One element often overlooked in web marketing campaigns is the value of images to brand development and brand marketing. The screenshot is from a Google Images search for ‘RI Product Photography’ and is dominated my photography brand ‘George Ross Photography’(highlighted in red). Clearly, I am very pleased about this but how can you create results like this for your business?

Include the keyword in the filename e.g. keyword.jpg

Include the keyword in the image Alt tag e.g. alt=” keyword”

Add a physical watermark to your images to present your brand visually and make an ownership statement

Add copyright information to the image IPTC information (Not for SEO proposes but for copyright protection)

Create an images.xml sitemap

Upload the sitemap to Google Webmasters and Bing Webmasters accounts

In an ideal world, it would be optimal if you could wrap copy around your images which discuss the keyword used in the image.

If you have some images that you do not want The Google Image Crawler from locating and publicizing then update your Robots.txt using the following:

User-agent: Googlebot-Image
Disallow: /images/dogs.jpg

In this example the image dogs.jpg will be blocked from the Googlebot image crawler.

Like all aspects of SEO, attention to detail is of paramount importance.

Snapchat recently experienced a security breach where 4,600,000 users had their user information hacked…

Usernames

Phone Numbers

This is the full post from Snapchat (Read it on the Snapchat Blog)

When we first built Snapchat, we had a difficult time finding other friends that were using the service. We wanted a way to find friends in our address book that were also using Snapchat – so we created Find Friends. Find Friends is an optional service that asks Snapchatters to enter their phone number so that their friends can find their username. This means that if you enter your phone number into Find Friends, someone who has your phone number in his or her address book can find your username.

A security group first published a report about potential Find Friends abuse in August 2013. Shortly thereafter, we implemented practices like rate limiting aimed at addressing these concerns. On Christmas Eve, that same group publicly documented our API, making it easier for individuals to abuse our service and violate our Terms of Use.

We acknowledged in a blog post last Friday that it was possible for an attacker to use the functionality of Find Friends to upload a large number of random phone numbers and match them with Snapchat usernames. On New Years Eve, an attacker released a database of partially redacted phone numbers and usernames. No other information, including Snaps, was leaked or accessed in these attacks.

We will be releasing an updated version of the Snapchat application that will allow Snapchatters to opt out of appearing in Find Friends after they have verified their phone number. We’re also improving rate limiting and other restrictions to address future attempts to abuse our service.

We want to make sure that security experts can get ahold of us when they discover new ways to abuse our service so that we can respond quickly to address those concerns. The best way to let us know about security vulnerabilities is by emailing us: security@snapchat.com.

The Snapchat community is a place where friends feel comfortable expressing themselves and we’re dedicated to preventing abuse.

Instagram introduced ads on November 1 and today we’re sharing results from some of our first sponsored campaigns in the home feed on mobile.

Ads on Instagram are designed to support brands focused on reaching large audiences with memorable, high quality content. Instagram thinks this aligns with the way people and brands already use Instagram – sharing photos and videos that capture a moment, inspire others, or shift perceptions.

For this analysis, we focused on metrics such as reach, ad recall, and awareness, which reflect the value and effectiveness of brand campaigns, rather than on social metrics such as comments, likes and followers.

Results from the first four completed Instagram campaigns:

Reach

All four initial ad campaigns measured were successful at delivering the broad reach our advertisers were seeking

The marketers achieved a high impact with a very low average frequency of ad impressions per user

Levi’s reached 7.4 million people in the U.S. across a nine-day period, targeting people aged 18-34

Ben & Jerry’s reached 9.8 million people in the U.S. over eight days, targeting people aged 18-35

Ad Recall

Across the four campaigns, there was a 32-point incremental lift in ad recall per campaign for people who were repeatedly exposed to a particular campaign versus control groups

Awareness

Across the four campaigns, there was a ten-point incremental lift in brand message awareness per campaign for people who were repeatedly exposed to a particular campaign versus control groups

In particular, seventeen percent of people who saw a single ad for Ben & Jerry’s Scotchy Scotch Scotch-flavored ice cream not only became aware of the new flavor, they also associated it with the brand

A very common question asked with respect to Facebook Business pages is “What is the difference between Reach and Likes?”

Likes

The is simple the number of your fans that have clicked on the ‘Like button on your pages

From the Facebook blog…

Top News

If you haven’t logged onto Facebook in a while, your home page will default to this view.

Top News shows popular stories from your favorite friends and Pages, many of which have gained lots of attention since the last time you checked. In this view, you might find out about an old friend becoming engaged or see a hilarious video that your sister posted and that tons of your friends liked.

Since Top News is based on an algorithm, it uses factors such as how many friends are commenting on a post to aggregate content that you’ll find interesting. It displays stories based on their relevance, rather than in chronological order.
