Our previous post from last month outlined how Twitter can be a useful tool to market businesses online. The social marketing site is not just for personal or celebrity use but also a powerful tool to consider as one of company’s marketing agenda.

I know most of you have heard or used twitter sometime in your lifetime even possibly consuming your lifetime. However, a couple things I would like to share on this post are tools to enhance your social online life on Twitter.

For me, I personally use twitter to touch base with friends, create new networks, and also marketing your business. To be effective as a marketer on twitter, I have my set of TWITTER TOOLS that I mostly use.

My favorite tools to use in conjunction with Twitter:

Retweetist which measures how many times a person is retweeted.

Social Too allows you auto follow those who follow you.

Twibs shows you how some of the big brands are using twitter.

Marketing your business on TWITTER!

A month ago, I joined twitter at last… I did it because it is one of the social media marketing sites that I have not been a part off and I felt a little out of the new era. I head a lot of buzz about the social media marketing network especially from FOX news and even CNN. So one night, I gave in and did it.

So to give a short introduction to all who doesn’t know what Twitter is…

Twitter is a micro-blogging platform (where you can only blog for 125 characters at a time). It lets you inform the whole world what you are up to in any given time. There are millions of Twitter-addicts all over the world, and the number of active users has increased by 900% in the past year (that is a lot!). Companies can also use it to promote themselves.

On Twitter you will have people “following” you, and you will be “following” others. “Following” is being updated every time a new post is added to one of your contacts’ profiles. Being followed is the same; every time you have something to add, all your “followers” will be updated. The more people that follow you, the more exposure your business will get.

So below are some of my suggestions to be a successful business marketer on Twitter:

Step 1: Import Your Contacts
Twitter allows you to to import contacts from Gmail, Hotmail and your own address book. Do it.

Step 2: Study the Structure of Twitter
Twitter is a social tool, not a classifieds site. These are some tips that will help you to get followers:

**Don’t spam others about your specials
**Follow other users
**Be active in the community (tweet and post comments about others’ tweets often)
**Only post useful and relevant information
**Don’t tweet every 10 minutes. It becomes annoying.
**Engage in conversations. Retweet (reply to others’ tweets) often
**Don’t promote your company directly. Do it the smart way. For example, if you sell widgets, write a buyer’s guide about the kind of widgets that you sell and tweet about that blog post. That is useful information. Avoid tweets like “Great Widgets On Sale – Starting at $9.99!”

Step 3: Build Your Followers Base

There are many things that you can do to build your followers base:

**Put a link to “Follow Me on Twitter” everywhere (your email signature, forums, website, and business cards)
**Every time you post on your blog, invite people to follow you on Twitter
**Search for Twitter users whose followers base you would love to have for yourself. See who is following them and follow those users. They will follow you back.See who is following your friends and follow them.
**There are Twitter directories that are great to find members who are likely to follow you. Examples include Just Tweet It and Twellow.
**Use Twitter’s search feature to find profiles that interest you. Use Twitter’s RSS feed to be notified every time a tweet containing a certain keyword is made.

Step 4: Balance Your Followers/Following Ratio

Try to have a balance between people you follow and people that follow you. If a lot of people follow you and you don’t follow them, they will stop following you. If you are following plenty of people but just a few are following you, you’ll be seen as a spammer trying to grow your follower base as quickly as possible.

These are some ideas to keep both numbers balanced:

Grow slow. Instead of adding 200 new friends all of a sudden, add maybe 50 and wait for them to follow you back. Then follow another 50.
Use tools like Friend or Follow. This tool lets you check who is following you whom you are not following. It also allows you to see who you are following who are not following you. This is the best way to balance your ratio in just a few minutes.
Avoid following others so they follow you, only to stop following them once they are on board following you. If you do this, you will be seen as a spammer.

Step 5: Make it Worthwhile to Follow You

Tweet interesting stuff. Every time you are about to post something, ask yourself “Is this something I would be interested in?” If the answer is no, chances are that your followers will feel the same way.

Done right, Twitter Marketing can lead to positive exposure for your business. Companies have been known to make tens of thousands of dollars from customers that found them through a Twitter account. Depending on your business, Twitter could be one of the most successful weapons in your Internet Marketing arsenal.

Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO Basics

This article is to outline the difference between Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO. What each technique mean? What are the pros and cons of each approach? and what is the best strategy to utilize?

Search engine optimization is composed of several different techniques. The majority of these techniques are aimed at fulfilling the basic requirements search engines need in order to measure a website’s importance and rank it accordingly in the search engine results or SERPs. Search engine optimization is generally classified into two categories:

White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO.

The techniques that conform to the search engine guidelines are called White Hat SEO. On the other hand, the SEO techniques that don’t play by the search engine regulations are called Black Hat SEO. White Hat and Black Hat are the two opposite ends of the search engine optimization spectrum. In reality, SEO can be more closely described as grey or a moderate combination of both Black Hat and White Hat techniques. In most cases, what is important is not whether Black or White Hat technique is utilized; rather what effect that particular technique will have to the site.

What is White Hat SEO?

White Hat SEO techniques are legitimate and ethical and don’t violate search engines’ terms of service. This is a strategy that abides with the website guidelines that has been published by major search engines such as Google. White Hat SEO methods focus mainly on the creation of unique, high quality, search engine-friendly content. By keeping the website content fresh and high quality, the value of the website to visitors as well as to search engine spiders’ increases. Meeting these requirements result in a favorable search engine ranking.

White Hat SEO also involves enhancing on-page factors such as site structure, title and Meta tags, keyword density, link placement, and others. Internal linking, which ensures that every page in the website is found and indexed by search engine is also a proven White Hat SEO technique. Another good White Hat SEO method is the intelligent reciprocal linking, or the exchanging of links with sites that are related and relevant to your websites content.

Pros and Cons of White Hat SEO

White Hat SEO methods generally produce positive results that are more stable and longer lasting than those with Black Hat, since White Hat involves playing by the rules of the search engines. Practicing White Hat SEO avoids the risk of being penalized by search engines, such as being banned or removed from the SERPs. However, White Hat SEO techniques often take months, and even years, to produce results.

What is Black Hat SEO?

Black Hat SEO means using techniques that are not approved by the search engines or go against their rules. Some of the common Black Hat SEO practices include spamdexing – which in itself is composed of several unethical SEO techniques such as keyword stuffing (or the inordinate of use keywords to raise the keyword count and density) and the use of hidden or invisible text (same color as background) on web pages. Cloaking, which involve giving a different page depending on whether the page is requested by a search engine or a visitor, is another common Black Hat technique. Basically, any SEO techniques outside of the search engine web guidelines can be considered Black Hat.

Pros and Cons of Black Hat SEO

Black Hat SEO techniques are designed to create increased traffic results immediately. Black Hat SEOs usually take pride in their ‘no rules’ approach in optimization. However, websites that use Black Hat SEO risk being penalized and banned by the search engines once discovered.

So in conclusion, White Hat SEO is highly recommended between the two, it is safe. However, if you want increased traffic immediately then Black Hat SEO will absolutely help. Just don’t neglect the risks of such strategy; some have been successful utilizing some techniques while other has been unfortunate.

Google Page Rank Toolbar update - Confirmed

For those avid users of the Google Toolbar like me, Google performed an update to the PageRank scores about a week or so ago. The initial update was not informed or publicized at all when it happened. However, Matt Cutts from Google did eventually confirm this update on his Twitter and said, YUP…. it indeed happen.

From the effects of the update, many of the website’s pagerank went up and some came down. There were a majority that initially had their PR as 0 and now they went up to 2. Still the website’s page rank does not solely indicate the performance of the site when it comes to search engine placement but it is still a factor to consider.

Have you checked your page rank lately, did anything changed for you ?

Writing Articles WILL Increase Web Traffic

It has been known that writing articles is one of the most effective ways in increasing traffic to your site. To some SEO experts, they consider this a MUST for all websites just because majority of the article directories rank very well in Google, Yahoo, and MSN search. So well, that it might even outrank your own site.

By writing articles, you are branding yourself as an expert in your industry. If you have many articles circulating the World Wide Web, you can even be semi-famous doing it. In fact, other companies might even seek your professional help in writing articles for them. By writing articles, you are creating a one way link back to your site; this is why you never forget to put an “About the Author” section at the bottom of each and every article that you submit.

Now the facts! Article writing is not easy at all. It is very time consuming however, it does pay off at the end. So, I suggest that if you have some time in your hands, start thinking of about your next article to write about. Do some research on the web and please make sure that your article does not contain spelling errors or incorrect grammars.

So here are the good news, if you can write, then you can do article marketing. It is not rocket science. Below are some suggestions that I would like to point out when you start article marketing. These are just the basic golden rules when writing an effective article.

1. Do your research on the content before you begin. Read the recent news in your niche. Read forum post. Subscribe to newsletters. Join networking groups. This is vital for a well written article.

2. When writing your article, please make sure that it is search engine friendly as much as possible. Do your keyword research. See which keywords are being searched for, I would suggest, at least 500 times or more but have no more than 500,000 competing results. As you know the less competitors you have, the more likely that you article will appear.

3. Now create a “catchy” headline. Your main keyword should be in it. Some popular headlines include “How To”, “Top 10 Ways” and “Reasons Why”.

4. Brainstorm then write your articles. In most cases, the preparation takes longer than writing itself. Usually 400 is the minimum number of words you are aiming at. This should be easy considering we used to write more when we were in elementary and high school.

6. Remember to fill in the resource box. The important thing is to emphasize that you are an expert, include your website, and the link back to your site.

7. Proofread your article. Make sure that there are no spelling or grammatical errors. If necessary, you can ask someone else proof-read your article before submitting.

Keep in mind that when you are generating ideas for your articles, write down whatever that comes to your mind, no matter how weird / non-sense it sounds. You can always filter them out later. Try a couple runs and see how it is like.

I personally have first hand experience in the success of writing articles. Our website development and marketing website have gained tremendous traffic growth due to this venture. So, please do take the time and write what you know the most.
