Another in the ‘distracted‘ series. I took this shot a few weeks ago when I was photographing some of my dad’s tools (these are taps in case you wondered). I was so bummed when I saw it on a computer screen because it seemed cluttered.

I reshot to subject, using a bit of white paper to isolate the subject. I think this one is much better. I thought these resembled high-rise buildings in the middle of some city.

Converted to monochrome using Silver EFEX Pro using Kodak Tri-X 400TX Pro film emulation. I also used a 31mm extension tube to get in closer. A contribution to Macro Monday.

Executive summary: eliminate distracting items from the image before opening the shutter.

When I took this shot and converted it to monochrome, I was really excited. I thought the fence spires looked so cool in the late afternoon sun. I then realized how the vines distracted from the subject. Really, really distracting. Excitement waned (drum roll, cymbal crash).

Fortunately, the fence in question is about 3 minutes from my house, so a week later, I paid another visit to the scene of the crime and rearranged the vines to my liking. I like this one much more.

Both converted to monochrome using Silver EFEX pro. The one below uses Agfa APX Pro 100 film emulation.

I found this while roaming around Linfield Industrial Park, a large, abandonned industrial park about an hour from my home. My original plans were to visit the nearby Pennhurst Asylum, but there was a lot of deconstruction going on, so I had to pass.

I added some pop with HDR Efex Pro.

I’m driving home from work the other day and saw this great bumper sticker. My first inclination was to grab my cell phone and take a photo. Hmmm. bad idea. I waited until we got stuck at a traffic light which ensured I had enough time to take the photograph with my camera. Then I could get back to being a shitty driver.

Another barn in less than favorable shape, a few miles from my home. Seems the ventilation is pretty good. I added a punch of color added with HDR Efex Pro.

This is the top of a tool called an ‘inside caliper‘, which has been sitting in a tool chest, unused, for sometime. It is used to measure the inside diameter of something, like a tube. You adjust the tool to the correct diameter and use this tool to transfer the measurement to something else. A contribution to Macro Monday.

The full instrument is shown below. Interestingly (or oddly) enough, this looks strikingly similar to my employer’s logo.

I’m in to a pattern thing these days, if you haven’t noticed. I took a macro shot of circles embroidered on a pillow in our living room (here’s another). I thought it made for an interesting pattern.

Here’s another decorative pillow from our living room. The little squares are copper colored and offer a diffused reflection that I thought looked pretty interesting.

I was roaming around one of the construction sites for the 202 Parkway and came across this piece from a broken plate. It was late in the afternoon, hence the long shadows and warm light.

I converted to monochrome using Silver EFEX Pro and selectively colorized the flowers.

Another macro of a machine tool. I know it’s used to remove layers of wood or possibly metal, but I do not know the exact application.

Converted to monochrome with Silver EFEX Pro using Ilford Delta 100 Pro film emulation. I’m pretty sure I was using a 31mm extension tube with the 100mm macro lens. A contribution to Macro Monday.
