals and other pollutants.

The Most Important Reason
Reason #5 - The system which helps babies to detoxify certain harmful elements is not yet fully developed. The consequences of drinking baby formula mixed with highly toxic elements in your water are greatly magnified. The systems of babies are more sensitive than adults and are still developing. Babies drink more liquids on a pound for pound basis than adults so babies get a much larger dose of toxic chemicals in each bottle of formula they swallow using tap water.

The Solution
Now that you know the reasons, is using tap water to make baby formula the right thing to do for your baby? The best thing you can do for your baby is to consider buying a top quality water filter. The best quality water filter does not have to be expensive. In fact if you buy one direct from the manufacturer over the Internet you can purchase it for far less than a more expensive filter that is not as good. With a little effort you can find it.

A Look Inside That Glass You're About to Drink

What's inside our tap water you ask? Let's take a look at that glass of water you're about to drink and see. Many people are concerned about pollution when it comes to their water supply, but the news is not all bad as some would have you believe.

The Good News
Your tap water contrary to popular belief contains at least 3 beneficial ingredients. They are; magnesium, calcium, and sodium. Don't expect however to get your full minimum daily requirement of minerals from your tap water. In order to do so you would have to drink about a tub full of water to meet the MDR. That is what's inside our tap water that is good, so let's move on to some of the things that are not good.

Don't Let The Taste Fool You
Many people feel just because their tap water tastes good or has no smell that it is safe to drink. In some cases they are correct. However, if that were the case there would be no need for the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). One of this organizations main purposes is to make sure that what's inside our tap water meets a standard for the more than 100 different contaminants that is in most people's tap water.
Compared to most countries the tap water in America is relatively safe. However, babies, young children, and those with less than strong immune systems could be at risk from those contaminants.

Just To Name A Few
Just a few of the pollutants in that glass of water you are about to drink include lead, prescription drugs that have been improperly disposed of, bacterial cysts, chlorine, and dissolved toilet tissue just to name a few. There are many others that are far worse.

Now that you know some of what's inside our tap water you can decide if you want to drink it straight from the tap or consider other alternatives. By the way bottled water in most instances is no better than tap water, but that's another story.

Drugs in tap water are not a new issue. In fact back in 1999 it took a high school student named Ashley Mulroy then 17 from West Virginia to bring the issue to the forefront. While reading a science report Ashley saw an article about how European scientists had found that "drugs of all kinds, including antibiotics, were flowing in rivers, streams, ground water and even in tap water".

Ashley decided to start her own science project to see if drugs in tap water were a problem in her area. For the next two and a half month Ashley and her mother drove many miles along the Ohio River getting samples from different locations. When Ashley got back to her home she had the water samples tested for penicillin, tetracycline and vancomycin which are three common antibiotics.

The test results revealed trace amounts of all three antibiotics in the samples taken. Not quite finished Ashley took three more samples from close by cities, and a sample from a drinking fountain at her high school. Again drugs in tap water were found in the three samples and in the water from the drinking fountain in her high school!

Ashley caught the attention of many scientists in the United States with her drugs in tap water project. By the way she also received several science project awards. Unfortunately the sad truth is that this occurrence is not an isolated incident.

If you take the drugs mentioned plus other prescription drugs such as growth hormones, birth control, and various over the counter medicines and you have a real drug soup. Drugs in tap water are showing up all over the country, and could be devastating.

These drugs end up in our water supply when people flush outdated or unused drugs and medications down the toilet. Also medications and drugs that are not absorbed in the body end up as waste matter which finds its way back into the water supply.

Large quantities of drugs enter the water supply from animal farming. Animals are pumped full of hormones and other drugs which eventually enter the water supply as waste material. The bottom line is they are there. So what can you do about it? You have to take action now and protect yourself, and that doesn't mean bottled water. For the most part bottled water is really tap water. A fact many people are not aware of.
Water purifiers and water filters don't always do the job either. You need a quality water filter that features a dual filter system using a combination of carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub micron filtration to give you the best results. Anything else could literally be dangerous to your health.

In conclusion, drugs in tap water are everywhere. It's not a marketing ploy to get you to buy filtration products, but a very real health concern. Take matters into your own hands. The government can not possibly act fast enough to clear up the problem.

Expert author Rob Barrie has done extensive research into drugs in tap water and what to do to protect yourself.
Many people really want to know is tap water cleaner than bottled water sold at stores. I'm going to reveal 4 facts and let you answer the question for yourself. People are starting to ask this question more and more as they realize just how much money they are actually spending on bottled water.

Fact #1 - There are no guarantees or government policies stating that bottled water has to be any safer than ordinary tap water. Many bottled water distributors avoid federal regulations by selling their water within the same state it comes from. According to the FDA which governs bottled water "Unless the water is transported across state lines, there are no federal regulations that govern its quality" In a nut shell this means a company can bottle ordinary tap water, slap a fancy name on it and sell it to you. Some companies do just that.

Fact #2 - Water that arrives in your home from city sources are not allowed to have any E-coli or fecal coliform bacteria. Since there are no regulations on bottled water a small amount of any kind of coliform bacteria is permitted in bottled water. This comes from the FDA.

Fact #3 - Cryptosporidium or Giardia are 2 common water pathogens known to cause intestinal disorders and diarrhea that virtually all cities must prove are absent from the surface water they utilize. Companies distributing bottled water are not required to do this. Could many people who claim to have food poisoning really be getting sick from the bottled water they are drinking?

Fact #4 - According to a report from The Natural Resources Defense Council that basically said while tap water is definitely risky, after having comparing all the available data, they concluded that there is no guarantee that bottled water is any better or safer than tap water.

The bottom line to the is tap water cleaner than bottled water sold at stores question is you are paying up to $4 per gallon for the assumption that you are receiving higher quality than tap water. You really don't know what you are getting in that high priced bottle of water you just bought.

The best alternative and most cost effective to bottled water and tap water is a quality water filter. For our environment it is also the right choice to make. With a quality water filter you can make your own bottled water for fewer than 10 cents per gallon. Use that savings for the expensive gasoline prices we are now facing.

The great bottled water vs tap water debate is about over. In this great tap versus bottled water debate there is a clear cut winner, and the winner just might surprise you. Safe, pure water has a critical role in your health and well being, so this debate is an important one.

Point #1 - Winner Tap Water
Reason - Bottled water was first introduced the marketplace more than 30 years ago and from that time consumers have considered it to be of better a caliber than ordinary tap water. Sales have been gone up by approximately 15% annually during that time Bottled water is governed much less than tap water. Tap water is regulated by both state and federal authorities. Because it is more heavily regulated than bottled, tap makes the better case.

Point #2 - Winner Tap Water
Reason - Bottled water is very expensive when compared to tap water. Bottled in most places costs much more than a gallon of gas. Even if you use a water filter pitcher type product which cost around $80 per year it's still cheaper than the $220 you might spend per year on the cheapest brand of bottled . As mentioned above tap is more regulated than bottled and in most cases is considered to be safer. So why pay more for bottled water.

Point #3 - Winner Bottled Water
Reason - Bottled water is more convenient than tap water. You can take it with you just about anywhere you go. You save yourself from having to clean another glass which saves you time.

Point #4 - Winner Tap Water
Reason - Bottled water can also be a generator of bacterial pollution if not used the right way. Once the bottle has been opened up, bacteria may go in, particularly when drinking straight from the bottle. Also when left in the sun or heated the chemicals in the bottle end up in your water. Over the long term this could cause cancer or other diseases.

Point #5 - Winner Bottled Water
In case of an emergency such as a hurricane, earthquake or other disaster tap water may not be available. Bottled water could be a life saver. Having a few cases on hand is not a bad idea as long as you rotate them every so often. Storage over the long term is not considered safe due to the chemicals that could be released into the water from the plastic bottles.

Point #6 - Winner Tap Water
Reason - If you are into conservation, tap water is the clear winner here. Bottled water has to be held accountable for the tremendous amount of plastic being used causing all sorts of problems not to mention it is petroleum by product adding to the already high price of oil. Over 60,000,000 plastic bottles are produced, transported and disposed of EVERY DAY in the U.S. alone!

Point #7 - Overall Winner In The Tap Versus Bottled Water Debate - A Water Filter!
Reason - A good quality water filter using a dual filter system and a combination of carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub micron filtration will produce healthy good tasting water directly from your kitchen tap. A filter such as this gets rid of chlorine, lead, prescription drugs, pharmaceuticals, VOCs, MTBE and cysts (chlorine-resistant parasites) and leaves in the natural trace minerals which is much safer and more healthy than bottled or tap water and is much less expensive than bottled water on a yearly basis. A water filter does not waste natural resources like a plastic water bottle does.

Almost everyone agrees that tap and bottled water for the most part is not near as safe as water coming from a good quality water filter. So, the clear cut winner in the bottled water vs tap water debate is the water filter.
Under normal circumstances, the body's pH levels naturally run slightly alkaline. Most Americans' bodies are overly acidic because of our poor diet filled with acid producing overly processed foods. Because of this, many health professionals suggest that we drink alkalized water.

Here are 10 reasons why you should consider drinking alkaline ionized water to change your pH levels:

1. Alkalized water provides a way to help the body restore it's natural alkaline pH.

It helps to keep your body ph levels balanced which helps keep the body running in optimal condition. Ionized water helps reduce many symptoms of aging and increases energy.

2. Overly acidic bodies promote disease. Alkaline pH levels help fight disease, so drinking alkaline water helps you stay healthier. As a natural antacid, alkaline water can reduce acid reflux and help neutralize the acidity in the body to prevent sickness and some chronic diseases.

3. Drinking alkalized water promotes weight loss. Micro-structured water is easier for the body to metabolize and helps with losing weight.

4. Alkaline water is rich in antioxidants! Micro-structured water attacks free radicals through powerful antioxidant properties. Medical studies show that alkaline ionic water has powerful antioxidant properties-- even better than vitamins A, C, E, beta carotene and selenium.

Regular tap and bottled water have a positive ORP - molecules that oxidize our tissues and and accelerate aging. Only alkaline water has a negative ORP - the antioxidant molecules we need.

5. Ionized alkaline water is living water. An ionizer does more than filter; it changes the structure of water to an ionized state, which makes it easier for the body's cells to absorb. Living water is water with a natural hexagonal, snowflake-like geometric structure of hexagonal crystal. Living water is found in healing springs around the world, and that this geometrical structure is what gives the water its healing properties.

Filtered, distilled, tap and bottled spring water do not have this crystal structure. There is no electrical charge, so they are dead, which is why they are not as easily absorbed into your cells.

6. You are actually rehydrating your body with ionized water. Your body will be up to six times more hydrated with alkaline water than when drinking dead water. Hydration helps the body function better and increases your energy levels.

7. Alkalized water is anti-aging and helps with your skin. Effective hydration helps your skin look healthier and the body detox easier. There are many anti-aging properties in alkaline water, like antioxidants, oxygen, alkaline minerals, and the very structure of the water itself.

8. You flood your body with oxygen when you drink alkaline water! Green juices and alkaline water are best way to do this. Alkalized water has extra oxygen - one oxygen atom for every one hydrogen (OH) whereas ordinary water has two hydrogen atoms (H2O)-- more hydrogen, so more acid.

9. Ionized alkaline water is better for cooking and food preparation. It makes your coffee and tea healthier and taste better. Vegetables simmered in it retain their natural texture and color, and rice and oats are fluffier when boiled in it. You also get better absorption of nutrients from foods you eat when they are prepared with it.

10. Many alkaline water drinkers report that they have more clarity of mind and energy because of the extra oxygen that ionized water supplies.

Drinking pure ionized alkaline water is not an excuse to continue to eat in an unhealthy manner or avoid getting medical attention, but it is an important step to take toward wellness. Micro-structured water supports the body's ability to heal itself and maintain an alkaline pH within the body.

Diabetes symptoms can range through fatigue, thirst, infections, blurry vision and a lot more.

It's important for you to know the symptoms as a first line indication as to whether you or your children have contracted it? If you find you have these symptoms then you need to take action quickly. Diabetes is a highly debilitating illness which often ends in death and it needs to be taken seriously.

Alkaline water has been found to be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of diabetes and helping sufferers get off their medication... but before taking any steps on your own it's important to seek a diagnosis from a qualified physician.

In Type 1 diabetes, the symptoms can often come on suddenly and dramatically. It mostly shows up in childhood or early teens often after an illness, virus or injury. The extra stress can cause diabetic ketoacidosis. Without treatment, ketoacidosis can lead to coma and death.

Symptoms of Type 2 diabetes are often not obvious and you may think they are due to aging or obesity. It's possible to have Diabetes 2 for many years without being aware that you have it. Steroids and stress can be big factors in the onset of Diabetes 2. It's important to take this illness seriously; it can lead to unpleasant outcomes like blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, and nerve damage.

Here are some of the Common symptoms of Diabetes 1 and Diabetes 2

Excessive and Unusual Tiredness:

When you contract diabetes the body is mostly unable to use glucose for fuel. It begins instead to metabolize fat to get the extra fuel it needs. This process is not very efficient. You have less energy than before and you feel tired.

Weight Loss You Just Can't Explain:

Because you can't metabolize sugar, much of the fuel in your food is excreted in your urine via the kidneys. You may find yourself eating way more food than normal and still losing weight. You become dehydrated and lose even more weight.

Excessive thirst:

The high concentration of sugar in your bloodstream overcomes your normal kidney function. Instead of being re-absorbed for future use the sugar is passed out in your urine. The brain senses a need to dilute the blood and you experience this as thirst. As a result you find yourself drinking more water as the body tries to correct this sugar imbalance.

Increased Urination:

The body tries to excrete the excess sugar via the kidneys. As a result you pass more water and feel thirsty.

Overeating:

The body will try to increase its levels of insulin production to reduce the excess blood sugar. Insulin is the key that opens the muscles and lean tissue to receive the sugar. But in Type 2 Diabetes you become insulin resistant. Your muscles refuse to take up the sugar.

Another job of insulin is to make you hungry... you can't absorb this extra insulin so you are driven to eat more.

Wounds Refuse to Heal:

When you have high blood sugar levels your white blood cells can't do their job properly. As a result your wounds heal slowly and often get infected.

Thickening of the Arteries

Long term diabetes can cause your arteries to thicken, reducing blood flow.

You catch more Infections:

Because your immune system is no longer functioning as well as it should you'll often find you are contracting skin and yeast infections as well as urinary tract infections.

Mood Swings:

You may find yourself agitated, irritable or unable to concentrate - all are symptoms of very high blood sugar levels

Impaired Vision:

You may find you have difficulty focusing and things appear blurry.

Don't despair! There are natural solutions available. Alkaline water has been found to be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of diabetes and helping sufferers get off their medication.

Ordinary tap water can be run through an alkaline water ionizer and produce both short term and long term relief for diabetes sufferers. And this ionized water is rich in negative ions which act as a powerful anti-oxidant to neutralize the hordes of free radicals in our bodies.

Keep the Body Alkaline for Optimum Health

he term pH stands for potential hydrogen. It is the degree of concentration of hydrogen ions in a substance such as water, blood and food. pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. The lower the pH reading - the more acidic a substance is. The higher the pH reading, the more alkaline the body is. A pH of 7 is neutral. Ph balance is the balance of acid and alkaline in all fluids and cells throughout your body. Our bodies are alkaline by design and acid by function. This means that our bodies function more efficiently when slightly alkaline, but bodily functions, such as digestion, are acid producing. So what can we do to ensure that our bodies remain more alkaline and balanced?

The human body's metabolic process is naturally acid producing. However, this waste needs to be neutralized or "balanced" so it can be safely eliminated from the body without damaging tissues and organs that are responsible for detoxifying the body. Alkalinity is needed to neutralize and balance acidity. The presence of alkalinity in the body's acid producing environment is counteractive to the onset of illness and disease and also prevents decomposition.

"Acidosis" refers to an acid pH. It is an imbalanced acidic condition of all bodily fluids. Almost all cellular functions in the body are sensitive to the pH of their fluids. If the pH falls too far to the acidic side the cells become poisoned in their own toxic wastes and will die. All chemical processes have an ideal pH. Your blood should have a pH of 7.35 - 7.45. Many studies show that people with a correct blood pH enjoy good health; whereas, people with a low, or acidic, pH are more likely to be ill. The slightest imbalance can cause serious illness and disease.

The body will do whatever it must to maintain the blood pH balance, and will continually steal acidneutralizing minerals from wherever necessary, such as calcium from bones and teeth. The blood will dump the acid into other body organs in an effort to detoxify itself. The organs then dump the acid back into the blood, creating a vicious cycle of trying to rid itself of acidity. This cycle can be ended with a properly balance pH.

Symptoms of mild cases of acidosis include headache, lack of energy, sleepiness, fast and shallow breathing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and loss of appetite. Acidosis can result in rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, lupus, tuberculosis, osteoporoses, high blood pressure and most cancers.

Metabolic acidosis occurs when the body has more acidity then alkalinity in it. Eating a diet of excessive meats, grains and breads, dairy products, sugar, overcooked, refined and processed foods and fast foods, can lead to an acidic pH balance. Other factors can include overload from pollutants and chemicals, emotional stress and negative thinking. Even excessive exercising (past the point of exhaustion) causes acidity.

The most important way to stay alkaline is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

- Increase the amounts of vegetables and fruit (alkaline foods) that you eat while decreasing the amount of acid-forming foods, such as grains, dairy products, pasta and breads. Juicing vegetables can be an excellent way to increase your alkaline food intake.

Just because a fruit or vegetable may be acid, that doesn't mean it will be acid when it is digested. When foods are digested, they turn into "ash". This ash is what determines if a food is acid or alkaline.

- It is important to remember that the method of cooking will also have either an acidic or alkaline reaction. For example, a potato that is baked or boiled in its jacket is alkaline food, whereas a fried potato is acid-forming.

- Make sure you drink at least 2 liters of good water per day. Normal tap water falls short of being good for you. Most city water has additives such as chlorine and fluoride, which are acid forming. Distilled water, water treated by reverse-osmosis or alkaline waters are best.

- Stress - Joy helps to alkalize the body. Take time to relax, have fun and laugh!

- Exercise will tend to make the body more alkaline, but exercising excessively will become acid-forming.

Bottled Water Found Contaminated with Medications, Fertilizer, Disinfection Chemicals

Bottled water across the country contains a wide variety of toxic substances, according to laboratory tests conducted by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

"Our tests strongly indicate that the purity of bottled water cannot be trusted," the study authors write. "Given the industry's refusal to make available data to support their claims of superiority, consumer confidence in the purity of bottled water is simply not justified."

Researchers conducted comprehensive tests at the renowned University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory on 10 leading bottled water brands, purchased from retailers in nine states and the District of Columbia (D.C.). A total of 38 toxic pollutants were detected altogether, with each brand containing an average of eight. Chemicals detected included fluoride, byproducts of chlorine-based disinfection, caffeine, pharmaceutical drugs, fertilizer residue, plasticizers, solvents, fuel propellants, arsenic, other minerals and heavy metals, and radioactive isotopes. Four brands also contained bacteria.

More than a third of the chemicals detected are not regulated by the bottled water industry. Voluntary industry standards regulate the following two-thirds, but water purchased in five states and in D.C. contained levels of some carcinogens in excess of even the industry's standards.

"In other words, this bottled water was chemically indistinguishable from tap water," the authors write. "But with promotional campaigns saturated with images of mountain springs, and prices 1,900 times the price of tap water, consumers are clearly led to believe that they are buying a product that has been purified to a level beyond the water that comes out of the garden hose."

Further analysis at the University of Missouri found that when applied to breast cancer cells, one brand of water led to a 78 percent increase in proliferation rate compared with untreated cells. The addition of estrogen-blocking chemicals noticeably reduced this effect.

"Though this result is considered a modest effect relative to the potency of some other industrial chemicals ... the sheer volume of bottled water people consume elevates the health significance of the finding," the researchers write.

The researchers were unable to determine if estrogen-mimics in the water came from the water itself or had leached out of the plastic bottle.

In accordance with standard scientific practice, the report does not name the brands tested. Exceptions were made for the brands Sam's Choice (Wal-Mart) and Acadia (Giant), however, which contained toxin levels high enough to violate California law.

Samples of both brands tested positive for trihalomethanes, which have been linked to reproductive disorders and cancer. The chemicals form when water disinfectants react with pollution. The water also contained bromodichloromethane, a carcinogen regulated under California law. In response, EWG is preparing a lawsuit against Wal-Mart to require that Sam's Choice water contain the legally required notice: "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer."

Acadia-brand water is not sold in California.

Bottled water purchased from these brands also exceeded the bottled water industry's voluntary standards.

"The bottled water industry boasts that its internal regulations are stricter than the FDA bottled water regulations," the researchers write, "but voluntary standards that companies are failing to meet are of little use."

EWG notes that while municipal water companies are required to test tap water yearly and disclose the results, there is no comparable requirement for the bottled water industry. Bottled water companies do not have to test their water or reveal the results when they do; they are not even required to tell consumers where the water came from or how it has been treated. A separate EWG survey of 228 bottled water brands found that less than half revealed their water's source or treatment history in their promotional materials.

Other problems with bottled water, EWG says, include its high price (an average of $3.79 per gallon, compared with $0.002 for tap water) and its environmental impacts. In the United States, the manufacture of plastic bottles requires 15 billion barrels of oil per year, the report notes, and only one-fifth of bottles used are even recycled. Many bottled waters are extracted from natural sources such as streams and aquifers, placing an increased strain on those communal resources.

The report recommends that information about the source of all bottled water and any treatment techniques used on it be made available to the public, along with the results of any tests for contamination.

"Currently there is a double standard: Where tap water suppliers provide information to consumers on contaminants, filtration techniques, and source water; bottled water companies do not," the report says. "This double standard must be eliminated immediately; bottled water should conform to the same right-to-know standards as tap water."

Noting that bottled water consumption has doubled in the last decade, the authors recommend that consumers worried about toxins instead use home filtration systems, which cost only about $0.31 per gallon, or even $0.25 per day for a whole-house filter. Whole-house filters also remove contaminants from non-drinking water sources such as showers, preventing toxins from volatizing into the air.

Finally, the authors call for immediate action to protect surface and groundwater sources nationwide.

"Some Americans turn to bottled water in part because they distrust the quality of their tap water," the report says. "And sometimes this is for good reason. Some drinking water (tap and bottled) is grossly polluted at its source -- in rivers, streams, and underground aquifers fouled by decades of wastes that generations of political and business leaders have dismissed, ignored, and left for others to solve."

Antidepressant drugs found in drinking water; pharmaceuticals have now become environmental pollutants

Pharmaceuticals are now being found in drinking water, according to a study conducted in England. The study looked at 12 pharmaceuticals thought to pose an environmental threat, including painkillers, antibiotics, and antidepressants, and it found traces of these pharmaceuticals in both sewage waters and drinking water. It also found traces in the rivers downstream from the sewage treatment plants.

This is shocking information -- apparently we are dosing ourselves with such high levels of pharmaceuticals that we are now collectively polluting the rivers, streams and even the drinking water for the mass public. Even though this study was conducted in the U.K., there's little doubt that much of the same story would be found here in the United States as well. Why? Because in the United States, these drugs are also being prescribed at alarming levels, and after people take these drugs, they are, of course, entering the sewage treatment centers and being dumped into the rivers and streams that later on are used to make drinking water for people downstream. (Which reminds me, check out a book entitled, "Living Downstream" if you want the details on what's really going on with our rivers these days...)

All of this comes down to the mass medication of the public with trace amounts of prescription drugs. In another words, if you're drinking tap water that's tainted with these drugs, you're getting a little bit of Prozac whether you like it or not. And since we now know that antidepressant drugs promote violent behavior, including suicides and homicides, there's justified alarm at the idea that we're going to medicate the entire country with trace amounts of antidepressant drugs in one grand experiment. Maybe we'll just dump all of these drugs into the water supply, and step back and see what happens. There's already been talk of dumping statin drugs into the water supply because they are presumably so good for your health that everyone should be taking them whether they like it or not.

All of this brings up an issue that has been largely ignored by the pharmaceutical companies, and that is: what is the environmental impact of the mass prescription and mass consumption of their drugs? If millions upon millions of people are taking these drugs, then the environmental impact is potentially quite large. These drugs are, of course, synthetically produced, highly toxic chemicals that not only impact the health of human beings, but also potentially compromise the health of fish and creatures in our oceans. This could be one of the reasons why ocean life is continuing to decline around the world, and it seems like it won't be very long at all before these prescription drug pollutants start showing up in shrimp, crab, lobsters and perhaps someday, even in seaweed. If you thought mercury poisoning was bad, just wait until you hear the announcement that shrimp is contaminated with Prozac.

Interestingly, most pharmaceutical chemicals are not regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, and thus there is no enforced limit of pharmaceuticals in the drinking water. In fact, in the United States, there is no government agency that is even testing the level of pharmaceuticals in public drinking water on a regular basis. So it is possible, and in fact likely that these levels will continue to rise in the years ahead without being detected or reported to the public at all.

Of course, as I've often said on this site, if you're drinking tap water, you're probably quite foolish to begin with. Most people reading this aren't drinking tap water, and thank goodness for that, because prescription drugs are just one of the many potential toxic pollutants in tap water. You certainly don't want to be consuming this stuff -- instead, you want to be drinking spring water or filtered water, using a quality water filter such as a carbon block filter or a reverse osmosis filter. Distilled water is also good for drinking.
If you're not drinking tap water, the potential for exposure to these toxic pharmaceutical chemicals in the water is remote. If you're showering in water that has some tiny amount of Prozac in it, for example, chances are you're not going to be absorbing a very high dose of Prozac, or at least not high enough to the point where it would be biologically active.

But sadly, most of the population is drinking tap water, and that's where this is a real concern. Just as America Online is now being increasingly questioned over the environmental impact of their tens of millions of free CDs each year that are distributed all over the country, I think it is reasonable now for pharmaceutical companies to answer to the justified accusation that they are manufacturing and releasing toxic chemicals into the environment through human customers. The fact that these toxic chemicals move through the bodies of human first doesn't make them any less toxic to our environment. They should be regulated by the EPA, and they should not be allowed in our rivers and streams, and in a very real sense, pharmaceutical companies should be held financially responsible for the environmental damage caused by their chemical products.

Another interesting thought on all of this is that many plant fertilizer products and soil products contain treated biosludge, which also contains, of course, human waste. These biosludge soil and fertilizer products will also undoubtedly be found to contain levels of pharmaceuticals such as Prozac, Viagra, statin drugs, and antidepressant drugs. The question then becomes, what happens when you start growing crops in these soils? Are these drugs neutralized by the plants, or are they in some way absorbed by the plants where they once again enter the food chain when human beings consume those plants? Is there any regulation of the use of biosludge fertilizers that contain toxic pharmaceutical chemicals?

Sadly, we are increasingly living in a world that is polluted not only by heavy metals, PCBs, and emissions from gasoline engines, we are now living in a world where even our water is polluted with pharmaceutical chemicals which is a direct result of the reckless and widespread prescription of pharmaceuticals by practitioners of conventional medicine. Once again, it seems that as long as there are profits to be made, everybody in the pharmaceutical industry is happy, regardless of the negative impact on the environment. In fact, I don't think you even hear much talk at all these days about pharmaceutical companies working to protect the environment. It's pretty much just, "Here, take this drug, pay us $100 a pill, and then flush it down the toilet. After that, we don't want to think about it anymore."

Most tap water polluted by dirty municipal infrastructure

As the United States becomes a nation of 300 million, the country’s older cities face the reality of overpopulation, crumbling infrastructures, and the health concerns raised by both, especially those related to the availability of fresh water.

Eric Goldstein, a spokesman for the Natural Resources Defense Council, has stated that the water distribution systems of cities such as Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia and New York are in urgent need of repair.
The antiquated water delivery systems in these cities are comprised of nearly 1 million miles of piping, mostly made of iron. As the iron pipes corrode, clean water flowing through them becomes contaminated with rust. Over time the pipes also rupture, causing not only water loss, but the introduction of pollutants and diseases from the ground.

“Investigations conducted in the last five years suggest that a substantial proportion of waterborne disease outbreaks, both microbial and chemical, are attributable to problems within distribution systems,” said the National Research Council in a report released in December for the Environmental Protection Agency.
There are 170,000 public water distribution systems at work nationwide, and municipalities spend more than $50 million each year to supply clean drinking water in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974.

“If you clean up water and then put it into a dirty pipe, there’s not much point,” said Montana State University microbiologist and water research scientist, Timothy Ford. “I consider the distribution system to be the highest risk and the greatest problem we are going to be facing in the future,” said Ford.

Jack Hossbuhr, executive director of the American Water Works Association, estimates that the cost of replacing existing pipelines over the next 20 to 30 years is going to cost water utility companies some $250 to $350 billion.

Some critics of current water delivery techniques feel that replacing the infrastructure is not a total solution.
“I advise everyone to avoid drinking water from the tap, no matter how clean the city claims it to be,” said consumer health advocate Mike Adams. “Even when cities claim their water is clean, they may still add toxic fluoride chemicals and chlorine, which we know promotes bladder cancer. Filtering your water is crucial for protecting your health.”

Pepsi admits Aquafina comes from tap water

It's a great marketing gimmick: A bottle of water with a clean, blue label showing images of snow-capped mountains and the claim, "Pure water, perfect taste." That's the image created by Pepsico's Aquafina brand of water, and many consumers leap to the incorrect conclusion that Aquafina is sourced from mountain spring water.

In reality, Aquafina comes from tap water. Yes, the same water you get when you turn on your kitchen faucet. Of course, Aquafina is filtered, purified and perhaps even enhanced with trace amounts of added minerals, but it's certainly not mountain spring water. It's just processed tap water -- the same stuff that fills your toilet bowl when you flush.

Both the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) and the FDA believe there's really no need to require bottled water manufacturers to admit their products come from tap water. No surprise there -- both these organizations routinely act to protect the interests of powerful corporations, and when it comes to bottled water, the biggest companies are often those sourcing the lowest quality water (such as tap water).

This idea that consumers should not be informed their high-priced bottled water is really just filtered tap water is consistent with the aims of food, drug and beverage corporations, who almost universally agree that consumers should be given less information, not more, about the products they're swallowing. Over the last several decades, corporations have vigorously opposed truth in labeling laws and regulations, including those requiring the labeling of trans fatty acids, sodium content and even ingredients lists! (If the food corporations had their way, all ingredients would be considered "proprietary formulas" and not listed on the label at all.)

This bottled water issue brings to light the apparent deceptive practices of some of the largest suppliers of bottled water products. By avoiding the honest labeling of the source of their water while relying on snow-capped mountain imagery, these companies quietly mislead consumers into thinking their water products are from a pristine, natural source such as a mountain spring.

CAI pressures PepsiCo to tell the truth
PepsiCo only agreed to tell the truth on their bottled water labels after being pressured by Corporate Accountability International (CAI), a non-profit organization that helps protect consumers from corporate abuse. See their website at http://www.stopcorporateabusenow.org

CAI rallied consumers from around the world to complain to PepsiCo about the current labeling of Aquafina, and thousands of consumers slammed PepsiCo's phone lines so hard that the company was forced to shut down call center operations. CAI told Water S.O.S that within 30 minutes after the call-to-action announcement went live, PepsiCo's consumer phone lines were no longer being answered and would not allow callers to leave voice mails. Pepsi executives reportedly held an emergency meeting and made a decision to add the phrase, "Public water source" to Aquafina labels.

Reluctantly admitting a small part of the truth
Even then, the phrase "public water source" isn't very descriptive. To some people, the phrase simply implies that Aquafina is itself a public water source. It's not the same as admitting, "Aquafina comes from tap water," which would be a far more honest way to label the product. But PepsiCo seems to have no interest in advertising the source of their Aquafina product, and my guess is that the "public water source" text on the label will be really small and difficult to read. It's much like the labeling of side effects of prescription drugs: They bury the bad news somewhere that most consumers won't ever look.

Aquafina is currently the top-selling bottled water brand in the United States. According to CAI, 4 out of 5 consumers now drink bottled water, and 1 out of 5 drink it as their sole water source! (Gee, that's a lot of plastic going to landfill, too...)

The bottles used to package bottled water are almost always made from plastics containing bisphenol-A (BPA), a carcinogenic chemical that often leaches into the water and gets swallowed by consumers. A chemical widely believed to contribute to certain cancers. This contamination factor, however, is true for all products stored in plastic bottles, not merely water. Sports drinks, sodas, fruit drinks and even "healthy" smoothie drinks packaged in plastic all share a common risk of BPA contamination.

Bottled water vs. public water infrastructure
The widespread shift towards bottled water products is increasingly causing consumers to lose faith in public water infrastructure, which ultimately leads to public reluctance to support investment in public water supplies. This concerns many cities who are worried that a lack of public support will cause funding for water infrastructure to erode.

These people tend to describe treated municipal water as remarkably pristine and safe for human consumption. In my opinion, however, tap water should never be swallowed without filtering it, since tap water contains scary levels of toxic chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride, a dangerous water additive chemical often contaminated with arsenic.

So I wouldn't drink from the public water supply in the first place, but neither do I rely on bottled water. I use a water filtration system to clean tap water before I drink it. (Coincidentally, this is similar to what PepsiCo does when creating Aquafina water, except PepsiCo uses plastic bottles, where I only drink out of glass or stainless steel.)

You can get clean public water in places like Hawaii, Oregon and anywhere that's close to the mountains, but most folks in first world nations are getting tap water that's far from pristine. The public water infrastructure in the U.S. may be among the best in the world, but that's not saying much. I won't even shower in U.S. public water without using a chlorine filter on my shower head. (Recommended brand: Aquasana at http://www.aquasana.com )

My view on PepsiCo
Since this story has much to do with PepsiCo, I thought I would offer my personal opinion on this corporation. In my opinion, PepsiCo is a highly destructive corporation that is partially responsible for obesity, diabetes, depression and bone disorders among hundreds of millions of people around the world. Through its aggressive (and deceptive, in my opinion) marketing campaigns, lack of corporate ethics and ready willingness to exploit human beings for profit, PepsiCo has risen to be one of the most financially profitable yet ethically bankrupt organizations on the planet.

If PepsiCo were to disappear from the face of the earth tomorrow, humanity would be healthier the very next day. PepsiCo's brands include: (followed by my opinion statement about that particular brand)

Frito-Lay: Dangerous junk food that contributes to obesity, heart disease, cancer, depression and other serious diseases.

Pepsi-Cola: Toxic beverages that destroy bone mineral density and poison consumers with chemical sweeteners in diet drinks.

Gatorade: Crap sports drinks that contain artificial colors made from petrochemical derivatives.

Tropicana: A low-end fruit juice brand engaged in deceptive labeling for many of its products.

Quaker: This is perhaps the only tolerable brand in the PepsiCo portfolio. Oatmeal is essentially good for you, although instant oats and all the sugars found in many oatmeal products make it a rather high-glycemic food that's not recommended for most people (especially diabetics or obese people).

Put it all together and you have a collection of some of the least healthy foods and beverages on the market today. When future historians examine today's epidemics of obesity and diabetes, they will no doubt scrutinize the role of companies like PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, both of which are partly to blame for modern disease epidemics. Both companies, by the way, continue to engage in routine marketing of junk foods and sodas to children.

Pepsico is a corporation that won't even list the acrylamide content in their fried foods. Nor will it publicly admit that high-fructose corn syrup has any link whatsoever to obesity. PepsiCo, in my opinion, is a corporation living in a deviant reality, unwilling to take responsibility for its role in poisoning the population through its toxic food and beverage products.

That's my personal opinion of PepsiCo, its brands and its products. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything made by PepsiCo. I have no desire to financially reward this company by purchasing its products. If anything, we should all be boycotting PepsiCo products (and Coca-Cola, for that matter) and getting our water from somewhere else.

When traveling through airports, of course, I am sometimes forced to buy Aquafina or Dasani, as nothing else is available. This is the only time you'll ever see me drinking out of a PepsiCo bottle.

If I were in charge around here, I would immediately ban all advertising of junk foods, sodas, snack foods, cigarettes, pharmaceuticals and other harmful substances. It's the only sane thing to do if we care about the future of our children. Of course, such advertising bans will never actually take place because corporations run the government. See my CounterThink Cartoon, Government of the People for a humorous depiction of this current state of affairs.

And as far as Pepsi's water brand goes, I think it should be renamed to AquaFib.
