Bad Cop is kicking it out with awesome intensity to their song 'Fried by Lightning'. It comes from the band's single Fried by Lightning and is also featured on Jeffrey Drag sampler found on the BandCamp site.

This week's Rock Clip of the Week' comes to us thanks to a pal on the Postal-Blowfish listserv I'm on. (Thanks, Doug!).

Here's an awesome clip of The Rolling Stones doing a live 'Jumpin Jack Flash' live in front of cameras, not an audience, sometime in 1968:

This looks like a type of promo clip done for the song back then. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas where it was shot? This is more of the types of clips that I want to see as the Stones mark 2013 as their 50th year of existence. More rare and rockin' material from the vaults!

Rock is Dead, They Say - Electric Daisy Carnival

EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is all the rave/rage lately, and the kids keep kicking it higher, with beats, squares, saws and drops. Skrillex won a Grammy, all the school kids are singing Party Rock, and every radio station in Phoenix seems to be pumping the new dance kids. Except for dull old KSLX which keeps playing its Foghat and Deep Purple rock n rolllllll!)

Last week saw the Electric Daisy Carnival play out in New Jersey to thousands of beats-loving kids, and Gawker was there to write about it in a piece called: "Dance Dance Dissolution: The Electric Daisy Carnival's Fresh Hell."

33 yr. old Rich Juswiak wrote:
"Just below the mainstream (and often perfectly happy to revel in it when allowed) is a strain of dance music referred to as "EDM," or "electronic dance music," a designation that signals very little at face value (since the ‘80s, the overwhelming majority of dance music has been electronic). But the label EDM does connote a specific style of aggressive thumping topped off with furiously trancey keyboards. Its downtime is just important as its pummeling – the music is in a constant state of flux between building up and breaking down with the aforementioned, strategically timed "drops" working as a time-release capsule. They're little jolts every few minutes to keep the crowd engaged."

And it's bigger than Coachella! And it's bigger than Bonnaroo! Gawker writes:

"The event publicist estimated that 100,000 people attended in total attended this weekend, and even conservatively, those numbers beat Bonnaroo's annual showing. Wikipedia says 600,000 people are expected for this year's Vegas EDC, which will be held June 8-10. That's 150 percent more bodies than Woodstock."

These concerts are probably a blast to be in the mix with - I GET the aural component, I love my chest to be hit with bass as much as the next guy or gal. Though I still wonder how a guy with turntables on a stage can command a crowd the way the old guitar warriors do. I don't see the visual aesthetic in play.

In the end, it all got to be a bit much for the Gawker writer, though he conceded:

"But I finally got it at EDC: these lyrics that command you to move, dance, get your hands up as the beat does exactly the same, are prescriptions for absolute focus on living in the moment. It's cheesy and trite, but it doesn't seem like bad advice at all."

The next Electric Daisy Carnival goes down in Las Vegas on June 8-10.

Black Sabbath - Live Show - Birmingham 2012

The early days of heavy metal are back, in the form of Black Sabbath's scaled back reunion.

After all the drama of Black Sabbath's guitarist Tony Iommi's medical battles with lymphoma, and drummer Bill Ward's contractual squabbles with the band, all was forgotten once Black Sabbath hit the stage in Birmingham, England for a hometown rock show that made things right with fans in attendance.

Youtube has loads of clips from the show - you could probably watch the whole Black Sabbath reunion show - here's the band's ending number 'Paranoid'

The band will soon play the only show on their planned European tour - the Download Festival - on June 10 in England. Singer Ozzy Osbourne will go on his own band's tour as Ozzy & Friends, featuring special guests like Slash, Zack Wylde and Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler.

Guided by Voices (live 2012) - Nelsonville (OH) Fest

Over the weekend, Guided by Voices played its first live show of 2012. It was just a local festival appearance in warmup of bigger dates over the summer (free show at Central Park, NYC on July 7) and autumn. See the tour dates below.

The much-admired indie rock band from Dayton, OH, played a boatload of new songs from the most recent GBV release "Let's Go Eat the Factory" and the upcoming "Class Clown Spots a UFO (available for pre-order at the link). See the full setlist below.

After years of rocking the heartland, John and Ted seem to share a brotherly, familiar look, right?

John Mellencamp opened his art show in Nashville, writes Rolling Stone.

"Nothing Like I Planned: The Art of John Mellencamp — a 49-painting, four-decade-spanning exhibition of his brushwork — runs through June 10th at the Tennessee State Museum.

And Uncle Ted is touring for the next two months with fellow midwestern 70s rock stalwarts Styx and REO. Here are the dates:

The Biters - Takin' Classic Glam, Punk and Rock to the US!

Whoosh! Rock 'n roll the way I like it is coming to the Valley in the form of The Biters.

The Biters

Never heard of 'em? Maybe you'll soon start to. The Biters (from Atlanta) play a revved up, guiter-heavy, poptastic, catchy and classic form of rock 'n roll that's being abandoned all too quickly around radio airwaves and indie rock stages around the country. The band is touring the rock-solid unit of frontman Tuk on Vox/Guitar; Matt on Guitar, Travis on Bass/Vox, and Joey on Drums/Percussion.

Call me a classicist (and maybe I am), but these guys are bringing back the sound of '70s rock excellence of yore, mashed with today's smart guy moves. And it works. If you missed out on yore the first time, well, dig back into YouTube and iTunes and find the bands that are referenced by The Biters below, and you'll probably just start to scratch the surface of their cool glam rock popishness.

In the video below, where the Biters do a killer cover of Cheap Trick's 1st LP smash hit "He's a Whore", lead guitarist-singer Tuk describes the band influences like this:
"We all love the early 70s Glam movement, like T. Rex, Slade, early Alice Cooper, golden-era Bowie and we all love the first wave of the punk movement. But we also love killer classic rock and powerpop - Big Star, Cheap Trick, Think Lizzy, Raspberries. So what I want to do is combine the punk attitude and punk ethic, with the musicanship and the balls of classic rock 'n roll and glam rock. I wanna bring that - show people bands like The Sweet, Slade, more hard-rockin' T. Rex...."

Beastie Boys' sales explode after MCA's weekend death

Sad as Beastie Boy Adam Yauch's passing last weekend from cancer after a three-year battle, even more sad is the realization that death sells records. ALOT.

Adam's death has prompted a sales explosion for Beastie Boys recordings on CDs and LPs, according to Billboard. The industry mag wrote:
"The band's 1986 album "Licensed to Ill" reenters the tally at No. 18 with 19,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan (up 802%). The blockbuster set reached the top on March 7, 1987 and spent seven straight weeks at No. 1. Beastie Boys' catalog of albums and songs saw a surge in sales in the tracking week that ended on May 6 (reflecting only two full days of sales after Yauch's passing). Collectively, the trio's albums sold 55,000 last week -- up 1,235% from 4,000 the previous week.“

55,000 albums sold! In a week! Wow! You think a Beasties' previously hoped-for full US tour with Yauch in good health could’ve turned out such a return? Doubtful.

No doubt a musician's death brings awareness to the group he or she was once linked to, but to the tune of 55,000 copies? Weren't these record buyers already fans of the band, and had copies of the Beastie Boys LPs and CDs already? Crazy!

Is there a message here for musicians? A jokester might suggest this:

– Wanna leave your bandmates better off than just quitting the band? Go kill yourself. No, Seriously. (tip to Bill Hicks).

Bob Mould's Sugar 'Copper Blue' 2012 dates

Aided and abetted by the awesome rhythm section of Jason Narducy and Jon Wurster, guitarist-singer-author Bob Mould continues to bring his old band Sugar's 'Copper Blue' LP to life in rock halls around the US and soon Europe.

The trio played SxSW in the spring, along with a few selected club dates. Now, they're bringing the Copper Blue feeling to Europe.
