In Forrester’s evaluation of eight Web analytics vendors, we reviewed 105 criteria that exposed a tight Leader board because of each vendor’s ability to process copious amounts of data and offer robust customization capabilities. Leaders in this field include US companies Omniture, Coremetrics, Unica, and Webtrends, with Netherlands-based Nedstat holding its own. Google Analytics advanced to Strong Performer with demonstrated capabilities for the enterprise market, and AT Internet and Yahoo! Web Analytics ranked as Contenders. Through this detailed evaluation and report, we seek to identify Web analytics solutions that meet the needs of large enterprises as they grow, mature, and plan their evolving Web analytics strategies.

How is this Wave related to the one from two years ago? I found (sorry, no working link found) a good pic to give some insights. How will the landscape be in 2011 according to YOU?

Every year there are a couple of reports that can help you to oversee the Web Analytics market. Of course Forrester have their Web Analytics Buyers Guide every year around July. The Web Analytics Report 2009 from CMS Watch is another interesting one to read.

Published by the same trusted team that has been providing vendor-neutral technology evaluations for the past 7 years, the Report provides a comprehensive overview of Web Analytics solution providers and best practices. Updated for 2009, the bulk of the report entails comparative evaluations of 20 Web Analytics solutions offerings.

Like other CMS Watch offerings, the Web Analytics does not rank “best” vendors, but instead details the strengths and weaknesses of the various players, identifies their suitability for different use cases, and isolates vendor tendencies that may influence longterm product roadmaps.

Who has read the report already and has some interesting / remarkable / obvious points to share?

This Tuesday Google Analytics launched an API! This feature was requested for a longtime by users worldwide.

The API will allow developers to extend Google Analytics in new and creative ways that benefit developers, organizations and end users. Large organizations and agencies now have a standardized platform for integrating Analytics data with their own business data. Developers can integrate Google Analytics into their existing products and create standalone applications that they sell. Users could see snapshots of their Analytics data in developer created dashboards and gadgets. Individuals and business owners will have opportunities to access their Google Analytics information in a variety of new ways.

On the official Google Analytics blog you can read how this API works and how to get started. If anyone have some experience already, please share this! Thanks.

(One quote: ‘Numbers don’t lie, but they sometimes fib, especially when you’ve got databases full of them strewn across your organizations. Webtrends provides the technology tools you need to uncover the truth in your numbers, and turn this data into the understanding needed to turn your business goals into realities.’)

The new focus is about building trust with customers, being open with customers, being open for other systems (Webtrends Open Exchange) and the development community and enriching their user experience. Recently they’ve announced Social Measurement, for monitoring social media.

Alex Yoder, CEO of Webtrends gives some comments on that:

Everybody knows the popular social network site Twitter. If you like it or not, millions of people use it nowadays. Shouldn’t it be cool to integrate twitter data with your Web Analytics tool. Of course! Why? Because you are able to track your brand mentions on Twitter. Sometimes the’re negative, hopefully most of the time the’re positive. This information is very interesting and useful for a marketeer. Questions like: ‘How often is your brand mentioned? ; by what people? ; in what context?’ ; can be answered.

Adam Grego from Omniture made a plugin with the Data Insertion API of SiteCatalyst that is used to inject non-website data into SiteCatalyst and Twitter, which has an API associated with its search.twitter.com website.

In a extensive post he’s describing a business scenario, how to monitor brand comments, who’s tweeting and mining into some product words. Here you can find the technical information for this solution.

Do YOU think this integration is useful? Does someone already have experience with this SiteCatalyst/Twitter integration or other Web Analytics tools?
