These people might have given up on me, but I wasn’t going to give up on them. If they

wouldn’t fight for their own survival, I would. Even if it meant my death in the end. One death

would nothing compared to millions of deaths.

“You obey his every command, don’t you?” I asked Lex as we neared the staircase that led

to the underground cells. “You have no trouble killing someone if Troum asks you to do it?”

He used his free hand to grip the back of my neck, pulling me closer to him. “I obey Troum

because he is the only person that can save us,” he whispered, his words sending a chill

throughout my body. “I don’t enjoy killing, but sometimes, there is no other choice.”

“There is always a choice,” I responded. “You seem to have forgotten that.”

We stopped before a metal door. Lex reached inside of his pocket and pulled out a silver

key, jamming it inside of the keyhole. He turned the knob and flung the door open. “Move it,” he

shoved his gun against my back. Once I inched inside, he removed the key from the lock and

shut the door behind us.

Aligning the wall were five holding cells, all empty except for one.

A small girl sat huddled in a corner, her legs pulled up beneath her chin. She looked no older

than twelve. “What crime could she have possibly committed?” I snapped. “She’s a child for

crying out loud!”

Lex chuckled beside me. “She seems to believe that she is entitled to freedom. Remind you

of anyone?” he asked.

I moved in closer to the cell, ignoring the fact that Lex was pulling on my cuffs. I ignored

the pain as the metal dug into my skin. I didn’t care. I needed to see her. The girl’s long blond

hair hung loosely over her face. “Who are you?” I asked, pressing my face against the bars.

She ignored me, turning to face the wall. Her body shook with terror, and I couldn’t blame

her; if she was down here in the cells, it meant that Troum had every intention of executing her.

“It’s going to be okay, “I whispered, hoping my words would calm her.

“Clove,” she croaked.

“What?” I asked.

“Clove. My name is Clove.” She ran her fingers through her hair, revealing her face. Her

hazel eyes were full of pain.

“Well, Clove, everything is going to be okay,” I said, offering a small smile.

“Don’t lie to the girl,” Lex said, pulling me away from the cell. “Come on, Taylen.”

"Wise ass." Sophie backed into the street before he could grab her. "I'll see you later!" she called. "I think Lon said something about meeting tomorrow morning and--hey!" She squawked off the last word as Lucas lifted her off the ground and onto his shoulder.

“Cut, cut cut!” Sawyer stood. “Was that supposed to be more passionate? Because it sucked.”

“This is supposed to be the eighteen hundreds,” Brynn said. “It can’t be too passionate or it would seem inappropriate for the time.”

The next instant Sawyer was charging up the steps to the stage. “I’m not saying it’s got to be a kiss with tongue, I’m saying you’ve got to look at each other like you’re in love so the audience will want it to work out. Our modern audience.” Sawyer shook his head. “Take it again, from before the proposal.”

Leo knelt, told her she was an angel. She said her line, trying to peer into his soul like she wanted to be with him, and then Leo kissed her. And it was sloppier than usual.

She did her best to not jerk back, though it was her first instinct.

“Okay, that was just…” Sawyer moved in front of her. He looked at the playbook, then lowered it by his side and stared into her eyes. The air thickened around them and she could feel every thump of her heart. “What a perfect angel you are, Cecily.” He said it so tenderly, his smile close-lipped but full of joy.

“You dear romantic boy,” she said, all out of instinct because thoughts were getting fuzzy.

He leaned in and kissed her, a soft kiss with his lips barely parted. The pressure of his lips increased for a delicious moment, and then they were gone. A quick, simple kiss, but when his mouth left hers, she felt its absence so strongly that she couldn’t think about anything else for a couple seconds. Her breath was stuck somewhere in her lungs and her lips still tingled, living the sensation over and over again. Heat wound through her body, her hands itched to reach out and touch him. And then she remembered she was supposed to. She ran her fingers through his hair and felt the whisper of his breath on her wrist as he exhaled.

“Wow, that was good,” Wendy said from the front, breaking Brynn from her trance.

Brynn stepped back and swallowed, but her throat wasn’t working right. Sawyer’s eyes never left hers, and one corner of his mouth curved up in a smug, self- satisfied way.

“It was all right, I suppose,” Brynn said, working to keep her voice steady. She crossed her arms and shrugged. “For a first-timer, anyway.”

That only made Sawyer’s smile grow wider.

Brynn couldn’t help but watch Sawyer as he jumped off the stage. Funny how she’d dreamed of kissing him all the time in high school, but her fantasy wasn’t even close to the real thing. Her heart felt like it’d just been wrung out and shoved back in her

Nicole Williams has written an exquisite love story that would ensemble a great contemporary novel. With highly emotional character and relatable story this one is a must read! She's now my favorite New Adult author!

I'm lost for words on how to properly start this review to be honest. I don't even know if I could give justice to this review but please bear with me on this one. To say this book is awesome and well written would be an understatement—It was more than that. I was brought into a world where each and every character is very much relatable and unique. The story is nothing but flawless, it would certainly keep you reading until the end... and will want more after that!

Lost and Found has a certain place in my heart together with those other contemps I've read and love. This book is definitely on my top ten list books I'd recommend to everyone I know. I mean this book is by far a good one and by that I mean it's great! I think everyone would love the story especially the characters. Williams has —without doubt —captured my heart with her memorable characters and this one is no exception.

Rowen and Jesse, what a lovely, raw and realistic characters that I had a pleasure of reading. The Walkers, Garth, Josie are most notable characters. They made this book like a family to me while reading it that I hate it to end. I have to give Rose the 'Mother of the Year' Award, she's been one supportive mother, I could hug her for eternity. She's one character that I totally admire, she has brought up her children really well and I acknowledge her for that. The 'Douche Bag' Award goes to Rowen's mother and boyfriend, you'll know why! I could strangle them and I think you'd do the same as well. Garth would have to be the dark horse, he's one character that's really dark I can't help but be intrigued by his personality. How I only wish there's a companion for this book centered around this dark and lavish character. I think there's more to him that meets the eye. The ensemble and mix of character made this book as good as it can be, Williams did a great job with character building that each and everyone can stand out on their own.

I did mention that this book is a New Adult title right? If not then I'm saying it now. With the sudden increase of New Adult on the market you can really tell that it's a genre to watch out for. This book is on the same genre and I could say that this one stands out. It's a perfect mix of emotion and sexuality, which I think is what compose the genre.

If there is a thing I could point out as a flaw - no I'm not a faultfinder - It would have to be the typographical errors. Judging that this is an advance readers copy I totally understand but I hope that it would be corrected and proof read before it gets publish. Other than that, the story, the characters... it's pretty much perfect!

Overall Lost & Found is recommended to EVERYONE! This is one book you shouldn't dare miss out reading. If you're a fan of Contemporary Romance or New Adult and is looking for a great story to read, I would have to say drop what you're currently reading and read this instead. Nicole Williams has written something that I think everyone deserves to read. It's a story that will make you believe in unconditional love and finding your true self.

First you'll fall in love with the story, second you'll fall in love with the characters and third you'll want to read more books by the author. You guys just have to read this one!

Article 5 is nothing like I expect it to be, I was brought into a world where military rules were heightened and law breaking is highly prohibited. Ember Miller our protagonist is under this predicament. She learn to survive and abide the rules set by the FBR. But when her mother got taken for the noncompliance of Article 5, she found herself in a situation where she has to decide to defy the rules and rescue her mother. But what if her only hope, is the one who arrested her mother?

Action, adventure and a pinch of romance... you should definitely read this book!

If you like your dystopian with some action and adventure this book is what you're looking for. The action just never stop, the adventure just keeps going and going until you'll find yourself engross with the pages. Not to discourage you from reading this one but I was kind of disappointed with this book, I think the action and adventure just didn't suit my reading palette. The world was established, defiance is expected from it and that's what the protagonist did which makes it predictable. If I'm going to be asked what's the difference of this book from other dystopian I guess I would say that the romance is one thing to highlight. Ember and Chase's relationship is complicated but in a good way. I didn't really get what kind of relation they have before but with the constant flash back of what really happened between them, I got a clear picture of what's Ember is to him and vice versa. Other than the never ending action and heart pounding scenes, I can't find anything that separates this book from other books I've read.

I did enjoy reading this one but I guess there's an element missing from this book that I'm looking for. I guess it's the substance and the overall moral of the story. I didn't really get why the story has to progress in a fast paced yet very disorienting kind of way not to mention quite vague. The story was quite a drag, there's so many stop over until the climax. But after the climax it boils down to a disappointing read.

Overall this book has got me on and off the hook but it's passable for readers looking for a good read. I guess I was just expecting more out of this book because of the genre. Though I did have a good time reading the adventure of Ember and Chase, the story just wasn't for me. The decision making of the characters and the story was quite a drag that it was quite intolerable at times. If you're looking for something to read with action and adventure in it, this book is totally recommended. Please don't be dissuaded on reading this book. We all have different kind of viewpoint for each book we read. Who knows this one might surprise you. Read this one if you get a chance!

Two actors on the lot has auditioned for a role in Divergent - Breton for the role of Four and Ansel who I don't know who he auditioned for but landed the role of Caleb. Divergent movie is currently being shoot at Chicago.

As for my own opinion having read and loved The Fault in Our Stars

It's a tie between Brenton and Ansel.

Although I think everyone stands out on their own, I'd be happy who ever will be cast.

I just wish they do justice on this wonderfully written book.

“What’s your rank, baby blue eyes?” the guy asks, pushing off his cot and stalking toward the prince. Everything in me screams to act, but I don’t want to declare alliances this early on. Not without understanding the dynamic of placements and bonds already formed among these people. But I’ll not let this hulk of a man harm the prince. I brace my heel against the wall, ready to push off and lunge. Prince Caben rises to his feet, slowly turning to face him. He straightens his spine, squaring his shoulders. “I don’t have one. And my name is Payne. Not ‘baby blue eyes’, meathead.” Big guy laughs, his husky voice bounces off the rock walls. “I’m Crew”—he beats his chest hard once, like a barbarian—“and I’ve won three fights. I’ll win the next two and be the one awarded the freedom ring.” He leans down toward Prince Caben, leveling their faces. “So don’t even think about you or your princess over there walking out of here. I’m ranked as a Colossal. The strongest Colossal in Bax’s league.” Princess? I nearly scoff. Then I realize what the problem with Crew is: he feels threatened by Prince Caben. That revelation almost makes me laugh out right. What does a big stack of muscles like Crew have to fear from the prince? The other prisons slowly circle around the stand-off in the center of the cell. Tension thickens the musty air. It coils around my spine, tightening my muscles. If I allow the fight to continue without interruption, will the guards stop it? They’d want their fighters in pristine shape, wouldn’t they? Prince Caben doesn’t back away from Crew. Instead, he moves into his space. I roll my eyes. Stupid, conceited man. “Freedom ring?” the prince questions. “As in, there’s a chance to leave?” He rubs his chin, and I notice the dark shadow of facial hair that has darkened his features overnight. “Is there a season that has to be won, or can someone gain five wins during their entire imprisonment?” Crew’s eyebrows pinch together. He’s clearly despondent that he hasn’t succeeded in intimidating the prince. “We’re in a season right now, you weakling. If you don’t win—you’re dead. Which by the looks of you, will happen in your first match.” Prince Caben nods, as if he’s simply piecing together a jigsaw puzzle and not being told of his demise. “What is the cuff for?” He points to the iron clamp around Crew’s wrist. “It’s our biometric monitor.” Crew shoves the cuff up close to the prince’s face. “See those three blue lights? Those are my wins. When the fifth lights up, I’m outta’ here.” “Has anyone ever won the freedom ring before?” Prince Caben asks. Crew’s massive arms tremble. “No,” he grinds out. “But I will.” He cocks his cuffed hand back, then sends a blow to Prince Caben’s chin. Hell. I’m up and racing across the cell before the prince hits the ground. Crew spots me from his peripheral. He turns and swipes the air. I duck, roll, and come up behind him. I jump on the cot and leap onto his back. “You squirrely little ...” he mumbles, trying to reach over his shoulders to get a hold on me. Tightening my arms around his thick neck, I squeeze. He gasps for air, and rams my back into the wall. I wheeze as the air whooshes from my lungs, pain splintering through my already bruised chest. But I hold tight, bearing down harder, and cut off his supply of oxygen. Finally, I feel Crew weaken beneath my hold. He drops to his knees, and I only release him once I’m sure he’s knocked out. Stepping around the now limp Crew, I glance at all the wide eyes studying me, and meet the prince’s. Fury ignites his stormy blue irises. He picks himself off the floor and heads toward one of the side chambers, throwing the tattered material aside as he stalks inside. I follow after him. When I step inside the tiny, dank room, my eyes trail Prince Caben as he paces. He reaches each side of the small chamber with three quick strides. Back and forth. On his third round, I open my mouth and get out a single syllable before he holds up a hand, halting me. He drives his hand through his dark hair. “Thank you for making me look like a spineless jerk.” He shakes his head and faces me. Taken aback, I say, “This is my duty to protect—” “No. In your country it was your duty to guard me. In my world and here”—he opens his arms wide—“a man fights his own battles. He does not depend on a woman to fight them for him. You just disgraced me.” Fire simmers in my core. “I’m still assigned as your protector no matter what realm we inhabit, Your High—” I stop myself before addressing him by title out of habit. “Your pride is polluting your reasoning.” He laughs. “Yes, well. Thanks to your show out there, I no longer have my pride to worry about.”

HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY!!!

I can't believe it's already 2 years since this blog has started and it's been really great knowing people through reading and blogging. When 'we' started this blog our main goal was to share our thoughts on the books we just read, want to read and will read. Now after 2 years we have learn to share the love of reading by highlighting books and interviewing budding authors and sharing more of our thoughts.

As a reader and reviewer I've learned so many things, I've learn to love what I do. It was really hard to share your thoughts on books you didn't like at first but I've learned that everyone has their own opinion and for that I respect them.

Getting to know more authors and books has been a great deal for this blog as well. I never thought I'd get to love indies as much as I love them now. Some of my favorite books as of late has been written by indie authors and for that I thank them. To all the authors that we featured and the tour host who gives their time and dedication on scheduling tours thank you for letting us be part of them.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

First and foremost I would like to tell the readers that this book is neither Young Adult or New Adult, I would consider this as Adult Contemporary. The content and story is of the adult genre. It is extremely sexual and hot, so if you don't normally read from the genre at least you know what you're reading if you decide to pick this one up.

Now isn't this book very visual or should I say graphic? I was instantly drawn in from the start to say the least, it was fast paced and completely addictive! I could have finished this book in one sitting, it was that good. Should I dare say how hot the scenes were? Oh yes they were definitely hot! I could say that I totally enjoyed it.

I think it's too late to say this but I was actually shocked on how descriptive this book is. I think the right term would have to be 'play by play'. But despite the hotness and raunchiness this book has to offer, I would have to say that it failed with the characterization part. I like the story, I was just slightly disappointed with the characters for some reason. I couldn't say that Brooke isn't a relatable character because promise me if you were in her position you'd definitely do the things she's done. What turned me off would have to be her dialogues, her thoughts went a wee bit overboard much to say over acted. It was a test of feminism in her part but who could resist a seemingly perfect man who has the hots for you? She tries to be professional but I think Remington got the best of her, she can't hide her feelings well enough. Remington I could say is... too good to be perfect, I mean really. He was well described to be the hottest person on earth in which I say is too good to be true. But Brooke and Remington's connection is definitely undeniable from start to finish. In the end I think it was played well, both character deserves to be happy.

Though I did like the story, I was constantly looking for something to actually surprise me. I was half thinking what will happen next because I'm not seeing any conflict from the start. And then when it was brought to my attention that the conflict is actually one of the character I would say I was a little bit surprised. The kind of surprise where you say that I knew it!

Overall this book is titillating and hot on its own way, I was definitely hooked and couldn't put it down. If you're looking for a swoon worthy hot guy to read this book is one to read. It was a good read despite the obvious flaw. I would definitely recommend you this book if you read the adult genre, it was descriptively hot!

SNEAK PEEK of ECHO...

A metal plate occupied the wall to the right of the door. Loken pressed his hand to it. The door slid away and disappeared into the left side of the doorway. Loken stepped through and down the stairs on the other side. His footsteps clanged against the metal steps as he descended.

Unlike in the overly bright training room on the other side of the building, dim lights filled this room with shadows. The team clustered at the bottom of the steps, blocking my view. As they shuffled slowly out of the way, I caught sight of what had stopped everyone else in their tracks.

A glass wall separated us from what looked like a large cell. The only entry point into the cell was another thick metal door with a security pad next to it. Behind the glass, three people stood as far away from one another as they could possibly get within the enclosed space: a hugely tall man, a woman with blond hair that hung past her waist, and a smaller man. All three were nude.

They looked human but . . . wrong somehow. Despite their lack of clothing, they made no effort to cover themselves. The larger man’s muscles bulged in odd places. While the woman wasn’t as massive, her body was more toned than any woman I’d ever met, more so than even Elder Ethereal.

From across the room, their black eyes cut through the darkness. A chill raced up and down my back like icy fingertips.

I stared at the smaller man. His eyes bore through me. I wondered if he saw me at all, or if he just happened to be looking where I was standing. At first glance, I’d thought him to be relatively slight. Although the other man dwarfed him, his thin arms were as tight as a predator’s, coiled to strike. The sharp planes of his face only emphasized the eerie black of his eyes, sunken into their sockets.

Loken’s voice startled me from the man’s hypnotic gaze. “In case you haven’t guessed it, these three are—”

The people I talked to: Shailene Woodley (Tris), Theo James (Four), Jai Courtney (Eric), Christian Madsen (Al), Miles Teller (Peter), Ben Lamb (Edward), Ben Lloyd Hughes (Will), Zoe Kravitz (Christina), Amy Newbold (Molly). Basically, the whole Dauntless gang.

Now, to address something else-- the issue of Uriah. Some of you may have heard, and some may not, that Uriah won't be cast until the second movie, if we are fortunate enough to make another one. It is understandably disappointing when a favorite character doesn't make it on screen. However, what I do think is encouraging is that the people working on the movie are taking the role of Uriah so seriously and taking so much care to get him right.

I haven't done this feature for awhile since I've been really busy with school and stuff but I'm back! Here's another edition of Playlist Monday (Tuesday actually sorry for the late post!).

“Betrayal, Lies & Love” ALLEGIANCE SWORN Playlist

I love music. There’s nothing that beat listening to a good song, the volume loud enough to be felt through your whole body but when I’m writing I prefer silence. I need to see the characters, the setting, like a movie running through my head. And like a movie, the soundtrack comes after I’ve finished writing the story.

Once I know the characters and the themes of the plot I find myself listening to songs or paying attention to the lyrics and matching them up.

An ALLEGIANCE SWORN, my latest release, Arek and Imhara – the hero and heroine – are enemies turned lovers. The story is darker and grittier in content than the previous two in the Light Blade series.

It’s still a romance but it’s a hard fought, angst ridden, life-changing story – for Arek and Imhara, and those they’re sworn to protect. Their perceptions, beliefs and goals are challenged by events. Their thinking and actions have to change, for the greater good, and the path their personal journeys take are nothing like they envisaged. Betrayal, revenge, hatred, prejudice, lies, truth and choice are all issues or hurdles both of them need to confront - especially since they’re forced by circumstance to trust one another.

It’s funny how certain songs can be inspiration or reflect what happens in a story. Sometimes it’s the lyrics, sometimes the mood evoked by the piece. I’d like to share five songs that would make up a play-list for ALLEGIANCE SWORN.

The lyrics in this song speak to one lover being hurt by another but it also deals with the emotional effects of betrayal, something both Arek and Imhara have gone through. The leader of her race assassinated Imhara’s family while Arek discovered he’s been lied to all his life by the one man he loved and respected, his grandfather.

Arek & Imhara are enemies turned lovers in ALLEGIANCE SWORN. Arek is physically attracted to Imhara from the first time he sees her but he hates all things demon so he does everything in his power to resist that primal attraction. Of course, he fails, and the sparks fly!

This is definitely Imhara’s song. Savyr, the demon king assassinates her family to gain control of her territory and a route into human territory that would give him an advantage in the war against humans. But Imhara survives and spends the next five years fighting plotting revenge to ensure the survival of her people.

Trusting someone you love only to find out they’ve betrayed you and the heartache that follows certainly applies to Arek. While the song focuses on a couple or lovers, Arek loses his innocence and has his world ripped apart by Davyn, his grandfather, the man who raised him from childhood. The warrior conspires with others to keep secret the history of humans and demons, and also covers up the fact Annika, a Na’Chi woman brought before the Council, is his half-sister. Davyn’s collective actions betray everything Arek has been brought up to believe and questions the events that have shaped his life.

Another song with lyrics that resonate. Arek is human. Imhara is Na’Reish. Her Clan is made up of humans, Na’Reish and Na’Chi (a hybrid race of human and demon blood). Demons and humans have been at war for nearly 500years and both hate the Na’Chi. Imhara’s Clan lives by the Old Wys, this means they accept all three races and don’t enslave humans or kill the Na’Chi. This song encourages people to combat prejudice, to embrace our differences and live in peace with one another.

Author Interview with Julia Tagliere

Tell us a bit about your family. My husband and I have been blessed with three clever, wonderful children who never fail to challenge, entertain, and humble us. We also have a four-year-old Weimaraner who, though not particularly clever, is especially entertaining.

What is your favorite quality about yourself? Kindness.

What is your least favorite quality about yourself?Impatience.

What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why? “Never, never, never give up.” Winston Churchill Does it really need explanation?

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?That would be a 3-way tie: raising my children, publishing my book, and becoming fit enough to run 10K races each year for my favorite charity, the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

What is your favorite color? The color of the sky at dusk and dawn.

What is your favorite food? If it’s not Lindt chocolate truffles, it’s the four-cheese risotto at La Notte, near Chicago, Illinois. Out of this world.

What’s your favorite place in the entire world? I love the beach: any beach, anywhere—must have something to do with being a landlocked Midwesterner most of my life.

How has your upbringing influenced your writing? My mother was an English teacher and my brother is also a writer; I was surrounded by books growing up.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in writing, so it’s hard to fix a point of origin—maybe in the womb?

When and why did you begin writing? I started writing when I was very young, awful poems and song lyrics, mostly to try to work through some difficult experiences happening in my childhood: my parents divorcing, multiple moves, and my grandfather’s death. The more I wrote, however, the less focused on reality my writing became; I eventually settled into fiction, imagining different worlds for myself. I guess at its heart, it began as escapism.

How long have you been writing? It makes me feel old to say this, but it’s been about thirty years.

When did you first know you could be a writer? That’s been a process of stages, but there are some moments that stand out in my mind: being accepted into the M.F.A. in creative writing program at DePaul University; having my first article published inThe Writer magazine—those were psychological game-changers.

What inspires you to write and why? Virtually everything I write, at least my fiction, stems from my asking the same question: What if? I think the only fiction piece I’ve ever written that didn’t originate from that question was a recounting of an actual nightmare I had (“There Is Only Room Here for Myself”).

What genre are you most comfortable writing? I consider myself pretty versatile, so I guess it’s easier to say what genre I’m least comfortable with—that’d be romance. My attempts in that genre are laughable at best.

What Inspired Me to Write My Book

Readers often ask fiction writers, “How much of your book is real, based upon people you really know or things that really happened to you?” I’ve had many readers of Widow Woman ask me those questions already, and I always give the same answer: my book was inspired by some real people and some real events, but it is entirely a work of fiction.

“Inspired by” is a tricky term. In my case, that expression takes me back to my childhood, a time when my newly-single mother was faced with the prospect of raising four children. Fortunately for her, and for us kids, she had a vibrant, strong, amazing group of women friends to support her. Whenever I think about that time in my life, I always think of fun, laughter, and above all, a sense of warm, familial kinship. But, as all kids do, I grew up. I went to college, moved away, and started my own life. I lost contact with those women, though I never lost those memories.

I learned after my mother’s death that two of those women, even as far back as those sunny days of my childhood, were lesbians—in fact, a number of her friends were. The knowledge took me by surprise; it had never occurred to me, ever, to think of them in such a light. I wondered what their children, all grown up now, too, thought when they learned about their moms. When did they find out? Had they always known? Were they shocked? Were they confused?

Did it even matter?

Those questions swirled around in my mind, mingling with my grief over my mother’s passing. In the months that followed, another question began tickling away at my writer’s mind—what if?

What if a young woman found out after her mother’s death that her mother had been a lesbian and had never told her? How would that feel? Would it change how she felt about her mother, about herself, about relationships, about love? The more I thought about those questions, the more I wanted to explore the answers to them.

The last few years have seen a terrific explosion in our culture’s comfort level with talking about gay and lesbian relationships. When I was growing up, people like Rock Hudson were still going to terrific lengths to hide their sexual orientation; I’m of a generation that remembers the seismic cultural shock for mainstream America when Ellen DeGeneres came out. We are more open as a society today than we ever have been before, but there are still so many people out there who react with fear and ignorance, as my main character initially does. I wanted to explore why those reactions still happen, the roots for them. I wanted to make people think about what is at the heart of all relationships—gay or straight. It’s love, pure and simple.

That’s what inspired me to write my book.
