Only the main characters name has changed to Scorn, mainly because I don't remember what it was the first time around.<div><br /></div><div>The novel begans with Scorn having made it back to the States and living a quiet, somewhat paranoid life. You would be too if you were responsible for the disappearance of $45 million (street value) worth of pure cocaine and the vanishing of a suitcase containing $2.5 million.</div><div><br /></div><div>The American government has been watching him and a Costa Rican druglord has been searching for him. This novel picks up a few years later, and it feels like something is about to happen.</div><div><br /></div><div>Of course it is. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. The goal of the project is to write a 50,000 word novel in one month using the mantra 'quantity, not quality'. This is great for me because obviously I am no writer. I haven't written a tale of fiction in over 10 years (and I'm 25) so this is a whole different wave then I'm used to riding.<div><br /></div><div>Luckily for me, I don't think I really understand what I'm undertaking at the moment, but I love things that are quantifiable and keeping a running count of how many words I've written is right up my alley.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have kept several blogs in the past, the most notable of which was one I wrote while I was living in California and surfing every day that I could. In a one month period, I wrote over 50,000 words, but that is completely different from this undertaking.</div><div><br /></div><div>It's easy to write about yourself and the things you do. This, is, not.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have eyed the NaNoWriMo.org project for several years, I may have signed up one year, but never actually started. I'm determined to win it this year, my first real year of participation.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm in Boulder, Colorado, so if you live around here, perhaps we'll meet at one of the NaNoWriMo groups. Give me a shout, I'd love to read similar blogs about people trying to complete this project!</div><div><br /></div><div>My goal is to get an average of 1666 words per day, and so far I'm right on track. Yes, I know it is only day two, but at least I'm off to a good start.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have no plot, no idea where it's going, and my main charecter has already changed names several times, met three unique charecters that I'm not sure really fit into the story, has been attacked by an uzi-wielding Rabbi, accosted by a loud red-faced tourist, and received a mysterious message from a Costa Rican. And he has uttered only one line of dialogue.</div><div><br /></div><div>Is he the strong, silent type? Ha, I have no idea. It's been fun writing the story around him though where he has no idea what's going on, yet lots of stuff is happening around him.</div><div><br /></div><div>Am I in trouble yet? Oh for sure, Dre. This is going to get interesting.</div><div><br />When the month is done, I plan on having the novel printed so I can have it sit on my desk, next to my change jar, never to be read. It will be an excellent paper-weight, I'm sure.</div><div><br /></div><div>NaNoWriMo says don't proofread your first draft, so I'm applying the same advice to this blog. Be kind and please ignore my horrible writing and blatant grammatical/spelling errors. My novel is making less and less sense. Apparently the main charecter does random things with no planning at all. Two guys in a boat? Let's throw a rock and see what happens. Maybe he needs to be diagnosed with an illness that cause random pathways in his brain to connect so that my writing will make more sense.<div><br /></div><div>Maybe.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm up to 2,430 words so far, 721 today, 903 to go. Today.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm not sure how this novel will play out, no idea really, but I'm sure by 30,000 words, it will have devolved into complete and utter nonsense. Chaos.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'll be sitting here at my desk, asking myself, 'Ok, what can I throw into this adventure story that hasn't already happened... It took a little over an hour, but NaNoWriMo has officially started and I'm on my way!<br /><br />50,000 words over 30 days is roughly 1666 words per day, so I've got a little stockpile built up already, which should come in handy.<br /><br />My novel already makes no sense at all. There's a beach, a gringo, Tequila, a cryptic message to be delivered, and overall chaos and confusion. I'm pretty sure there will be a bar fight in the story tomorrow, from the way this is heading.<br /><br />I have no plot, no idea where the story is going, and no idea what I'm really writing about. But remember! The goal is quantity, not quality.<br /><br />I'd say for not having written a single fiction story in the past 10 years, I'm doing pretty good so far.<br /><br />I've got 43 extra words written. This should help me keep on track tomorrow since I won't have to write as much as I did today.<br /><br />Hahahaha!
