Blogging Made Easy! Discover How Easy it is to Set-up, Generate
Traffic, and Profit From a Blog Even If You're Not a Writer…

Howdy,

Without doubt the most important part of any article that you publish on your blog is the title or headline that you use. It's the one factor that ultimately determines whether or not your article gets read and for many, including myself, is the most difficult to write…

That is until i discovered the sneaky little secret that many successful bloggers and article writers use for generating titles and headlines that almost guarantee their articles and product sales letters get read…

What is this secret you ask ?

The secret technique they use is to take previously successful headlines or titles and to simply adapt them to suit whatever they are writing about. This usually is in the form of having what is called a "Swipe File" which is basically a list of 100's of successful headline and title templates…

To give you a basic understanding of the process that the majority of successful writers and copywriters go through in producing effective titles and headlines for their products and articles i've included 3 real life examples below:

1. The Ultimate Benefit Method

It's much easier to come up with some really good article titles once you can figure out the ultimate benefit that your article or blog post provides the reader. The secret is to spend a considerable amount of time thinking about this "Ultimate Benefit" that you'll be providing to the reader and and then include it into your article title or headline…

Ultimately a title that is centered around the most appealing benefit stands a far greater chance of attracting interest and attention than any non benefit title that you write…

Here's a few real life examples of article titles that provide the reader with the "Ultimate Benefit" that they will get from reading the article or blog post…

"How To Quickly & Easily Get All The Credit You've Ever Wanted — 100% Guaranteed!

"Discover The Secrets For Creating Your Own Best Selling Info Product In A Single Evening"

"Discover 7 Quick & Easy Formulas For Writing Super Responsive Classified Ads"

2. The Borrow It Method

One easy way to put together an effective title for an article that your writing for your blog or for an article that your going to submit to article directories is to borrow ideas and formats from other successful titles and adapt them to suit whatever your writing about. I don't mean simply copying somebody else's but to just take the successful components and adapt them into your own…

What many people don't realize is that this technique is used by the majority of very successful writers and copywriters for creating profitable headlines and titles for their own and their clients products….

Here's 3 real life examples that use the "Borrow It" approach…

Original Headline Or Title: "They Laughed When I Sat Down At The Piano But When I Started To Play!"

Adaption Headline: "They Laughed When I Sat Down At The Piano. They Stopped When I Picked It Up" (Used by Gold's Gym)

Original Headline Or Title: "To People Who Want To Write - But Can't Get Started"

Adaption Headline: "To People Who Want To Own A Beautiful House - But Can't Get Started With A Regular Savings Plan"

Original Headline Or Title: "10 Ways To Lose Extra Weight And Keep It Off"

Adaption Headline: "3 Ways To Rid Your Home Of Pests And Keep Them Away For Good"

3. Fill In The Blanks Method

This technique is amazingly simple to use and can be a lot of fun once you've decided the ultimate benefit that your article or post provides the reader. All you need to do is take any of the sample provided below and adapt them for your own use by filling in the blanks…

You can adapt literally any successful titles you find anywhere by using the same principle!

a) How To…

How To ________ (get, have, acquire, own, profit from etc) __________ (biggest benefit)

For Example:

"How To Solve All Your Money Problems Forever"

"How To Make $87,000 Per Year As A Magazine Writer"

"How To Easily Get All The Credit You Could Ever Want"

a) Secrets Of…

The Secrets Of _________ (biggest benefit)

For Example:

"The Secrets Of Living In Style Without Any Money Worries"

"The Secret To Getting All The Credit You Ever Wanted - Even If You've Been Bankrupt"

You can also use the fill in the blanks approach to writing effective headlines by inserting the "biggest benefit" your article, blog post or product provides into the following:

The Complete Program For ________

The Complete Guide To ________

The Quick And Easy Way To ________

________ For Fun And Profit

As you can see from the above 3 examples, writing effective article titles or headlines for your products sales page is not as hard as you first may think. It simply means taking previously successful templates and adapting them to suit whatever your writing about…

How do you personally write titles for your own blog posts ?

Please leave any suggestions you have for others in the comments section below!

Catch you later

Traffic, and Profit From a Blog Even If You're Not a Writer…

Howdy,

Thought i'd give you a quick update of the progress i'm making after joining terry dean's internet business intern program

In my last post i gave you a quick update to where i was at after 7 days into terry deans intern program I'd successfully completed the first three tasks that i was required to do and was about to get started on task four of the program which required me to ghostwrite a blog entry for one of terry's blogs…

To be completely honest with you this was by far the hardest task i've had to perform so far in the intern program. Not only was i required to write a blog entry but i was also expected to write it as if terry himself had written it…

To be able to perform this task as well as possible i had to first spend a considerable amount of time reading content that terry had previously written on his blog so as to get a feel of how terry writes articles on his blog. Then i had to figure out what to write about!

Well after spending what must have been at least 6 hours on task 4 i finally finished ghostwriting a blog entry for one of terry's blogs and have submitted it to the email address that i'm required to report my results to…

I'd like to be able to show you the actual blog post i've written for terry's blog because i'm quite proud of what i've written but i can't show you i'm afraid because it's only meant to be used on terry's blog, obviously only if terry himself thinks it's good enough to put his name to…

After finishing the article i couldn't help thinking to myself whether the 6 hours or so that it took me to finish the task were worth while. After all terry might not even use the content i'd created for him on his blog…

Instead i decided to not look at the negative side of the what i'd written but to look at the task as a learning experience that should help me in the future to produce good quality content for my own blog at the end of the program…

Bye for now gotta get some sleep before starting on task 5

Howdy,

Well i'm 7 days into Terry Dean's internship and i can honestly say i'm enjoying the experience so far. I've completed the first 3 tasks and am currently on my first article writing task which is a little more challenging than the first 3 i've performed…

I'm not too sure how much information i'm allowed to post on my blog about each individual task i'm asked to perform for Terry's business so i won't give the game away too much because i'm not too sure about the terms and conditions of his program…

After all i certainly don't want Terry to throw me off the program for giving too much info away do i ?

What i will do though is give you a little taster of the first 5 tasks i'm required to perform for one of Terry's internet businesses through his internship program which i will, at a later date be able to perform on my own internet business with hopefully the same positive results. Here's a very basic outline of the first 5 tasks i've been asked to perform…

1. Keyword Research

First task is working on some keyword research which will be used to promote one of terry's business's through blog posts and article submissions…

2. Headlines

Second task is to write new potential headlines for one of terry dean's current products or sites…

3. Blog Carnivals

Third task is to submit a recent article terry has written to related blog carnivals…

4. Ghostwriting

Fourth task is to ghostwrite a blog entry for one of terry's many blogs trying to write it in his voice…

5. Forum Resource Box

Finally the fifth task is to create a simple resource box i will use for articles and on forums…

There you have it a little insight into what's involved in the first 5 tasks of terry dean's internship program. I highly recommend that if you intend to create a future internet business for yourself you join terry's internship program and get first hand experience of what's involved…

Here's where you sign up for terry dean's internet business internship program

Good luck!

Bye for now gotta get started on task 4

Howdy,
Would you consider working for somebody else's internet business for free ? (...)

Howdy,

Would you consider working for somebody else's internet business for free ?

Well that's what i'm going to be doing for the next 28 days as i've enrolled into Terry Dean's intern program which will teach me how to build and promote an internet business exactly the same way as Terry Dean promotes his internet business…

I won't be promoting my blog though here at web business blog i will be promoting and doing tasks for Terry's businesses in exchange for learning for Free exactly the steps i will need to take at a future date to promote my internet business here on this blog…

For those of you are not too sure what an internet intern program is here's a few bullet points taken straight from Terry's intern program information page:

For the next 28 days you will receive a daily lesson and video. Each one will show you another proven step in running an internet business.

Once you've completed the simple daily actions on this series, you will know how to grow your own internet business.

Here are the simple rules you must agree to:

    * The intern program is FREE. There is no cost to you whatsoever to learn how to market your website online.

    * You will receive a simple task each day you can do right from your home computer. You will not be asked to buy anything or spend any money in the program.

    * The normal time of completion for each task will be 1 to 2 hours. You're learning how to promote a business in 5 to 12 hours per week.

    * By the end of the program, you will have received over 7 hours of training videos worth $397. You'll be able to take the exact same steps you followed to promote a business of your own.

    * This is not a coaching program so questions are not allowed in this program.

    * Some of the projects do involve writing. If you are uncomfortable writing online, then it may not be for you.

    * Those who do an excellent job in the intern program MAY be offered opportunities to continue these assignments for pay (there is no pay during the intern process).

I will be reporting back here on this blog in the near future after i've finished the intern program on how i got on and whether all the work i will be doing for Terry for free was worth it…

I have no doubt that it will be time well spent!

Bye for now…

Well i've finally taken the plunge and am going to try and produce my very first internet business product that will teach the total novice how to set up a wordpress blog on their own domain, where i will be using video tutorials to teach every step of the process involved…
The product that i will be producing over the next couple of weeks will be made with the instructions that are given through one of James Brausch's products that ive recently purchased which teaches you how you can easily produce your own DVD which i plan to sell from this very blog your reading now (once i get some decent traffic here!)
I think it's going to be a challenge for me personally as i do naturally lack confidence in my own abilities but hopefully after going through all the steps that james teaches in his product creation DVD it will help me to build my self confidence up for future internet products i may create in the future…
By the way i recommend you bookmark james brausch's blog because it really is a good read and one which i visit on a daily basis…
By the way I bet you didn't know that once upon a time james use to be a methamphetamine addict who had no money and lived rough on the streets and now he's turned his life completely round full circle and is now a millionaire ? (...)

Howdy,

It's been a good while since i last posted here on this blog and to tell you the truth i was going to let this blog die a slow death as i'd basically given up the ghost so to speak of ever making any decent money from it, until i realized that the blogging skills that i'd personally learnt over the last few years were not skills that the average person new when they first decided to look into starting their own blog…

Here's a true story of the day i realized that the blogging skills i new and had learnt were worth sharing…

As you may know or not know i work for a company called Kelloggs and have done for the last 15 years, anyway…. there's a friend at work called Dave Roberts who for the last couple of years has been looking into emigrating from the UK to go and live in New Zealand. Well early this year Dave finally decided to take the plunge, sell his house and move the whole of his family to the other side of the world…

A week before he was due to fly out we were sitting down in the works canteen just generally talking about his emigration. As he sat there excitingly describing what his life would hopefully be like once in New Zealand i said to him, "Why don't you start a blog so that your family and friends back in the UK can read updates of what your up to and how your getting on ? "

His answer to my question quite honestly took me by suprise. He said "What is a blog ? I've heard of them but i'm not sure what they are!

I went on to explain the basic concept of what a blog was and how he could easily post updates to it that his family back home in the UK could read by visiting his blog address. So i went on to say that if he wanted to i could easily set a blog up for him at blogger.com He said yes please and so that very same night i set up a simple blog for him over at blogger.com and also wrote out some simple instructions that he could follow when he wanted to post any updates…

The next day i gave him all the details about his new blog including username, passwords and instructions and to say he was very grateful would be an understatement. He was absolutely thrilled with what i'd done for him which to be quite honest had probably only taken me 10 minutes to set up. Here's the url of the very blog that i set up for him Dave Roberts New Zealand Blog As of today he's so far only posted 1 entry to his blog but i'm sure he'll post more updates when he gets a bit more time…

The point i'm trying to make is that the skills that i've already learnt regarding how to start a blog and the steps you need to take to build one are skills that are worth sharing with others, after all my friend Dave Roberts from work didn't really understand what the hell a blog was. The trouble is once you know how to do something you seem to sub consciously think everybody else knows it too, but of course they don't do they ?

So from now on i'm going to write content on this blog that mainly focuses on the novice blogger who perhaps like my good friend dave doesn't even understand what a blog is…

Thinking about it, once upon a time i didn't know what a blog was either

Regards

-John

What Is RSS ?

Although there have been many articles written trying to explain what rss is, it still remains one of the hardest blogging terms to understand especially for blog newbies. I know when i first started my blog it took me a while to understand what the hell an rss feed was, what an rss feedreader was and how vitally important they were for not only helping me to follow my own favorite blogs but also to help readers of this blog know when i've added new content…

Firstly here's some links to some excellent articles which should help you to understand what rss is all about PLUS i've also included an excellent video tutorial from videojug

1. What is RSS and How Do I Use It? by Yaro Starak from Blogmastermind

2. What is RSS? by Darren Rowse from Problogger

3. What the Heck is RSS? from Copyblogger

Yesterday John Chow relaunched his site with a complete theme redesign and the overall feedback from John Chow's blog readers seems pretty positive. This got me thinking about how i could perhaps enhance the design of web business blog so as to make it more appealing especially to first time visitors…

Although the most important part of any blog is the quality of the content i think the design plays a vital part in giving an overall first impression when somebody first lands on a blog especially the header part. Even though i think the overall theme of this blog is pretty good as it's a theme i bought for $250 from semiologic i've come to the conclusion that the header part of this blog needs some work doing on it, so i've decided to have a new header designed by the same people that redesigned john chow's blog unique blog design

Time will tell whether it's a good decision on my part to have the header of this blog redesigned but i'm sure it will be a positive step forward for the future of this blog. I very much look forward to your feedback once the new header to this blog is complete..

Of the many business related blogs i read on a daily basis there are very few apart from JohnChow.com that share any personal photographs of either the author of the blog or their family with their blogs readers. I understand that many bloggers would rather not show personal photographs of themselves or family on their business blogs because after all it's a business blog and not a personal blog, but surely by just sharing a few personal photos of the author and family now and again wouldn't it make their blogs more appealing ?

So i thought it would be fun to share with you a few personal photographs from my families recent trip to the party island of Ibiza in the balearic islands that we've just returned from last thursday

Here's yours truly outside the famous Bora Bora bar in playa del bossa

And here's the view from the holiday apartment we were stopping in while we were in ibiza

What's your view on showing some personal photographs to your blogs readers ? Do you think it's a good idea ?

Having backups of your blog is also vitally important as i'm sure you can imagine how devastating it would be if you were to lose all the files stored on your blogs server…

Firstly i want to show you how easy it is for you to automate the process of backing up your wordpress blog which also includes automating an email to be sent to you that contains all the latest files on your blogs server. In a later post i will show you how to backup your blogger blog…

How to Easily Backup a Wordpress Blog

Install Wordpress Backup Plugin

Firstly you need to download and install the wordpress database backup plugin from here wordpress backup plugin Extract the files contained within the downloaded zip file and upload them to /wp-content/plugins/ folder on your blogs server. Next you need to activate the plugin through the plugin menu. If you've installed the plugin correctly you should see the wordpress database plugin towards the bottom of your already installed plugin list. Simply click activate and then follow the below instructions: source

How to Use Wordpress Database Backup Plugin

1. Click the Manage menu in your WordPress admin area.
2. Click the Backup sub-menu.
3. The plugin will look for other tables in the same database. You may elect to include other tables in the backup.
** NOTE ** Including other tables in your backup may substantially increase the size of the backup file!
This may prevent you from emailing the backup file because it??s too big.
4. Select how you??d like the backup to be delivered:

    * Save to server : this will create a file in /wp-content/backup-*/ for you to retrieve later
* Download to your computer : this will send the backup file to your browser to be downloaded
* Email : this will email the backup file to the address you specify

5. Click ??Backup!?? and your database backup will be delivered to you.
The filename of the backup file will be of the form
DB_prefix_date.sql

    * DB = the name of your WordPress database, as defined in wp-config.php
* prefix = the table prefix for this WordPress blog, as defined in wp-config.php
* date = CCYYmmdd_B format: 20050711_039
* the ??B?? is the internet ??Swatch?? time.
* See the PHP date() function for details.

As you can see from the above instructions it's pretty simple setting up this excellent wordpress backup plugin and i can't stress enough how important it is to have a fresh backup of your prized blog should anything drastic happen on your blogs server where you could lose what could be your entire business!

This is a guest post by Dennis Wakeman from Coachezines

Most of the "rules" about writing for ezines and newsletters apply to writing posts for your blog, but there are some important differences. Keep these 10 tips in mind and you'll be publishing great blog content that attracts prospects and clients in your niche market…

1. Write with the reader in mind. Remember WIIFM? It??s marketing jargon for What??s In It For Me? That??s what you should be keeping in mind. Your reader will read your post looking for what??s in it for them.

2. Make it valuable and worthwhile. Don??t waste people??s time. If you don??t have anything to say, no problem, plenty other people do. So share their articles, do an interview, review a book.

3. Proof-read for typos and glaring grammatical errors. You wouldn??t go out of the house with dirty hair or missing a sock, so why would you publish spelling mistakes? Respect your readers by polishing up your stuff.

4. Keep it short and simple, sweetie. (KISS). Most people are scanners. You may have a lot to say and think it interesting, and it may be. But people are reading online and out of time. Get to the point quickly. Publishing short posts more frequently is a better format than publishing lengthy articles every few weeks.

5. Keep it lively, make it snappy and snazzy. Even if you aren??t a natural born writer, you can write for your blog. Just write like you??re speaking to your friend?or to yourself! Remember though, get to the point quickly. Keep in mind the journalist??s rule of 5 W??s in the first paragraph: who, what, why, when and where.

6. Link often. This builds credibility and positions you as an expert in your field. People don??t have time to know what others are doing, you should tell them. Linking to other blogs and websites also helps you build a network of associates who will in turn link to your blog.

7. Use keywords often. This will help you stay on purpose, and the search engines will love your blog. Your rankings will go up. This is one of the reasons we have you write out your purpose statements before beginning your blog. The clearer you are about your purpose, the more consistently you will deliver messages that are on target. And the more often your keywords show up, the better your search engine results.

8. Write clearly (short sentences, only one concept per sentence). No double speak or jargon; no more than one idea in one sentence- don??t make your readers have to think about your meaning. Spoon feed them. Use commas and dashes liberally.

9. Write like you talk. It??s okay to use common expressions from speech.

Examples:

Go figure.

Don??t even go there?

Now, I ask you?

Gotta love it?

(And, remember the age group of your readers?)

10. Use a clear headline, and don??t be afraid to make bold statements (but don??t mislead people either). Make it snazzy and use key words. Example: Ex-Techno-Weenie Masters HTML Code

BONUS: After you write a post and BEFORE you hit the save button

Use this checklist to ask yourself a few questions as you are reading through for typos and grammar:

__ Is the topic clear to someone who only reads the headline?

__Does the lead paragraph tell who and what the story is about and why the reader should care about it?

__ Is the angle you've used likely to seem newsworthy?

__Would someone who knows absolutely nothing about this topic understand this post?

__ Is the post free of jargon?

__ Is it written in journalistic style and does it make an effort to be objective?

__ Have you peppered the headline and the post with keywords and phrases that will be attractive to search engines?

__ Did you remember to ask your readers a question at the end, or something to stimulate readers to comment?

__ Did you remember to write with the reader in mind, always keeping in mind WIIFT? (What??s in It for Them?)

If your using wordpress as your blogging platform i highly recommend you install the following wordpress plugin that will help to increase your blogs traffic and more importantly increase the time visitors spend at your blog once they arrive. It's simply called the related posts wordpress plugin and what it does once it's been installed on your wordpress blog is to add links to other blog posts that you've made that are related to the topic of your current post…

If you scroll down to the bottom of this current post you'll see that there are links to posts that are somehow related in topic to this one. Once the related posts plugin is installed and activated all that is required is that you place a small piece of code where you want the related posts to appear…

I put the code at the bottom of each post because when a visitor reads through your blogs entry it will give them an opportunity to read another article that related to the one they've just read…

How Does the Related Wordpress Plugin Increase Traffic and Pageviews ?

Reason 1

It will increase the pageviews on your blog because when a visitor finishes reading the article they are reading they may go on to click through to one of the related articles. This also helps to increase the stickiness of your blog…

Reason 2

It will increase the number of internal links that you have on your blog which strengthens the internal structure which will help with your overall search engine rankings. You can read this article if you want more information on why internal links help search engine marketing part 1

The 2 above reasons should be more than enough to convince you that it's well worth while installing this plugin on your wordpress blog. It will only take you a couple of minutes to install and you should start to see the benefits of using it on your blog pretty quickly by just studying the increase in page views that your blog receives…

Here's the link to the related post plugin and also i've included some other great articles i recommend you read regarding wordpress plugins…

Here's Yaro's tips for increasing your blogs traffic, i hope you enjoy it…

====================================================

10 Effective Tips for Increasing Your Blogs Traffic

In every bloggers life comes a special day - the day they first launch a new blog. Now unless you went out and purchased someone else's blog chances are your blog launched with only one very loyal reader - you. Maybe a few days later you received a few hits when you told your sister, father, girlfriend and best friend about your new blog but that's about as far you went when it comes to finding readers.

Here are the top 10 techniques new bloggers can use to find readers. These are tips specifically for new bloggers, those people who have next-to-no audience at the moment and want to get the ball rolling.

It helps if you work on this list from top to bottom as each technique builds on the previous step to help you create momentum. Eventually once you establish enough momentum you gain what is called "traction", which is a large enough audience base (about 500 readers a day is good) that you no longer have to work too hard on finding new readers. Instead your current loyal readers do the work for you through word of mouth.

Blog Traffic Tip No 1

Write at least five major "pillar" articles. A pillar article is usually a tutorial style article aimed to teach your audience something. Generally they are longer than 500 words and have lots of very practical tips or advice. This article you are currently reading could be considered a pillar article since it is very practical and a good "how-to" lesson. This style of article has long term appeal, stays current (it isn't news or time dependent) and offers real value and insight. The more pillars you have on your blog the better.

Blog Traffic Tip No 2

Write one new blog post per day minimum. Not every post has to be a pillar, but you should work on getting those five pillars done at the same time as you keep your blog fresh with a daily news or short article style post. The important thing here is to demonstrate to first time visitors that your blog is updated all the time so they feel that if they come back tomorrow they will likely find something new. This causes them to bookmark your site or subscribe to your blog feed.

You don't have to produce one post per day all the time but it is important you do when your blog is brand new. Once you get traction you still need to keep the fresh content coming but your loyal audience will be more forgiving if you slow down to a few per week instead. The first few months are critical so the more content you can produce at this time the better.

Blog Traffic Tip No 3

Use a proper domain name. If you are serious about blogging be serious about what you call your blog. In order for people to easily spread the word about your blog you need an easily rememberable domain name. People often talk about blogs they like when they are speaking to friends in the real world (that's the offline world, you remember that place right?) so you need to make it easy for them to spread the word and pass on your URL. Try and get a .com if you can and focus on small easy to remember domains rather than worry about having the correct keywords (of course if you can get great keywords and easy to remember then you've done a good job!).

Blog Traffic Tip No 4

Start commenting on other blogs. Once you have your pillar articles and your daily fresh smaller articles your blog is ready to be exposed to the world. One of the best ways to find the right type of reader for your blog is to comment on other people's blogs. You should aim to comment on blogs focused on a similar niche topic to yours since the readers there will be more likely to be interested in your blog.

Most blog commenting systems allow you to have your name/title linked to your blog when you leave a comment. This is how people find your blog. If you are a prolific commentor and always have something valuable to say then people will be interested to read more of your work and hence click through to visit your blog.

Blog Traffic Tip No 5

Trackback and link to other blogs in your blog posts. A trackback is sort of like a blog conversation. When you write a new article to your blog and it links or references another blogger's article you can do a trackback to their entry. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry - it's sort of like your blog telling someone else's blog that you wrote an article mentioning them. Trackbacks often appear like comments.

This is a good technique because like leaving comments a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow, but it also does something very important - it gets the attention of another blogger. The other blogger will come and read your post eager to see what you wrote about them. They may then become a loyal reader of yours or at least monitor you and if you are lucky some time down the road they may do a post linking to your blog bringing in more new readers.

Blog Traffic Tip No 6

Encourage comments on your own blog. One of the most powerful ways to convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show there are other loyal readers already following your work. If they see people commenting on your blog then they infer that your content must be good since you have readers so they should stick around and see what all the fuss is about. To encourage comments you can simply pose a question in a blog post. Be sure to always respond to comments as well so you can keep the conversation going.

Blog Traffic Tip No 7

Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival. A blog carnival is a post in a blog that summarizes a collection of articles from many different blogs on a specific topic. The idea is to collect some of the best content on a topic in a given week. Often many other blogs link back to a carnival host and as such the people that have articles featured in the carnival enjoy a spike in new readers.

To find the right blog carnival for your blog, do a search at http://blogcarnival.com/

Blog Traffic Tip No 8

Submit your blog to blogtopsites.com. To be honest this tip is not going to bring in a flood of new readers but it's so easy to do and only takes five minutes so it's worth the effort. Go to Blog Top Sites, find the appropriate category for your blog and submit it. You have to copy and paste a couple of lines of code on to your blog so you can rank and then sit back and watch the traffic come in. You will probably only get 1-10 incoming readers per day with this technique but over time it can build up as you climb the rankings. It all helps!

Blog Traffic Tip No 9

Submit your articles to EzineArticles.com. This is another tip that doesn't bring in hundreds of new visitors immediately (although it can if you keep doing it) but it's worthwhile because you simply leverage what you already have - your pillar articles. Once a week or so take one of your pillar articles and submit it to Ezine Articles. Your article then becomes available to other people who can republish your article on their website or in their newsletter.

How you benefit is through what is called your "Resource Box". You create your own resource box which is like a signature file where you include one to two sentences and link back to your website (or blog in this case). Anyone who publishes your article has to include your resource box so you get incoming links. If someone with a large newsletter publishes your article you can get a lot of new readers at once.

Blog Traffic Tip No 10

Write more pillar articles. Everything you do above will help you to find blog readers however all of the techniques I've listed only work when you have strong pillars in place. Without them if you do everything above you may bring in readers but they won't stay or bother to come back. Aim for one solid pillar article per week and by the end of the year you will have a database of over 50 fantastic feature articles that will work hard for you to bring in more and more readers…

An area of my blog that i've been concentrating on improving just lately is my rss feed subscriber numbers and methods that i can use to increase the number of casual visitors to my blog and turn them into loyal rss feed subscribers…

Here's the 5 simple methods i'm currently using on my blog…

1. Keep RSS Feed Subscription Link Above Fold

Make sure you put your subscription options and links in a prominent position above the fold. This simply means that visitors shouldn't need to scroll down the page to be able to subscribe to your rss feed. A good place is somewhere at the top of the sidebar like i have here on the right…

2. Use the Standard Feed Icon Graphic

Make sure you add the standard rss feed icon graphic, preferably a large one so that it stands out on your blog making it more visible for visitors. Feel free to use the below graphic that i'm using or simply do a search on google for standard rss feed icon

3. Use a "Click Here" Link

Instead of just using the rss feed icon with a simple text link that says something like "RSS Feed" use descriptive text that gives the visitor an instruction, for instance make the text say "Click here for rss feed subscription"

4. Write an RSS Feed Article

Write an article on your blog explaining what an rss feed is and how to subscribe to one. Don't make the mistake in assuming that all the visitors to your blog know what an rss feed or rss feed reader is. Explain to them in a simple to understand article how to subscribe to your rss feed and put a link to that particular article underneath the subscription icon…

I currently link to my "how to subscribe article" from my rss feed options page that i currently link to underneath my rss feed icon…

5. Include All Feedburner Subscriber Buttons

Include a page on your blog that includes all the rss feed subscription buttons that are available through feedburner so visitors are able to use a one click option to subscribe to your feed. Here's the page i currently have set up on my blog which gives this option RSS Feed Options

The whole goal of setting up your rss feed subscription options using the above methods is to give visitors every opportunity possible to become loyal readers of your blog including those who are completely knew to rss feeds…

What are you doing on your blog to capture more rss feed subscribers ??

If your anything like me you'll find that the most frustrating part of writing content for your blog is writing the first sentence of each post, so recently i've been trying a writing technique known as free writing…

The process of free writing is pretty simple but yet very effective. Here's the technique i'm currently using and all i can say is it's extremely effective in getting content written…

Set a countdown timer for a set amount of minutes and just write whatever comes into your head about the particular topic your going to write about. I personally set a timer on my mobile phone for 22 minutes. Don't know why it's specifically 22 minutes it's just a number i've chosen. Just keep writing and don't stop until the time is up…

Do not make any corrections to your writing as you go along, this isn't the point of this technique of writing. The idea is to just keep writing and get your thoughts onto paper or onto your computer screen. If you suddenly get stuck just write something like "i don't know what to write about now" and then wait until your brain starts to work again on the topic your trying to write about…

The idea of this form of writing is basically a complete brain dump on the particular topic you want to discuss. It amazed me the first time i tried it how effective this technique is for getting content written for your blog…

Now once you've been writing for the set amount of minutes and you've done a complete brain dump about the specific topic you wanted to discuss leave what you've written and come back to it in a few hours. What you'll do then is read what you've written down and simply edit your work to include all the best points you wanted to cover..

Some of what you've written down won't make any sense but it doesn't matter

Honestly i didn't believe how effective this form of writing was until i actually tried it myself. It's makes content creation a hell of a lot easier…

Just try it yourself sometime and come back here and tell me what you think i'd love to know!

I thought i'd share with you my own personal experience of entering my first ever blog group writing project over at dailyblogtips last week…

Although i initially entered just for the experience i obviously didn't realize at the time of the huge benefits my blog would receive for just taking part. Here's a list of the benefits my blog has received since entering and the reasons why i highly recommend you take part in blog group writing projects in the future…

1. It's allowed myself and other like minded blog authors to share tips and their own personal experiences. I actually shared the costly mistakes i'd made over the last 5 years or so and received some great feedback from other bloggers thanking me for sharing my own mistakes so they could avoid making the same costly mistakes themselves…

2. Through the group writing project this blog has benefitted from plenty of link love and as of today an extra 121 inbound links to the particular blog post i entered 3 Costly Internet Business Mistakes to Avoid

3. It's allowed me to build relationships with other like minders bloggers within my niche that in the future will be beneficial to all of us…

4. It has helped increase rss feed subscribers by as much as 40% since my entry started getting published on other blogs that were also taking part…

5. It has also increased traffic that i'm receiving from the search engines even though it's just been over a week since my entry was first published…

As you can see from the benefits my blog has received you can understand why i don't care about winning any of the top three $100 prizes that were up for grabs…

I highly recommend that you take part in future group writing projects that are run by the likes of darren from problogger and daniel from dailyblogtips because as you can see from my list above, the benefits are huge…

Here's a little tip for you that i've just started using that hopefully will let me know of any future group writing projects that come up. I've set up some google alerts for phrases such as "blog group writing project" "blog writing project" and "writing project"

I will also share with you on this blog any future blog writing projects i enter…

One of the things that i've recently changed on this blog is the permalink structure of each blog post so as to make the url's of each entry as search engine friendly as possible. (...)

One of the things that i've recently changed on this blog is the permalink structure of each blog post so as to make the url's of each entry as search engine friendly as possible. Before i give you my own personal recommendation of how you should choose your permalink structure lets look at some of the options that are available…

1. Default Wordpress Permalink Structure = http://www.webbusinessblog.com/?p=123

2. Name Based = http://www.webbusinessblog.com/name-of-post/

3. Date and name based = http://www.webbusinessblog.com/2007/07/12/name-of-post/

4. Numeric = http://www.webbusinessblog.com/archives/123

5. Custom = http://www.webbusinessblog.com/category/name-of-post/

My first recommendation is to always use the name of the post in your permalink/url structure which should always include the keywords that your targetting with your post…

For instance the name of the post your reading right now is called "Search Engine Friendly Permalinks" so i have included the name of the post in my permalink structure by using the date and named based option that you set in wordpress by going to "Options and then Permalinks"

It makes perfect sense to use the /%postname%/ structure because in a way your telling the search engine what the particular blog post is about…

So with that said there are a couple of options that are available to you that i recommend you use. There is either the name and date based structure that i am currently using (instructions above) or by just using the name based permalink structure which you can set in the custom field option of wordpress by entering /%postname%/ which then gives you the url of http://www.webbusinessblog.com/name-of-post/

If you do decide to change your permalinks i recommend you use the following wordpress plugin so that you can safely change your permalink structure without breaking the old links to your website Permalinks Migration Plugin for wordpress

Which one of the above to use i am not entirely sure but some of the top bloggers in the industry such as Darren Browse from Problogger and Kevin from Bloggingtips use the date and name of post option so i'm using the same, for the moment anyway…

Which permalink option do you use ?
