Crews will perform deck patching on the Mound City and Martin Luther King Overpasses. Both bridges are located on Interstate 40, just west of the Mississippi River. The work will reduce I-40 westbound traffic to one lane on Thursday morning, October 10th between 12:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be repairing navigational lights on the Highway 70 White River Bridge, just east of DeValls Bluff. The work will require the alternating closure of the eastbound and westbound lanes on Wednesday, October 9th between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Traffic will be controlled using flaggers, cones, and warning signs.

The lane closures are necessary while crews perform routine maintenance to the driving surface. The lane closures are planned for short distances at various locations between West Randall Wobbe Lane and East Don Tyson Parkway on Highway 71 and between South Thompson Street and South Pleasant Street on Highway 412.

Lane closures are expected to be in place only between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday (October 8 - October 10). Adjustment of the times of the lane closures may be required due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

In one phase of work, crews will be striping Interstate 430 northbound. The work will reduce I-430 northbound traffic to one lane within the Big Rock Interchange. The closures will be Tuesday night, October 8th through Friday morning October 11th between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The work will require the westbound inside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, October 7th through Thursday, October 10th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

The closures will be Wednesday night, October 2nd through Thursday morning, October 3rd between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will be performing construction activities. This will reduce traffic to one lane. Traffic will be controlled using warning signs, barrels, and flaggers. Wide loads will not be allowed during this time.

The lane closures will now begin Saturday, September 28th and continue until Friday, October 11th. They will only take place between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Originally, crews had not planned to work Saturday and Sunday.

Crews will be repairing the bridge located over Little River, southeast of Etowah, in western Mississippi County. The work will require closing the bridge to all traffic. Highway 140 is the primary route between Osceola and Lepanto.

The closure will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30th. The closure is expected to last approximately six weeks. Drivers will be detoured using Highways 136 and 77.

Crews will be repairing the railing on the Main Street Bridge. The damage was caused by a traffic accident. The work will require the northbound inside lane to be closed from just south of Redmond Road to just north of the Main Street Bridge.

The closure will be Monday, September 30th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be restriping Interstate 630 westbound lanes between Barrow Road and Shackleford Road. This will reduce I-630 westbound traffic to one lane in that area. The closures will occur Saturday, September 28th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The work will require the westbound inside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, September 30th through Thursday, October 3rd, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

As a result of a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon, September 24, 2013, in Crawford County, officers discovered approximately 100 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $200,000. The drugs were discovered in the bed of a pickup truck.

The occupants of the truck are identified as Jason Price, 42, and John Magnus, 48, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were reportedly traveling from New Mexico to Tennessee. Both were arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and were being held at the Crawford County Detention Center. They appeared in court this morning where their bond was set at $15,000 each.

As a reminder, drivers will need to turn left on Hermitage Road to reach their destination. Left turns are no longer allowed from northbound Shackleford Road to Financial Centre Parkway.

Beginning Tuesday, September 24, 2013, the outside, northbound lane of I-540 will be closed between Porter Road and the Highway 16/Highway 112S (Wedington Road) interchanges at various times from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to allow for the placement of precast concrete barrier wall. The placement of the barrier wall is expected to take up to 3 nights to complete.

The inspection will require the outside lane to be closed alternating between the northbound and southbound lanes beginning Tuesday, September 24th and continuing through Thursday, September 26th. The lane closure will be in effect between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, weather permitting.

Entergy crews will be working in a manhole on Markham Street. This work will require the southbound inside lane on the Main Street Bridge to be closed Sunday, September 22nd between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using warning signs and cones.

Crews will be repairing the railing on the Main Street Bridge and the median wall just north of that bridge. The damage was caused by a traffic accident. Crews will be re-striping areas of Interstate 430 southbound, between the Markham Street and Shackleford Road overpasses. During this process, traffic will occasionally be reduced to one southbound lane on Interstate 430. The work will occur Tuesday night, September 17th through Friday morning, September 20th between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

As a reminder, drivers will need to turn left on Hermitage Road to reach their destination. Left turns are no longer allowed from northbound Shackleford Road to Financial Centre Parkway. Crews will be painting and conducting minor repairs to the Highway 46 (Redfield Road) overpass. The work will require the closure of one southbound lane near the overpass in Redfield. The closures will be Monday, September 16th through Thursday, September 26th between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs. The closures will not occur on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.

Crews will reconstruct 8 miles of Interstate 40 from Forrest City, eastward. The work will require a lane closure for eastbound traffic beginning Sunday, September 15th at 8:00 p.m. This closure will be for the entire length of the 8 mile project.

On Monday morning, September 16th, all westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane as crews remove a barrier wall and complete crossover construction. Workers will also begin installing a precast concrete barrier wall on the centerline of the eastbound lanes. This work is expected to last one week. Current plans are to shift all traffic to one lane in each direction beginning Monday, September 23rd.

The work will be performed on the Highway 13 (North Bankhead Drive) overpass in Carlisle. It will require closing the westbound inside lane between mile markers 182 and 184. These closures will be Monday, September 16th and Tuesday, September 17th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The work will require the westbound outside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, September 16th through Thursday, September 19th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs. Crews are working beneath the bridge, but require equipment on the bridge deck. Right now, there is no estimate on when the work will be complete. AHTD will continue to provide updates on this bridge each Friday.

The work will require the westbound inside lane of Interstate 30 closed between 6th Street and Roosevelt Road in Little Rock. The closures will be Saturday, September 14th through Sunday, September 15th between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

Crews will be resurfacing 13 miles of Interstate 30 to improve friction. The work will extend from Prescott, east to Highway 53 (Exit 63). The work will require the alternating closure of one lane in both directions of travel.

The closures will begin Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 a.m. They will continue during the daylight hours until the project is complete later this month, weather permitting. The speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph in the work zone and traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be sawing existing pavement to tie in an entrance to the new AHTD Garland County Headquarters. The work will require closing the westbound lane about a mile west of Crystal Hill Road. The closure will be Thursday, September 12th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones, warning signs and flaggers.

Crews will be striping Interstate 430 southbound. The work will require closing a southbound lane within the Interstate 430/630 “Big Rock” interchange. The closure will be Thursday, September 12th and Friday, September 13th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

Workers will be hanging large beams. This will prevent access to the northeast loop ramp. The times will be Thursday, September 12th between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Monday, September 16th through Thursday, September 19th 24 hours a day, each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be making pavement repairs on Interstate 430. This will require northbound traffic to be reduced to one lane at Big Rock interchange. Also, drivers exiting Interstate 630 eastbound to Interstate 430 northbound will have a shortened yield area. The closure will be Monday night, September 9th through Tuesday morning, September 10th between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be striping the westbound pavement within the Big Rock interchange. This will require westbound traffic in the area to be reduced to one lane periodically. Also, the I-430 northbound to I-630 westbound (northeast) loop will be closed in 15 minute intervals.

Crews will be constructing a new northbound bridge over Clear Creek. The work will require traffic to shift to one lane in each direction, between Woodson Road and Hensley Road (mile marker 13). A concrete barrier wall will be installed to separate traffic on what’s normally just the southbound side. The traffic shift will begin Thursday afternoon, September 5th. The work on this bridge is expected to last four months.

Crews will be making pavement repairs on Interstate 430. This will require northbound traffic to be reduced to one lane. Also, drivers exiting Interstate 630 eastbound to Interstate 430 northbound will have a shortened yield area.

The closures will be Wednesday night, September 4th through Friday morning, September 6th between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The work will be performed on Interstate 40 at the Young Road Overpass, which is just east of Crystal Hill, at mile marker 149. It will require the westbound outside lane to be closed Wednesday, September 4th and Thursday, September 5th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be performing joint repairs in the southbound lanes of Interstate 430 within the confines of the interchange. The closures will be Tuesday night, September 3rd through Friday morning, September 6th between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be working on a traffic camera. The area affected will be the ramp that extends from Interstate 30 eastbound to Interstate 630 westbound. It will require closing the ramp’s inside lane on Friday, August 30th between 900 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be hanging equipment and painting the U.S. Highway 67 overpass. Work was scheduled to start Thursday, but was delayed.

The work will require the closure of one northbound lane on Highway 67, and possibly a southbound lane. It will also close one eastbound and one westbound lane on Race Street. Both closures will be Tuesday, September 3rd between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Work will resume Wednesday, September 4th between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting. The overnight work will continue for two weeks. During this period, only one eastbound and one westbound lane of Race Street will be closed.

AHTD continues to make major improvements to Arkansas’ interstates and highways. To aid in your holiday travel, we have been working hard to open as many travel lanes as possible. “The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department wants travelers to have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend. That’s why we always make an effort to limit work zones as much as possible during each holiday,” says AHTD Director Scott Bennett.

Still, with many ongoing improvements, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to an increased volume of traffic. Preparation is the key.

Work began today and will continue for about a month.

The closures will be Saturday night, August 24th through Sunday morning, August 25th between 11:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The work will be performed on Interstate 40 at the Young Road Overpass, which is just east of Crystal Hill, at mile marker 149. It will require the westbound inside and center lanes to be closed Sunday night, August 25th through Friday morning, August 30th between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Work on the westbound outside lane will follow at a later date.

The work will require the westbound outside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, August 26th through Thursday, August 29th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Crews hope to wrap up the work by Thursday. AHTD will provide an advisory Friday, August 30th, if the work is extended.

The work by Koss Construction Company will require all northbound vehicles to take Exit 51 at the Highway 157 (Sunny Dale Road) interchange. Drivers will then proceed east to Highway 367. Motorists will then be detoured north to Bald Knob where they can re-enter U.S. Highway 67. The detour will be Saturday, August 24th between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The closure will be Thursday, August 22nd between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones, flaggers, and warning signs.

Crews will be performing joint repairs in the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 430 within the confines of the interchange. The closures will be Monday, August 19th through Friday morning, August 23rd between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be hanging overhead sign structures. This will require the closure of the northbound I-430 outside lane between Shackleford Road (Exit 5) and Kanis Road. All northbound traffic will be placed in the inside lane as the work is being performed. This means only one lane will be available at this location.

The closure will be Saturday, August 17th through Sunday, August 18th between 11:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The work will be performed on Interstate 40 at the Young Road Overpass, which is just east of Crystal Hill, at mile marker 149. It will require the westbound inside lane to be closed Sunday night, August 18th through Friday morning, August 23rd between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Work on the westbound outside lane will follow at a later date.

House Bill 1750, sponsored by Representative Jonathan Barnett, was approved by Arkansas lawmakers and signed into law as Act 579 by Governor Mike Beebe during the 89th General Assembly. It requires drivers to move over not only for emergency vehicles, but vehicles owned by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department and its contractors. The law also includes utility vehicles, tow trucks, or authorized vehicles displaying, blue, red, amber, white, or green lights that are flashing, revolving or rotating.

Following a review of comments received as a result of a public meeting held August 9, 2012, to discuss the project, the Red Alternative (see enclosed map) has been identified as the alternative that best meets the purpose and need of the project. The Red route is the shortest in length, the least expensive to construct, and will relocate the fewest residents.

Crews will be removing brush from the right of way to improve sight distance. The work will require the eastbound outside lane of Highway 270 (Albert Pike Road) closed just east of Lake Hamilton. The closure will be Wednesday, August 14th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

Crews will be making concrete repairs and improving drainage on the southbound on ramp at Exit 34 in White Hall. The on ramp will remain open. However, the work will require the southbound outside lane of Interstate 530 to be closed at the Exit 34 overpass. This will allow drivers entering Interstate 530 to accelerate to adequate speed, after clearing the construction area.

The closure will begin Thursday, August 15th at 7:00 a.m., weather permitting. The work is expected to be complete before the Labor Day weekend. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The work will be performed on Interstate 40 at the Young Road Overpass, which is just east of the Crystal Hill overpass at mile marker 149.

It will require the westbound outside lane to be closed Wednesday, August 14th and Thursday, August 15th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The work will be performed on the Highway 13 (North Bankhead Drive) overpass in Carlisle. The work will require the eastbound inside lane to be closed between mile markers 180 and 183. The work will be performed on Interstate 30, just west of Highway 70. It will require the westbound outside lane to be closed between mile markers 108 and 110. The closures will be Monday, August 12th through Thursday, August 15th and Monday, August 19th through Tuesday, August 20th. The closures will only occur between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be hanging structural steel for the new Highway 149 overpass just east of Shell Lake. The entire project should be complete by the end of this year.

The work will require the temporary closure of eastbound traffic for up to 15 minute intervals. The closures will begin Tuesday night, August 13th and continue through Friday morning, August 16th. The closures will only occur between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The work will require the westbound outside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, August 12th through Thursday, August 15th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

If weather permits, eastbound traffic on Financial Centre Parkway and Interstate 630 will be shifted onto new pavement this weekend. This will allow crews to construct new columns for a future bridge over Shackleford Road.

It will also require the following traffic changes:

Beginning Saturday, August 10th at 6:00 a.m., drivers northbound on Shackleford Road will be restricted to one travel lane through the Financial Centre Parkway intersection and traffic will no longer be allowed to turn left and proceed west on Financial Centre Parkway. A detour will be provided on Hermitage Road.

Beginning Sunday, August 11th at 6:00 a.m., drivers eastbound on Financial Centre Parkway will no longer be allowed to turn left and proceed north on Shackleford Road. A detour will be provided on Hermitage Road.

This means the only left turn allowed at the intersection will be for drivers southbound on Shackleford Road wanting to turn left and proceed east on Interstate 630. These detours will be required until the construction of the Interstate 630/Financial Centre Parkway bridge over Shackleford Road is complete in 12 to 18 months.

Workers will be applying liquid asphalt and pea gravel on 5.5 miles of Highway 131 from Haynes, eastward. Crews will do the same work on 4.3 miles Highway 178, west of Aubrey. The work will be performed Thursday, August 8th through Monday, August 19th. It will only be performed Mondays through Thursdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Workers will install five steel beams for a new bridge. This will require occasional closures of all eastbound traffic at the Highway 89 overpass (mile marker 173) in Lonoke. The five closures will not last longer than 15 minutes, each. The occasional overnight closures will begin Tuesday, August 6th at 11:00 p.m. and continue until Wednesday, August 7th at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The bridge will be located over the Mulberry River near Turner Bend Campsite. The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 8th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Cass Job Corps Center (Gym). It is located at 21424 North Highway 23, in Cass. The public is invited to visit anytime during the scheduled hours to view displays, ask questions and offer comments.

The work will be performed on Interstate 40 at the Young Road Overpass, which is just east of the Crystal Hill overpass at mile marker 149. On March 7th, the overpass was hit by a tractor trailer causing extensive damage to the bridge, shoulder, and Interstate. The shoulder, along with the bridge and guard rails have been repaired. Work is now focusing on the travel lane. It will require the westbound outside lane to be closed Wednesday, August 7th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The work will require the westbound outside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, August 5th through Thursday, August 8th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Due to recent rains and equipment delays, work is expected to last another one or two weeks. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

The work will require the eastbound outside lane of Interstate 30 to be closed over the Ouachita River near Malvern. It will be closed Monday, August 5th and Tuesday, August 6th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Workers will be placing beams for a new bridge. This will require the closure of the southeast cloverleaf loop. Any drivers in the Financial Centre Parkway/Shackleford Road area wanting to go north on Interstate 430 will be detoured. Motorists will be directed south on Shackleford Road to Interstate 430 North. The detour will begin Saturday, August 3rd at 6:00 a.m. and continue until Monday, August 5th at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. The contractor may suspend work Saturday night; so the southeast loop may re-open. Work will resume early Sunday and the ramp will be closed until the work is complete late Sunday or early Monday.

The work will require the eastbound outside lane of Highway 100 (Maumelle Boulevard) to be closed from Arnold Palmer Drive to Crystal Hill Road. The closure will begin Wednesday, July 31st and will continue weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., weather permitting. The lane closures are expected to be necessary for approximately 4 months. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The detour will begin Saturday, August 3rd at 6:00 a.m. and continue until Monday, August 5th at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. The contractor may suspend work Saturday night; so the southeast loop may re-open. Work will resume early Sunday and the ramp will be closed until the work is complete late Sunday or early Monday.

Crews will be hanging structural steel for the new Highway 149 overpass just east of Shell Lake. The entire project should be complete by the end of this year. The work will require the temporary closure of westbound traffic for up to 15 minute intervals. The closures will begin Monday night and continue through Wednesday morning. The closures will be between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

The 8-mile section of highway between the Jefferson Interchange and the Pulaski County Line has been under construction since early 2012. Lane closures will be removed by the week of July 29th. Short-term lane closures will still be required from time to time while the contractor performs seeding and mulching, watering, pavement evaluations, final clean-up, and other miscellaneous items of work. All work is expected to be complete by Labor Day.

Crews will be working on the Martin Luther King Drive and Mound City Road overpasses. The work will require Interstate 40 eastbound and westbound traffic to be merged into one lane from just east of the Interstate 40/55 interchange (mile marker 180) to just east of Mound City Road (mile Marker 181).

The work will require the westbound inside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, July 29nd through Thursday, August 1st between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs. This work is expected to continue for the next 1 or 2 weeks except for Fridays and weekends. AHTD will provide lane closure advisories each Friday until the work is complete.

Crews will be patching bridge joints. It will require rolling lane closures on Interstate 530 from the north interchange to the south interchange. The work will be performed Monday, July 29th through Friday, August 2nd. It will require the alternating closure of one lane in northbound and southbound traffic. All the work will be performed between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The work will require the eastbound outside lane of Interstate 40 closed at the Highway 13 (North Bankhead Drive) overpass in Carlisle. That’s between mile markers 180 and 183. The closures will be Monday, July 29th and Tuesday, July 30th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be installing new signs and removing pavement markings. The work will require Interstate 40 eastbound traffic to be merged into one lane from just east of Highway 118 (mile marker 276) to just east of the Interstate 40/55 interchange (mile marker 278). The lane closure will be Tuesday, July 30th between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Crews will be removing old asphalt and replacing it to restore smoothness at the intersection of Highway 65 and 8 in Eudora. The lane closures will be Monday, July 29th through Friday, August 2nd between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using flaggers, cones and warning signs.

The work will require the eastbound and westbound outside lanes of Interstate 30 closed over the Ouachita River near Malvern. The eastbound outside lane will be closed Tuesday, July 30th and the westbound outside lane will be closed Wednesday July 31st. Both lane closures will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 30th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Bono Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall). It is located at 414 Highway 285 North & Burkett Flat Road, west of Greenbrier.

Crews will be patching bridge joints. The work will require rolling lane closures on Interstate 430 between the Interstate 430/30 interchange and just south of Colonel Glenn Road. A small portion of the southbound outside lane will be closed on Wednesday, July 24th, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The work will continue Thursday, July 25th. It will require the closure of the southbound and northbound inside lanes. All the work will be performed between 12:30 pm. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, individual ramps for traffic exiting to and entering from Highway 22 (Rogers Avenue), Grand Avenue, and Kelley Highway in the southbound direction of I-540 will be closed intermittently to allow for paving of the main lanes. The work will begin at the Kelley Highway ramps and progress south towards Highway 22 (Rogers Avenue). The ramps are expected to be closed for approximately one hour at a time as the paving equipment progresses through each ramp area. All ramps are expected to be re-opened to traffic by 6 a.m. each day.

This work is scheduled to continue through Wednesday, July 24.

Crews will be repairing bridge navigational lights on two bridges crossing Lake Hamilton. The repairs will require closing the southbound outside lane on Highway 7 (Central Avenue) and the westbound outside lane on Highway 70 (Airport Road).

Both repairs will be completed on Thursday, July 18th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Park Hill Baptist Church, in the Fellowship Hall. The church is located at 3333 Hollywood Road in Arkadelphia. Motorists on Interstate 40 will be minimally affected. Drivers will only be required to remain in the two inside lanes. Barrels will be used to separate traffic. The closure will be Tuesday, July 16th between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels, cones and warning signs.

The work will be performed on the Main Street overpass in Jacksonville. It will require the southbound inside lane of U.S. 67 to be closed Tuesday, July 16th through Thursday, July 18th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 18th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Magnolia Christian Center (Life Center). It is located on the Highway 79/82 bypass, located just west of Highway 371, northwest of Magnolia. Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 11, the Contractor will restrict Highway 71 to one lane in the northbound direction between Elmwood Cutoff and Howard Hill Road north of Greenwood. The nature of the work will require the lane closure to remain in place until work on the existing lanes is completed. The contractor intends to concentrate their forces on this portion of the work in an effort to minimize impacts to motorists. The lane closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 6 weeks.

Adjustment of the times of any announced lane closures may become necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Beginning at 12 a.m. (midnight) Wednesday, July 10, the ramps for traffic exiting to and entering from Grand Avenue in the southbound direction of I-540 will be closed. The ramps are expected to be re-opened to traffic by 3 a.m. The closure is necessary to allow for asphalt paving of the southbound I-540 lanes in this area.

The ramp closures will also be in place from Thursday, July 11 to Friday, July 19. Adjustment of times of the ramp closures may be required due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Extensive highway improvements are underway in the state. With those improvements come work zones. To aid in your holiday travel, AHTD has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible. In fact, a major work zone on Interstate 40 near Hazen is now substantially complete. All lanes of travel will be open between Little Rock and Memphis.

“We understand that travel is very important during the holidays. That’s why we are limiting work zones as much as possible,” says AHTD Director Scott Bennett.

Still, with many ongoing improvements, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to an increased volume of traffic. Preparation is the key, according Bennett.

The work will be performed on the eastbound outside lane of Highway 70 (Airport Road), from just east of Highway 192 (Marion Anderson Road) and west of Kaufman Road in Hot Springs. The location is just west of Lake Hamilton. The lane closure will be Wednesday, June 26th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The work will be performed on an Interstate 55 message board located at the 13 mile marker in Jericho. It will require the southbound inside lane to be closed Wednesday, June 26th between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The work will be performed on Interstate 30 at mile marker 108, west of the Point View Road overpass, which is just west of Highway 70. It will require the westbound outside lane to be closed Monday, June 24th between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will perform the installation over the southbound lane of Interstate 430, just south of Breckenridge Drive. This will require a double lane closure and occasionally 15 minute complete closures. Northbound traffic will not be affected. The closures will begin Saturday, June 22nd at 11:00 pm and conclude by Sunday, June 23rd at 9:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be repairing potholes that have formed in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 67, between the Main Street overpass and James Street. The work will require closing the northbound inside lane on Wednesday, June 19th and the northbound outside lane on Thursday, June 20th.

Both closures will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be performing the inspection on the Union Pacific Railroad overpass on Highway 67 in Donaldson. The work will require closing the northbound lane on Wednesday, June 19th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will perform minor repairs to the Fair Park Boulevard overpass. The work will require the eastbound outside lane of Interstate 630 to be closed between John Barrow Road and Fair Park Boulevard.

The closures will be Wednesday, June 19th and Thursday, June 20th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Workers are painting two bridges. This will prevent access to the northeast and southeast loop ramps. Drivers traveling northbound on Interstate 430 wishing to travel west on Financial Centre Parkway or Chenal Parkway will need to take the Shackleford Road Exit, which is Exit 5.

Traffic will be detoured using Highways 291 to 190 and Grand Avenue in Haskell. Motorists on the west side of the track will be detoured using Highway 67. The detour will begin at 3:00 a.m. June 12th and conclude by 7:00 a.m. the same day. Westbound traffic will be detoured at Exit 202 (Biscoe) and routed south on State Highway 33 and continue west on U.S. Highway 70. Motorists will be routed back onto I-40 at Hazen (Exit 193).

The work will be performed on the Interstate 440 overpass at Faulkner Lake Road in North Little Rock. The lane closure will affect the eastbound outside lane on Thursday, June 13th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Workers will be painting two bridges. This will prevent access to the northeast and southeast loop ramps. Drivers traveling northbound on Interstate 430 wishing to travel west on Financial Centre Parkway or Chenal Parkway will need to take the Shackleford Road Exit, which is Exit 5.

Any drivers in the Financial Centre Parkway/Shackleford Road area wanting to go north on Interstate 430 will be detoured. Motorists will be directed south on Shackleford Road to Interstate 430 North, using Exit 5. For more information, see the attached map of the detour area.

The detours will be Sunday night, June 9th through Friday morning June 14th between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Again, the detours will only occur overnight.

In addition, crews will be re-striping Interstate 630 between Shackleford Road and just east of the Interstate 430 overpass. The work will require two eastbound lanes to be closed Sunday, June 9th at 5:30 a.m. until Monday, June 10th at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. The restriping will result in a traffic shift to the north for eastbound traffic on I-630. The shift is expected to last through most of the summer and will include all 3 lanes.

Crews will perform minor repairs to the Fair Park Boulevard overpass. The work will require the westbound outside lane of Interstate 630 to be closed between Woodrow Street and Fair Park Boulevard.

The closure will be Monday, June 10th through Thursday, June 13th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The work will be performed on the St. Francis River Bridge on Highway 70, five miles east of Forrest City. The lane closure will be Monday, June 10th through Thursday, June 13th between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., weather permitting. Vehicles over 9 feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during that time.

The work will require the eastbound inside lane of Interstate 440 to be closed near mile marker 5, just before the Fourche Dam Pike Exit. The lane closure will be Tuesday, June 11th between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The work will require the westbound outside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. Shortly after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, a backhoe being transported on a trailer eastbound on Interstate 30 struck several of the beams causing enough damage to warrant an immediate closure of the overpass.

Traffic is not affected on Interstate 30 at this time. The Stanton Road overpass will remain closed for an unknown amount of time until crews can assess the damage and make repairs. The AHTD is working with the city of Little Rock to determine alternate routes for local commuters.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will provide an update as information becomes available.

Intense rains caused extensive flooding along the Fourche LaFave River and other tributaries in Scott County. The fast moving water washed out several sections of Highway 28 adjacent to bridges and other structures. For that reason, Highway 28 will be closed to traffic from Parks to the Yell County line.

AHTD crews began work today and will continue through the weekend to repair damage as soon as possible. It is estimated the road will be closed for a week. Due to limited state highways in this rural area, no formal detour will be signed.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will provide an update as information becomes available. It’s important to note that Highways 270 and 71 are now re-opened to traffic near “Y” City.

All westbound drivers on Interstate 630 wanting to go south on Interstate 430 will exit using the northwest cloverleaf loop. However, rather than entering I-430 south at that point, drivers will be detoured to the Shackleford/Hermitage Road intersection. Motorists will then be directed southbound on Shackleford Road to Interstate 430 South. For more information, see the attached map of the detour area.

The detour and lane closure will be necessary as crews paint steel girders above the affected travel lanes. The detour and lane closure will be Tuesday night, May 28th through Friday morning, May 31st. Weather permitting, all scheduled closures will be between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Crews will be filling potholes on Interstate 40 westbound between North Hills Boulevard and the I-40/30 Interchange. The work will require the westbound inside lane to be closed on Thursday, May 30th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be filling potholes on U.S. Highway 67 southbound between McCain Boulevard and Interstate 40. The work will require the southbound inside lane to be closed on Thursday, May 30th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Crews will be painting and removing construction materials on the Baptist Health Drive overpass. The work will require two of three lanes to be closed on I-630 eastbound and westbound. Occasionally, all three lanes will be closed. However, those closures will not last longer than 15 minutes.

The closures will be Tuesday night, May 28th through Friday morning, May 31st between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs.

Temporary changes to the traffic patterns are necessary to allow the raising of the bridge deck carrying Highway 64 eastbound traffic over I-540.

All traffic will be moved to the existing westbound lanes of Highway 64 in the area of I-540 to allow the bridge over I-540 in the eastbound direction to be raised. Eastbound traffic will be diverted to the westbound lanes using temporary median crossings. Eastbound and westbound traffic will be separated by a temporary concrete Barrier wall.

The on ramp for eastbound traffic on Highway 64 to I-540 northbound and the southbound off ramp from I-540 to eastbound Highway 64 will be closed to accommodate this work.

Traffic changes will begin after 7 p.m. on May 29 and work is expected to be completed and traffic patterns restored to the existing lanes and ramps within 48 hours.

Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes to reduce congestion in the work zone.

Beginning at 12 a.m. (midnight) Wednesday, May 29, the ramps for traffic exiting to and entering from Kelley Highway in the southbound direction of I-540 will be closed. The ramps are expected to be re-opened to traffic by 3 a.m. The closure is necessary to allow paving of the main lanes of I-540 in this area.

The ramp closures will be also be in place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 29 and 30, to allow for successive layers of asphalt paving in this area.

The work will require closing the westbound outside lane of Interstate 30, between mile markers 101 and 103, just east of Malvern.

The closure will be Thursday, May 30th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

The work will require traffic in the westbound lane of Highway 70 (East Grand Avenue) to shift to the shoulder. The bridge is located just east of the Martin Luther King Expressway.

The lane shift will be Wednesday, May 29th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

Beginning Wednesday, May 22, traffic on Grand Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction in the area of I-540 between the hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. with short-term lane closures of less than 30 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m. All traffic lanes will be open by 6 a.m. each day. The work requiring these lane restrictions is expected to be complete by Thursday, May 30.

Beginning Wednesday, May 22, traffic on Highway 22 (Rogers Avenue) will be restricted to one lane in each direction in the area of I-540 between the hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. with short-term lane closures of less than 30 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m. All traffic lanes will be open by 6 a.m. The work requiring these lane restrictions is expected to be complete by Thursday, May 23.

Adjustment of the times of the lane closure may be required due to weather or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to consider

However, the Hazel Street off ramp will have traffic barrels and signs clearly marking the correct path for motorists. The Hazel Street off ramp provides access to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

The closure will begin Wednesday, May 22nd and continue for 2 to 3 weeks, weather permitting. It will last 24 hours each day. Once the outside southbound lane is complete, work will switch to the inside southbound lane. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route during rush hours.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

Crews will make pavement repairs and resurface the lanes and shoulders of Highway 270. The work will begin at the intersection of Highway 270 and Interstate 530 in White Hall. It will progress west to near Sandy Acres Drive.

The alternating lane closures will be Tuesday, May 21st through Monday, June 3 between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled by warning signs and flaggers. Drivers should expect short delays and consider an alternate route.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

On Monday, the city of Hot Springs will replace a transformer at Fordyce Bathhouse located at 369 Central Avenue. The work will require closing the northbound lanes of Central Avenue from just north of Reserve Street to just north of Fordyce Bathhouse.

The closure will be Monday night, May 20th between 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled by warning signs and flaggers.

State Senator Bobby Pierce of Sheridan asked the AHTD to review this area after hearing concerns from residents in the area. “Drivers were worried about how slick the highway would become after heavy rains and the Highway Department is responding to those concerns,” says Pierce.

Monday, AHTD crews used a milling procedure to increase friction on the roadway surface. The area was about 4 miles north of Sheridan from just north of Circle Court Road to just north of Robertson Road. That’s the equivalent of about one mile. AHTD will continue to monitor the area during heavy rainfall to ensure the highway meets or exceeds safety standards. As a reminder, motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

Administrative offices will open for business at the new location on Friday, May 17.

The phone number for the administrative offices is changing to 479-484-5306. This number may be used to contact the District Engineer, District Construction Engineer, District Maintenance Engineer, and the District Permit Officer.

The administrative offices are relocating to the District Headquarters Complex located at Chaffee Crossing. The Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority deeded approximately 40 acres to the Arkansas State Highway Commission in 2002 for the Complex. In addition to the administrative offices, the complex includes a Resident Engineer Office, District Materials Lab, Area Maintenance Headquarters, facilities for several district maintenance and bridge inspection crews, and the office of the Arkansas Highway Police District 3 Commander.

Work to construct the Complex began in fall 2007 and included site work and fencing by Department forces and three contracts to complete the facilities. The total cost for the Headquarters Complex is approximately $13.5 million.

The administrative offices are relocating from facilities at 4019 Towson Avenue in Fort Smith. That location has served as the Headquarters since 1959. District 4 includes Crawford, Franklin, Logan, Polk, Scott, Sebastian, and Washington Counties.

On Tuesday, April 30th, a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new location of (Highway 549) (Texarkana Loop), from Arkansas Boulevard to Highway 71 north of Texarkana.

It was hoped that Highway 549 would open to traffic last week. However, poor weather conditions contributed to a delay. Work is now being completed and the highway will open to traffic during the day on Wednesday.

This project is part of the future of the Interstate 49 corridor which will link the Gulf of Mexico with Canada through western Arkansas.

Crews will be leveling the driving surface on Highway 167 about 4 miles north of Sheridan. This will require the northbound and southbound outside lanes to be closed. The northbound and southbound inside lanes will remain open. The area affected will be from just north of Circle Court Road to just north of Robertson Road.

The lane closures will be Monday, May 13th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

The bridge is located over Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Parkway Drive, north of Interstate 40. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Amboy United Methodist Church, in Tisdale Hall. The church is located at 311 East Military Drive in North Little Rock.

Crews will be sweeping and repairing the roadway surface along Highway 67 in Jacksonville. The work will be performed between the Redmond Road overpass and the LRAFB exit.

The northbound inside lane will be closed Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th. The southbound inside lane will be closed Thursday, May 16th. All closures will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

The work will require the westbound outside lane of Cantrell Road to be closed on the railroad bridge (Lincoln Viaduct) located just west of Dillard’s corporate headquarters in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, May 13th through Thursday, May 16th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and warning signs.

The inspection will require an alternating lane closure in the eastbound and westbound lanes this Sunday, May 12th. A lane closure will be in effect between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.

“The trails program, which is a very competitive program, is directed toward developing and maintaining trails for recreational purposes throughout the State,” said Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) Director Scott Bennett.

“We received 45 non-motorized applications requesting more than $3 million. Thirty projects were selected to receive approximately $1.5 million in available funding.”

The AHTD will work with the successful applicants to develop their projects and see them through to completion.

Beginning Friday, May 10, traffic will be restricted on Highway 162 in the area of I-540 between the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic will be restricted to movement in one direction at a time and will be closed for up to 30 minutes at a time by flaggers stationed in advance of the work area. All traffic lanes will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work is expected to be complete by 6 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

The restrictions are necessary to allow removal of the deck from the bridge that normally carries I-540 traffic over Highway 162.

Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes to reduce congestion in the work zone.

In November, 2012, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a contract, in the amount of $78.8 million, to Kiewit Infrastructure South Company of Fort Worth, Texas. Work on the project is expected to be complete in mid-2014.

 Motorists are urged to use care and think ahead when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should Obey the Posted Speed Limits and Other Regulatory Signing; Maintain a Steady Speed; Leave Room Between Vehicles; Be Aware of Road Conditions; and Anticipate the Need to Stop or Reduce Speed Substantially.

Highway 549 was scheduled to open to traffic next week. However, due to recent rainy conditions, the contractor has been unable to complete all the work as scheduled. AHTD officials hope to have Highway 549 open the week of May 13th. We will provide additional information when an exact date has been set.

This project is part of the future of the Interstate 49 corridor which will link the Gulf of Mexico with Canada through western Arkansas.

Motorists wanting to access Interstate 630 will turn left after exiting, cross the Shackleford Road overpass and enter Interstate 430 northbound to access Interstate 630. The work on the median wall will require portions of the westbound inside lane of the Martin Luther King Expressway to be closed. The work will progress from east to west along the expressway. Maintenance to the eastbound inside lane will begin Thursday, May 16th and continue through the end of the month. Work will progress from west to east along the expressway and will only be performed between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting.

Crews will be doing routine maintenance including general cleaning, weed eating, and drain clearing along the median wall. This work can’t be accomplished under normal traffic conditions due to the lack of space between traffic lanes and the median wall. Traffic will be controlled using warning signs and cones/barrels.

Arkansas moved up 13 spots in the survey, the 2nd largest jump in the entire country. Arkansas is now number 37 among the 50 states. Just last year, Arkansas was at the bottom of the list.

“The bicycling culture in Arkansas has grown more popular in recent years and we are responding,” says Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department Director Scott Bennett. “The results serve as an affirmation that our statewide efforts are making a real difference in The Natural State.”

Arkansas’ latest ranking was based on a number of key indicators, including infrastructure and funding that provide bicycle facilities; education and programs that promote cycling; and passage and enforcement of bicycle-friendly laws that make it safe and comfortable for people of all ages to ride a bike.

“Arkansas has made great strides toward becoming a more bicycle friendly state, and we need to continue to build on this momentum. Although our resources are extremely limited, we hope the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department can continue to play a role in this progress toward providing a convenient and safe infrastructure for bicyclists in Arkansas," says Bennett.

In coordination with the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, the next step is to update the State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan to develop a blueprint for how state agencies, local governments and other organizations can work to improve the environment for both cyclists and pedestrians.

A large portion of existing Highway 245 will be re-designated as State Highway 549. Highway 549 will go from Doddridge to Texarkana where it will maintain a path along existing Highway 245 to Arkansas Boulevard. From there, Highway 549 will continue northeast on a new location and cross Interstate 30. It will then turn back to the west to intersect with existing Highway 71 just north of Texarkana.

The exit changes shown on the attached map will go into effect when Highway 549 is opened within a month. An additional media release will be sent when the opening date is scheduled.

This project is part of the future Interstate 49 corridor which help link the Gulf of Mexico with Canada through western Arkansas.

The project will require the eastbound lanes to be closed Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Westbound lanes will be closed Thursday night. All closures will be for short intervals not to exceed 10 minutes.

The testing will require a rolling lane closure in one of the two westbound lanes of the frontage road on Monday, April 15th. The lane closure will be located between Mabelvale Pike and Vimy Ridge Road. The lane closure will be in effect between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., weather permitting. One lane will remain open, traffic delays will be minimal.

The work will require all westbound traffic to be diverted to Highway 70 at exit 202 in Biscoe. Traffic will be routed back on Interstate 40 at mile marker 193 in Hazen. The detour will be Tuesday, April 9th from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.

On March 25th, inspectors discovered damage during a routine examination of the bridge. As a safety precaution, eastbound traffic was diverted away from the damaged area until the bridge was safe for traffic. Now that repairs are complete, the bridge must undergo a final inspection.

The Interstate 40 White River Bridge is inspected every 12 months. It’s estimated that 30,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily, 58 percent of which are tractor-trailers. The bridge was constructed in 1968 and is 2,701 feet in length. It is scheduled to be replaced in 2015.

April is recognized around the country as a time for Work Zone Safety Awareness. Construction recently began in Fort Smith on the $78.8 million I-540 rehabilitation project and will continue for another year, and everyone needs to do their part to make this construction project a safe route to travel.

 The work is expected to last about two months. Crews will alternate closing the inside and outside lanes between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. each night. This will allow one lane to be open at all times.

This project is part of the 2011 Interstate Rehabilitation Program that will improve 455 miles of Arkansas’ Interstates in the coming years.

The work will require the westbound inside lane of Interstate 30 to be closed between mile markers 139 and 142. That’s located from just south of the I-30/I-630 interchange in Little Rock to just south of the I-30/I-40 interchange in North Little Rock. The closures will be Tuesday, April 9th through Wednesday, April 10th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

Arch Street) to be closed on the Union Pacific Railroad bridge located between Interstate 30 and Roosevelt Road near Interstate Park in Little Rock. The closures will be Monday, April 8th through Tuesday, April 9th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using flaggers and warning signs.

The traffic pattern change will allow the Contractor to replace the existing bridge over Highway 22, rubblize the existing concrete driving surface, and place a new asphalt driving surface on the existing southbound lanes. This stage will take approximately four months to complete. Completion of the project is expected in mid-2014.

The motorists are reminded that the traffic on the main lanes of I-540 should not stop to allow ramp traffic to enter the interstate. Motorists on the main lanes should maintain a steady speed and leave room between their vehicle and others and motorists on the ramps should evaluate the traffic on the main lanes and enter when there is space between main lane traffic to safely do so.

Motorists are reminded that the speed limit in the work zone is reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour, for the safety of the construction workers and the motorists. Increased traffic enforcement is scheduled in this work area and, under Arkansas law, fines are doubled for violations in the work zone.

Motorists are urged to use care and think ahead when traveling through the work zone. They should remember to Obey the Posted Speed Limits and Other Regulatory Signing; to Maintain a Steady Speed; to Leave Room between them and other vehicles; to Be Aware of Road Conditions in front of them; and to Anticipate the Need to Stop or Reduce Speed Substantially. Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes to reduce congestion in the work zone.

In November, 2012, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a contract, in the amount of $78.8 million, to Kiewit Infrastructure South Company of Fort Worth, Texas. The project includes re-construction of nine bridge structures, replacement of the driving surfaces of two bridge structures carrying traffic on the main lanes of I-540, and raising of bridges carrying Highway 64 traffic over I-540. The existing concrete pavement is being rubblized, to create a drainage layer, and overlaid with asphalt pavement.

Motorists on the main lanes should maintain a steady speed and leave room between their vehicle and others and motorists on the ramps should evaluate the traffic on the main lanes and enter when there is space between main lane traffic to safely do so.

Motorists are reminded that the speed limit in the work zone is reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour, for the safety of the construction workers and the motorists. Increased traffic enforcement is scheduled in this work area and, under Arkansas law, fines are doubled for violations in the work zone.

Motorists are urged to use care and think ahead when traveling through the work zone. They should remember to Obey the Posted Speed Limits and Other Regulatory Signing; to Maintain a Steady Speed; to Leave Room between them and other vehicles; to Be Aware of Road Conditions in front of them; and to Anticipate the Need to Stop or Reduce Speed Substantially. Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes to reduce congestion in the work zone.

In November, 2012, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a contract, in the amount of $78.8 million, to Kiewit Infrastructure South Company of Fort Worth, Texas. The project includes re-construction of nine bridge structures, replacement of the driving surfaces of two bridge structures carrying traffic on the main lanes of I-540, and raising of bridges carrying Highway 64 traffic over I-540. The existing concrete pavement is being rubblized, to create a drainage layer, and overlaid with asphalt pavement.

Inspectors discovered damage during a routine examination of the bridge on Monday, March 25th. As a safety precaution, all eastbound traffic was detoured. Crews worked around the clock to re-establish traffic flow while repairs are being made.

The Interstate 40 White River Bridge is inspected every 12 months. It’s estimated that 30,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily, 58 percent of which are tractor-trailers. The bridge was constructed in 1968 and is 2,701 feet in length. It is scheduled to be replaced in 2015.

This area of Interstate 40 continues to undergo major construction. It’s scheduled to be complete in July. On Friday, March 29, beginning at 8:00 p. m. southbound traffic will be diverted to the existing northbound lanes of I-540 from north of Highway 22 to south of the Cliff Drive overpass. Northbound and southbound traffic will be separated by a temporary concrete barrier wall. Temporary ramps will allow access to the Highway 22 interchange.

The traffic pattern change will allow the Contractor to replace the existing bridge over Highway 22, rubblize the existing concrete driving surface, and place a new asphalt driving surface on the existing southbound lanes.

This stage will take approximately four months to complete. Completion of the project is expected in mid-2014.

The work will require the westbound outside lane and eastbound outside lane of Financial Centre Parkway to be closed Monday, March 25th through Friday, March 29th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers traveling west on Financial Centre Parkway may encounter delays.

The purpose is to improve drainage along Financial Centre Parkway and near the intersection of Shackleford Road during heavy rain events.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

The work will require the southbound outside lane of Interstate 430 to be closed between the Markham Street overpass and the Hermitage Road entrance ramp. The closure will be Tuesday, March 26th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. In the event of poor weather conditions, the project will be postponed until Wednesday, March 27th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The purpose is to construct a permanent barrier wall to improve traffic flow for motorists entering or exiting I-430 at Shackleford Road.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

The work will require the eastbound outside lane of Interstate 40 to be closed between mile markers 163 and 165, west of Lonoke. The closures will be Monday, March 25th through Tuesday, March 26st, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

The project will also require the westbound inside lane of Interstate 40 to be closed between mile markers 163 and 167, west of Lonoke. The closures will be Wednesday, March 27th through Thursday, March 28th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
