Calling all student programmers, developers, and entrepreneurs! The Web Startup Society is looking for students willing to present a 5 minute demo for our third DemoCampUofT event.

What Can I Demo?

Anything related to web or mobile startups (i.e. API mashups, browser extensions, android apps) or you can simply show a personal project you’ve worked on (Note: projects need not be complete, well-presented pitches are also welcome).

Why Should I Demo?

So many reasons. You will get free publicity for your work, a chance to market your idea to students and established companies. You will also get instant feedback, suggestions for improvement, or comments that give you new ideas to integrate into your project. You also learn how to speak in public, gain valuable experience in presenting yourself and getting your ideas across. You may also attract someone to work with you in your project as you network, or possibly to fund your initiative. Or you can simply do it because its fun!

How Do I Register?

Attention Startups: In partnership with UofT Career Centre, we bring you Startup Job Fair! – an event that aims to connect Startups with UofT Students via intership, part-time, and full-time job opportunities.

When & Where: April 7th, 2011, 1pm to 4pm @ Career Centre, Koffler Student Services Centre, 214 College Street, Toronto, ON.

Some of the past democamp presenters showed up so it was really nice being to catch up with them, and there were some interesting guests like Kevin from DentalChimp and Andrew from JetCoopers.

Although it was a good lunch, the space we booked was cramped and it did allow people to move freeely to talk to other attendees. Next time, we’ll find a better venue, where more cross interaction could happen.

James Cash, 4th year Engineering Science, an enthusiasts in arcane languages such as Lisp,Haskell, and Clojure, created a chrome extension in a few days just for fun. Bijan Vaez,on the other hand, built a cross-platform mobile event guide that allows event organizers to easily manage events details in realtime.

Some chose to solve hard problems that a lot of people face. For instance, Lori Lee and Andrew Danks created LoveUT to improve the dating lives of UofT students. PhD student, Vincent Cheung, who was recently named as “Global Graduate Student Entrepreneur of the Year”, built ShapeCollage to solve a personal problem – what to do with the hundreds and thousands of photos that stuck on his computer? If you’re looking to meet people who wish to build their own startup or who wants to work on a side project, then we aim to help you achieve that. Currently at our  2nd year of operation, we’re still shaping the future direction of the club so we’re definitely open to fresh ideas.
