July 11th, 2013 - It was my due date. I was 40 weeks pregnant and dreaming of my little girl arriving. Being the bored pregnant lady that I was, I spent most of my free time on Facebook... Which is how I saw the Kokadi TaiTai preorder being listed.

I couldn't resist. A half buckle made from a woven wrap for a fraction of the price normal wrap conversions go for?!

I bought it.

I knew that my baby would be at least 3 months old before I got it... I figured if I got it before her first birthday I'd be ok with that.

Well, it's finally here!

My first impression was that it's super soft and floppy. Literally. The body of this thing is not structured at all. The body panel is very thin. Probably thinner than any wrap I've ever felt. It's also on the short side. Tall babies might have a hard time with this one... I guess it's a good thing it also comes in a toddler size!

The mei tai straps are padded. Thicker than a BabyHawks, but thinner than a Tula.

The buckle waist is padded. I feel like the quality of the webbing and buckles are a little "cheaper" than the ones on my Tula. I also noticed how short the waist webbing is. I'm a size 12 on a good day... I had about 5" left to the end of the webbing. Plus sized mamas might have a hard time fitting this properly. :( Although the straps feel like they're extra long!

I love that you can cinch the body panel on these! It fits my 4 month old perfectly!

Over all I really like this one! It was super comfy to wear and even my tiny 4 month old was knee to knee in it. (She's not quite legs out in our Tula yet.) I like how "small" it felt on me. It didn't get in the way while we were playing at the park. I can't wait to try a back carry with it!

ETA: I did a back carry and loved it!

Wrapsody Stretch-Hybrid - Stella

I wore my first 3 babies in a stretchy wrap when they were tiny. I bought The Ultimate Baby Wrap when my oldest was little. It was my very first wrap and I loved it.

As you can imagine, it's pretty worn out by now...

With baby #4 I knew I wanted another stretchy wrap, but I really didn't want to get a plain Moby. While I was pregnant I fell in love with Stella! Stella is a stretch-hybrid which basically means it's sort of a cross between a stretchy wrap and a woven wrap.

I managed to find one of the very last ones still in stock.

I wore the heck out of this thing for the first 12 weeks of Ashlyn's life. I love how you can pre-tie it before leaving the house and just pop baby in when we went some where. It was like wearing a comfy old t-shirt. Ashlyn loved it.

Yup, she was pretty much always sleeping in it...

This was the last time we wore our Stella... It was a few weeks ago when she was 3.5 months old. Unfortunately it was starting to get saggy and I prefer my woven wraps for the support. If I ever have more babies (ya right!) I will definitely own another Wrapsody stretch-hybrid.

Squishy Newborn, part 2

First time in our Flamenco Hemp Indio. I just love this color!

Didymos Petrol Pfau - I'm so happy that I didn't actually sell this one! I had a brand new size 7 that was just too long for my liking. I posted for sale and ended up trading it for a broken in size 6.

Black Hemp Pfau ring sling

Purple Linen Indio 7 - a Birdie's Room exclusive. I keep debating whether or not to sell this one. I'm leaning towards chopping it and turning it into a ring sling.

First trip to the zoo! Only a few weeks old.

Lenny Lamb Sunset SBP ring sling. Bamboo/cotton blend. So soft and snuggly.

I traded my Kokadi Erna 4 for this Didymos Indio Fairy 3. It's the softest Indio I've ever felt! This carry is a front wrap cross carry tied in front.

Same wrap as above, tied in a slip knot.

Diamond Weave Double Rainbow Rojo weft SBP ring sling. I had this one sent in to sleeping baby productions myself and got it with a retro pleat. I like it better than her current pleats.

Wearing My 4th Newborn

Ashlyn was born mid July this year and she's the first baby that I was able to gather a newborn stash for. I actually still have 2 carriers I'm waiting on that were ordered while I was still pregnant with her.

Happy BIRTHday, Miss Ashlyn!

Even though I brought a few carriers with me to the hospital I ended up not using any while we were there. I spent most of the time on the bed nursing her. She also had to spend a good 15 hours on a bilibed for her jaundice. So we waited til we were home for our first carry.

First time ever in a ring sling! (Girasol Romantique - Gathered Shoulder. I no longer have this one. Sold it to a local mama.) She was only a few days old and instantly fell asleep every time I wore her.

The next carrier we tried on together was our Wraposdy Stretch-Hybrid Stella.

Here's a few others we loved in those first few weeks:

If you've been frequenting Babywearing 102 and PAXbaby on Facebook you may have seen this picture of our gorgeous black weft Vice Versa Girasol. The first woven wrap I wore her in. She was a week old in this picture.

Maruyama Vatani - I've worn all 4 kids in this wrap. It's the same one that I posted about on this blog over 5 years ago. (Eeep! Itty bitty baby feet!)

So this wrap used to live life as a Kokadi Diorite... Until Josiah got his red kool-aid smile on it and stained it. So I sent it off to get a color bath. I'm so in love with the colors!

Catching Up on the Past Year

I can't believe I let a whole year get away from me without posting a single thing! Well, about a week after my last post I found out that I was pregnant with baby #4!

12 week bump!

Turns out that I was pregnant with a girl! After 3 boys, finally a girl!

So I went from finding the perfect toddler stash to finding the perfect newborn stash. I think I should update this blog a lot more often now that I'm wearing a new little one. She's 3 months old now, by the way.

Here's a few pictures that I wish I had blogged about along the way...

I've started a lending library with a friend of mine and it has grown so big! We're the Babywearers of East County (San Diego) an you can find us on Facebook.

Kokadi Erna 4 came and went... Never even wore my new baby girl in it. :(

I wore my toddler in our toddler Tula until my belly got to big to wear it. I was about 20 weeks along in this picture.

Finding the Perfect Toddler Stash, Part 2 - Toddler Tulas

Not bad, I only waited a month between posts! ;)

This post is going to be all about one of my most favorite toddler sized carriers - a Toddler Tula.

Tula Baby Carriers come in 2 different sizes: standard size and toddler size.

When I first heard of Tulas I wasn't too sure which one would work best for my (then) 17 month old toddler. If I purchased the standard size I could have bought the free to grow leg extenders, but then it would have equaled out to be about the same price as the toddler size. I decided to go with a toddler size based on the fact that my 17 month old toddler was 24lbs and 32" tall. I'm so glad I did! The picture above was taken just after I picked up our Tula from Ula herself.

(Aren't we San Diego mamas so lucky to have such a great asset in our community?!)

Notice how well he fits in it! He has the perfect "M"/knee to knee seated position.

We ended up getting lucky enough to snag one of her Semi-Wrap Converstion Tulas during one of her store stockings. I stayed up until midnight to get this one! The front panel of this one is made with a Petrol Pfau Didymos woven wrap. The waist, straps and back of the panel are a soft canvas fabric.

After using the BabyHawk Oh Snap, I wasn't used to how tall the Tula was! It might seem like it's really high up his back, but if Josiah wanted to ride with his arms out he can easily do it.

These carriers can be used on both your back and your front.

They are full buckle carriers with a chest clip.

These straps can NOT be unbuckled and can not be crossed like the BabyHawk Oh Snap.

I eventually traded my Petrol Pfau Tula for my Matryoshka Tula. This is one of her older prints that has been discontinued. I lost some money in the trade (if I ever decide to sell it), but I love it and I REALLY wanted this one!

What I love about Tulas:

- They feel like they hug your baby. I love where the strap connects to the body of the carrier.

- The hood snaps on and off from the inside of the carrier. (Only problem is that it's easier to loose if you take it off!)

- The straps are super padded and comfy.

-There's a handy pocket in the waistband that is the perfect size for a cell phone.

- The in-stock carriers come in a nice variety of prints.

- The leg padding!

What I don't love about the Tula (gasp!):

- Like any other SSC they create an awful "muffin top" when I wear him on my back. Pretty much un-avoidable unless you're super skinny... which I'm not.

- While front carries fit us really well, I feel like the straps can't get tight enough for a back carry. If they were just 2-3" shorter it would fit me a LOT better! I have a short torso and I'm only 5'3".

Shortly after we got our Matryoshka Tula I was itching for another WC Tula. One night I saw that she was stocking some on her website... I wasn't planning on buying one, but I saw the Semi-WC Amitola Tula and I couldn't resist!

I'm already looking into buying my 4th Tula. I'm thinking that I need the Urban Elephants one listed on her website. :) We'll see....

Finding the Perfect Toddler Stash, Part 1 - BabyHawk Oh Snap

I've come to the conclusion that I'm an awful blogger. I will never do this professionally... and I'm ok with that. I just can't make time to keep up with this stuff with everything else going on my life. :) With that being said, I still love updating it and being able to look back in here on my now 5.5 years of happy babywearing! (Even if no one else reads it!)

In the past several months I've gone just a little crazy with buying new carriers and a few have already come and gone. With Josiah only getting heavier I've been needing some new toddler-worthy carriers! I also said goodbye to an old favorite! (Yikes!)

So here we go...

After about FOUR years of not buying any new carriers, I decided that it was time to get a new one for my youngest son, Josiah. He's a lot heavier than my older two boys were during their toddler years. I went in search of the perfect toddler-sized/supportive carrier when Josiah was 16 months old. My go-to carrier has always been a wrap with my older boys. Josiah was not having anything to do with a wrap a few months ago! He would wiggle and struggle to get down, arch his back. It was bad. I needed something with buckles! Something I could get him in so quick that he wouldn't even have time to protest!

My new toddler-worthy buying spree started off with this awesome carrier:

It's a BabyHawk Oh Snap! I bought it from a local shop here in East County, San Diego called Baby Frenzy and they were kind enough to let me try it on before I bought it. It was seriously love at first carry! It was the very first Soft Structured Carrier that I actually LOVED! Although I hadn't had much experience with any other SSCs other than an Ergo that didn't stick around for very long. I think it helped that I was familiar with the BabyHawk brand since it was what I call my "gateway" carrier. I love the way the babyhawk mei tai fits and this is pretty similar... it just has buckles instead of ties. There's also lots of adjustments on this carrier to help you get the perfect fit for your body type.

Unfortunately I don't think it's the perfect toddler carrier.

These carriers will hold up to 45lbs, but I feel like it is better suited for a smaller sized baby. I'd say from about 6 months old up to about 13 months would have been the perfect age range for this. The panel seemed a bit small for my 17 month old toddler who prefers arms in most of the time. There's also no hood or head support for when he falls asleep.

This carrier only stayed around for a couple weeks and then it moved on to a new family in north county. If there's ever a baby Stoddard #4 I'll definitely look in to buying another one of these! My dream BH OS would be a wrap conversion made from either a Revontuli (#25) Girasol or a Timbuktu Hopp.

Isn't it GORGEOUS?! It will be mine someday if I can help it....

Next post I'll talk about my toddler Tula(s) and my new found love for them! Hopefully I'll get around to posting it a lot sooner than 3 months from now. ;)

Sakura Bloom Essentials Silk Ring Sling

Like I mentioned... oh... FOUR months ago, I promised to go through and add some of the pictures that I've missed over the years. (Can you believe I started this blog about 5 years ago?!) My first born is starting kindergarten this year! It's crazy. Makes me so thankful that I was able to find the babywearing love with my first born. :)

Anyway, here's the first post of many oldies. Right before I gave birth to my 3rd boy my bestie, Lizz (Yes, the same Lizz who introduced me to babywearing) bought me this GORGEOUS silk ring sling from Sakura Bloom. The colors are Licorice/Raspberry and it's now a discontinued colorway. It's super comfy and pretty supportive, but I'm so afraid to wear it because it's so beautiful! I don't want to ruin it in any way! So here's the pictures of when it first arrived at my house and then some action shots when Josiah was just a few weeks old in January 2011.

ETA: This beautiful sling sold shortly after posting this. As gorgeous as it was and as supportive as it was.... I just couldn't bring myself to use it as an every day carrier. I didn't like the gathered shoulder (I prefer pleated) and it was just a bit too girly for my boys. It moved on to a sweet nanny who needed something to wear a baby that she watches.

Sort of.

Nothing in my stash has changed much since I last posted. The only thing different is that I now have THREE handsome boys. I've remarried to a wonderful man. And I added one new Sakura Bloom ring sling and I've misplaced my Kozy. :/

Some day soon I plan to go back through this blog and see what pictures I have up. I'll add any that I haven't posted yet. I have a few good babywearing pictures to post.

Not sure if anyone comes across this blog any more... but I'll do it just in case. ;)

I didn't. :) I still babywear. I'm just not as in to it as I used to be. After the divorce I just can't afford to have a big stash like I used to. I'm gonna leave this blog here and I probably won't update it anymore. Maybe someday I'll write in here again....

Newborn Stash Wishlist

I know this is way to early to start thinking about adding to my stash for the new baby, but I think this will be a work in progress. I'll add to it/delete as time goes on... and gets closer to January 2009. (Doesn't that seem so far away??) Anna Comes to Visit

And the first thing Camron does when we get home is take it out of my messenger bag and starts playing with it!

This is the same Anna Storch that we had around Christmas time... I then sold it to one of the local babywearing mamas. She offered to let us borrow it for a little bit so I of course I said yes! I love Anna. And it's even softer then I remember!!

New Babies to be Worn!!

If you haven't been to my other (more personal) blog lately then you might have missed the news about all the new babies!!!

First New Baby - My sister gave birth to a happy, healthy baby girl this past weekend. It's her first child and my first niece! =) I haven't been able to wear her yet... or even convince my sister that babywearing is the way to go, but I plan to get her to a babywearing meeting one of these days!!

Second New Baby - My best friend, Lizz, is going to be having her second child due in November!! If you don't keep up with this blog you should know that Lizz is the one who introduced BWing to me... so no need to convince her about Babywearing. =)

Third New Baby - MINE!! Ronnie and I just found out that we're having baby number 2 in early January 2009!! We're VERY excited!!!

I'm so happy that I get the chance to wear all of these new babies... especially my very own. Looks like I'll have to get together the perfect newborn stash wishlist soon!

OnBag - The Babywearing Bag

The OnBag is a brand new Babywearing diaper bag that I just discovered last night while I was browsing TheBabyWearer.com. It is designed and made by Sarah, a lovely mama who is a member of TBW.

I personally think these are super cute and VERY practical! I can't tell you how long I've been on the hunt for the perfect babywearing-friendly bag... I think I've finally found it!!!

Here's a quote from her website about the OnBag:

Buena Vista Kozy Goes to Sea World!

...And I didn't even manage to get a picture of us using it! =(

Since Ronnie is in the Marine Corps we get one free admission a year to Sea World. So yesterday we decided to take Camron... without taking a stroller!!! It was so nice not to have to lug around a big bulky stroller from show to show. If you've ever been to Sea World you'll know that you have to park the stroller if you want to see anything and that can be a huge hassel! Instead I carrier Camron on my back in the Kozy while Ronnie carried the backpack full of our stuff. It worked out perfectly. We were able to walk in and out of the shows and attractions with ease. Camron was even able to take a nap on my chest while we ate. When he wanted to get down to walk around it wasn't a problem. I just took off the Kozy and put it in the backpack.

Of course wearing him all day did have its drawbacks....
It was stinkin' hot! I think it was around 90 degrees by the beach yesterday!! It didn't help that Camron sweats a lot in his sleep. Wearing him also wore me out a lot faster. Despite these two drawbacks I didn't miss the stroller at all!

Over all we had a great babywearing day yesterday. =) Now I'm only wishing that we could afford to go to places like Sea World more often....

Moving + Babywearing = Happy Mom + Happy Toddler

We've pretty much finished up all our moving this week. All I have to say is TGFBW (Thank Goodness For Babywearing!) Camron has been starting to cut his back molars and all he's been wanting lately is to be held. The problem is that I've been the one that has done most of the moving and putting things away. That's where Babywearing comes in! The only way I've managed to get everything done is to have Camron up on my back in the Kozy. I don't think I could have done it all with out it. Sadly though I can't really wear him for long periods of time any more. He's just too darn heavy. He loves it though so I do what I can.

One thing I realized this week is that I've hardly worn him in anything at all except for our Inka Storch and our Buena Vista Kozy... And that led me to my post in FSOT (For Sale or Trade) on TBW. That's right, I've sold off a lot of my stash.... In the last couple stash purges I had to say good-bye to:
-My dyed Emerald Green Cairo Hopp
-My Earthy Rainbow (GASP!)
-Tobias shortie
-Pink Tom (5)
and
-Old Rainbow Shortie

I was really sad to see all of those go, but they're off to other homes to be loved and snuggled with other mamas and their babies. I'll have to get a new stash shot soon of what's left.

My goodness.. I've been so bad about updating this blog! There's been some crazy changes to my stash lately. No additions to it, but I did have to sell some of my most favorite wraps in order to get some fast money for a deposit on a house. =( I figured it was for the best anyway.... Camron is hardly being worn at all now days. I think this week has been the most I've worn him in the past 2 months! And it was in the Kozy, not a wrap!! I know, I know... and I call myself a wrapper. I actually think my next carrier purchase is probably going to be a soft structured carrier. (GASP!) If you look in my past posts you'll see that I did once own a Babies Beyond Boarders SSC and a brand new Ergo. I don't think I'll be buying either one again, but I do think I need a SSC. Anyone have a SSC suggestion for a 25-30lb toddler?? I'm so lost when it comes to SSC's!! LOL. I'll have to do research on it later... For now I just wanted to let everyone know what was up with this blog. Oh and we're moving! Tomorrow is moving day and we'll be without the internet for several days. (How will I ever manage?!) I'll update more when we get back online!

Hubby and I just got back from Las Vegas. I saw tons of people wearing their babies there... mostly in Bjorns, BUT I did a mama wearing a little one in what I *think* was a hotsling that was WAAAY too big for her!

I have lots to update, but for now I'm off to bed! What a crazy weekend!
