MPG (Moving Picture Experts Group)

RM was later developed by VBR compression in order to widen its work capability. You have to install Real Player program or Real Alternative Code pack to use the RM or RMVB file.

WMV (Windows Media Video)

When other company starts launching their newly compressed video code with less property, there is no reason for a big company like Microsoft to ignore the competition. Microsoft’s WMV is similar to RMVB of Real Networks as this stream download is very popular in internet. WMA (Window Media Audio) is a name of Microsoft’s audio file. You can watch the whole video but might not be able to select specific scene if you don’t fully download the file in to your computer. Yet WMV is better than RMVB which doesn’t allow you to watch the video at all if you don’t fully download the file. You also need to have Windows Media Player version that equal to or higher than WMV file, otherwise you will not be able to play it.

MKV (Matroska)

MKV is a newly launched file which helps reducing large file into a smaller one. Comparing to MPG, capacities of MKV including its sharpness, video duration and property are better than MPG especially judging by how it could combine numbers of video file with sound track and subtitle altogether in one. Plus, MKV also distributes its open source video file for development for free while other programs like Windows Media Player could not be played without this video file installation.

ASF (Advance Systems Format)

ASF is developed by Microsoft just like WMV with equal capability. It could be played with Windows Media Player when the video code is already installed because ASF can encode various video file as same as AVI. Another advantage of ASF comparing to WMV is that it can carries data like producer data, date and time, title, and other details similarly to MP3 file’s tag.

FLV (Flash Video)

FLV is a Flash file which is very well-liked in internet network. It could be seen in many web pages because of the global use of browser with plug-in installation and Adobe Flash Player program. The advantage of FLV is stream downloading and multiple operating systems. FLV only supports some of video codes and usually with low quality and short length of video clip, so we mostly see the file in news, variety, and video share websites.

3GP or 3GPP

With a development of Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), 3GP or 3GPP is especially made for cellular phones. In fact, 3GP is a part of MPEG-4, but its quality is shorten to reduce the file size which causes a certain impact to its lower quality of visual and audio sharpness. 3GP’s mono audio also requires additional programs to play such as VLC Player, GOM player, and Windows Media Player Classic. 3GP is recommended to use with only cell phone.

MP4

MP4 or MPEG-4 is a file that combines all advantages of MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and other related files such as 3D and composition together. It also provides a stream download and carries load of data like subtitle, artist and record label. Plus, we are able to transfer data through internet with high compression rate while MP4 is playing. The quality is acceptable even when we use a low bit. MP4 can effectively be used with both video and audio. In overall aspect, MP4 is very apt for publicizing because of its high quality, less property and ability to play with both video and audio file. However, it is important to set video code to get a full operation from it.

Cascading Style Sheets or CSS, is a very powerful tool in web development. It is invaluable for designers to become expert in Stylesheet language yet surprising numbers of designers are still sticking to HTML design methods of past years.

CSS requires training and experience though it is nonetheless a relatively simple mechanism.  The underlying concept is that a website designer can effectively designing tailor-made web pages and control design styles from external files. This simply means that there is power to control layout and design on multiple web pages, from a single file. This cannot be done by embedded HTML.  Using CSS to design a website simply makes for a more efficient design and can save much time in designing page layout and especially making broad-scale changes. 

How CSS Works:

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) store the Styles that define how the HTML elements are to be displayed. The Styles are usually added to HTML 4.0 to solve a common problem that re-editing embedded HTML in all pages require significant time.  Editing only one external CSS file will result in changes on all the pages designated by the CSS file.

In other words, if you control all the pages in your website with a CSS file, you can make changes to all pages with only one coding change in the CSS file.  As well, because a CSS web developers applies styles by linking to CSS external files, the file size of the page is reduced and the page size is optimized for download speed and search engine indexing. The advent of CSS has many advantages and is simply superior to page-by-page HTML coding.

Why CSS?

1. Easy to maintain - The power of CSS is that a single CSS file can be used to control the look of multiple HTML documents.
2. Smaller file sizes - This can help decrease the file sizes of HTML documents.
3. More control over style - CSS can be easily used to add margins, borders, padding, background color, and background images to any HTML element.

This is just a simple introduction to Cascading Style Sheets. If you are interested in employing CSS into your web pages, you may to research more but trust me it should be a standard that you insist upon.

1. Create the template with Adobe Photoshop. Right off we will assume you have an existing image or the skills to build a website template.
2. Make a Guide (greenish blue lines) for each part of your template to separate main portions of the design. Drag the Guide from the horizontal side of Ruler (to show Ruler press ctrl + R or go to menu tab “View > Rulers”) and drop and the edge of each section of the template. The Guide will be greenish blue color and in the image below it has been highlighted to be more noticeable.
   
3. To slice images – Click Slice Tool at Tool Panel (or Press K as a hot key) then you will see the Slice Select Tool option below the main menu tab. Click the Slice from Guides button at the Slice Select Tool option. The program will show each visible slice section with the numbers.
4. Save for Web & Devices – Go to the Main Menu Tab File > Save for Web & Devices then the Dialog Box will be shown. After that, use the Slice Tool to select a slice or press Shift + click to make each slice section that you’d like to export to be visible. Choose the file format as jpeg or gif and then press Save to set the option of “Save Optimized As” dialog as below:-
   • Choose save as type to be html and images (*.html)
   • Choose slices to be “All slices”
5. Adobe Photoshop program will then generate *.html file with the images of each slice section inside images folder. Now you get an HTML file with the sliced images embedded in it as shown in this code below:-

Fixed width layout is all the layouts that were set into specific immoveable width and it’s various in units measurement, normally pixels but points, inches, centimeters and etc. also can be used. The most important character of a fixed-width layout is that the visitors can not change the width, except when they resize the browser window or change the text size. The designer has full control over fixed-width layout where the different page elements end up. The layout appears almost identical in all graphical browsers and you eliminate nasty surprises where images end up on top of text blocks. However there is no fixed width that suits all output devices.

(Px stands for pixel that are specified as a relative unit in the CSS specification, but it is relative to the viewing distance and for all practical intents and purposes it should be considered to be an absolute unit.)

Liquid or fluid layout means that all page components have their width specified as a percentage of the viewport’s (browser window’s) width. If the reader makes the window wider or narrower, the design adapts, but it isn’t affected by changes in text size. The reader will never have to scroll sideways for any monitor size and when you need to print it you don’t have to worry about any part ending up off-page. But there are 2 disadvantages; the lines of text become way too long on a large monitor, and overlap is hard to avoid in small windows when a column becomes too narrow to contain long words. However you can use CSS to fix both problems (max-width and min-width), but IE browser doesn’t support any of those.

Elastic design means the page components’ widths are specified in units that are relative to the text size (em or ex). A layout will grow as the reader changes the text size, but changes remain unaffected by in the viewport size. An elastic layout has most of the same advantages and disadvantages as a fixed-width design, except that it doesn’t break because of changes in text size.

Hybrids A hybrid layout is a blend of 2-3 of the aforementioned methods. For instance, the overall page width could be liquid, while a menu column is elastic.

These differences primarily affect usability. Lateral scrolling is never popular. As far as accessibility is concerned, there is less of a problem – except for non-scrollable devices. Print style sheets should always be liquid, because a fixed-width or elastic design always runs the risk of becoming wider than the paper.

Which One Should I Choose?

It depends on your main things on the web page for example advanced graphical layouts that rely on the exact placement of images are suitable for fixed width. In contrast a page where the text content is the most important might work best in a hybrid where the main column is liquid and the side columns are elastic. 7. Same as number 6, except hide the enlarged image from the normal page also hide the product description; you should only show a short description on the normal page.

8. Whenever you need to make a link, you should have a “Title Link” for the text link and “Alternate Text” for the image link, this will help visitors know what’s inside the link and it’s good for SEO.

5. TIFF (.tiff) - This is an extremely good quality and flexible format, save to Cross-platform so it can be opened with PC and Mac, also you can save in many color modes (RGB, Index Color, Gray Scale, and CMYK). So this is the best one for printed matters work.

6. EPS (.eps) – This is a format that can be opened in Illustrator programs, but still can be opened with Photoshop programs that support Vector and Raster graphics and can save by Lab, CMYK, RGB, Index Color, Duotone and Bitmap.

7. PICT (.pic) – The standard file format for 32 bit of Macintosh, can show by 16.7 million colors also can be a compressive file, but can show in RGB mode only.

8. PNG (.png) – This format is good for websites, generally similar properties of Gif format but better quality (16 million colors), it is estimated that GIF format will be replaced by PNG format in the future.

9. RAW (.raw) – This is a newer file format it is good for real graphics, raw does not compress anything which makes raw format a very big file size.

1. You used a FRAME on a website but in fact it has more disadvantages than merits, for example visitors cannot bookmark your website and it’s not easy when they want to print your webpage, if possible you need to avoid using a FRAME.

5. Websites without stable navigation, an example is some pages have no HOME menu so when visitors want to go back to the homepage they cannot and maybe they won’t come back to your website anymore.

6. Very long web pages, according by standard static visitors will not read some very long content on one page, so you need to share your contents to the other pages in balance.

7. Confusing layout, don’t forget visitors will not understand the layout as well as you, so please make a sitemap and if your websites have too many pages try to use a search engine on your website.

8. Don’t use many link colors it will make visitors confused between link text and normal text.

9. Your website has no new updates that make visitors want to come back, so you need to always update your website if you can, at least one time per month.

10. Your website takes a long time for loading, if that’s the case you need to think about optimizing your graphic files and fixing your code like a JAVA script or something and try to resize and remove something that is unnecessary.

• If it is possible to insert a caption below the image please do it. The caption should be the same as your targeted keywords of the content.
• Title the image similar to the caption.
• The image tag should contain a title tag for the image and alternate text that relate to targeted keywords, caption and content. Or you can use the same as targeted keywords for alternate text or title tag for image

Exchanging links with webmasters who are not reciprocating properly is of no value to your site. True reciprocal link exchange is of great value. I have even read some seo blogs that said that the reciprocal link had died. From my experience working on customer’s websites, the reciprocal link is still important for search engine ranking. All my above mentioned methods will take more time but it will increase your sites link popularity.

Blogs can also get more traffic for your site. You can also get more keyword variety. I have some tips from my experience. You can target a general high traffic keyword but have little chance of ranking well or barely any traffic. Or you can shoot for a keyword that gets a moderate level of targeted traffic resulting in more subscribers and some profit. I like to call this a “reachable keyword” or “profitable keyword”. Whatever you call them. This is the most important thing: They may not give you the most traffic, but they often bring the most profit.

The most important thing for a blogger is they will always avoid duplicating content from other sites and their own site. Search engines like Google said on their official central blog about “Deftly dealing with duplicate content” and “duplicate content caused by URL parameters, and you”

Make sure that you know how your content is displayed by your cms (content management system) like Wordpress, joomla, etc. sometimes it will often display the same content in multiple format.

When you create forums or chat rooms, you are providing your visitors a place to voice their comments, opinions and interact with you or other customers.  Even somebody with negative comments is appropriate.  If a website has a forum or a chat room, this will be place for customers or visitors to complain about services or products. But in my opinion a forum can help website owners to explain about their services or products and can satisfy customers more.  As conversations build up, a sense of community will also follow and your visitors will come back to your site almost religiously every day.

Blog

Keep an online blog on your site and keep it updated with latest news about yourself. Human beings are curious creatures and they will keep their eyes glued to the monitor if you post fresh news frequently. You will also build up your credibility as you are proving to them that there is also a real life person behind the website not a robot.

Polls or Surveys

Survey, sometimes called a poll, is a study of what people think or believe about a topic or question. Surveys are usually done by questionnaire, interview, or observation. Polls and surveys are other forms of interaction that you should add to your site. They provide a quick way for visitors to voice their opinions and to get involved in your website. Be sure to publish polls or surveys that are strongly relevant to the target market of your website to keep them interested and to find out the results.

Update frequently with fresh content

Update your site frequently with fresh content so that every time your visitors come back they will read your updated news or content. This is the most effective method of attracting returning visitors. This is not only to get visitors back but Search Engine like live site too. So keep your site updated with fresh bites!

You need to make it an easy layout so that it is convenient for a customer or site map navigator, and try to put a “contact us” link on every page so that you make sure you are not missing contact from your customers.

7. Show your skill
Don’t forget to create a page that will show your skills and performance, such as if you have been a winner for awards or your work experience.

8. Tell the customer, who you are?
Include your history, hobbies, interests and your personality. Nobody wants to work with a secret or invisible person.

9. Profile, Resume

1. Simple is the best

Like the saying goes “A picture is worth a thousand words” so you don’t need to put too much effect, or something very difficult. It might confuse people who see it and they might not be able to understand the true concept.

2. Don’t lose the real message

First thing that you need to decide is; what is it that you want people to know about you or your company? A good logo should have one concept, one idea.

3. Immortal logo

It is good if your logo can be used for the next 10 or 20 years. Although it’s impossible to see into the future you can estimate if it is something that will be acceptable in years to come

Some companies still stand by their original logo; they want to create something stable and have one image for them, so customers will have loyalty for their logo and brand.

The best way to do something like this, research past and present logos and it will help you understand the revolutions and trends.

4. Vector graphic, the good choice for logo design

Complex 3d effect or 3d rendering will not serve you well, clean, simple and very limited colors are better. If you have the original logo it will have more effect and you can re-design again by draft and cut-out by Illustrator or Corel Draw program. A good logo should not have more than 2-3 colors.

5. Adaptability logo

You can make the logo flexible, meaning you can change something very easily and not loose the original image. If the company has the original logo but they have many products and they want to us a different logo for each product some things will need to change.

Maybe if you have a stand alone image in the logo you can just change the word or colors, but can keep the original image. When customers see it, it will look like the original one.

6. Memorable logo

The best logo design should always stay in the customers mind, simple lines and recognizable shapes will be easy to recall from memory.

For example, when you close your eyes and think about some logos, you will see some logos in you mind, you must then think of why that logos design is memorable.

7. Choose the right colors

Color is a very important property for logo design, besides good shape and good concept; you need to spend time thinking and researching about the color.

There are many articles to tell you about how to choose colors for your design, experience will make you better for this topic and you need to think about your main target, marketing and the type of business logo.

In fact don’t have the theory that you can tell right from wrong, because customers will tell you if your logo is a success or not in the end.

8. Try to make your logo Unique

This is not easy to do, but you need to research competitor’s logos in similar businesses, if possible try to avoid a design in the same style and keep obvious on your logo, otherwise your logo will look like the copy of the competitor company and that will look bad on your company.

9. Include sign of your company to your logo

What is the best way to tell customers what you are doing? By your logo, general designers will choose the main product and adaptability to a simple graphic logo, but if you do not have a product and your business is a service, you need to create something that can explain your service.

Now I have a technique to create 3D backgrounds from Photoshop and it’s very easy!!

1. Create a new file for 500 pixel X 500 pixel and then fill the black color into the background

2. Go on Filter > Render > Lens Flare in the menu and don’t change anything set as default, and it should look like this

3. And then go on Filter > Artistic > Fresco, and as before don’t change anything, now you will have something like this

4. Select All( Ctrl + A) and then Edit > copy to create a new file for a bigger size 800 pixel X 800 pixel, fill the black color to background, and click Edit > paste, adjust to center.

So now you will have 2 layers, now you can merge the 2 layers to 1 layer (Ctrl + E)

5. Go on menu Filter > Stylize > Extrude, set the properties like this

Now it should look like the example below.

Repeat step 5 again for more shape, if you don’t want just ignore this step.

6. Adjustment any color that you want, (Ctrl + U)

Have fun!

First of all, you need to know the types and the different graphic file formats and also web graphic optimization to compress your graphic files.

Different graphic file formats are varied compression schemes, and some formats work better than others and this will vary according to the objective of each website.

Generally graphic designers use web file formats JPEG and GIF. A third format PNG is available but has been of little use because of poor browser support (E.G. internet explorer 6 does not support).

GIF files

GIF (Graphic Interchange Format) is an efficient means to transmit images across data networks. The overwhelming majority of images on the website are now in GIF format. And major web browsers support the GIF format. GIF file is a compression format to keep file sizes at a minimum, limited to 8-bit (256 colors).

One important property of the GIF format is it adds support for transparent colors (graphic without the background) and for interlaced.

The GIF format is not good enough for some websites that want the best quality, but you can use for simple graphics (E.G. cartoon, abstract graphic that are not real photos).

JPEG files

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) compression type, full-color images (24 bit, true color). JPEG format generally use for a photographs.

Newer properties of JPEG file is “progressive JPEG”, same properties seen in interlaced GIF.

Mostly JPEG format is the best for hard graphic websites, artwork websites, photo gallery websites and others that want to show a specified graphic.

When comparing between JPEG and GIF, JPEG format takes a longer time for loading on websites more than a GIF format, but is much better quality.

PNG files

PNG (Portable Network Graphic) is an image format developed as an alternative to the GIF image format. The main properties are nearly the same as GIF format but advanced for better quality.

PNG graphics features include a full range of color depths, compressive, and support for transparence. But they are a big file size and some web browsers do not support it.

Summary

- Use GIF files format for simple graphic, cartoon and transparent graphic.

- Use JPEG files format for photographs, hard edge graphics, and every graphic that you want to be the best quality.

- Use PNG files format for the same reason as GIF but you want a better quality, beware for some browsers do not support.

Ideally, you should select forums that are well established, spam free, moderated, and have a lot of active members.  It is also useful to look the forms that have a signature line allows you to place your web site URL as a link.

This list of strategies is far from complete but should provide a good start for some ideas for obtaining additional traffic for your web site, even when it may seem like a daunting task.

People are usually asking plenty of questions in Google Groups and if you happen to know the answer, great. You can respond to the group, but you can take it beyond the group by polishing up the answer and blogging it. Of course, it should go without saying that you shouldn’t reveal any personal information about the inquirer.

A discussion may even spark a heated debate that you can chime in on from your blog, and also get a wider group of people involved. Be sure that you also check the group’s rules to make sure that certain topics aren’t confidential and to be contained within the group environment first.

Contribute to the Discussion

You don’t have to be a know it all to participate in the rhetoric. Ask questions or garner opinions about a topic. Whenever the opportunity does come up to answer a question, do so. And don’t be afraid to put your opinion out there in an open discussion.

Add a Tasteful Signature

Your signature doesn’t need to be big and flashy to get noticed. Simply signing your name, followed by your web address, should be enough. If you participate regularly and offer insightful commentary, people will be more inclined to click through to see what else you have to offer.

But, before you run off to start crafting your new signature, make sure that the group you’ve joined allows them. Some groups specifically request that you don’t use signatures or that you keep them under a certain number of lines.

Play By the Rules

This is common sense, but bears repeating. Various groups will have their own code of conduct. Not playing by the rules can land you in a kettle of hot water. You may end up being labeled a spammer or kicked out by the group admin.

Conduct yourself as you would being a guest in someone’s home, and you can’t go wrong. If you keep your nose clean, get involved, and show others that you are passionate about a topic, then you’ll be opening many doors for networking and growing your website.
