TVTalksShows.com won’t knock you down with its design or layout, but it must be doing something right. According to PC Data Online, Trevor Rieger’s site, TVTalkShows.com gets more traffic than the heavily promoted Ricki Lake and Jerry Springer sites. It has also gotten the attention of the New York Times. What’s Trevor’s secret? It’s simple. He built a web site on his passion and continues to develop it daily.

Here’s another successful site built on the owner’s experience. If you have never been involved in a car buying scam, you probably know someone who has. Jeff Ostroff took his own car-buying experience to the web and is now helping people avoid many of the scams people may run into when searching for that perfect vehicle. As you may have guessed, he has made quite a few enemies with some car dealerships but that number means very little when you think about the consumers he’s helped.

Ray Owens cashes in on people’s laughter. He runs JokeaDay.com, a site full of jokes, puns, riddles, and knee-slappers. You can even find the “joke of the day” on his homepage. This is a brilliant concept for getting people to return to his site regularly. To bring in additional revenue, Ray offers a “Premium Subscriptions” section where visitors can obtain access to more jokes for a small fee.

If you read the pro’s and con’s of free web hosting then I am confident that you will going with a paid hosting company.

A web host provides you with the space, tools and support to create your web pages and email accounts (you@yourdomain.com).

This is where all the action happens, so please read this page carefully to ensure that you choose the most appropriate option for your site.

It’s important to note that you do not have to host your site at the same place you register your domain name.

You could register your domain name at Godaddy.com and then choose to host your site some place else like HostGator.com, for example.
Why HostGator Hosting?

I often recommend HostGator because they offer an enormous amount of space for such a very low price.

In fact, they recently upgraded their plans and offer UNLIMITED SPACE. Yes, you have an unlimited amount of space for your web pages, which is almost unheard of with web hosting companies.

HostGator

A great option for large (or expanding) sites because they provide an unlimited amount of space. Quite honestly all these plans have enough space for almost anyone, but HostGator is by far the most generous.

This is the only hosting option that offers a built-in shopping cart (shared ssl), so if you plan to sell products then you should keep this in mind.

They also provide a built-in web page builder for beginners with tons of design templates. Or if you want, you can use your own program like CoffeeCup or my favorite, Dreamweaver.

When you are registering your name, just select the hosting option that says you’ll “park your domain here for free”. This just means that you are using another company (HostGator) to host your site. Then after your domain has been registered you’ll go to HostGator’s site to sign up for hosting.

Site Build It

This host is strictly for money making sites only. I am actually a customer and I used it to build another  site.

I earn around $1,000+ per month from this site through ads and referrals. I don’t sell any products directly, it’s all affiliate income. What’s even better is the site basically makes money on autopilot.

In fact, that site gets found in the search engines for over 10,000 different keywords in the course of a month. SBI! coaches you as you create every page to ensure you receive maximum traffic.

Cons with Free Web Hosting

1. You do not own the domain name. For example lets say I own FreeHost.com and I let you put up your new site RoseGarden on the site. Your website url will be RoseGarden.FreeHost.com and not what you would want to have RoseGarden.com This is what is known as a sub domain.
2. You really do not have creative control over your website. The space that you are allotted with a free host is minimal. It may work fine for a couple of pages but if you would like to expand your site then most likely run over your allotted space.
3. In most cases there will be advertisements plastered on your site that you do not have any control over. This is one of the ways your FreeHost can make money to off you the free services.
4. Most of the free hosting plans that I have seen have a set period of time that your account will remain free then you must either take your site down or convert to their paid hosting plan.
5. Search engine ranking will be all but non existent. As the search engines get better and better algorithms sub domains on free hosting accounts sink deeper into the abyss. This is a key factor because if your site is not ranked in the search engines you not see any organic traffic
6. E-mail accounts. You will not have any.  No ability to brand your site via email. ex. tom@rosegarden.com
7. Little to no customer service if you have server issues, you get what you pay for.

Paid Hosting advantages over Free Hosting.

1. Obtain your own name RoseGarden.com, it will be brand-able and you can monetize it.
2. With many discount hosting providers in the market you can certainly find a host that has all the space requirements that you will need as cheap as 4.95 monthly.
3. Since you are paying for a service you will have the creative control over which advertisers you choose to place on your site.
4. Once you obtain your hosting account you know exactly what your cost are without having to worry if the price you agreed upon will go up.
5. With proper SEO techniques you will be able to gain rankings in the search engines and watch your organic traffic grow.
6. Branded email accounts such as webmaster@RoseGarden.com
7. Customer service that will take the time to answer your questions while you are able to put your time into marketing your site.

As you may be able to gather I am not a big fan of the free hosting accounts. If you are looking to put up a simple site that contains one or two pages then they are fine. If you are going to monatize your site then I would not go with any free web hosting provider.

I currently use HostGator and DowntownHost as my providers for web hosting. I have not had any major issues with either one. This blog is hosted with HostGator. With so many different web hosting provider in the market today I suggest that you look at Hosting Incentive, they review the many different hosts and even offer coupons for many of them.

What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is your identification on the world wide web. A domain name is like buying real estate with a physical address. The only difference is that the address is virtual property. A domain name is actually an ip address e.g. 651.66.0.4 which consist of numbers and dots.

A domain name is much easier to remember than an ip address.
