It has been some time that Maemo Community Released a stable version of CSSU (Community Seamless Software Update) which totally stable and will not risk a device reflash (Maybe). Guide: Updating and Downgrading Nitdroid Kernel

Hi N900 users. I saw lots of people doesnt know how to update their Nitdroid kernel as there is no automatic way of updating it via HAM. The only way to update it by using Xterm. But bear in mind that I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOU DEVICE OR LOSE YOU FILES.

If you read the warning correctly and still want to continue then see tutorial after the jump.
Before you start updating Nitdroid kernel first you should have Nitdroid installed. You have to download Nitdroid kernel from e-yes download folder. Latest kernel which e-yes released is rc7. Lets try to update kernel to rc7. You have to download rc7 kernel by clicking on this LINK. Copy downloaded file to MyDocs. Dont put it in any folder. Here is the tutorial for upgarding/downgrading:

Boot into Maemo and Open Xterm and Type:

root

cd /

mount /home /and

cd /and

dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_7-rc7_armel.deb (note that you can replace kernel name with the file you have downloaded)

wait for it to complete installation. when its done then its time to check multiboot.item file. typing:

leafpad /etc/multiboot.d/11*

it will open multiboot config file for nitdroid. if you use a sdcard and don't want to take it out while booting into Nitdroid then change the value of ITEM_DEVICE to like this.

ITEM_DEVICE=${INT_CARD}p2 (if the value is like this then dont change it)

and if you want to boot nitdroid without sd card in N900 then change it to like this:

ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p2 (0 means zero)

Guide Updating NItdroid to ICS

Hi. It is my first post to guide you people to something. Its been almost a week that a update for NITdroid release. Its Android 4.0.3 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Here is the guide to upgrade your Nitdroid. Remember one thing. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DO ANYTHING WRONG WITH YOUR DEVICE.

For updating Nitdroid, you should have installed nitdroid in your N900. Nitdroid ver 2.3.5 or 2.3.7. one of the two should be installed.

Here is the guide for updating:

First download this file n14_dev_snapshot.tar.bz2 from e-yes folder: Here is the link for e-yes folder. After downloading connect your N900 to pc and send n14 file to N900. Dont copy it to any folder. Here is the procedure for updating. Open Xterminal in Maemo and type:

root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d n14_dev_snapshot.tar.bz2 (let it to decompress archive after decompressing type)
cd /
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/n14_dev_snapshot.tar

After copying archive files to and folder is finished reboot your device and you'll have a rocking ICS on your device.

When you start ICS for the first time use it for few mins and give it a restart. At first run it runs cpu at its maximum speed (1150mhz) and at 80 to 100 %. restart it and it will be back to normal.

This that i have noticed installing ICS:
Superuser doesnt work. Means you cant underclock your device nor can make any changes to system core.
Camera Doesnt work.
Stability and speed is fine with N900 not evening having minimum ram that ICS wants to run.
Calls doesnt work.

Enjoy Upgrading saying again. I WILL NOT BE RESPOSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE.

Its obviously a big news for all N900 users who love to use Android in their beloved N900. So here is a big update for N900 users. Today i checked a video on youtube and saw something amazing. Something which i dreamed to be ported. It has been just 2 days that Ice Cream Sandwich source codes are released and now it has been ported to N900. Its not stable yet and very slow also.

Article: Nokia Files Another ITC Complaint Against Apple in US

Nokia has filed a new round of complaints against Apple with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and with a Delaware court, the Finnish phone maker said on Tuesday.

Nokia's latest complaints follow an initial determination in Nokia's earlier filing, announced by the ITC on Friday, which stated that Apple hadn't infringed on the five patents included in the case. Not surprisingly, Nokia disagrees with the ruling and is waiting to see the full details before deciding on the next steps in that case, according to a company statement.
Nokia's second ITC complaint includes seven patents related to multitasking, data synchronization, positioning, call quality, and the use of Bluetooth accessories, Nokia said.
In addition to the two ITC complaints, Nokia has filed cases on the same patents against Apple in Delaware. There are also more cases proceeding in Germany, the U.K. and the Netherlands, some of which will come to trial in the next few months.
The two companies have been fighting it out in courts around the world since October 2009, when Nokia filed a complaint against Apple with the U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleging that Apple's iPhone infringed on Nokia patents for GSM, UMTS and WLAN standards. Since then, the companies have filed a growing number of complaints against each other.
Apple and Nokia are far from the only ones suing each other over patents related to mobile devices. Earlier this month, Microsoft filed a lawsuit against bookseller Barnes & Noble, alleging that the Android-based Nook e-reader infringes on several Microsoft patents. On Friday, the ITC said it will review an earlier decision that found that Apple and Research In Motion did not infringe Kodak patents in their smartphones.
As the sales of smartphones, e-readers and tablets continue to grow, royalties are also becoming more valuable. If Kodak wins against Apple and RIM, the company may earn as much as US$1 billion in revenue, it reportedly said last week.

Article: Nokia to use Symbian and Windows together for long time

HELSINKI: Nokia said it will continue to sell smartphones using its legacy Symbian software for a long time after its first phones using Microsoft's Windows go on sale.

Symbian is due to be replaced by Microsoft's Windows Phone over the coming two years under a plan announced in February, raising concerns Nokia could drop Symbian phones -- which have lost market share, but generate strong profits -- too early.

"We will be selling (Symbian) devices long after Windows Phone devices from Nokia have already started to appear," Purnima Kochikar, head of developer relations at Nokia, said in an open letter developers, published late on Friday.

Nokia has promised to introduce its first models using Windows Phone platform at the latest in 2012.

Nokia didn't specify how long it would continue to offer Symbian.

Earlier this week research firm Ovum forecast that Symbian phones will continue on some markets into 2016. Kochikar said coming Symbian models would focus on strong integration of services, as well as have faster processors than so far in the Symbian product line.

"Over the past weeks we have been evaluating our Symbian roadmap and now feel confident we will have a strong portfolio of new products during our transition period -- i.e. 2011 and 2012," Kochikar said.

"They will also include improvements in hardware performance such as GHz+ processing capabilities and faster graphics speeds," she said.

Nokia's current top models, the N8 and the E7, use 680 MHz (megahertz) processors, while rivals top models already use 1 GHz (gigahertz) and faster processors.
