The new year is here, and we return to a tradition we started six years ago. Following up our own best of 2025 here at Igloo, we’ve gone back to the shelves to choose the best albums and references from the last twelve months. As is our other tradition, the rules of the last twelve months are slightly bent. Most of our selection was released in 2025, by labels such as Library of the Occult, Clone, R.A.N.D. Muzik, Unusual Systems, Who is Paula, and Warp Records. We have reissues, classics by Aphex Twin and Sabres of Paradise, alongside gems we found last year.

Like Caja Roja, lots of magic with tradition from the headquarters of WE FORFEIT. Thanks to everyone who listened in 2025, and we continue with more enthusiasm and less common sense in 2026!

Acid ambient to techno bliss

This month, we have a two hour recording of a session of over four hours that I did with a good friend and a great musician; Paul Smith better known as Leonid. We had the pleasure of sharing the booth again, this time at Nuevo Montacargas. Leonid is an Irish producer who has been based in Madrid for a few years now. If he is not releasing records on labels like Statik Entertainment, Sistrum Recordings, Dolly Records, Lunar Disko Records, Photic Fields, Freebeat, Eleve, D1 Recordings and more, Leonid is playing in the best places in Europe like Berghain (Berlin), Tresor (Berlin) and more clubs in France, Croatia, Greece, Spain and of course Ireland.

This two hour session is focused on styles such as acid ambient, bleep, electro, house and techno with the softer side of these genres explored from the booth. No tracklist for this one, just some cracking music from artists like Cignol, E.R.P., and Steve Tang from labels like Down Low Music, M>O>S and Furthur Electronix.

Electronic music pioneer Ed Upton, aka DMX Krew, has been shaping underground sounds for over three decades. In this interview, he reflects on his early days, musical evolution, and the inspiration behind his new album No Way To Control It.

Ed Upton has been at the cutting edge of electronic music for more than thirty years. Under monikers like Computer Rockers, DMX Krew, and EDMX (to name just a few), Upton has produced everything from acid to wave on pioneering labels such as Hypercolour, Rephlex, and Shipwrec.

I caught up with Ed just before the summer, in between gigs he was playing across Europe and ahead of the release of his new album.

In our conversation, we trace the beginnings of his unique musical journey. We revisit the early days when the DMX Krew sound was first developing. We explore his initial techno experiments on DAP and how the prolific producer pivoted to synth-pop after signing with Rephlex Records in his early twenties.

Accompanied by his music, we journey through an impressively diverse and distinctive career. We delve into the halcyon days of London’s rave scene and the heady excitement of that era. Upton reflects on his musical evolution—from founding his own label, Breakin’ Records, to pursuing starkly different sonic paths with the cold electro of The Collapse of the Wave Function.

At the heart of the interview is DMX Krew’s new album, No Way To Control It, set for release on Shipwrec. A selection of tracks is presented exclusively, with Ed sharing their influences and origins. From frigid electro-funk to gritty industrial textures and into understated abstraction, this new album captures the essence of an artist continually exploring new creative directions.

What are you doing? An intimate evening with your better half? I’ll be there. Alone with the kitty and the wall? Me too. Bus? Car? Train? Count me in. Turn us on and we are with you, and of course we understand you and sympathize with you; we are you! We Forfeit!

After the break, we’re back with a crippling tradition at the HQ, our favourite tracks of 2024. For two hours we have twenty-fivepieces from the last twelve months with styles including acid, breaks, electro, italo, techno, synth and much more. We hope ya love em as much as we do, we are sure you will as we are you.

The return to Radio Relativa marks our 50th installment. Quite the milestone. The half formed memories and hours of television missed, the joys one hundred hours spent trying to put a sentence together alongside a mix.

In all seriousness, or some shade of it, we’re delighted to have reached such a number and are back in the entrenched bowels of tradition to bring you some real gems.

Recorded in June 2024, this was a seriously hot and sweaty affair. The mercury read thirty five and the inside of the studio was even more. Perservering, we had a guest very close to our hearts. For the third time, we ended our season with our good mate, a selector from Asturias with many years of experience in the booth; we finish with Mora.

As the Spring draws in, the music keeps flowing here at WE FORFEIT. For this month, we have a label we love. We have Gated Recordings. Founded in 2019 by DJ Node and Jadey Smith, Gated has become an imprint of serious intent in the world of electronic music.

This month, we’ve been lucky enough to speak with one the bosses of Gated, Node, about the imprint and what makes him tick. In a conversation that reveals all, and then some, we go back through the Gated catalog and pick out some personal favorties from artists like Sound Synthesis, The Jaffa Kid and Dip Shim.

In the second hour, Node takes the helm with a mix of serious proportions with gems from acid, breakbeat, electro and loads more. Expect unreleased material as well as tracks from Acidulant, Cityman Productions, and Wave Function.

It’s been a month of loadsa music

Afew weeks back, we were lucky enough to share the booth with the always excellent Neud Photo. Robbie hopped on the train and made it by the skin of his teeth to Luv Bar where the pair served some a cocktail of electro, new beat and even some Italo. In this month’s show we’ve some tracks that were in the bag for Barcelona, but time said otherwise. Gems from Aleksi Perälä, Jared Wilson, Featherstone and Obsolete Music Technology are just a handful them. Thanks to both Nico and Luv Bar for making it happen.

Rendezvous abound in this episode, meetings with ArD2 in Granada (alongside fights with record store owners, dancing in The Hague at the IFM festival with a great gang, all of these interactions are charted through tracks by Heinrich Mueller, Tandy Ogmo, and Body Power.

A veritable glut of new music is included in this month’s show, tracks from far and wide. Homegrown talents features prominently. 22 Recordings are here with three tracks of new beat scented chicanery and Valencia’s Fill-Ex and Soil with the haunting Grendel version of Beastial Mouth’s “In Ruins.” Pearls of The Netherlands’ house and techno scene of the 90s are dusted down, Anacalypto Records doing the heavy lifting with a fantastic compilation with two tracks selected. The holiday season is upon us. The cold has arrived on Madrid’s city streets and to combat it WE FORFEIT have gathered together two hours of sizzling electronics to warm the cockles. Ryan James Ford takes centre stage on this show with four of his tracks in the mix; a serious talent and one we’ll be after in the future, I’m sure. Crème Organization is well-represented this month with the some beauts care of Iv/An, Fabio Monesi and TX Connect. To combat the heat, we’ve dug into the electro shelves of The Netherlands with Klakson, Frustrated Funk and Shipwrec. When it comes to music, a certain furrowed brow of seriousness is employed. Through our shows, interviews and mixes, we’ve tried to present electronics with a difference, electronics that make a difference. To the snowy peaks of Canada with Solvent, to the dusty plains of Almería with Mynationshit, our objective is giving a greater audience to what is already great. This month is no exception.

Travelling even further, the furthest in fact, this month is dedicated to Featherstone. This Australian artist, a talent that has graced labels like Gated Recordings, Nebulae and his own Ernest’s Way. He has a full hour long mix that collects acid, braindance, electro and techno while giving you some of his own unreleased works. Fantastic stuff and thanks Ben.

The cold clinical stare of the lost and left behind

The cruel Summer heat of Madrid is receding. The gentle breeze of Autumn brings with it a refreshing sense of possibility, the dappled light shimmering with a childlike optimism. Here, at WE FORFEIT, we put optimism out of its misery a long time ago; instead, we eyeball reality with the cold clinical stare of the lost and left behind.

Deep digging into the seven-inch shoebox

Ashow that’s been in the making for well over two decades, two hours dedicated to the most minute of the vinyl formats: seven inches! Robbie goes deep digging into the seven-inch shoebox and comes up with a glut of gold from far and wide. We get started in and around the year 2000, and revisit the turn of the millennium throughout this episode. The perverse world of V/Vm gets the platter spinning, the lager and fag ash stained “Rompford Rap” followed by some proper blip hop from Kid606 before Planet Mu sevens from Venetian Snares and o9.

Softer tones abound in this show with warm clicks and gentle electronics from Isan and Geiom. In a similar vein, Lowfish and the superb Skanfrom are well represented with some quality tracks from imprints like A.D.S.R. and Awkward Silence.

Heavier electro offerings arrive care of The Exaltics and The Suiciders. Much of this transmission is dedicated to a favorite genre of the seven inch format, synthwave. Gems from labels like Anna Logue, Genetic Music and Kernkrach shine with well crafted works of tear jerker machine pop. Never ones to shy away from some Italo Disco, Fake and Transport both feature for some mid 80s joy. The close is a shout out to our good pal Mark and a favorite of his from Nervous Assistant on Blind Prophet.

Dipping into the past

This episode of We Forfeit was originally aired in November of 2023, when the clouds of winter were gathering. Fast forward half a year and the sun is splitting the stones here in Madrid. Splitting our speakers, and hopefully yours, are some true acid techno tearaways from Finland care of Boneless One, Helium and Sex Voltage. Calmer, arguably sunnier, moments come from Italo disco to cut through the bitter tang of our nordic contributions. Dipping into the past, with a clear eye on the future of course, we have Cold Blow Records and the excellent R.A.N.D. Muzik before donning our mascara for the modern romantic movements of Hysterica Passio and new beat edge of Corp of Unusual Systems.

Staying in Madrid, Lowfish delivers the off-world elegance of “Thaw” before No Moon and uf0 breakbeats pull on heartstrings. Taking the reins, Chris is in the mix with some lancing electronics from the likes of Diffuse Reality, Gamma Intel, and Viicktory.

Where does time go? It dissolves into crystalline pools of mirroring aluminum, it retreats into shallow puddles of shame and joy. In our final instalment of this latest season, WE FORFEIT are digging deep into the collections to pluck out some old favorites, recent acquisitions and all-round top tracks.

Italo gets the ball rolling, as it does with many the night out. Techno is well represented with some beauts from Deniro, Gilbert, Oid and Sabre. Electro? Of course with Chris delivering some corkers care of Fabio Vinuesa, The Hacker and Ultradyne (to name but a few.) House is chewed up and spat out by John Heckle with other bangers to keep the mind racing.

June 15, 2023 — With the cruelest of Madrid’s heat yet to come, three bags of records were packed for a back to back session that guaranteed backs would be left slick with sweat. Fellow Irishman, Leonid, is no stranger to the DJ booth in Madrid. When not playing in the finest establishments the Spanish capital has to offer, Paul Smith is crafting electronic music for labels like Sistrum, Lunar Disko and, most recently, Ethos.

Another figure of the Madrid music scene, Mora is one of the brains behind the legendary Zodiac nights. On hot nights with sticky floors, he has held his own while sharing turntables with the likes of Intergalactic Gary, Mick Wills and many more

A smorgasbord of vinyl treats is on offer, served from the dripping fingertips of Robbie, Miguel and Paul. Hard to get a track list together for this, bit of cobbling will be attempted as there are some real beauts in here. Drvg Cvltvre performed his final live set at the legendary Killing Time (March, 2023). A rare talent, this hardware junkie has been drawn deep into the dark and brooding recesses of his machines. With releases on the likes of Bunker, Shipwrec and Viewlexx, this infamous figure has been central in the West Coast sound of Holland whilst exploring new plains on his own New York Haunted.

Accompanying Robbie and Chris in the cabin were some heavyweights. Ruben Rodrigo of La Carbonero and Slokto of Syntax Electronix fame will be spinning some serious slammers with the head honcho David Verdeguer opening the night.

Tough year, seems to be the mantra of life there days. Nevertheless, the lads bury the spike of reality with a selection of nourishing sounds that guarantee to warm away the horrors staring back at you. Robbie starts us off with some beauts care of the always excellent Heinrich Dressel and his silken synth work. Synths are the focus for Mothball’s Ash in October with Galaxian offering some electro commentary on levers of power. The atmospherics of Ard Bit lead into the the wizardry of John Beltran before we hit the floor. Mr Ho & Mogwaa and their upbeat “Bail-E” are countered with the caustic electronics of Sound Synthesis and knob jerks of PQ17 on the freshly minted Unusual Transmission.

The broken beat bandwagon is boarded for the superb Kanyalang! with Spain’s Black Quasar scaling peaks with Negative Glitch. We stay with Black Quasar and Existential Wabbit, resurfacing with Nebulae elegance and Delayscape’s delicate “Baffled Cry.”

A constant source of inspiration for us at WE FORFEIT is De:tuned, the Belgian label once again setting the bar incredibly high in 2022. Two tracks, care of legends Stasis and Nuron, had to make the selection, and do!

Chris takes the wheel with cracking pieces from our good pal DJ Sneaker, the unmissable Cignol, on HC Records, and the hard hitting Hard Ton on Schrödinger’s Box. Robbie returns with an 030303 gem of the last twelve months, Tom Gilbert and “Lucid Dream” mixed into the electro godfathers that are Morphology.
