Tombstone checkin' in with you. Today I'm going to give you a little preview of my pick of the week. Toy Story 3 beat out every other form of media. Imagine that!

Toy Story 3 starts off with a fantastic scene where Woody, Jessie, and Buzz fight the evil minions of Dr. Porkchop. Reminiscent of Toy Story 2's opening sequence where Buzz battles Emperor Zurg, the movie begins in true Toy Story fashion.

However, after the opening sequence the story slows down a tad with the laughs. When Andy is forced to choose between the attic and donation for his toys, Andy picks the attic. Unfortunately, Andy's mom mistakes his bag of toys as toys to be donated and Woody and the gang are transplanted to Sunnyside Day Care center.

At the center the gang is held captive by Lotso (voiced by Ned Beatty), a character that is just a little bit too much like Stinky Pete from Toy Story 2. Lotso uses Ken as a pawn to keep the gang captive, while Woody, who had escaped from Sunnyside, rescues his pals.

Although the movie is a little slow after the opening sequence, the movie has its share of laughs. I found the scene where Ken (voiced by Michael Keaton) models clothes for Barbie particularly hilarious. Buzz's Spanish dancing culminates a hilarious sub-story in which he is converted to Spanish speaking mode.

Since Toy Story, Woody and the gang have pondered what would happen when they were no longer Andy's toys. The climax to Toy Story 3 only partially deals with this major question. The climax is touching, but leaves the answer to this question up to the viewer.

Overall I felt that Toy Story 3 was a fun film with a touching ending. However, I do feel like the gang at Pixar rehashed Toy Story 2 instead of reinventing themselves. Pixar has always been known for reinventing themselves, and I certainly hope they do that with their future projects. Their new visions for the future have been the catalyst for their success. Toy Story 3 leaves the franchise open for possible movies in the future, but let's hope they leave this franchise where it stands. Let the world remember the Toy Story franchise as being one of the greatest franchises in animated history.

Now for one last segment. I want some audience participation here. I think I am going to get our fans involved a little more so...tell me who you like better...Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt? Leave your answer in the comment section.

Common Courtesy

Hey kiddies, Tombstone checking in with you. Today I am going to talk about a pet peeve of mine. Movie theater courtesy. Honestly, it's not that hard, yet sometimes I think movie goers are becoming more and more rude. (It could be a figment of my imagination, but a little refresher course on common courtesy can go a long way for everyone...myself included.)

So...Let's start with some basics. When the trailers or movie starts, please zip your lips. This should be an easy one. I'm assuming you paid your 6-10 buck ticket price in the attempt to pay attention to the movie and not those around you. However, there are those who seem to think it's okay to talk to their friends and family at regular talking voices throughout the motion picture. Remember that the other people in the theater didn't pay to listen to your friendly banter. They paid to listen to the film. Also, now is a good time to remind people that unlike watching a movie at home, the movie goer has no way to rewind the film and listen to what he or she missed because others are talking. While the movies are meant to be fun, please remember there are other people at the theaters besides you and yours.

Let's move on to the next basic. Texting during the film. What many people who text during a film don't realize is that the person sitting next to them can't see...literally. I've had people sitting next to me text during a film. I didn't see one bit while they texted. The light from their phones shone so bright into my eyes, I was blinded. Needless to say I asked the gentleman sitting next to me to not text. Of course, I tried to be as polite and tactful as possible. He doesn't need me ruining his evening for the 6-10 buck ticket charge as well. The unfortunate thing about texting is is that it bothers most of the audience, not just the people sitting next to the texters.

Phones--As so many of the pre-movie advertisements state...please turn them off. This is just a good rule of thumb while visiting the theater. Hearing the custom ringtones of others isn't worth the ticket price. Nevermind the conversation of that guy who actually answers the phone. "What? I can't hear you--I'm at the theater. What was that? Oh! Wait, I'll call you back later."

Babies. Please try not to bring your baby to the 7, 8, 9, or 10 pm showing of an adult film. If you can't find or afford a sitter, and you do bring your babies, please take them outside if they begin to scream. You aren't paying me, or the other audience members, or the theater to babysit your kid.

Now, am I saying that you should be silent at all times throughout the film? No, it's okay to make a comment to your friend, date, or spouse. Just remember to be mindful of the others who are attending as well. Does this mean don't text during the trailer to tell someone where you are sitting? Absolutely not...just try and be courteous.

I think today's world can be volatile at times. The economy at the moment isn't the greatest, and people are having some hard times. Movies are often a good source of relaxation for many. However, I think that a little bit of common courtesy will go a long ways in our lives and the lives of others. Say "please," "thank-you," and "your welcome" to others at the concessions or anywhere else you might be. Hold a door open for someone you don't know. Be cool to others at the movie theater and everywhere else you go and the world will change for the better. I promise. You can quote Tombie on that.

In the meantime rush out and see the latest movie at your local theater. For me this means Get Him to the Greek sometime this weekend. And til I see you again...God Bless you and yours.

Something For The Moms & Something For The Kids

I understand when people tell me that Sex and the City looks super lame and pretentious. I understand this because I was one of those people not too long ago. I would catch a couple minutes of reruns on TBS and think, "Is this the most anti-feminine show in human existence?" However, it sucked me in as TV shows tend to do. And I'm so glad that Sex and the City did just that for me.

How did it suck me in? The drive in out door movie. It was the second feature of the night. My husband and I thought, 'Why not?'. And after I saw the FASHION, the fabulousness, the wonderful shots of New York City and the clever quips and lines of all the ladies, who BTW each represent something within each of us women, I was forever hooked.

Since that time I've watched many, if not all the episodes of SATC. Miranda is most feminist and harsh, yet strong. She stands up for people in need. Charlotte is the sweet one, the domestic one and represents the woman's need to be a wife and mother. Carrie respresents girls that just want to have fun and dress up, kiss boys and go dancing. Samantha, well she represents the sexual side of womanhood, a little too well I'm afraid.

Where SATC 1 focused on Carrie and Big's marriage and relationship, as well as the relationships of the rest of the girls, numero 2 was all fun and laid back enjoyment. The first movie was kind of depressing, overly sexual and even though it was fashionable, it was hard to deal with at times. This new movie is happy, positive and talks about being grateful for the situations that we have and that we are in. I loved it.

The fashion in Abu Dhabi was amazing and Aiden make his handsome appearance, which is absolutely wonderful. I recommend this to all the ladies out there. Even the men will enjoy it it they stay open minded. My husband secretly loves these movies I think, at least I think ;) And did I mention the AMAZING FASHION? (If you are fashion curious, feel free to visit my other blog HERE.)

Shrek the 4th, was another apprehensive movie for me. I'm not into the slightly adult humor they introduce to kids in the Shrek series, but this movie was all innocence. I loved it! In my opinion, it was the best of the series and really had a great message, almost akin to Its a Wonderful Life and George Bailey. Give it a shot! It was hilarious and joyful, the kids will stay innocent and you'll stay laughing!

Until next time movie goers! Don't forget to download our podcasts on itunes!
Last night was the epic series finale of the quirky, crazy, confusing show that is LOST. For those of you that started the series and had to quit along the way, don't worry we understand. Seasons 2 and 3 were especially hard to get through. And we are okay with being the butt of your jokes, the weirdos, the forever LOSTies with none productive lives. For those of you that stuck with it, watching six seasons and what amounts to countless hours of LOST tv, we here at Webertainment Weekly commend and congratulate you. In my opinion, it was worth the struggle and the many confusing questions, even those that remain unanswered.

Let me give you a small recap of each season in a nutshell so we can get up to speed. If you aren't caught up, you may not want to read this. In fact, if you are caught up, ignore this. SPOILERS.

Season 1: Our survivors crash, try to figure out how to get off the island, worry about a smoke monster chopping down trees and how to tap into a french distress signal to call for help. Others try to capture Claire because she is pregnant and eventually steal Walt. Our survivors try to leave the island via raft, Gin learns English and well Danielle Rousseau is a crazy b-otch. We end here with Locke & Jack blowing the lid off a hatch into the ground.

Season 2: We find out that Desmond has been living in the hatch pushing a button and Locke continues pushing it. Ben Linus shows up. We learn more about the Others and the Dharma Initiative. We find out about the tail end of the plane and its survivors. We also learn that because Des didn't push the button once, it caused the Oceanic 815 crash. Des lets the hatch implode by turning the magical key. Michael flees the island with his son and coordinates given to him by Linus in exchange for killing Ana Lucia and Libby and freeing Linus.

Season 3: The others capture Sawyer, Kate and Jack. Juliet is introduced. Jack fixes Ben Linus' back. Desmond sees the future and tries to prevent Charlie from dying various deaths. Jack is heart broken when he sees Kate and Sawyer sleep together in a gorilla cage. A boat claims to be Penny's give them all a hope for rescue. However, Charlie dies telling Desmond that its not Penny's boat after all.

Season 4: Crazy scientists arrive claiming to help rescue the survivors. Sun is prego and Juliet confirms its Jin's kid. Desmond starts traveling through time. The freighter peeps turn out to be super evil, especially Keamy who kills Ben's daughter Alex. The freighter blows up before the survivors can reach it, supposedly killing Jin. Sawyer jumps out of the helicopter to prevent the deaths of others. Locke spins a donkey wheel and moves the island, which completely disappears. The remaining survivors are convinced by Jack that they must lie about their friends on the island and go back to normal lives in the real world.

Season 5: The survivors hate their new lives back in reality. Kate is a mother to Aaron. Sun has her baby and aligns her powers with Widmore in order to find the island. Jack is a drug addict with a bad beard trying to convince everyone to go back to the island. Locke ends up in the middle of no where after spinning the wheel. The shift in the island sends it spinning through time. It eventually lands in 1977. Sawyer and Juliet hook up and fall in love for four years until the other survivors who made it off the island come back in the Airjira plane sent through a special time space continuum. We find out that Locke died and they need his body to return. Daniel Faraday talks Quantum Physics and jibber jabber. Miles' Dad is Chang, that creepy dude from the Dharma films. Fake Locke gets Ben to kill Jacob. Jack thinks that detonating a hydrogen bomb will solve all their problems. It explodes and the season ends.

Season 6: We find out that the bomb created an alternate reality called Flash Sideways. Juliet lives even after detonating the bomb, but dies in Sawyer's arms. Sawyers hates Jack for being an idiot. The bomb flung them back to 2004. Rose and Bernard are living the peaceful life with Vincent. There is a creepy temple with a Japanese dude. Claire is the new Rousseau thinking a dingo ate her baby ;). Sun is still looking for Jin who was stuck in the 70's. We find out some insane stuff about Jacob and guy liner himself, Richard Alpert. We feel bad for the creepy Man in Black when we learn his history. Hurley can see dead people. Jack is the new Jacob. Blah blah blah

Okay, I think that preeeeetty much brings us up to speed. What we learned is that the island is a special place that holds the good light of mankind as well as the evil. Its a cork in a wine bottle. If the cork lets loose the evil, bad news kids. So Jacob protects the cork light thingy. MIB is his brother and didn't want to be smokey. He wants off the island.

Jacob's time is up and Jack takes over. Desmond is the key to uncorking the island because he can resist electromagnetic energy due to his hatch implosion experience. He uncorks and the island goes nuts. The lack of cork allows both 'Jack'ob and Smokey to be killed now whereas before they were immortal. Smokey and Jack have an epic ultimate punch moment and then Kate actually does something worthwhile and kills off Smokey. Jack sacrifices himself to cork back the island and save his friends who fly away in the Airjira plane.

In the alternate reality Desmond wakes everyone who is ready up from some sort of individual self created limbo and has them go to their special meeting place. Essentially Jack finds out that the island was the most important time in his life and so all of those people who helped him become better had to meet up before they could, 'pass on' to the other side. Before that they were fooling themselves in a happy limbo middle land, where they could have some of their desires come true. Faraday was a musician rather than a physicist. Charlie's band was successful and he had loads of herion. Desmond was Charles Widmore's favorite guy. Jack kicks ass as a surgeon. Blah blah blah.

They all had to be woken up from this limbo land, where they variously landed and came to when they died. Which time is neither here nor there. And then they all hug and move into the light. Christian Shephard explains this all to his son, both tearful, happy and embracing, ready to move on. These were the best lines in the series in my opinion. "You needed them and they needed you."

The significance is that they are in a Unitarian type church where all religions are important and none are important. Essentially, the island attracted to itself all people who needed something resolved in life. The island was the learning place.

Was it cheesy? Yes. But was it inspiring and cool? Yes. LOST taught us that science and faith can coexist and that we have much to learn from both areas. It had time travel, quantum physics, explosions, hot bodies and a metaphysical spiritual feel good ending. What LOST tried to tell us, in a very confusing and round about way, is that everyone we meet in our life we are connected to and they play a role in our life to teach us, either good or bad. LOST told us our lives are important and have meaning, purpose and direction.

We never got the complete answers to everything, like why Richard Alpert loves eyeliner so much. Yet LOST was a con we were willing to buy into because it just felt too good. :0)
This the newest movie from (Sir) Ridley Scott. Now I have nothing against him as a director as far as visuals, but I think that he messed up on this movie.

As I have spoken (i.e. slightly ranted) about on the show, I first have a problem with the tag line of the film, "The untold story of how the Man became the Legend." I have a problem with something that is a legend/fiction and try to pass it off as history. (I'm looking at you King Arthur...) The legend came to be hundreds of years after the man actually would have lived.

My main problem is that they use the title of "Robin Hood" as an excuse to make crap up and do whatever they heck they want. Don't go to this movie thinking that you will get a retelling of the usual story that you hear. This movie has almost nothing to do with it, and though some say think of it as a prequel, I find it hard to believe with some of the things that they did put in the movie.

For those of you who didn't know, this movie stars Russell Crowe as Robin Longstride who is fighting in the Crusades with King Richard and they are on their way back and fighting in France. The king is suddenly killed, and Robin and his friends (one from just a few minutes previous.) escape the battle and decide to return to England. The king's crown is being delivered and the delivery men get ambushed and killed. Robin Longstride meets Robin of Locksley as he is dying, promises to return his sword to his father, and the crown to the country. Robin accepts and goes on his way.

Well along the way, he meets Maid Marian, and details, details. I will make this more about the flaws I thought that the movie has. First is these orphan children that serve absolutely no purpose in the movie, not to mention that it took a while to figure out who they actually were. They served no purpose until the end and even that was questionable.

This movie made it so that France was trying to attack England and doing it by causing political unrest, which never happened. They made it sound like the Robin's dad created the Magna Carta, and made it free for all men and did it at this point in history, which again didn't happen.

Eventually the differing sides meet up together at the "White Horse" which is made in the wrong century (and nearly 600 years later, I might add). Then they make a magical journey to the white cliffs of Dover, which is quite far away but they make the journey in only minutes. Not only that but the people that they left behind near Sherwood, have been able to sneak up and be able to join the fight and in full armor to boot! Thank you Cate Blanchett for your random appearance as well the the king of france (who only appears twice.)

In the end the movie was too long (could have been half the length) and the story seemed pieced together. However, I will say that the cinematography is great, as well the acting, and costume and set design. This really does look like it is in medieval times. The music is good as well. The movie is quite watchable though long. I would agree with most critics in a 2 or 2 1/2 stars. The movie is fine but I feel like it should not belong in the second week of the summer movie season. My advice is to go see Iron Man 2 again, or save your money for later this summer. Until next time, this is Zach signing out!

Iron Man 2 is awesome, and what you never thought you would hear about Wal-Mart.

Well it's about time I actually posted another blog so at long last here it is.

First, is a shock even to me. Wal-Mart actually did something good albiet with the help of Proctor & Gamble. A few weeks ago, NBC finally aired "Secrets of the Mountain" in mid April as we talked about on the show.

To make a long story short, Wal-Mart and Proctor & Gamble haven't liked what has been on the air both in content of programs and commercials. So as a grand experiment, they partnered and bought a chunk of time on NBC (which is the cheapest broadcast network at this point). What happened could very likely be the future of television.

The movie itself was decently interesting, reminding me of some of the early Hallmark movies. But what it was the commercials that I thought was the most interesting.

What Wal-Mart and P&G did is devise a way to keep viewers interested on the commercials. The companies sponsored the program as was the custom when television first started. But whenever they went to a commercial, Wal-Mart would have a Trivial Pursuit question and the answer would be given coming back from the commercial. In between would be a mixture of commercials from P&G and Wal-Mart. But the most interesting commercials were ones that were produced by both companies together. They were a series of a family and their adventures usually surrounding their trips to Wal-Mart and they happened to buy P&G products. Then once it was done it would give us a preview of the next mini episode.

I thought that all of these strategies were great and may be able to combat DVR tendencies. They created interest in the stories or trivias. The ads were less pressured and they allowed for the products to be shown in everyday situations. And by having the stories of the family within a set amount of time. The audience was able to keep it's attention on the commercials by having the stories and the set time. It made interest in the commercials supercede the urge to change the channel. In the end, that helped "Secrets of the Mountain" win the night in ratings and blew the competion out of the water. So far the experiment from the two companies seems to have been a success as a second movie made by the two companies is already in the works and is set to air in June.

Second, is my review of Iron Man 2. I am going to try to keep this as spoiler free as possible. I thought that the movie was awesome but still had a few flaws. First off I would say that the movie was not quite as the first one but for a sequel the level was extemely high.

The movie is great for a middle movie either to be succeeded by the Avengers or Iron Man 3. Definitely better then the second movie of the pirates movie and the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

This movie has a great mix of humor, action and even in jokes for the fan boys. The story itself is reminicent of the first movie but with more storylines. However all the stories come together in the end and let the story end beautifully.

There are several different in jokes from the usual Stan Lee cameo (which I enjoy discovering how they are going to hide it) to references to Captain America and Thor.

As a last bit of advice. Please stay after the credits! There is something important to see! It does deal with the next Marvel movie.

In summary, this is a great kick off to the summer movie season and a great addition to the new generation of comic book movies! Iron Man 2 is pure fun and a great way to forget your troubles for 2 hours.

We will see you soon on the next episode of Webertainment Weekly! Same bat time, same bat channel.

Repo Men proves sci fi future films are either awesome or crap & nothing in between.

Upon seeing the trailer for the new Jude Law film, Repo Men, I have to admit I was pretty psyched. A guy in the near distant future, working as a repo man to rip out people's organs when they haven't made the payments? Fodder for controversy in light of Health Care Reform lately right? Wrong. While the film did lightly touch on this issue, it was nowhere near the theme of the movie at all. It got me thinking mid movie about how we are already dealing with this is some ways. People left to die with pre-existing conditions because they cannot pay or people going bankrupt with medical debt were things that came to mind.

But I never had time to process that because the movie moved onto different things, unorganized things. Jude Law is in an accident, they give him a fake heart to live, he is upset and now he is mentally unstable. He can no longer perform the repo duties he once did and therefore cannot afford the payments on his new heart. The hunter is now being hunted and by his best friend Forest Whitaker. Although Jude Law has a wife and son, I didn't feel like he cared for them at all. I thought he would protect them at some point later on in the film when the Repo Men came for his own heart. Nope. The fact that he nearly died doesn't faze his wife at all when she kicks him and his metal heart out on the curb, refusing to let him see his son.

And when I thought the movie was going to go into super kick butt action mode, it slowed down completely. About an hour's worth of unnecessary footage with this random chick they introduced mid film and at complete random. If this stupid new girlfriend wasn't annoying enough, her entire character was inconsistent and disorganized. Although she was lower class, super poor and her first kidney transplants were past due, she somehow managed to be approved for eight other transplants. Some of the organs the screenwriters tried to write off by saying they were black market or different crappy brands of fake organs, but still? Who wanted to invest in an already bankrupt person? Not only that, she had bad kidneys which is believable, but she was maybe age thirty tops. And somehow she had bad eyes, ears, knees and a laundry list of other bum organs. How does a young person's body fall apart? They never explained this AT ALL.

Because she is a singer, I thought for sure her only original organ intact and real would be her vocal cords, but nope, those were fake as well and from the very beginning. So that sultry voice Jude Law fell in love with at the bar was a lie. Later on, when Jude Law busted into corporate headquarters and had the boss under lock down, I thought for sure he was going to put a fake heart in the guy and make him totally screwed. This way the boss would understand the plight and clear Jude's account. Nope. I thought maybe Jude would break into the supply closet, take a different heart and have some witch doctor in the ghetto switch them out so he would be free and clear. Nope.

None of the things I wanted to happen or thought might happen or would be really cool to happen EVER actually happened. None. Nil. Zip. Zilch. Nada. To close out this miserable mess of jumbled crap, the ending brought a very indulgent surgery scene in which Jude and stupid girlfriend are writhing around bleeding on a table ripping each others organs out. Classic. Thanks a bunch movie guys, you turned a possibly awesome movie, with a decent cast into pure crap. It was the redhead step child of Minority Report, A.I. and Vanilla Sky. They got me again, mugged at the cinema by the execs themselves.

This post was created by Chelsi and approved by Zach. Polanski plead guilty to raping a 13 year old girl and then fled the United States in the same year.

In his blog "The Big Picture," featured in the L.A. Times, Patrick Goldstein wrote this; "I think Polanski has already paid a horrible, soul-wrenching price for the infamy surrounding his actions." You can find the full article here.

Mr. Goldstein, will you please answer me this question; What horrible price of infamy has Mr. Polanski paid? Correct me if I am wrong, but Polanski fled the U.S. in 1978 when the event happened and has lived in freedom since. Polanski has also been nominated for Academy Awards and recieved Academy Awards. Polanski has made millions of dollars from the movies he has made. Mr. Goldstein, correct me if I'm wrong, but fleeing before you are sentenced makes you look worse than you already did.

Mr. Goldstein, will you please answer another question? You stated that California shouldn't prosecute an old man because the case is old, and that California has other problems. Won't it look even worse for California if they drop the case now? Citizens are tired of celebrities in sports, t.v., movies, and other areas of life getting off easy because they are celebrities. Wouldn't dropping this case continue to invite public outrage of specialized treatment for the wealthy and celebrities? Your argument states that California should protect the poor and unemployed, and yet you want to release this man. Releasing this man wouldn't protect the poor and umemployed because the prosecutors would only be left with the poor and uneployed to prosecute. Never mind the fact that it isn't the prosecutors' fault that California is having poverty and unemployment issues.

Samantha Geimer, the victim, says that she has forgiven Mr. Polanski. I am glad that she did this. Does her forgiveness constitute the fact that the state should forgive this man because he plead guilty and then ran away? Does her forgiveness guarantee that he has reformed? The fact of the matter is that this man was a bad guest in our nation, and has still benefitted from our capitalist system. Although Samantha Geimer is an exceptional human being for forgiving Mr. Polanski, her forgiveness doesn't equate to the responsibility the State of California has to protect its citizens.

I personally don't want a witch hunt. I just think that a lot of the press on this issue looks bad. Many articles talk about documentaries made about Mr. Polanski's life that side with his release. This seems like more propaganda to help celebrities get off easy.

Growing up my mom always quoted the bible to me. "Abstain from all appearance of evil." Some things just look bad and when things look bad, they usually are.

I don't know if Mr. Polanski has changed or not, but I must say in this case that this whole scenario looks bad.

If you would like to know more about Mr Polanski's life and arrest you can read these AP and Reuters releases here and here.

Captain America Grows Mouse Ears to Replace His Wings!

Hello Kiddies,

Tombie here. Blogging about a business deal isn't the norm here at Webertainment Weekly. We are used to ranting about whether or not we liked a new film, or bashing Lindsay Lohan's latest exploits. As a collective, Zach, Chelsi, and I don't sit around and discuss the money spending of billion dollar corporations. Today is a little different.

Disney is going to buy Marvel. You may or may not know this already. Hopefully you do. Today I am going to free associate. Hopefully some of my thoughts will make sense. If you want to know some of the business details of the aquisition, you can find them here

Disney tells you about it here

Once upon a time, Marvel had a rough time and declared bankruptcy. They returned as the powerhouse of comic book companies. Movies of our favorite characters were only speculated about before the bankruptcy. Today they are a dream come true, even if we don't always enjoy them.

Once upon a time, Marvel's best talent walked out of the company and started Image comics, because Marvel wouldn't give creator's any royalty rights to their characters. Disney cares more about the licensing of their characters than any other corporation I can think of. Will new and upcoming talent want to work for the new Marvel?

Will Marvel be given the same freedom to create their projects that Pixar is given? If so, then this potentially could be a good deal.

No offense, but I don't want to see a costumed Wolverine running around at Disneyland. Nor do I want a roller coaster called the "Spider-Man." It's perfectly ok for Six Flags to use the DC Comic/Warner Bros gang.

A collaboration between Pixar and the Marvel characters could be very cool. The recent line of animated Marvel movies have been some of the hidden treasures of the last couple of years.

Paramount will continue to distribute the Avengers line of movies. Marvel studios has pretty much owned the ability to make the films. Every comic book fan is worried about Disney pictures getting involved too much in the production process. Although "Race to Witch Mountain" is a pretty cool film, it is still a kids film. I mention this one because we don't know when and where Disney will interfere with Marvel studios, and if they will try and make a kids movie, or a real film. No one knows if Disney can stay true to the Marvel history.

No one knows if this new family will get along. I can guarantee though that fans of Marvel feel like they just got a gaggle of unwanted step-brothers and sisters. Hopefully, we can beat up on them for awhile before we decide if we like them or not.

Hopefully my thoughts raised some questions to look out for. The world of comics as we know it is going to change, and again Marvel will be at the forefront of the pack. Who knows if it will be good or bad.

Hopefully I have given people some things to think of, even though I didn't mention the comic side too much. Comics are still my secret passion, and I am hoping that $4 billion dollars doesn't impact my life too much.

We are back & with new stuff!

Hey guys, we are back from our week vacation! I enjoyed the cruise and Tombstone was out somewhere. We are back and we have some news! We have made Chelsei an official co-host! Below is another blog from her. But be sure to download the podcast, comment on our blog and give a review for our podcast on iTunes. You the listeners can talk to us and help us out! With out further delay, Chelsei's post!

Before I went to see the new Quentin Tarantino edition Inglorious Basterds I had to mentally prepare myself. Having seen many films by this well known director, I wanted to make sure that I was ready for the task that lay ahead of me. I did this by looking past the iconography so commonly associated with Tarantino and focused on the very unique aspects of this particular film. In short, I went into this movie pretending that I had never viewed Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs or Kill Bill v. 1 & 2. With that kind of mindset I really was able to look past the idiosyncrasies or predictability that I’ve come to expect from this director and I came out absolutely loving the film.

The scene is World War II in Nazi occupied France. Brad Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine, a hillbilly from the back hills of Tennessee who seems to view the killing of Nazi’s as revenge for their crimes as an art. His character brought humor to the film when it was needed and the director used this comedic timing wisely. Aldo’s tribe of followers, a special unit working for the C.I.A. are the most intimidating and astounding force to shake Hitler’s confidence since the beginning of the war. This film shows a scared Hitler grasping at his power with desperation which element is especially amusing.

One particular actor which has done mostly German films but made a huge impact on the general premise and feeling of this story was that of Christoph Waltz who played Col. Hans Landa. His way of weaving evil and likeability was stunning as well as haunting and may be responsible for the shaping of the films entire plot and I daresay success.

Diane Krugar was gorgeous in this film and her performance was equally enjoyable. Newcomer Melanie Laurent, a French actress who played Shosanna, was astounding in character and my personal favorite. BJ Novak from the Office, as well as Mike Myers and others make short appearances in the film. The only draw back was the graphic nature of the fight scenes, some of them too in your face at times. This is to be expected of war films. Samual L Jackson did some small narration and Harvey Kietel had a couple of lines which reminded me that I was watching a Tarantino film after all, but I was able to look past that quite easily.

Tarantino does not offer his audience a reason for the misspelled title or an apology for the completely inaccurate ending to the film. He offers his viewership a way to feel justice for the atrocities of the Third Reich and their actions during the 1940’s. Although it is all fictional, as a viewer you may find yourself cheering the whole way through and even feel a sense of relief at the end, despite its far fetched nature. If you saw Tom Cruise’s Valkarie and were as unsatisfied as I was, this is a film that definitely makes up for that sense of longing.

The soundtrack was superb as per usual and the defining moment for me was the use of the David Bowie song "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)"at the crux of the movie. If I had never seen Pulp Fiction I’d say this was the best use of Quentin Tarantino’s mind yet.

Until next time!

Whoops! and much more!

Everyone, I am back from my River Trip. And I have to admit, that I goofed and I won't be gone until next week, so that means there is another show!!!! This Week!!!
...But then next week, there is no show. So you get one more show before you get a break from us. And as a special treat, Chelsi has written another blog post! Read, comment, and enjoy. Til Next time,

Zach Jenkins

Hey Webertainment Weekly Fans,

This is guest host Chelsi again. I'm here to let you know about a film that was previously a limited release film but has now become wide release. 500 Days of Summer, is more of the independent film genre starring Zooey Deschanel (Almost Famous, Failure to Launch and Yes Man) as Summer and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun, 10 Things I Hate About You) as Tom. Summer grew up jaded after her parents divorce and does not believe in true love. She lets Tom know from the beginning that she won't be getting serious. But Tom is a timeless romantic, constantly listening to The Smiths and never losing hope in finding 'the one'.

They meet as coworkers at a greeting card company, the film centering around the good and bad times of a relationship. It shows the adorable firsts when Tom is incandescently in love as well as the confusion of defining a relationship. While Summer seems nonchalant and easy going, Tom is evaluating every word and event of the relationship. The film lets you know from the beginning that this is not a love story. And although I was slightly saddened by the fact, as a viewer I was able to focus on the journey of their relationship, the awkward and funny times, rather than the ultimate outcome.

I think guys and girls will love this film because it is easy to relate to on several levels. First loves found and lost, relationship definition and overcoming hardships are a few of the interesting and blithe aspects of this film. Definitely one of the best love story films of the summer.

Another film I'm greatly looking forward to is Paper Heart, starring Michael Cera. It will also be limited release on August 14th at the Salt Lake Broadway Theater. Also, this week's installment of the free Twilight Concert Series held at Gallivan Square is a reggae band called Toots and Maytals with opener N.A.S.A. It should be a really chill time. Hope to see you there!

Until next time, Happy Movie going!
Chelsi

Finally a new Blog post!

We haven't forgotten our lovely little blog, (Even though we haven't had a post in a month... Sorry)

This week we have a special blog post by one of our guest hosts, Chelsi. Let us know what you think of her post and we might include some more.

I will have a post up soon about some other stuff going on, as well as my experience in Adventures in Voice Acting.

Also one last thing, we will not be having the show next week, the second week in August, as both Tombstone and I will be out of town. Enjoy the post and our past shows to tide you over. Also listen to our friends at the Big Bald Broadcast at the thebigbaldbroadcast.com and listen to our promo on their episode 115!

Your intrepid host,

Zach Jenkins
(And now a word from Chelsei)

Hey all you Webertainment Weekly fans! This is Chelsi, a big fan and frequent guest host on the show. I'm here to let you in on some of the fun concerts and films I've seen in the past few days.

Last week I actually had quite an awkward experience involving the movie The Ugly Truth, starring Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy and Gerard Butler from 300. My Mother invited my husband and I to go see this movie with my two aunts and my uncle, all whom are in their 50's. I was not expecting the movie to be as grown up and adult as it was. The Ugly Truth is rated R and although it was a very funny movie which I thoroughly enjoyed, I couldn't quite get past the awkwardness of sharing those funny moments with my older family members.

Gerard Butler plays Mike, a guy who gives other men advice about women on a cable show. Katherine plays Abby, a successful producer of a local news network. Their stories collide when Mike is hired to work on Abby's network and they don't get along. He has a foul mouth and she can't believe his lack of manners. Things get tricky when she tries to impress her hot neighbor next door and is forced to enlist Mike's help. With his knowledge about what men are truly attracted to as well as his successful boosts to her confidence, she is able to get the man of her dreams. The only problem is that it turns out to be someone she least expected.

This movie is fun and warm hearted. It plays on the differences between men and women. I truly enjoyed it. I just suggest going with an open mind for language and no older parents or relatives ;)

The other movie I was able to see was Funny People, starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan. Adam Sandler plays George Simmons, a retired comedian who finds out that he is very ill and on the verge of death. He decides to revive a stand up comedy tour and hires Seth Rogan, who plays Ira Wright, as his assistant. At first Ira is thrilled, but after a few days of dealing with a sick person he sees the harsh truth of who his idol comedian really is. This movie is about life and the hard times we all seem to go through. It shows us that there are lessons in everything, from being a person dying to being a caretaker.

I thought this was the best performance I've seen from Seth Rogan yet. He was funny as usual, but was able to play a very serious role, making it both believable and easy to relate to. Other actors who really added to the comedic timing were Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill of Superbad fame. Newcomer Aubrey Plaza who plays love interest Daisy was also someone I was impressed with and am looking forward to seeing in future films.

The writer/director Judd Apatow, who has written, directed and produced everything from Talladega Nights to the 40 Year Old Virgin really put a lot of his own life and story into this film and it really paid off. Leslie Mann is his real life wife of 12 years and plays Sandler's love interest. Apatow even used his two daughters in the film who are very adorable and hilarious. All in all I felt the film was worth seeing and was very well put together.

The last thing I wanted to mention is something I've been really psyched about, The Twilight Concert Series in Gallivan Plaza. These concerts are free and so far have been beyond stellar. Granted, it gets very crowded and if you decide to go you should be forewarned that early arrival is the only way to get a seat on the lawn or in the plaza. The sound is amazing at all points however. Some of my favorites this summer have been Bon Iver and Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley fame as well as M. Ward who is in a band with actress Zooey Deschanel called She and Him. Seriously amazing shows. Last week Sonic Youth visited and it was fantastic.

Some upcoming bands are Iron and Wine with Okkervil River, two of my favorite bands. They will be here August 20th. You won't be sorry. Its totally free and there is food, fun, and amazing tunes.

Thanks again for listening to the show!
Chelsi

And now for my next act....

In the biggest news of the day, Both Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett both passed away. Finally....

Hey Boys and Girls!

Just thought I would let you stop by and let you know about some news.

First off, we finally had the digital switch for broadcast television! So if you can't watch tv anymore, you need to get a converter box (which you can get a coupon for from the government) or you need to get cable or sat. Or unplug everything and just use the internet. (Which now a days is absolutely an option)

Now for the big news. We finally have a new podcast host! It's http://webertainmentweekly.podbean.com/feed/

I am still trying to work out the kinks so there might be some problems. If there are, let me know. We should have the Itunes links fixed very soon as well. I am starting with the old episodes, and then adding the new ones.

Hope you enjoy it! Have fun and see you on Tuesday!

New Post because we need new content for this month!

Yep, that about sums the subject for this post from your intrepid host......

Actually, I thought that I should quickly review two other major movies that have come out for your movie going enjoyment.

First is Disney/Pixar's Up! This was a great movie with great storytelling. Without giving too much away, it focuses on a older gentleman who has lived a happy yet ordinary life. Him and his wife had always planned on living different adventures, especially to a set of falls in Venezuela that they had had seen in a news reel when they were little. However, circumstances always prevented them from going. Once his wife passes away, he become a retired grumpy old man, who after a particular incident decides to make his entire house move with a whole bunch of helium filled balloons. But along for the ride (by accident) is an 8-year-old who is as close to being a cub/boy scout without infringing on copyrights.

Don't worry, all I have given away happens in about the first 5 minutes.

This movie definitely deserves 4 stars. Pixar continues to put storyline first but at the same time makes a beautiful movie. This is a movie that is for all ages (though I will admit it made me tear up a bit.) Though, my only feeling is that this isn't quite as funny as some previous movies, so extremely younger kids may lose interest. (Basically if they liked Wall-e, they would like this movie). I do have to say one of the best old people fights is in the movie. Also the score is great and conducted by Michael Giacchino, who did the music for "The Incredibles" as well as the other summer blockbuster "Star Trek." Definitely a must see. You can see it in 3-D or in regular screens.

Alright, now on to this weeks premiere of "Land of the Lost." This movie is based off the old television series and stars Will Ferrell. This movie wasn't quite as funny as I thought it would be. I would probably give it 2.5 stars. But that is typical for a Will Ferrell movie, so that should tell you something. However, this movie does have it's moments, even finding a way to work the original theme song into the show. (as well "A Chorus Line." Don't ask.) This movie is PG-13 for a reason, but pulls out some decent laughs, especially if you are trying to identify all the things that have traveled through time, etc.

The different bits with Matt Lauer are great. I have to admit that I didn't watch much of the original show, so some of the different tributes may be lost on me, but I don't think it was too necessary to at least enjoy the movie.

WORD TO THE WISE!!! You need to stay at least half way through the credits! Most people missed out on another scene because they had already left. Everyone may want to join in on my policy and just watch the rest of the credits all the time. There are too many things that are missed by people because they just jet. People you can wait for a couple more minutes.

Alright, with that now said, I believe that we have finished our search for a podcast host (unless anyone has any suggestions) so we should have that all back up and running.

Until Tuesday,

Zach

Angels & Demons, Terminator: Salvation, and Night at the Museum 2!

Alright everyone this is your host Zach Jenkins giving you a really long blog post about a few movie reviews of recent movies that have come out.

First is "Angels & Demons" with Tom Hanks.

Now I have to start off by saying that I really haven't watched much of the first movie "The Di Vinci Code" before watching this movie, but I have read the book so I kind of had a clue what was going on.

Angels & Demons itself is a bit weird as a movie because the movie is a sequel that it is based off a book that is a prequel. Still with me? Not that it matters too much. It is really not necessary for this film to understand as if you have at least a vague knowledge of the Di Vinci Code and what it is about (which at this point would probably be fairly hard to not to) then you know what you need to know.

The story follows Robert Langdon, a symbologist, as he is called in by the Vatican to find the "Illuminati", who have caused some major trouble for them (not going to give too many spoilers). Robert has to find clues to track down the Illunimati before the entire Vatican is destroyed in one way or another.

I would give this movie a solid 3 out of 4. As we have said on the show, Ron Howard doesn't make bad films. It is a beautiful looking movie which great care to try to keep it looking true to the real place. I personally have been to the Vatican and it was hard to tell that this movie was done with out the help of the Vatican itself. I also enjoyed the exterior shots that were done to places that I have actually visited that they included in the mystery. The movie does keep you guessing on what is REALLY going on and if things will be resolved in time. Even at the last minute you are not sure if things are going to be resolved in the way you hope. Definitely keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Now I realize that some people have issues with the series stance on faith. First of all, I am not catholic myself but I do know some of the religion, and I liked the inside look on how the religion works. The movie shows things that you would rarely see, but it treats them in a good light. Also this movie has a much more positive relationship with religion than the first movie (though I think people are blowing the issue out of porportion.) Angels & Demons gives just a hint of more religion, while at the same time taking a look at what religious fanaticism can cause.

It's a definite must see.

Alright, now on to Terminator: Salvation. This has the crazy distinction of being both a prequel and a sequel at the same time. Another confession is that I have not seen either T3 or the television series. Amazingly Fox decided to cancel the television series right before the movie came out. I think that was a huge mistake. I believe that interest in the show will peak when people see the movie. I know that has certainly be the case with myself.

Now this movie is quite a bit different then the previous Terminator movies, in that it is actually after Skynet has taken over things and trying to wipe out all human. Terminators are loose and out to get EVERYONE. Christain Bale plays John Connor who is part of the main force of the resistance. But there is a different part to the story as it tends to center on Sam Worthington, who plays Marcus Wright, who wakes to the post apocalypatic world and tries his best ot survive, while finding out the truth of what is going on and about himself as well.

This was a good movie, and I give it a 2.5 out of 4. This rating takes into account that I don't tend to like post-apocalypatic movies much, especially ones that don't give too much hope. This movie keeped me entertained and also paid homage to the previous Terminator movies. The special effects in this movie were awesome. Some of the scenes, I was amazed on how lifelike some special effects were. I also liked seeing more about how the Terminators were made and how Skynet thought.

However, this movie does not resolve much. I still really don't understand on how Skynet suddenly became self aware or how it evolved (it might be in T3....) but it kind of glossed over that. Not only that, but after 4 movies and a television series, we still don't know if the humans ultimately win or lose. I definitely want some answers on that one. This one is set in the future and we still don't know.

Ulitimately, we have Night at the Museum - Battle of the Smithsonian.
Larry Daily is back, but he has kind of lost his way in the world again. He had gone one to bigger and better things, but had lost the spark that he had gained from working at the museum the first time. Through some crazy circumstances the tablet of Akmunrah (sorry if I spelled that wrong) has ended up at the Smithsonian along with other characters of the first movie in cold storage.

I admit that I really enjoyed this movie. I would probably give it a 2.75? It was a really fun movie, which has most of the original cast in some form along with new characters to keep things interesting. There are new villians which also make the show very fun.

I used to live in Washington D.C. so I know the different museums like the back of my hand. They were very true to the layout and most content of the musuems which made it much more fun and believeable. The worst parts were some exhibits (especially art) was moved to make it more exciting. I would definitely recommend it for a fun family movie, or just an easy comedy. I think this movie was actually quite a bit funnier with then the first movie, though it was a lot more busy.

There were some plot holes that I believe should have been filled or addressed. It appears the effects of the tablet only work if you go in the actual building, even though technically all the buildings are connected. Also they had some problems with flight and especially time. But this is me being really nitpicky and really doesn't have much to do with the show.

My only other issue, is just a personal preference thing. They didn't go to all the museums (even though some characters were from other musuems....) The movie didn't involve the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, or another fun one, the Museum of American History.

But all in all, a definitely fun movie and a definite must see espeically if you enjoyed the first one. Also if you to see the director, look for a cameo of him chasing for a glow in the dark flashlight (don't ask).

In other news, we are changing our podcast host, so there may be some technical issues associated with that for the next couple days. If you have any suggestions on where we should host, feel free to comment or e-mail us at Webertainmentweekly@gmail.com

Until our next show, your host,

Zach Jenkins

All the President's Men

Tombie checking in for all of our Webertainment fans!

It has been a week or so since I posted something on here, so I felt that I would stop by and say a few words. First off, summer movies are off to a great start, and for the most part, I have been entertained. On Tuesday's show we are hoping to have a guest with us...a friend of ours. Zach and I are considering adding a third member to our righteous gang and this would be an audition of sorts. If you think our new friend (her name is Chelsi) does a good job...you can give us a thumbs up on the comment section to this post and we will take you vote into consideration.

In the meantime, I think it will be cool to revisit an old skool film. All the President's Men starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman. The film is the story of the two reporters for the Washington Post that broke the Watergate burglary story that ended with the resignation of American President Richard Nixon.

The film is very interesting and moves just like a newspaper story. This means that the story ends abruptly, with almost no climax and resolution, just like you would find in a newspaper article. The movie also lacks certain elements of writing that newspaper elements lack. For instance, there is a lack of character development-it's just the facts...and that is how this film presents the story. Also the film is practically devoid of techniques that provide an emotionaly attachment to it. One example would be the score and music. There is practically none. In fact, I think that the music only plays when there aren't any characters speaking. Music would give us an emotional attachment to the movie, and the movie wants us to feel what it is like to be part of the newspaper industry, therefore, we don't get the filmmaking techniques that would help us become emotionally involved.

Although the movie moves like a newspaper article it is highly interesting. It captures the journalism industry with a realism that is almost scary.

I don't comment much on the state of our nation, but I will say this. I think that journalism needs to revisit films like this. Journalism is pretty much dead in our nation, and I think watching this film might help to resurrect the industry. It should be obvious to everyone that the stories are out there...but bias, the internet and other forms of media are killing the industry.

Whether or not you agree with my rant about journalism being dead, the film is a great one and well worth watching...especially with the all-star cast...

Enjoy the show tonight kiddies...I'll be back later!

Star Trek

Review: Star Trek

It's Tombie again folks, with your review of the new Star Trek film. Let's jump right into the review. The movie is beautiful to watch. The special effects are beautiful and all of the visuals enhance the story. The story is based around a group of time traveling Romulans who are seeking revenge on Spock. Without spoiling too much, I will say that the end result is mishap with the space time continuum.

If you are a non Star Trek fan, you will absolutely love this film. It has a great story, and blends comedy, action and drama into a fun film. There is just about every kind of action scene you would want in a film. There are aliens and monsters, there are space battles, there are hand to hand combat (including swords) and there are gun battles (phasers), essentially there is something for everyone.

If you are a fanboy or girl and can't handle any changes, however slight, you will not enjoy this film. The changes from the original lore work well with the storyline of the film, but also allow for modifications to the Star Trek canon as future films will progress. Being a fanboy, I will say this, J. J. Abrams took a big risk with this film, but overall I think he hit a homerun. The film has it's flaws, but they were so small that I didn't care. For fans of the original show there are a few things that were weird to watch, but I don't want to give anything away here...a hint would be to keep Spock and Uhura in mind. I also had a hard time thinking of Scotty without any hair ( I love you Simon Pegg and you were wonderful, but it is weird to see an almost bald Scotty). Anton Yelchin's accent for Checkov was pretty pitiful, but humorous at the same time.

One of my biggest complaints was the score. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't epic enough, and wasn't memorable enough. It didn't necessarily scream Star Trek to me. Many people don't realize how important music is to a film, but if I mention the original Star Trek, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman, or Rocky we all know what their scores sound like. It did disract from the film a bit.

As a fanboy, I loved (again I won't mention specifics, cause I don't want to spoil anything too much) the line that was stolen from Star Trek II. It was well placed and brought the Kirk-Spock relationship full circle from the orginal series and movies to the new film. I also enjoyed that much of the movie is centered on Spock's conflict between logic and emotion. It was also nice to see a young Kirk who is confident, but not yet THE Captain Kirk. I think this aspect of his character leaves much for the film franchise to develop in the future films. It will be nice to see how Captain Kirk becomes the Kirk of Legend...and I enjoyed Bruce Greenwood's portrayal of Captain Chistopher Pike. He was the man of the show, and is definitely the Pike that Fanboys can be proud of. Fans of the original show will love how Bruce Greenwood's portrayal will align with original lore- He was Kirk's mentor.

In the end, go watch the movie. I agree with the advertisements for the movie-This isn't your father's Star Trek. It will, however, appeal to everyone. I am flirting with a 3 and a half or 4 star rating. If I absolutely love it after my second time...then it is definitely a 4...and you know I am going to see it again...

T-Minus...

Ok....all you Trekkers out there...Zach and I are about to hit up the new Star Trek movie in a few Minutes...We Will have a review up for you in the next day or so. I always wished there was more stuff, like they have in LA, to get me out and in the" in" to know what was going on with the film industry in Utah. I hated feeling stuck like there was nothing I could do to get my business going, this is our business so lets treat it like one...That is why we do this to keep us all connected, to make a stronger state to film in, so we are ready for projects and out meeting others in film in our state...so here it is Utah, let's get going and keep it rocking here!"

It's $2 bucks to get in, Dress to impress (NOT formal gown or anything (at least not yet...) just look your best!) appetizers, music, etc...

We will be there, and we hope to see you there as well! It's the polite thing to do)

If you have any questions, feel free to comment us here or e-mail us at webertainmentweekly@gmail.com

Reviews: X-Men Origins and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

On Friday two movies came out; X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Being the avid movie goer that I am, I viewed both films. Lets start with talking about Wolverine...

If you are into gratuitous action flicks, this movie is for you. It has everything an action fan would want-gratuitous explosions, big guns, superhuman powers, sword play, and a cute chick. The movie moves fast, and you never wonder when the action might show up. You will walk away from this movie feeling joyous that you spent ten bucks on the murder, mayhem, and treachery that is so prevalent in this film.

If you are a fanboy (or girl) of comics...this film will let you down in a few ways...ALERT there are some almost spoilers in this next section. Fanboys actually want something of Wolverine's Origins. I am sorry, but spending two minutes showing Wolvie as a prepubescent doesn't cut it...in fact, if you are only going to show two minutes of that footage, you might as well have not shown it at all. The movie focuses more on events that lead to Logan getting his adamantium claws then anything else...unfortunately...(if we use only movie lore) we already know how he got his adamantium claws...we just didn't know why he decided to do it. Basically the first half of the movie depicts how Wolverine comes to his decision to become adamantium laced.
O.K. the reason why is important...but along the way we have a few mishaps. First, we learn that Wolvies real name is actually James. Unfortunately, the film never discusses or tells us why people call him Logan. Somewhere in the middle of the film they are calling him Logan, but no one knows why. It can be rather mysterious to the unenlightened.
Second...As a fanboy I have accepted that movie makers will stray from original comic book lore. I understand this and accept it. However, they kind of twisted some of the Wolverine lore to suit the purposes of the movie. I am ok with that, but along the way, they happened to not only twist the lore of Logan's origins, but that of Scott Summers, as well as that of a few more of our favorite mutants.
Third and most importantly, from a storytelling point of view, the movie lacks character development. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the reason that this movie was made is so that we could develop Wolvie's character (which is harder to do in a movie about a whole team of people)? The movie never gives us an opportunity to care for Kayla Silverfox, and because of that fact the audience doesn't care about Logan. At the beginning we are never introduced to Wolverine's parents in a way that helps us to feel a connection to the star of the show. Other than Kayla and Commander Striker, the film contains many Marvel characters whose only purpose in the film is to allow the gratuitous action to happen. In the end we are left with a surface story that is fun in a shoot em' up kind of way, but lacks any true depth.
Therefore, if I was to use the 4 star rating for this film, I give this movie 2 and a half stars. Anyone that really knows me understands that I was hoping for this film to be a home-run, but unfortunately it's not.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past:
Yes, fans of Mr. Matthew...he once again manages to take his shirt off in a film.

I enjoyed this film. Everyone knows that many of the greatest stories ever weren't original ideas when they were born. Therefore, having a story that is blatantly based off of A Christmas Carol works very well.
The story develops Matthew McConaughey's character of Connor Mead from the first moment. He is a cad. He is the epitome of sleaze, and if anyone questions that some of these women wouldn't ever fall for a boy as bad as he is, they are sorely mistaken. Women do everyday...I have seen it.
Laced with clever lines, we watch how Connor is transformed by the visitation of three spirits on the eve of his brother's wedding. How the ghosts interact with Connor is an original concept, if you think about how many real relationships Connor actually has had. They aren't actually his girlfriends, because Connor is a player.
Unlike the movies depicting Dickens original story, Connor Mead actually interacts with the bridal party in between the appearances of the apparitions. This allows the audience to see how Connor has changed after each visitation.
A couple of the highlights include Emma Stone's portrayal of Allison the Ghost of Girlfriends Past, Michael Douglas as sleazy Uncle Wayne, and the scene where Connor saves his brother Paul's wedding. Emma Stone was delightful and comedic, and stole some of the spotlight from Mr. McConaughey.
As a romance I enjoyed this movie because Connor's true redemption comes from saving his brother's wedding...not getting the girl. (I won't tell you if he gets the girl or not.) For fear of spoiling too much, I will leave it at that. The redemption scene allows this movie to slightly move past your typical romantic comedy. Not much further past, but a little bit.
I give this movie 3 stars. (Sometimes I rate like a true critic, other times I don't).
The added depth of character development takes this movie a half star beyond Wolverine for the weekend...

In all my life, not I, nor anyone who knows me, would ever believe that I would choose a chick flick over a comic book movie. This week it happened. My world is crumbling. Someone save me.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

It's about 15 minutes till the Witching Hour, and fans are gathering to view the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine flick. Frankie was one of the first lindy-hoppers, and is credited with performing the first aerial. Frankie's biography Frankie Manning: Ambassador of Lindy Hop was released in 2007.
Frankie was a featured dancer in Whitey's lindy hoppers, and played a role as one of their chief choreographers. One of the most well known swing dance clips ever is found in the movie Hellzapoppin. This is a must see clip for anyone who plans on attending any swing dance more than one time...hell it is a must see clip for everyone. Frankie also had the priviledge of performing with many of the jazz greats, including Duke Ellington, Ethel Waters, Cab Calloway, Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald. If you would like a more complete bio, click on the title of this blog...
Personally, I have listened to, and will listen to Shiny Stockings a few times in tribute to Frankie. He once told me it is his favorite song. It was always amazing to go to Frankie's workshops or listen to him speak. He was going to be 95 in May and he was still going! Dancers from around the world are filming their version of the Shim Sham ( a swing line dance) for his birthday, as well as the worldwide birthday bash that was being planned. Dancers aren't going to stop dancing because he has passed. Tonight, and every other night, dancers are going to "swing out" for Frankie!
