“A strong and shallow 6.9 magnitude earthquake in central Philippines has killed at least 26 people and left over 140 injured, authorities said on Wednesday.

“The epicenter of the quake was about 19 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of the coastal city of Bogo in the central Cebu province. It was 5 kilometers (3 miles) deep in the earth. The earthquake struck at 9:59 p.m. local time (1359 GMT) on Tuesday night.”

“Retired New York financier Howard Rubin and his former personal assistant were charged in a federal indictment Friday with running a years-long sex trafficking ring that allegedly involved violence so severe that one woman required surgery, prosecutors said.

“Joseph Nocella Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said Rubin used his “wealth to mislead and recruit women to engage in commercial sex acts, where Rubin then tortured women beyond their consent, causing lasting physical and/or psychological pain, and in some cases physical injuries.””

“”48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty has learned a suspect has been identified in the 1991 murders of four teenage girls in an Austin, Texas, yogurt shop. This is according to one of the original investigators who worked the case.

“That suspect is Robert Eugene Brashers, who is deceased, says retired Austin detective John Jones.

“Brashers is a serial killer and rapist who committed at least three murders between 1990 and 1998 in the states of South Carolina and Missouri. He died in January 1999 by suicide during a standoff with police. The gun he used to shoot himself is believed to be consistent with a bullet casing found in a drain inside the yogurt shop, says Jones.”
