Kicking down metaphorical doors ninja style this upcoming week of travel. Influential meetings+ art interviews mean that I will be fully pep talking myself repetitively for a bit. Breeeath. Give 'em no reason to say no! Feeling thrilled to have finally completed my violin as one of the ten finalists for The Painted Violin Project. Will be good fun to share soon. It is already feeling like summer to me so I'm enjoying my last bit wearing a sweater. Fully ready for snow-cones, my summer solo exhibit, road trips and turning all available lawn space into bits of a water park. x

View of the University of Chicago, Hyde Park

Chicago tends to relentlessly bring back a flood of memories. Had a jam packed weekend, most of which was spent at the University of Chicago and enjoying the randomly warm weather. Flushed from walking most of Hyde Park, I actually lasted about two hours wearing these shorts before changing into a pair of bright trousers and converse kicks. With two more travel dates to meet including sweat-inducing interviews, I am trying my best to juggle life out of a carry-on...Pretty much anyplace with an outlet and a hot meal has become my best mate. Hope wherever you are, you are lovely. x

Life is unexpected. That is the scary, horrifying, intriguing and mysterious nature of it all. What will happen in the next five minutes, tomorrow, and say two years from now? What little influencing action of yours manifested into a ripple effect within the context of your life? I believe many moments wouldn't happen without a previous seed planted. Push harder and work smarter today for tomorrow. Just a few of the thoughts playing in my head at the moment. A week of serious highs + serious reminders that life is very short. San Francisco is such a fantastic city! The architecture is cause for ridiculous inspiration. First arrived for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation's Heroes and Hearts. With my mind in a million different directions, it feels as if I've been living off of green tea and adrenaline. I'm very much excited to head to San Francisco next week for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation's Heroes and Hearts-lovely stuff! Back in Arizona and preparing for two upcoming Art walks this week (if you're in the Phoenix area please email me for info!). Running about looking for more display equipment and a few other proper tools. I seem to always fall into these Sale traps when out and about. I go out looking for something practical like a canvas stretcher and end up coming home with things like a tortilla press, flour sifter and other assorted cookware, which I blame on a certain someone who is a proper chef. I'm actually thinking about using the flour siftter to play with paint, but that would be a crime now wouldn't it chef? Fancy myself sifting paint more than flour honestly. Have a lovely start to the week-x

A few quick weekend snap snaps on the way to the snow (with more photos to come). Mastered the art of pizza making in the woods. Felt so good to finally be out in the middle of flipping nowhere where the stars collectively feel like a giant nightlight and the moon an epic flashlight. The country girl in me once more. S'mores and red wine. Classy. One more day on the slopes and then it's back to the city!

The long weekend turned into my sweetest escape. Lots of feel good food and much needed rest, laughter + relaxation. Feeling recharged and ready for the insanity of incoming February. Early thinking but the planner in me sees red deadlines yelling about from my calendar which is a good balance to the artist in me who sees nothing but sweetness in nomadic freedom + narcoleptic moments. This week is devoted to crossing a few must-do things off my deadline list before a ridiculously brilliant ski trip this wkend! Yesssss. Snow, ski lodge, fireplaces, my special someone, mountain terrain and the smell of pine. mMm. Snow bunnies unite! x

Birthday weekend spent with some of the most creative people I know in the city of coffee and panorama views, Seattle. Love the art scene here! Checked out a few epic projects that may have me fully exploring large outdoor installation work-pretty brilliant. Fully worth the short trip and has me more than geared up to head back to Vancouver next month....One lovely year wiser. Approaching 2012 with consistency in work and passion. Do what you love and leave the rest behind. Cannot wait to see where the next few months take me. x

Foodie Friday: Jamaican Escovitch

This is one of my favorite things for a chill night in as I'm all over anything with a bit of salt and a bit of vinegar. A consistent hit with fam & friends this dish is just the right amount of spice, acid and salt. Fully wishing I had leftovers just with this bit of re-living through the pics. If you like salt & vinegar potato chips or chips (fries) + malt vinegar you'll fancy this dish! Jamaican Cusine is delish. Enjoy!

Notes from the Kitchen:

-Rice is a key note for this dish as the salty bottom layer cuts the acid of veggies. I added an extra tablespoon of salt to my rice mix.

-5 cloves of chopped garlic were added to my Veggie mix. Yes, be sure you don't have a hot date in the next few hours.

-Served with seasoned black beans and mixed seasoned rice

-Free Range Snapper

Cheers to believing in Hallmark Holiday Movie narratives, fairytales, and happy endings. All of which mean turning off the depressing news for a bit and surrounding myself with friends + cocktails. Happy 2012! My New Years was incredibly romantic. The kind of night I'll be doodling squiggle hearts around for a bit. My resolution is to be fearless in love and cooking. I've a bucket list of recipes/foods I want to try so I'll be starting a "Good Food Friday or maybe Feast Friday?" weekly post….err still working on a name. x

Snapped on the way to Tucson, Arizona

Spent the past week in oversized mens shirts {which I call my work shirts} as a way to manage deliveries, wet paintings +errands simultaneously. They are easy to interchange and I tend to have several in my trunk at all times. Very grateful and appreciative to be able to live my passion. The small sacrifices like sleep, sanity and having everything you own covered in paint stains are small things to trade when you're standing in front of your completed work in a gallery space. We all want to feel fireworks and for me that moment is my fix. My addiction. The slightest recognition for your work is just icing on the tiniest of little cakes. Surrounding myself with dreamers, wishers and those of the romantic kind in the New Year. Wishing you all inconceivably brilliant fireworks. x

Stomping around in chunky layers and avoiding the random chill that has seemed to follow me from the Sierra Mountains to the desert. Cannot wait for the incoming holiday. Working hard to get a bit of a heads up on all of my deadlines in the first week of January so that I can have a bit of a mini vacation. Keeping my fingers crossed for my lovely Sis to come in from London as visa nightmares continue. (Too familiar with my nightmare travel of coming in from Edinburgh, Scotland for Christmas last year: here & here.) Regardless of the added wallet strain, travel catastrophes and intense grinch like crowds... I love this time of year. It brings out the best in people. Wishing you lots of Holiday sweetness. x

Participated in a local artwalk this week. Lovely turn out and being able to tell what feels like a series of conceptual metaphors about how a piece materialized is always fantastic. I'm a bit of a klutz so there are definitely equal amounts of random adventures mixed in. Speaking of, I'm nursing a bit of a cringe worthy scrapped knee thanks to a windy day and a large stack of canvases. I pretty much took flight across a parking lot. As you can imagine my landing was...reeeally lovely. O, yes! Looking forward to keeping both feet on the ground this weekend...that and fully blasting holiday flicks! x

Up in the Sierra mountains sketching bits 'n bobs for another project. Bundled up in chunky knits, thick wool and enjoying the snow...{More photos to come.} In the meantime I finally get to share the lovely 5ft, 400 pound project I have been working on for the last two months. Fully indulging in a bit of a battery recharge this weekend. With a series of three+hr trips up to Tucson, Arizona this week and a few more next week due to a collaboration, I plan to avoid cars in general for most of the weekend. A piece of mine is being exhibited at one of the University of Arizona art galleries so it was also brilliant to be able to finally make it in to see the full exhibit. Cheers to keep on keeping' on! Romantic stormy monsoon like weather is complimenting my need for R'nR. Hot chocolate sippin, excessive amounts of blankets and a fireplace are the only weekends necessities. And that feels amazing. x

Anyone go crazy for the Black Friday Sales? I somehow ended up with about a year++ supply of lotion, bath products and scrubs.…was fully caught up in the moment and am easily distracted by things that smell heavenly, {stay in bed all day} good. Least I'll have silky skin....for probably forever. Then I ended up vintage hunting for a few more pieces of jewelry. I find vintage to be very hit or miss and am pretty subjective clothing wise so I shocked myself when I pretty much cleared out my favorite resale/vintage store. This blazer and blouse were my fav finds. Color, no surprise there. I had a lovely meeting on Friday in the Arizona Art District and was kind of thrilled to be told I dress exactly like my work. One of those silly compliments that I'll be holding on to and steadily pressing repeat. x

Sunset: Carlsbad, CA

Felt good to force myself down to Carlsbad, CA for the weekend regardless of how comfy I'd gotten with the idea of snuggling in bed with my sketchbook. It was worth trading in my paintbrushes for a surfboard. Here for a few more days and enjoying being around brilliant friends, bonfires, ocean sunsets and remembering life outside of being a workaholic. Trying not to think about the madness that will be December..luckily homemade Sangria helps with that. {best recipie: Here} Refill anyone? Cheers. x

My 400 pound heart project was crated away Monday via an art ship company. It was a bit like what I'd imagine leaving your new born with a babysitter for the first time would be like {pretty much sends you into a sweat inducing panic.} Can't wait to meet up with my rendering in San Francisco soon. Enjoying a peaceful week mapping out my next series in-between pumpkin pie, playing with ice tea recipes and cuddles with my pup Winston. It doesn't get more PG than that. x

Arizona Cotton Fields

Spent the week stomping around in these comfy kicks. Feeling pretty brilliant because I'm one more coat of varnish from being all done with my 5ft, 400 pound heart/sculpture for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (Click.) {something I'll be able to officially share in December} Back breaking, finger bleeding work and very much the thing that overtook my life for the last two months but so absolutely worth it. Taking a step back and taking it all in is def when I feel like champagne popping is now a necessity....also perhaps a very, very {rip van winkle-ishly} long nap. Good Stuff. x

Spent the day in L.A. for a really brilliant project which allowed me to completely numb all the incoming deadlines flashing about in my head. Back to the hustle tomorrow with a road trip back to Palm Springs. Feeling pretty lovely about starting a commission and experimenting with some new techniques thanks to a brilliant present from the fantastic parentals...An air compressor. Yep, don't give me flowers, give me power tools. Although for the first time in longer than I'd like to admit I received roses from a sweetie. Southern gentlemans are now high up on the list, skyscraper high. x

Paradise Valley, Arizona: Sunset

One more day of mellow moments before leading myself into what will be my busiest week of November. Deadlines will countdown the next two weeks, highlighted in red all about my studio. I'm fully learning to balance it all in a namaste fashion. Leave the uncontrollables be {chakra}. A bit of travel for an Artists reception this week and then painting with the Arizona night as my muse. Sunsets in the desert are unmatched, it's our way of making up for the lack of leaves turning those staple colors associated with Autum. Instead of the oranges, reds and browns you'd find in fall leaves dotting the streets, you find them in the sky as if making for a bit of lovely compensation. x

Have a brilliant Halloween! I'm lucky to have my best-friend & mama who love doing the most ridiculous holiday things. Riding about all day on a "haunted" hayride, drinking spiked apple cider in a Cleopatra costume tops the list. Good bits! Hope you've got a lovely night prepared. Mine will be filled with too much candy, a celebration with friends in Palm Springs and Hocus Pocus on repeat, that's about as scary as I get in terms of movies. Hard at work this week with an an early November deadline looming in the distance. Pressure, that is the word hanging heavily in the air. Wore this to a gallery meeting mentioned in an earlier post and while running about town trying to get a centuries old record player working. Mission accomplished after several inquiries + hits and misses. Mr. Armstrong {my soulmate} will be crooning me while i work tonight. Nothing beats the seductive crackling spin of a churning record while dancing about with a paintbrush. That's that good stuff. x

Spent the week living in the hospital, as one of the people most precious to me had major surgery. My smothering and suffocating tendencies were repaid in good karma as a lovely someone ended up jumping a plane to come be sweet to me for the weekend. {Brilliant stuff} This life passes by fast, enjoy every moment. Looking forward to getting back to my nonexistent routine which includes a gallery meeting this week in Southern Arizona...feeling lovely about a good road trip and even lovelier about getting a full nights sleep in a proper bed. x
