Juipo.com Migration Complete

After a week of setting up new server, creating new design, migrating files and database Juipo is finally up and running again. Juipo.com is now hosted on custom VPS server runnung Nginx and we like it so far. This means site will load faster for our visitors and most importantly there will be no more 500 internal server errors. Social Profile

Social Profile is Facebook Style Profile Elgg plugin that extends user profile layout and functionality to be more user friendly like profile on Facebook. It is built on Elgg v1.7.x code. View examples and demo site below.

The middle column holds “Post to wire” form (which is JQuery dropdown link) at the top, tabbed navigation with “Wall” (which is user riverdashboard activity-User Only NOT All) , “Info” (displaying user details) and “Photos” if Tidypics plugin is enabled. When visitor or member is viewing Elgg user profile, by default shows user’s info (details) logged in or logged out and big improvement is that “Wall” displays Only user’s activity in the river and not “All” site users activity like in Riverdashboard. It also includes filter button to display user’s friends activity as well. Left sidebar holds large user icon with couple of links below and all latest items that belong to user whose profile you’re viewing (Friends, Photos, Videos, Events, Blogs and Groups) of course if these plugins are enabled it will display them. This can be edited and rearranged any way you wish according to your niche and needs. Right sidebar has Quick Links on top (links to create and add new Blogs, Groups, etc.) and Google Adsense Ads.

You can View Live Demo (You will need to log in to see Custom Riverdashboard and Profile – username: testuser, password: testuser ) This is not the replacement for profile plugin but rather profile plugin extension so there is no need to replace or disable default Elgg profile plugin. It can be customized according to plugins you have enabled or wish to display and to your Elgg social network niche.

Elgg Three Column Layout

Modifying Elgg to have three (3) columns throughout the whole site is a very good idea as you can display Advertisements in third column and monetize your social network site. Three column riverdashboard is great but site wide three column is much better. This Elgg modification can be done through your existing theme (recommended), or through Elgg core files. It can be implemented on any version of Elgg ( 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 ). As we were adding functionality to Invincible theme, we modified the layout to include third column on every page and display Google Adsense. BTW, This new “Pimped” theme as we call it is full of new features including our new version of three column dashboard and will be available in next week or two.

It’s been a while since Latest Elgg v1.7 was released and need for compatible Elgg Themes has grown as most everyone upgraded their older but still stable Elgg v1.6.1 to new and now latest version 1.7.3. We here at Juipo.com have been busy updating our Elgg v1.6.1 themes and making them compatible for latest Elgg v1.7.3 resulting in many new Free Elgg themes as well as some cool Premium Custom Elgg themes .

We are also working on new set of Free and Premium themes that will be compatible with new publicly not released Elgg v1.8 which is still in testing but promises many new enhancements and features. Things are looking good for OS social networking crowd.

Elgg Login Popup Box

Elgg Login Popup Box is a Custom modification of login links or images on Elgg powered sites with lightBox effect. When user clicks on any “login” link or image, transparent box pops out in the center of the page with login form inside. No need to have login form on your page which frees you from the constraints of the layout. By placing a login link in the header for example, visitors can login from any page not just from homepage where normally login form is displayed on Elgg site.

Remove “All” Tab in Riverdashboard

Removing “all” tab from the river dashboard navigation on Elgg powered site is very simple but you need to know a little bit about PHP and Elgg code. To achieve this you need to override/change a view in the riverdashboard plugin to do that. The file you need to edit is riverdashboard/views/default/riverdashboard nav.php . Now many Elgg site owners don’t know enough PHP or just don’t want to mess with Elgg code so we have created simple plugin that will remove “all” tab from the river dashboard so that you can only see “friends” and “mine” tabs. This will still display all site updates when user first loads the dashboard but will display only two tabs, “friends” and “mine”. To display “friends” updates as default you need to edit index.php in main riverdashboard plugin. We have included that file as well in download below.

Download Riverdashboard Remove “all” plugin.

How to install

Unzip riverdash_remove_all.zip onto your PC.
Upload riverdash_remove_all folder to your mod/ directory on your server
Make sure plugin is at the bottom of the plugin list and “Enable” it.
If you wish to display “friends” updates as default, upload index.php from riverdashboard folder inside the zip file and replace existing index.php in mod/riverdashboard/ directory on your server.

And that’s it. Your new riverdashboard will now display “friends” updates on default and show only “friends” and “mine” tabs in riverdashboard navigation. Enjoy your new custom Elgg riverdashboard and post any comments or problems below.

Blackpod With Dropdown Menu – Elgg Theme

Updated version of Free Elgg Theme Blackpod but with JavaScript dropdown “Tools” menu in top-bar compatible with Elgg 1.6.1 and now with latest Elgg v1.7 (including 1.7.1 and 1.7.2). Some of the users that have too many plugins enabled in their Elgg installation had a problem of some links disappearing from the menu bar or miss-alignment with original Blackpod. So we have released this version. It has all the same features as original: tested in Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and Internet Explorer 8 and IE 5, SEO Friendly Titles: Reversed Sitename and page/item title so sitename shows after page title, Elgg Topbar is removed completely and all items show under header in new bar (except messages), Messages (if any) displayed on left of search, Copyright year in footer automatically updates current year and more.

Once again we offer two versions, one with Text as logo (to save on bandwith and server resources) and one with Image as logo.
