Box.net has announced they have made some significant changes to the system. Starting today, Box is rolling out full-text search capabilities to a select number of Box business customers. Much like desktop search in Mac OS X, Windows Vista and Google’s Desktop Search, Box’s search engine will now display results based on text content within files stored on Box, including: – Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files – PDF, TXT and CSV files – Box Web Documents – File descriptions added by the user.

The previous search engine only displayed results based on file and folder names and user-assigned tags. They have started testing this with a few customers, including one that has more than 300,000 documents on Box. They will roll full-text search out to all of our business customers over the next few weeks. It’s big news for businesses that want to put their entire file system on Box. Business customers automatically get a complete and integrated search solution without the hassle, high cost, high minimum seat requirements and pre-set document limits common to other enterprise search solutions. Box provides businesses with content management, collaboration and social features and now, full-text search, all in one product. Businesses do not have to buy expensive add-ons or thousands of licenses to get these features, as they would in the case of Microsoft SharePoint.

We’ve switched ads from AdBrite back to Google Adsense. We were having issues with ads loading slowly causes the site to load slowly as well. We think the switch will alleviate the problem. Also some AdBrite ads slipped through the cracks and some annoying ads with sound loaded. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have caused our users and hope it did not deter you from using the site.

We at WebDev2.0 would like to wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

So here at Webdev2.0 we try to post a wide variety of sites for our users. We want to make sure we find the best sites for our readers and want to make sure that every reader that comes across the site can find a site that is more useful to them on their everyday tasks. While you may not find a new site every day, we hope that we can build a large enough directory where you can find a small group of sites that you would otherwise never use.

The site has been up for almost a year now and we think that we have done a decent job in trying to achieve our goal. Though we would have like to be more consistent and post more posts than we did, we are pretty happy with the progress. When we first started a lot of these sites were pretty unique. Web 2.0 was just still up and coming. Now as the year has passed, we’ve definately reviewed replicas of other sites. Some sites are only slightly different than another. In our opinion, this is both good and bad. A good thing about it is it gives our readers a choice, but sometimes there’s nothing really that differentiates the site from another and it doesn’t really make it beneficial to the readers.

We want to keep reviewing the best sites possible. If you think there is a site that isn’t in our directory and it’s either really unique to the community or is a far better product than something that already exists, please submit it to the site. Last week the transition to a new server for this site was complete. It is now being hosted by Own3DOutput in a colo in Oakland, CA. Hopefully we’ll see very little downtime on the site and much speedier transfer rates. I think it has been going fairly well so far. Feel free to leave any feedback regarding the setup. Thanks.
