Infolinks for Advertising

I recently started using another advertising platform - Infolinks.

Its CTR and CPC is very similar to Kontera and Adbrite. On average, most clicks pay 4 to 5 cents for me. This is contextual advertising, so the content would have a lot to do with what ads appear and what you may earn from a click. It seems most of my sites and blogs do not possess high paying keywords that correspond to the clicks.

Now I have had a few 50 to 75 cent clicks which would be nice to have all the time.

The report center in Infolinks is very simple and straighforward. You have two choices with the reports available - Daily detail and Summary Only. The report center is not very advanced and doesn't allow such things as what url the viewer was on when they made a click or what keyword the ad corresponded to as Kontera has.

Basically, it will just show how many impressions per site and how many clicks. It also shows your CTR percentage and eCPM earnings, and of course earnings at the very end.

I find that having more than one advertising platform were website or blog has its advantages.

Infolinks also has what they call Page Related Tags, which I find are appealing to users. They are a series of related tags to the content that appear horizontally. When a user hovers over them, an ad will appear. You just take a simple snippet of code and place it where you want the tags to appear. Very simple to do.

If you are looking for another advertising platform, give Infolinks a try. You will have to submit an application, so try to use your best site or the site with the most traffic. My application was approve in about 2 days. Just be aware that you must get approval for domain based websites before you can put advertising code on the site. If you have a Blogger site/blog like this, you can just add code by going through the integration guide.

Good FTP Programs

If you work on or have your own website, you will most likely need to edit files at times. Most hosting providers will allow you to edit your files from within the control panel.

However, at times you may want to upload a website you have created. You might also be uploading a opensource CMS system such as phpNuke,osCommerce,phpBB,etc.
So, you will need to have a FTP program. I personally use Filezilla, which is easy to configure and use.

When you transfer files you need to know what type(s) of files you are transferring. The two types of files to transfer are ASCII and Binary. ASCII are data files such as HTML,php,asp,etc. Binary is used for images.

Today, most FTP programs will also allow you to set the transfer type to automatic which allows the program to transfer the files correctly. This usually work 99.9% of the time, but like all things sometimes a file can get corrupted in transfer.

Some other FTP programsinclude SmartFTP, CoreFTP, and GoFTP.

Some of these FTP programsare free to use, while others will give you a trial download. Filezilla and AceFTP are totally free to use.

Will adding a blog attract more traffic

This is a good question. Like many things though, it requires work. If you are going to add a blog, then most likely you will want to blog about subjects related to your site. Google considers subdomains to be like a separate domain from your main site.

So if your site is e.g. http://www.example.com, you could create a subdomain for your blog like e.g. http://blog.example.com. You could also name you subdirectory what your interests or the content is about like http://my-interests.example.com.

Like so many things when it comes to webmastering and web seo, results will not be overnight. More work is needed to make your blog visible to others and having it indexed by the search engine. To start, we would definately put a link on our homepage to the blog. We can also get it listed on such blog site as Technorati, My Blog Log, and Blog Catalog just to name a few.

Good content and having some expertise in your subject is what will attract visitors and also keep them coming back. Adding great articles is the main way to getting traffic. If your blog is good enough, people will also tell other people about your blog. So, just keep adding that content and watch the traffic increase.

A goog platform to use is Wordpress. Worpress is easy to install and configure. Wordpress also has tons of addons and themes that are easy to install.

What is up with Yahoo Publisher Network

Since I have a number of websites, I use some different advertising platforms. Once such platform is Yahoo Publisher Network.

Recently, I put a tracking script on a number of blogs and websites that is available from MyBlogLog.com (yeah!its owned by Yahoo!). One site I have gets between 1000 and 1500 page views a day. I was wondering for a while now why Yahoo! only gets 1 to 3 clicks a day. These earnings always seem to be very poor, 6 cents to 23 cents a day.

After putting the script on that site, I was showing 14 clicks the first day, 9 clicks a second day, and then 14 yesterday.

I sent a note to Yahoo Publisher Network advising them that I believe their reporting system, or atleast with my account, was not reporting the proper amount of clicks. They got back to me to say "their reporting system is currently working properly and can tell when people falsely clicked or clicked accidentally.

All I can say is that is a lot of accidental clicks. The amazing thing is that all clicks for ads other ad networks come up 100% as reported through the tracking script. That includes Adsense and Adbrite.

If this continues, I will just have to remove Yahoo Publisher Network from all blogs and sites. I guess I would lose that 6 to 23 cents a day but I think I will survive.

I just started using Bidvertiser on a few websites and blogs. Compared to Google Adsense one feature stands out. When you check out what advertisers are paying per ad, you can accept or deny their ads. Naturally, I declined all the six and seven cent ads and only kept ads that were paying 25 cents and above. Some even pay over $2 a click.

Google Adsense seems lately to be acting kind of funny. This blog among others I have listed in a MyBlogLog account. With that I can tell where people are coming from, what pages they viewed, and also what they clicked on. Here is the strange thing with Adsense. Within the past week, a Google Adsense ad was clicked on six times, this is over different days and on different blogs or sites. Of course, when checking my Google Adsense account the next day, no clicks are shown. Where did they go? I also notice most clicks anymore are only coming in at 4 cents, 6 cents, etc. At that rate, it pays to be able to use other PPC sites like Adbrite and BidVertiser.

What are Google Adsense Sites? Google Adsense Sites are preconfigured sites with articles,rss feeds,etc. that pull in top paying kewords from Google Adsense. If you ever see the "leave your job tomorrow and become a Google Adsense millionaire" this is probably a shady transaction where you will receive a millionaire making website.

Don't fall for it. Why? Well, if you bought one and just one other person buys the same one you now would have duplicate contect. In most cases their will be thousands of pages on the internet will the same exact duplicate content. Google penalizes for duplicate content.

Google Adsense is a great addition to a website or blog to generate additional revenue. However, I wouldn't expect to retire on it. Now, some sites do generate tons of traffic which can generate hundreds or thousands a day in additional income. For the average site owner or blogger its really great when ad revenue can just support the hosting and associated fees for the site or blog.

As stated before, there is no quick way to build traffic,make money,or build a good page rank. Like so many things in life, it just takes dedication and persistence.

I wrote previously about website content and also building good inbound links. So lets talk some about social networking.

Socail networks are a big thing today with such sites as MySpace,Facebook,and Twitter all experiencing huge user registrations and traffic. One good way to promote your site or sites is through social networks. Just about all if not all will allow you to put your website url in your profile or create a favorite links area.

With the amount of traffic going through these sites, any webmaster would be a fool not to include their site(s). I personally can tell by referrer urls that some traffic does indeed come from these sites where I have links posted in my account.

Blogging is also huge and a number of good bloggin site exist includng Technorati,MyBlogLog,BlogLines,and BlogCatalog.

Other popular sites that allow you to submit articles or bookmarks include Digg,StumbleUpon,and del.icio.us which are great for building inbound links,sharing links with others,and more importantly, getting traffic.

So use those sites to get more organic traffic and watch your page rank increase over time.

How can I get top search engine rankings?

Anyone who has a website want to know the answer to this question. Getting top search engine rankings isn't that easy. Do not be fooled by the "get top 10 rankings in Google in the next 24 hours". This just is not feasible.

First of all, your website needs content. You can't expect to have a page or two and have search engines flocking to it. As it is commonly said "content is king". Search engines also use different methods when indexing a site.

Search engines have also become much wiser than in the past. Do not use black hat techniques to get listed in search engines. Some common black hat trickes are to stuff targeted keywords into the page by making the text the same color as the background of the page. This is done so viewers do not see the stuffed text while the spiders do. This practice can get you penalized or even booted from some search engines.

One of the best ways to get indexed in search engines is to have relevant and meaningful content. Whether you have a website or a blog like this one, you need to have content that the user is looking for. When the internet was pretty new, people would stuff keywords on a site that they knew people would be looking for. Take a google search sometime for "sex" or "make money" and see the number of results.

The term "sex" in Google shows 857,000,000 results and I am sure it is growning more at this moment. The term "make money" on Google shows 119,000,000 and growing. So if you are trying to get listed by having content with those terms, I am sure it will be a long time until you can even find your site.

Getting other sites to link to you is another important factor as well as some social site like Digg or StumbleUpon. The more users that bookmark your site, the more a search engine will think you must have something relevant to say regarding that tag.

Use good titles,descriptions,and keywords for each and every page on a site. Google for one does not like to index a website where the title,description,and keywords are the same on multiple pages. If you use Google Webmaster Tools, you can see what pages or problems Google has with a site you have.

Like most things in life, having a good website is hard work. Setting up a site and some pages can be done in a few hours. Adding good content and promoting a site requires a lifetime. One of the best things to remember is to have a site that is about something you really love or have an interest in. Also, never give up. A site takes time. Getting traffic takes time. Having a successful time requires persistence so don't give up in one or two years because you don't have the same amount of traffic as YouTube.

With so many scams on the internet,one can be a little leary when it comes to
the "make easy money" emails and internet advertising that is so common today.

There are some sites that are legitimate.Two of these in my experience are Readerspaid.com and also Cashcrate.com.

Of the two,Cashcrate.com is the better one. Readerspaid pays you to click ads
which only pay a few cents or you can also sign up for the offers and earn
cash.Supposedly,surveys are coming in the very near future. You can cash out
after you accumulate $50.00. This is paid to you through PayPal.

Cashcrate.com pays a lot more for the ads you view and sign up for.Also,if you do
signup for a free offer or take a paid offering, the pay is really good. Like
anything though,I would just sign up for things you are interested in.

They also have surveys that pay at least 80 cents a survey. Alot of the free offers
pay pretty well too.

Though some people may find them annoying,inline ads are becoming a common site for websites.

Inline ads are the ads that when you hover the mouse over certain words on the page,an ad will appear. Some common networks that use these ads are Ads-Click.comand Adbrite.

Although these ads may seem annoying to some users,they can greatly raise the advertising revenue for a website.Usually,when setting up the code you can
select how many underlined words you wish to have on a page.Roughly,it's from 1
to 10 keywords.

These inline ads can also enhance a site when optimized if not overdone.

If you have an email address, I am sure you get all kinds of get rich quick schemes. Whether is from a prince in Nigeria or "make $10,000 a month automatically".

No matter what you do or who you work for the bottom line is that you have to provide a service or sell a product.

Since last year Good Morning America has shown a number of segments on Real Work at Home Jobs. Yes! They are legitimate.

I did check out a few and has good results with one, while at the same time have been trying to get into a few others.

The first one I started with is LiveOps.com. LiveOps take orders from hundreds of clients who have one or more products. Some of the products include the "More Natural Cures" series, Hip Hop Abs, Little Giant Ladder, and more. They also provide support for Pizza Hut and Papa John's.

What you do is apply. If LiveOps is interested you will receive a packet of forms in the mail concerning procedures and policies, tax forms, and a consent to perform a credit and background check. You do have to pay for the background and credit check.

When hired, you will proceded to take a series of quizzes concerning how to use the website to take calls, check email, deal with callers concerns, etc.

Whenever you are ready to take calls, you log into a VCC or Virtual Call Center, which is just like any chat room on the internet. Here you receive calls and take orders. The pay can vary but is usually 25 cents a minute of talk time. You can increase your earnings if customers take offers like magazines and club memberships.

Some scripts are very short and easy while others are long and drawn out. The upside being that the longer scripts give you more talk time and therefor more money.

You can actually make a decent living or a great second income depending on your performance. It is realistic to make $50 to $100 a day. The weekends are the busiest and also the most profitable.

The one key here is that you can work when you wish to work. To stay an active agent, you only need to log in and take calls at least once every six months.

How can you get a good inlinks to your website

To get good search rankings, you need to have good relevant inbound links to your site. The tried and true method is to contact other webmasters with similar sites and ask to do a link exchange between both sites.

This can be a benefit to both sites if both have a similar page ranking and have similar traffic stats. The problem is that most sites with good traffic do not want to exchange links with new sites or sites that have little content, or worse yet, can be a competitor.

There is software available to make link exchanging easier. My favorite is Link Machine. This easy to use program will allow you to exchange links automatically with other link machine users or let you search for sites by category or keyword.

Link exchanging does not get any easier than this. Any site I have used it on has at least three keywords that will show up in the top ten of the three major search engines. I also use IBP for site optimization.

Finally, be aware that your website color scheme should reflect the product or offering you make. The subconscious mind of your visitors will automatically relate the color of your page with the message that's on it. If you give out a mixed message in terms of color and offer, the subconscious mind will not even attempt to reconcile the two. Which means, your visitor will be lost. You should spend time in determining what are the right colors for your web pages. Try and make sure your colors and message are in harmony. If you do this, your website will produce the results you're looking for. In summary, the difference between the right and wrong color scheme on your website can be the difference between profit and loss.

The Basic Layout of an HTML document

At the very least, a HTML document or webpage will contain the following tags.

The very opening tag of html tells a browser this is an html document to interpret. Remember HTML just tells the browser how to display the document. Other important tags that might be present include for bold, for italics, for the background color of the document, etc. You can find all the tags by doing a search on Google for "HTML tags".

Next, we have the head tags which indicate the header section of the document. If you were to use some javascript, some code would probably be placed in between the head tags.

Then we have the title tags. Whatever is put between these will be the title of the document and be shown at the top of your browser.

In your body tags is the actual meat and potatoes of the page or document. Here is where you will be putting text, images, table, etc. that will represent what is displayed on the actual page.

Finally, we having the closing html tag that says this is the end of this page or document. HTML is alot of fun.

You can easily make a page using Notepad, Word, or any text editor. My favorite text editor is Editplus. Very easy to use and yet very powerful for HTML editing.

Creating a website can be easy or complex depending on what you want to do. Sites can be made that are typically static or interactive.

A static site is usually a site that just provides information to the user. Static sites may include an organization,charity,or personal site that just provides information and may include a form or email to such as "Contact us" where you can reach the owners by email.

An interactive site is more complex and allows the user to create an account, use tools on the site, or perform actions that will direct the user based on their actions. These websites will usually use a database to store user information such as account information or user preferences.

Creating a website can be tailored to the webmaster's skills. The old fashioned way is to use HTML code or tags to display the site. Another poplular way is to use a WYSISYG editor. This stands for What You See Is What You Get editor where elements are put on the page by using menus,copy and paste options,or labels. These are great for those new to creating web sites.

More complex programs are Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia's Dreamweaver software. Dreamweaver is the more complex and powerful of the two, which allows the user of such things as Flash and very powerful editing tools.

A website is really a collection of files that reside on a server and can be accessed through a browser (Internet Explorer,Mozilla Firefox,Opera,etc).

A person will normally type in an address such as http://www.example.com or www.example.com

Depending on the type of operating system of the server and the language used for the pages, the default page will be index.htm, index.html, index.php, default.asp, etc. This is normally the home page of the starting point of the website.

Navigation of the website should be user friendly and a user should know where they are easily. A common method to help the user navigate is the use of breadcrumbs, which give the user to see where they are related to the home page or "top" of the site.

Navigation of the site will usually be in the form of navigatin menus located at the top, left side, or both.

Each link to other pages of the website such be descriptive and give the user an idea of what the page is about.
