I use Internet Explorer from beginning. But last few days, I’m fed up of IE for excessive pop-ups and slow downloading speed. My friends are asking me to install Firefox. I know little about firefox. Is it safe to install firefox?

Our Answer
In short answer, Yes, Firefox is much safer than Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Mozilla Firefox is a fasting growing browser, almost 25% internet users are now using Firefox. It has better security system, much faster downloading options and many new features than Internet Explorer. You can download the latest version of Firefox from here.

However, you should check your computer for virus, spyware and other malicious programs with a good anti-virus before installing any program, especially browsers. Otherwise as soon as you install the browser, all these malicious programs will corrupt the new installation system files.

Our Answer
Regardless of your internet download speed, you cannot make money online unless you are trying blogging and displaying advertisement on your blog, selling items on ebay, some sort of freelance job, data entry etc. At first, try to find your speciality and subjects that interest you. Then search on Google, you will find different type of jobs related to home base internet job.

Your Question
What are .tel domain names? How I can have a .tel domain name?

Our Answer
Information with .tel (top-level domain or TLD) is held directly within the Domain Name System (DNS), so that data can be retrieved ‘on the fly’. Thus, with .tel you don’t need to build, host or manage a website because all your information will be on the internet under your own unique domain name, say bono.tel or emma.tel. A .tel address, lets you store email addresses, links to personal websites, identities for social networks, phone numbers and street addresses.

Hosting company 123-reg offers the .tel domain name in the UK, with prices starting from £9.99 a year.

Our Answer
Domain names are registered from 1 year or more. Some domains like .uk are registered for at least 2 years. However, you can check when your domain name is due for renewal by using the WHOIS facility. Your website hosting company will probably contact you before your domain name expires to ask whether you wish to renew it for another year or more.

Use Whois Service for find more details about your registered domain name.

Some people has search option in their websites that says Powered By Google. How can I add Google Search to my website like them?

Our Answer
One of the most important prerequisites of a website is that it should be easy to navigate but, when you’re putting together a site with lots of content, things can get tricky. The easiest and most common way to help your visitors find exactly what they are looking for is to add a search facility. Visit the Google Custom Search website and click the button labelled as ‘Create a Custom Search Engine’ to create your own search engine for your website. If you want to learn more, please visit it’s help section.

I’ve removed some pages from my website. But I lost the records of those pages. Now I need a tool to find out which pages are not available any more. Is there any easy way to check my website for broken links?

Our Response
There are some tools available to find broken links. Among them Xenu’s Link Sleuth and W3C’s Link Checker are the best and free tools we recommend. They lets you check your web pages for broken links. It’s a good practice to check the links on every page you put up at the time that you put it up because it’ll safeguard you from losing precious visitors who get frustrated by ‘page not found’ errors.

There are pages in my website that I don’t want any search engine to index and show in search results. I don’t know much about how search engines work. Can I stop a search engine from indexing all or part of my website?

Our Answer
You can add the following line to your webpage header, before </header> tag: <meta name = “robots” content = “no index, nofollow” />. This stops the page from being indexed and any links being followed. You can also create a robots.txt file that lists of-limits areas and upload to your root folder.

To exclude all Search Engine robots from the entire server

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

To allow all robots complete access

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

To exclude all robots from part/folder of the server

User-agent: *
Disallow: /temp/
Disallow: /root/
Disallow: /cgi-bin/

To exclude all robots from files of the server

User-agent: *
Disallow: /welcome.html
Disallow: /admin.php
Disallow: /junk.html

You can find details of how to do this at www.robotstxt.org/robotstxt.html.

I’m a newbie. Sometimes I hear people calling website as “Web Portal”. But when I asking them, they can’t explain the difference between Websites and Webportals? Do they really differ from each other?

Our Response
A portal is generally a vehicle by which to gain access to a multitude of ‘services’. A web site is a destination in itself.

As such the term website refers to a location on the internet (see this) that is unique and can be accessed through a URL (see this). By that definition a web portal is in fact also a website.

However there is a distinction between the two terms based on the subject and content of the website.

A website is also a web portal if;

It transmits information from several independent sources that can be, but not necessarily are, connected in subject; thus offering a public service function for the visitor which is not restricted to presenting the view(s) of one author.
