1. Never shop hungry

This is the oldest trick in the book but nonetheless it's still a must and will stop you running straight to the chocolate/ice cream/crisp aisle as soon as you get to the store. Having a healthy snack before you shop will mean that you're less driven by what you want to buy and more by what you should be buying, often meaning that you'll spend a lot less on junk food in favour of more nutritionally balanced ingredients that are better for you and baby.

2. Say no to your nose

Ever wondered why supermarkets always smell of fresh bread even though the bakery is by the back of the store? Well, rumour has it that to get our taste buds going they actually pump this smell forward to the front of the shop to create that same tummy rumbling 'must have carbs' effect that shopping hungry has. So, next time you do your weekly shop, enjoy the smell but avoid falling into their cunning trap!

3. Make a shopping list

Again, another oldie but it's a classic money saving tip for a good reason. When you plan your meals for the week in advance, check what you already have in your cupboards and write down the list of ingredients you need before you even leave the house you're onto a winner for two reasons. Firstly, you're far more likely to only buy the things you need (so you won't end up with 7 bags of pasta and 12 tins of tuna in the cupboard) and avoid expensive and unnecessary impulse buys that will see you throwing away good food that is past its best - this is very easily done with fruit and veg. 4. Say no to short cut food

As with most things in life, the more that you are willing to do yourself, the less you'll pay and this stands true for the weekly food shop too. By avoiding convenience foods in favour of fresh, 'cook it yourself' ingredients you'll not only end up with a healthier diet but will also start to notice the difference in your food bill. However, this not only applies to microwave meals (that let's face it aren't great for us anyway), but also to the bags of lettuce, ready boiled rice, pre-chopped carrots and grated cheese that make life that bit easier but also add pounds to your shopping tab. The same can be said for bagged fruit and vegetables - pick out your own and you're not only guaranteed to get your hands on the best they have on offer but will also save yourself a few pennies too.

5. Look a shelf lower

This may sound like a strange tip but there is a method to our madness! Supermarkets place the brand products that they know you'll recognise and automatically put in your trolley at eye level, 'hiding' the cheaper own brand products on lower shelves. There's often very little difference between brand products and the supermarkets own offerings so try going down a brand and test which products cut the cost without compromising on quality. Downgrading from brand products to 'supermarket's own' products across the board (or even just on half your shopping) will make a huge difference to the cost of your shopping as you're not paying for the brand name or fancy packaging. You should apply the same logic to fruit and vegetables as 'value' items tend just to be those that didn't make the grade in terms of appearance but will be no less tasty.

6. Only BOGOF on non-perishables

Spur of the moment buys will help send your weekly food budget out the window so only take advantage of special offers on products that you would have bought anyway. This is particularly the case with non-perishables like shampoo and conditioner as well as freezer food that you'll know you'll eat. However, the branded 'special offer' products that often sit on the end of aisles should be eyed with caution as they may simply be encouraging you to spend more on something you don't need.

7. Stock up

It's often a lot cheaper to bulk buy non-perishable products such as tea bags and washing powder so going for a bigger box to keep in the cupboard can really help you to economise. Compare the cost per kilogram (kg) detailed on the price labels next time you're in store and see how much buying ahead can save you.

8. Shop outside the box

Fat is the most calorie-dense food group: each gram has nine calories, compared to four calories for carbohydrate and protein. So if the aim is to create a calorie deficit in your diet, then cutting down on high-fat foods is a good place to start.

Reducing fat intake

Healthy eating guidelines recommend that a maximum of 30 per cent of calories in the diet should come from fat; a low-fat diet for weight loss will typically reduce this to around 20 per cent. However, as usual, the total energy intake is what counts on a low-fat diet just by replacing fatty foods with high-sugar, high-calorie foods, so it is important to keep an eye on the overall balance of the diet, too.
What you can eat
As we have seen, some fats are essential for good health while an excess of others can be harmful. The fats in a low-fat diet should primarily be ‘good’ monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats, such as those that are found in olive oil or oily fish, for example. Saturated fats, which are found in foods such as fatty meat and poultry skin or full-fat dairy products, should be kept to a minimum, as should ‘trans fats’- hydrogenated vegetable oils, which are most often found in processed foods.

Low-fats diets will control the amount of fat in different ways- for example, by recommending eating only foods that have 4 grams of fats or less per 100g, or by having a system for counting or measuring foods.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are taking PDA to another level. Before locking lips in front of millions at the Billboard Music Awards -- and being photographed with the Disney star's hand dangerously high on the BieberThigh -- the pair were spotted in all their puppy love glory at LA's airport.

"They are so cute together," a friend who saw the young couple check in together at LAX on their way to Vegas for the awards show. "They cut the line right in front of me in first class and were holding hands and giggling."

My spy in first class was about to confront them, "then I saw they were so in love it made me smile. Ah, young love, nothing is more beautiful."

The pair even took time to help shout out orders at Starbucks after the barristas mixed up a few orders. The fun moment highlights just young this kids are -- she's 18, he's 17.

"You forget how young they both are until you see them up close," the traveler tells me. "It looks like he hasn't started shaving yet. His skin is as perfect as hers. But one thing is for sure, they certainly were not trying to hide the obvious fact they are a couple."

Later on that evening when Justin won for Best New Artist Selena gave him a big kiss on the lips. "She's amazing," Bieber said in the press room after taking home six awards Sunday night. Before, they had only been seen holding hands at the Vanity Fair Oscars party.

12 Fun and Depressing Stats From Oscar

The 83^rd Academy Awards are over, and not a minute too soon for most viewers. No major surprises in the big categories; even the most ardent believers in David Fincher cannot feign adequate shock that Best Director matched the Director's Guild choice for the 56 in 60 tries (not counting Steven Spielberg & Ron Howard who were not nominated after winning DGA, respectively, in 1985 & 1995.)

When Tom Hanks took the stage to introduce the first two awards of the night with a few nifty stats, it looked as if the Oscars were trying to steal the shtick of us Oscarwatching statisticians. Though really what kind of stat is a film winning Best Picture, Art Direction & Cinematography? An odd combo that means little to the numbers geeks and probably even less to the young viewers they were trying to court with their new hosts. The show pretty much dropped the stats game after Hanks' intro, but we thought we would dig a little to find a few more interesting tidbits, whether you like it or not.

1. 'The King's Speech' became the 11th film since 1975 to win Best Picture without benefit of a single victory in the technical department. The other ten are 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'Annie Hall', 'Kramer vs. Kramer', 'Ordinary People', 'Terms of Endearment', 'Rain Man', 'The Silence of the Lambs', 'A Beautiful Mind', 'Million Dollar Baby', and 'No Country for Old Men.'

2. 'True Grit' joins 'The Turning Point' and 'The Color Purple' as films with double-digit nominations to leave without winning a single award. For the second straight year, four of the ten Best Picture nominees went home empty-handed. (NOTE: 'Turning' & 'Purple' received 11 nominations with 0 wins. Martin Scorsese's 'Gangs of New York' received 10 nods and went home empty.)

3. 'Inception' became only the 8th film in Oscar history to win Visual Effects and both Sound Oscars (Mixing & Editing) in 33 years of their co-existence. Christopher Nolan's film joins the company of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', 'E.T.', 'Terminator 2', 'Jurassic Park', 'Titanic', 'The Matrix' and Peter Jackson's 'King Kong.'

4. Colin Firth joins 33 other actors to appear in three Oscar-winning Best Pictures, including his 'English Patient' nemesis, Ralph Fiennes - whose fellow cameoing co-star in 'The Hurt Locker', Guy Pearce, joins Russell Crowe and Michael Pena as the only actors in this century to appear in back-to-back Best Picture winners.

5. Christian Bale won the Oscar with his first nomination. Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, and Melissa Leo won Oscars for second. That is better luck than fellow actors Amy Adams and Annette Bening who are now 0-for-3 and 0-for-4 respectively. Also coming up empty on his fourth try was composer Alexandre Desplat. Plus, a favorite in many circles, Roger Deakins, lost the Cinematography Oscar for the ninth time (five of them for working with the Coens), making him the most (or least) honored living cinematographer. Only George J. Folsey ('Seven Brides for Seven Brothers') received more nominations (13) without winning an Oscar.

6. Melissa Leo's win was only the 16th out of 50 times that the winner of one of the supporting categories was victorious over an actor from their own film. The last time was 2002 when Catherine Zeta-Jones defeated Queen Latifah for 'Chicago.'

7. This was only the 8th time in Oscar history that the two supporting categories boasted winners from the same film:

The last time a film won both the Art Direction & Costume Oscars was 2005 with 'Memoirs of a Geisha,' which marked the end of a five-year streak for this feat. All three of Colleen Atwood's victories also saw her film win Best Art Direction as well, including 'Alice in Wonderland', 'Memoirs of a Geisha', and 'Chicago.'

9. Rick Baker won his seventh Oscar for 'The Wolfman' on the 30th anniversary of him winning the inaugural award for Best Makeup for 'An American Werewolf In London.'

10. 'The Social Network' became only the third film in Oscar history to win Best Editing and a Screenplay award and not win Best Picture. The others were 'A Place In The Sun' (1951), 'Witness' (1985), and 'Traffic' (2000)

11. If you do not count Tom Hooper's first feature, 'Red Dust', which played the 2004 Toronto Film Festival before hitting UK television and an eventual DVD release, he joins the likes of still-living heavyweights Mike Nichols ('The Graduate'), Michael Cimino ('The Deer Hunter'), Warren Beatty ('Reds') and Mel Gibson ('Braveheart'), all of whom won Best Director for only their second released directorial feature.

12. At 3 hrs and 15 mins, it was the 2nd shortest Oscarcast since 1986. It trailed only 2005's ceremony by a single minute, proving the old joke about the food sucking - and such small portions too.

Royal Newlyweds Return Home from Honeymoon

After tying the knot in front of millions last month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge followed up with a super-private honeymoon that ended Friday, a royal statement confirms.

Prince William and Kate Middleton quietly jetted off to a remote Indian Ocean island retreat in the Seychelles, about 1,000 miles east of Kenya, to indulge in a sun-and-sand vacation out of the public eye.

The newlyweds "thoroughly enjoyed their time together, and they are grateful to the Seychelles government for their assistance in making the honeymoon such a memorable and special 10 days," says an official press release from St. James Palace.

"They left happy, and clearly content with their stay," said the head of the Seychelles tourism board, who reportedly witnessed the couple departing for home.

The exclusive holiday was also incredibly expensive. Sources say the cost of security to keep prying eyes away contributed significantly to a honeymoon price tag of more than $700,000.

Still, a pair of commoners nearly crashed the newlyweds' vacation. An Austrian couple sailing a catamaran in the Seychelles spied what they assumed was a deserted isle, but claimed that when they tried landing there, security personnel for the royal couple quickly asked them to leave.

Now that his getaway in the Seychelles is over, Prince William, second in line to the British throne, is heading to another island: He'll soon resume his duties as a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot on the island of Anglesey, in Wales.

Leonardo DiCaprio's Ladies: He Gets Older, They Stay the Same Age

Leonardo DiCaprio is what some might call a serial monogamist. His relationships actually last longer than most Hollywood marriages, but like all good things in Tinsel Town, they inevitably come to an end.

Of course it hasn't escaped our attention that dear Leo, despite his love of long-term love, is consistently trading in his blondes for new models (literally, new models, save for the latest purported romance with starlet Blake Lively ... who actually does model for Chanel). Before Lars von Trier went on a Nazi rampage that got him kicked out of the Cannes Film Festival, the Danish director said something very astute about men in the film industry: As they get older, they surround themselves with women who are both younger and more scantily clad.

Leo isn't exactly old, but at 36, he is closer to 40 than 30 these days, and he does seem to be living the cliché. Let's take a stroll down DiCaprio memory lane.

From 2002 to 2005, DiCaprio dated supermodel Gisele Bundchen. He was 27. She was 21. Then along came Israeli model Bar Refaeli in 2006. He was 31. She was 20. And now dear Blake, at 23, practically an old lady in Leo years, except the age difference between Leo and his blonde has grown to a sizable 13 years.

To paraphrase Matthew McConaughey from that timeless classic 'Dazed and Confused,' Leo gets older, they stay the same age.

Just about everyone in Cannes has a Blake and Leo canoodling story -- some saw them cozied up on a yacht with Stephen Spielberg, while a contingent of guests saw them strolling the beach outside the Stella Artois Chez Jacques beach house.

Selena Gomez Blushes Over Justin Bieber on 'Ellen'

Everyone is dying to hear Selena Gomez open up about her relationship with Justin Bieber, but while the 'Who Says' singer is still keeping the details under wraps, her recent appearance on 'The Ellen Degeneres Show' makes it clear that she's smitten with the pop star.

In the interview, Ellen calls Selena out for denying her relationship with Justin last year in September. At the time, she said the Canadian singer was like her "little brother." Selena watched the clip from the 2010 show and hid her face with her hair.

"Don't take me to jail!" she said, referencing the fact that she will be turning 19 soon and Justin is still underage. Then, to further embarrass her, Ellen whipped out a present for Selena -- a pillow with Justin's face on it.

"I got you a little gift, because I know you're apart from Justin and I don't want you to miss him too much," the talk show host explained.

I feel, there is nothing like to be scared of summer Although its little difficult to maintain make up due to dryness of skin and perspiration’s and very few options available in summer make ups but still you should not be scared of it at all. Here are a few tips, that would keep your make up good and shall provide you the confidence, while having good make up even if its summer.

Properly cleanse your face before applying anything on the face. Apply SPF for approx 10 minutes on washed face and then clean it, since UVA and UVB rays may harm the skin.

Use SPF factor of 15 or above during the summer;

Must use moisturizer and then apply primer and later the make up, as this is the best sequence especially for summer.
Instead of putting lot of makeup on the face and look like a crown, its good to wear very less and light colored makeup.
Apply bronzer once you are going out in the summer. But select an appropriate color, so that you do not look pale.
Try to purchase separate makeup kits for summer, since these use special chemicals that does not spoil your skin even when mix with perspirations and sun shine.

Carey’s representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to The Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs., 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches. And it was just as Cannon predicted. “I’m not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so … It’s probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it,” Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. “We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown.” Berger says they were listening to Carey’s “We Belong Together” after the children were born … As for the origin of their babies’ names, Cannon told PEOPLE in January that the couple had aimed for unique but not wacky. “They won’t be crazy names like Carburetor or something,” he promised. “But they’re definitely unique.”

The couple, both 28, have chosen Westminster Abbey in the spring for their big day — and today said they were on "Cloud Nine".

The announcement was made at St James's Palace after a series of intense meetings between the royal household and Government officials.

St James's Palace sources ruled out any date before Tuesday April 26 because of Lent and Bank Holidays.

And aides urged them to balance their determination for a short engagement with hope for sunshine.

Happy Brits will be toasting the couple as the wedding means it will be a three-day working week.

Downing Street announced today workers will get an extra day off for the nuptials, which will follow the Easter Monday Bank Holiday on April 25.

Thousands of foreign tourists are set to flock to the capital for the wedding - which is expected to bring a massive boost to Britain's economy.

William and Kate were not in London as the details were confirmed.

He is on shift as an RAF search and rescue pilot in Anglesey, North Wales.

She is expected to return from Wales to her family home in Bucklebury, Berks, later today.

Royal tradition pointed towards a week day — Prince Charles wed Diana on Wednesday, July 29, 1981.

But Camilla married Charles on a Saturday because of a delay caused by the death of the Pope.

Westminster Abbey was the favourite venue to host the wedding after Kate was photographed leaving the historic place of worship in central London last week.

Sadly, the Abbey was also the venue of William's mother's funeral in September 1997.

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, private secretary to Prince William, said the couple chose Westminster Abbey for its "staggering beauty", 1,000-year Royal history and intimacy despite its size.

He said today: "The venue has long associations with the Royal family - it is in many ways the Royal family's church - and of course with Prince William personally.

"For Miss Middleton, the associations she has with the Abbey are quite simply the same as any British person would have for such a glorious and holy place."

By coincidence April 29 is St Catherine's Day, named after St Catherine of Siena, a nun who refused to marry and starved herself to death back in 1380.

She is the patron saint of fire prevention, bodily ills and sexual temptation and devoted herself to a life of fasting, prayer and service.

Catherine spent years nursing in hospitals, helping the poor and giving advice and support to people in prison and apparently even used to suck the pus out of her patients' wounds.

It was only on 5 May 1940 that Pope Pius XII named her a joint Patron Saint of Italy along with Saint Francis of Assisi.

Today, St James's Palace also announced that the wedding - including the costs of the church service, music, flowers, decorations, reception and honeymoon - will be paid for by the Royal family and the Middleton family.

Mr Lowther-Pinkerton said those planning the nuptials were very conscious of Britain's precarious finances.

He said: "All parties involved in the wedding, not least Prince William and Miss Middleton, want to ensure that a balance is struck between an enjoyable day and the current economic situation."

The aide added William and Kate were "completely over the moon" about their engagement.

He said: "I've never seen two happier people, which is absolutely fabulous to work in that sort of environment.

"They're on Cloud Nine, like any other newly-engaged couple.

"They're now getting stuck into organising their wedding. They are very much in charge of the arrangements for the big day.

"They're giving us and the Household office very firm direction indeed."

Prime Minister David Cameron said today: "The wedding of Kate and William will be a happy and momentous occasion.

"We want to mark the day as one of national celebration. A public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day.

"The costs of the wedding itself will be met by the Royal Household, with Government meeting any wider security or transport related costs."

Mr Cameron was consulted on the date of the wedding, which will be less than a week before the local elections and expected referendum on voting reform on May 5 2011.

A senior Royal aide said: "He was very content with the selection of the date."

The couple are said to be keen on making their wedding a national celebration and a concert in Hyde Park to mark the occasion has been proposed.

The aide refused to confirm any further plans but said: "Their view on it would be, 'let's have a party'."

A Palace source today defended the length of time it has taken to arrange the crunch details and make them official.

He said: "It's still only a relatively short time since they got engaged — we're only on working day five.

"We've got to make sure everything is in place before we announce it to the world.

"Events like this do take time to get clearance on. There is no particular hold up."

The couple spent yesterday at their isolated farmhouse in Anglesey.

Stunning brunette Kate went to Waitrose in nearby Menai Bridge to stock up on food.

It is the first time she has been spotted in North Wales since the engagement was revealed.

As news of her death Wednesday spread, it was clear how many were still entranced. Fellow stars, fans and heads of state were nearly as helpless as Clift's George Eastman.

Her former husband, former Sen. John W. Warner recalled her "classic face and majestic eyes." Joan Collins remembered Taylor as "the last of the true Hollywood icons." Elton John said she embodied "the very essence of glamorous movie stardom."

Taylor died early Wednesday of congestive heart failure, said her publicist Sally Morrison. She was surrounded by her four children at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized for about six weeks.

Film critic Vincent Canby once wrote that Taylor "represents the complete movie phenomenon - what movies are as an art and an industry and what they have meant to us who have grown up watching them in the dark."

She may have been the quintessential movie star, but Taylor's life was far messier than her on-screen icon. As flawless as she was in celluloid, she was utterly human off-screen. Her stormy personal life - she was married eight times, including twice to Richard Burton - made her an early template for modern celebrity. Most, though, didn't find her diva-like, but self-deprecating, generous and funny.

"I, along with the critics, have never taken myself very seriously," she said, accepting a lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute in 1993.

Perhaps because of her looks, Taylor often wasn't considered a great actress. But she was utterly suited to the medium: sensual, fiery, vulnerable and innocent. She won three Academy Awards, including a special one for her humanitarian work.

She was an ardent and early supporter of AIDS research, when HIV was new to the industry and beyond. The American Foundation for AIDS Research noted in a statement that she was "among the first to speak out on behalf of people living with HIV when others reacted with fear and often outright hostility."

One of her Oscars came for her performance in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" She played an alcoholic shrew in an emotionally sadomasochistic marriage opposite Burton.

For all the ferocity of her screen roles and the turmoil of her life, Taylor was remembered by "Virginia Woolf" director Mike Nichols for her gentler, life-affirming side.

The historical epic "Cleopatra" is among Hollywood's greatest on-screen fiascos and a landmark of off-screen monkey business, the meeting ground of Taylor and Burton, the "Brangelina" of their day.

To many, her defining role, one that lasted past her moviemaking days, was "Elizabeth Taylor," ever marrying and divorcing, in and out of hospitals, gaining and losing weight, standing by Michael Jackson, Rock Hudson and other troubled friends, acquiring a jewelry collection that seemed to rival Tiffany's.

She was a child star who grew up and aged before an adoring, appalled and fascinated public. She arrived in Hollywood when the studio system tightly controlled an actor's life and image, had more marriages than any publicist could explain away and carried on until she no longer required explanation. She was the industry's great survivor, and among the first to reach that special category of celebrity - famous for being famous, for whom her work was inseparable from the gossip around it.

The London-born actress was a star at age 12, a bride and a divorcee at 18, a superstar at 19 and a widow at 26. She was a screen sweetheart and martyr later reviled for stealing Eddie Fisher from Debbie Reynolds, then for dumping Fisher to bed Burton, a relationship of epic passion and turbulence, lasting through two marriages and countless attempted reconciliations.

She was also forgiven. Reynolds would acknowledge voting for Taylor when she was nominated for "BUtterfield 8" and decades later co-starred with her old rival in "These Old Broads," co-written by Carrie Fisher, the daughter of Reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

Taylor's ailments wore down the grudges. She underwent at least 20 major operations and she nearly died from a bout with pneumonia in 1990. In 1994 and 1995, she had both hip joints replaced, and in February 1997, she underwent surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. In 1983, she acknowledged a 35-year addiction to sleeping pills and painkillers. Taylor was treated for alcohol and drug abuse problems at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Her troubles bonded her to her peers and the public, and deepened her compassion. Her advocacy for AIDS research and for other causes earned her a special Oscar, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, in 1993.

As she accepted it, to a long ovation, she declared, "I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being - to prove that we are a human race, to prove that our love outweighs our need to hate, that our compassion is more compelling than our need to blame."

The dark-haired Taylor made an unforgettable impression in Hollywood with "National Velvet," the 1945 film in which the 12-year-old belle rode a steeplechase horse to victory in the Grand National.

Critic James Agee wrote of her: "Ever since I first saw the child ... I have been choked with the peculiar sort of adoration I might have felt if we were in the same grade of primary school."

"National Velvet," her fifth film, also marked the beginning of Taylor's long string of health issues. During production, she fell off a horse. The resulting back injury continued to haunt her.

Taylor matured into a ravishing beauty in "Father of the Bride" in 1950, and into a respected performer and femme fatale the following year in "A Place in the Sun," based on the Theodore Dreiser novel "An American Tragedy." The movie co-starred her close friend Clift as the ambitious young man who drowns his working-class girlfriend to be with the socialite Taylor. In real life, too, men all but committed murder in pursuit of her.

Through the rest of the 1950s and into the 1960s, she and Marilyn Monroe were Hollywood's great sex symbols, both striving for appreciation beyond their physical beauty, both caught up in personal dramas filmmakers could only wish they had imagined. That Taylor lasted, and Monroe died young, was a matter of luck and strength; Taylor lived as she pleased and allowed no one to define her but herself.

"I don't entirely approve of some of the things I have done, or am, or have been. But I'm me. God knows, I'm me," Taylor said around the time she turned 50.

She had a remarkable and exhausting personal and professional life. Her marriage to Michael Todd ended tragically when the producer died in a plane crash in 1958. She took up with Fisher, married him, then left him for Burton. Meanwhile, she received several Academy Award nominations and two Oscars.

She was a box-office star cast in numerous "prestige" films, from "Raintree County" with Clift to "Giant," an epic co-starring her friends Hudson and James Dean. Nominations came from a pair of movies adapted from work by Tennessee Williams: "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Suddenly, Last Summer." In "BUtterfield 8," released in 1960, she starred with Fisher as a doomed girl-about-town. Taylor never cared much for the film, but her performance at the Oscars wowed the world.

Sympathy for Taylor's widowhood had turned to scorn when she took up with Fisher, who had supposedly been consoling her over the death of Todd. But before the 1961 ceremony, she was hospitalized from a nearly fatal bout with pneumonia and Taylor underwent a tracheotomy. The scar was bandaged when she appeared at the Oscars to accept her best actress trophy for "BUtterfield 8."

To a standing ovation, she hobbled to the stage. "I don't really know how to express my great gratitude," she said in an emotional speech. "I guess I will just have to thank you with all my heart." It was one of the most dramatic moments in Academy Awards history.

"Hell, I even voted for her," Reynolds later said.

Greater drama awaited: "Cleopatra." Taylor met Burton while playing the title role in the 1963 epic, in which the brooding, womanizing Welsh actor co-starred as Mark Antony. Their chemistry was not immediate. Taylor found him boorish; Burton mocked her physique. But the love scenes on film continued away from the set and a scandal for the ages was born. Headlines shouted and screamed. Paparazzi, then an emerging breed, snapped and swooned. Their romance created such a sensation that the Vatican denounced the happenings as the "caprices of adult children."

The film so exceeded its budget that the producers lost money even though "Cleopatra" was a box-office hit and won four Academy awards. (With its $44 million budget adjusted for inflation, "Cleopatra" remains the most expensive movie ever made.) Taylor's salary per film topped $1 million. "Liz and Dick" became the ultimate jet set couple, on a first name basis with millions who had never met them.

They were a prolific acting team, even if most of the movies aged no better than their marriages: "The VIPs" (1963), "The Sandpiper" (1965), "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1966), "The Taming of the Shrew" (1967), "The Comedians" (1967), "Dr. Faustus" (1967), "Boom!" (1968), "Under Milk Wood" (1971) and "Hammersmith Is Out" (1972).

Art most effectively imitated life in the adaptation of Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" - in which Taylor and Burton played mates who fought viciously and drank heavily. She took the best actress Oscar for her performance as the venomous Martha in "Virginia Woolf" and again stole the awards show, this time by not showing up at the ceremony. She refused to thank the academy upon learning of her victory and chastised voters for not honoring Burton.

Taylor and Burton divorced in 1974, married again in 1975 and divorced again in 1976.

"We fight a great deal," Burton once said, "and we watch the people around us who don't quite know how to behave during these storms. We don't fight when we are alone."

In 1982, Taylor and Burton appeared in a touring production of the Noel Coward play "Private Lives," in which they starred as a divorced couple who meet on their respective honeymoons. They remained close at the time of Burton's death, in 1984.

Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor was born in London on Feb. 27, 1932, the daughter of Francis Taylor, an art dealer, and the former Sara Sothern, an American stage actress. At age 3, with extensive ballet training already behind her, Taylor danced for British princesses Elizabeth (the future queen) and Margaret Rose at London's Hippodrome. At age 4, she was given a wild field horse that she learned to ride expertly.

At the onset of World War II, the Taylors came to the United States. Francis Taylor opened a gallery in Beverly Hills and, in 1942, his daughter made her screen debut with a bit part in the comedy "There's One Born Every Minute."

Her big break came soon thereafter. While serving as an air-raid warden with MGM producer Sam Marx, Taylor's father learned that the studio was struggling to find an English girl to play opposite Roddy McDowall in "Lassie Come Home." Taylor's screen test for the film won her both the part and a long-term contract. She grew up quickly after that.

Still in school at 16, she would dash from the classroom to the movie set where she played passionate love scenes with Robert Taylor in "Conspirator."

"I have the emotions of a child in the body of a woman," she once said. "I was rushed into womanhood for the movies. It caused me long moments of unhappiness and doubt."

Soon after her screen presence was established, she began a series of very public romances. Early loves included socialite Bill Pawley, home run slugger Ralph Kiner and football star Glenn Davis.

Then, a roll call of husbands:

- She married Conrad Hilton Jr., son of the hotel magnate, in May 1950 at age 18. The marriage ended in divorce that December.

- When she married British actor Michael Wilding in February 1952, he was 39 to her 19. They had two sons, Michael Jr. and Christopher Edward. That marriage lasted 4 years.

- She married cigar-chomping movie producer Michael Todd, also 20 years her senior, in 1957. They had a daughter, Elizabeth Francis. Todd was killed in a plane crash in 1958.

- The best man at the Taylor-Todd wedding was Fisher. He left his wife Debbie Reynolds to marry Taylor in 1959. She converted to Judaism before the wedding.

- Taylor and Fisher moved to London, where she was making "Cleopatra." She met Burton, who also was married. That union produced her fourth child, Maria.

- After her second marriage to Burton ended, she married John Warner, a former secretary of the Navy, in December 1976. Warner was elected a U.S. senator from Virginia in 1978. They divorced in 1982.

- In October 1991, she married Larry Fortensky, a truck driver and construction worker she met while both were undergoing treatment at the Betty Ford Center in 1988. He was 20 years her junior. The wedding, held at the ranch of Michael Jackson, was a media circus that included the din of helicopter blades, a journalist who parachuted to a spot near the couple and a gossip columnist as official scribe.

But in August 1995, she and Fortensky announced a trial separation; she filed for divorce six months later and the split became final in 1997.

"I was taught by my parents that if you fall in love, if you want to have a love affair, you get married," she once remarked. "I guess I'm very old-fashioned."

Her philanthropic interests included assistance for the Israeli War Victims Fund and the Variety Clubs International.

She received the Legion of Honor, France's most prestigious award, in 1987, for her efforts to support AIDS research. In May 2000, Queen Elizabeth II made Taylor a dame - the female equivalent of a knight - for her services to the entertainment industry and to charity.

In 1993, she won a lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute; in 1999, an institute survey of screen legends ranked her No. 7 among actresses.

During much of her later career, Taylor's waistline, various diets, diet books and tangled romances were the butt of jokes by Joan Rivers and others. John Belushi mocked her on "Saturday Night Live," dressing up in drag and choking on a piece of chicken.

The human body contains oils with which to lubricate the skin and hair. These oils are called sebum and are stored underneath the hair follicles. Pores do not contain oil storage and do not get clogged up, which results in acne. Hair follicles get clogged with oil and dead skin cells which travel along the hair follicle to the skin’s surface and form a sort of plug, according to the Mayo Clinic. When these follicles become infected, resulting in red spots with a white center, it’s called acne.

What Causes Acne

The American Academy of Dermatology suggests that hormonal imbalances can cause acne. When teenagers have raging hormones or women are beginning their period, their oil production increases. Bacteria lives on and in the human body. Some bacteria are good, carrying away the effects of the bad ones. The bad bacteria combines with the oils in the body, thickening and swelling, which, when it travels the hair follicle route, erupts on the surface of the skin as acne. Heredity could play a part in acne, but more studies are being done on that subject.

What Does Not Cause Acne

The Mayo Clinic says it’s safe to eat potato chips and french fries, because oils do not cause acne. Chocolate need not be pushed aside, nor sodas. That’s going to be a relief to many teens. Dirt and everyday grime does not affect acne, so scrubbing and scratching only aggravates the situation. Gentle washing with simple soap and water is the best skin care regime there is, says the Mayo Clinic.

A Few of Acne’s Effects

Both the American Academy of Dermatology and the Mayo Clinic report that popping zits can cause scarring. Acne alone causes depression and lack of self-esteem. Unfortunately, ours is a society in which youth and glowing perfection are the standard to which everyone tries to rise; knowing this, a person scarred with acne suffers untold self-esteem problems. Who knows, but this might cause more acne to appear?

For the most part, topical applications for acne include benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid or lactic acid as their active ingredient. These are bought over the counter and are beneficial for mild acne. Prescription medications work on vitamin A, which removes dead skin cells and keeps the follicle from becoming plugged. Prescription medications like these or oral birth control or antibiotics work to keep the body from overproducing oils that can cause clogging in conjunction with bacteria. These are the chemical choices available. Other choices include laser and light treatments, which tend to work on the deeper levels of skin, leaving the surface untouched. Dermabrasion and chemical peels can be used in combination with other methods of curing acne.

Working on the premise that a strong healthy body won’t get acne, it would seem that taking an immune system strengthener would be the first step. To that end, Echinacea or Goldenseal are both herbal immune boosters which kick out of the body the bad things bad bacteria can get up to, often following the destruction of the immune system following ingestion of chemical antibiotics. Moving on to external applications, Tea Tree Oil can be obtained from any pharmacy and is a good antibiotic and antiseptic. Once the time is up, simply rinse off by splashing the face with warm water and then laying a steamed washcloth on top of the skin for a few minutes.

1 ripe banana

1 tbsp honey

lemon or orange juice.

First mash up the banana. Once it’s turned into a paste-like consistency, mix in the honey and blend until distributed. Finally, stir in the orange or lemon juice and then apply to your face for 15 minutes. To remove this mask, use a cool washcloth or splash water over the skin.

Clay Face Mask For Anyone

If you want a generic clay face mask that will improve the condition of your skin, this is it. This mixture will keep for up to an entire month so make a large batch at a time and then store it in the fridge until you are ready to use it. Try and apply at least once each week.

1 ½ tsp green French clay

1 tsp kaolin clay

1 ½ tbsp aloe vera gel

1 tbsp rosewater

2 drops lavender oil

Begin by mixing the clays together first, then add in the remaining ingredients. Spread over your face and let sit for about 10 minutes or until dry and skin feels slightly tighter.

Carrot Face Mask For Oily Skin

If you’re looking for a good natural face mask, this one is the perfect fit.

2-3 large carrots

4 ½ tbsp honey

First, cook the carrots so that they are soft enough to mash. Once you’ve drained the water, mash them up and then mix with honey. Spread over your face and let sit for about 10 minutes.

Rinse the face mask off with cool water and then follow it up with a thin layer of moisturizing cream.

2011 men's hair trends

All fashion trends are cyclical, and in recent years have gradually modernised the looks of the 20th Century and planted them firmly in the 21st. Such a modernisation of past styles is especially true of men's hair trends in 2011: it's out with the new, and in with the old. Or at least an old hair style with a new twist.

Men's fringe hairstyle trend

The men's fringe is the dominant hair trend for gents in 2011. And while it was also on-trend in 2010, 2011 offers up three variations on the men's hair trend:

1. the well-groomed, swept fringe
2. the textured, wet fringe
3. the curly fringe

Straight fringe

Continuing on from last year's men's hair trends, the men's fringe remains a major feature of men's hair trends in 2010. But, naturally, this is a hair trend that has evolved. While the men's fringe in 2009 was all about close-to-eyebrow length, in 2010 we have more options.

How To Cut The Fringe

Thankfully, the men's fringe trend in 2010 comes in a variety of lengths, so you're going to be able to play with the look to suit your face shape. While you'll be looking to keep shorter back and sides (British grade 4-5), the way of truly making it your own is to play with the length of the fringe itself. No better example exists than the Bottega Veneta Men's Spring-Summer 2009 catwalk which provided two fringes in stark contrast to each other:

Of the two, the latter side swept fringe is the more preferential, with the cropped fringe looking a little too nondescript. If the side swept fringe does look like a hair style you might wear, be sure to check out Marni's menswear Fall(Autumn)/Winter 2008/2009 catwalk collection where it was a look sported by most of the models.

Personally, I'd recommend something far more current and cut your fringe with texture and at brow length as seen on Burberry Prorsum's Men's Spring/Summer 2009 catwalk (below).

How To Style The Fringe
Whether you take a straightening iron to your hair or enjoy naturally straight hair, the men's fringe trend in 2010 is all about texture. I'm not talking about afro-inducing curls akin to those spotted on Alexander McQueen's Fall(Autumn)/Winter 2008/2009 runway (those were horrible) but light, layered detail. And in giving us the best length, Burberry Prorsum also featured the best textured styling for the men's fringe:

This textured hair style, with its longer fringe, is the 2010 incarnation of the 'Caesar cut', named after the hair style Roman dictator perpetuus Julius Caesar who is frequently depicted wearing his hair in a similar fashion. For a similar reason, it's also become known as 'the Clooney Cut' after actor George Clooney. While cut to bring hair from the temples and crown towards the forehead, the overall effect depends largely on using a matte wax or pomade to create the rugged texture and is quite akin to something sported by men in the Regency era.

And if it's a rugged texture you're after, particularly if you have wavy or curly hair, then look no further than Gucci's Men's Fall (Autumn)/Winter 2008/2009 catwalk where the models oozed sex with a take on 2010's fringe hair style trend.

Back in 2008 when a fringe wasn't school boy straight it was only ever one other thing: messy - think a messed up rocker post groupie session and you're shan't be far off the mark. That style came in 2008 and then it went. But amongst 2011's men's hair styles are looks that move away from the genteel and, thus, the messy fringe returns in another form: curly hair. While cut curly all over, the trend for men's curly hair in 2011 is to wear it with length in the fringe, which should be the dominant focus of the hairstyle.

As for the exact length of this curly hair trend, it's whatever suits you best. Chaps whose curly hair permits length without the need for a lot of hair product may opt for something 1970's (the decade with the biggest impact on 2011 fashion trends) inspired, while those in need of more product may opt for a less voluminous take on the hair trend. Both of these styles are pictured, respectively, directly below and were seen on Gucci's S/S 2011 catwalk.

If neither of those curly hairstyles are suited to your mane then the shorter version, with its ability to be styled with much more hair product than the former two styles, may be an option.

The Slick Back

Though he's given his name to an incarnation of the fringe hair trend, actor George Clooney has been a larger influence of another of 2010's hair style trends for men: the slick back.

In being a part of 2010 hair trends the slick back drives home one major point: men's hair styles in 2010 are all about the classics. In fact the slick back may actually be a little too classic for most men, with its popularity in the likes of Ralph Lauren catalogues it actually conveys a real American style that will guarantee it success in the States but probably little outside.

How To Cut The Slick Back
If you're after the slick back look there's one important thing to first consider: is your hair wavy or straight. From there on in it's easy.

Guys with straight hair: stick to a longer cut on top. Guys with wavy hair: go for short hair on top, perhaps a few inches in length depending on the strength of your wave. The two models below, both from Jil Sander's Spring-Summer 2010 catwalk, best demonstrate the different cut lengths for the two hair types.

For both straight haired and wavy haired men: short on the sides.

And for those who have neither straight nor wavy hair? Consult your stylist. You're going to have a real time getting the slick back hair style with curly hair, and unless you're willing to dedicate vast amounts of time each morning to your hair you might want to seek a chemical curl relaxer.

How To Style The Slick Back
Looking at it, you already know it's not going to take a lot of effort to style the slick back (provided your hair is suitable, and cut appropriately). Using the right product, like good old-school Brylcreem if you're after a classic wet look, the real trick is to make sure that the side you choose to slick the hair back towards actually suits your face. Try both ways, and don't forget that your mirror doesn't show your true image.

The other major choice is whether to add a part or not. Clooney wears it with one, as did many a model on Moschino's Fall(Autumn)/Winter 2008/2009 catwalk, while the models at Jil Sander's collection launch (above) wore the look partless.

The Classic Part

Wearing the slick back hair trend partless might not be the way to go, however, given that the traditional part figures in so heavily into men's hair trends in 2010.

But while a part my seem simple enough, plenty of options still abound.

How To Cut The Classic Part
This one, I'm well and truly leaving alone. No, this is not a white flag of surrender. There are simply too many ways to cut a hair cut worthy of a part. See your stylist, but before you do so, here are some tips on the styling.

How To Style The Classic Part

There are so many options here, as you can apply a part to most any hair style. However, the classic part in 2010 is very much about traditional styling - the sort worn de rigueur by the likes of actor Cary Grant and The Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor; the 20th Century's ultimate trend setter. And it is from the Duke (middle and right, below) that we can see two classic stylings: the side sweep (right) and the slick back (middle).

Grant too wears the side sweep though, unlike the Duke of Windsor, this is no ordinary part but rather the scalp revealing kind that arguably hasn't been truly fashionable since Grant himself was setting the silver screen alight. You can also take your queues from another of 2010's men's hair trends, the fringe, and combine it with a part as seen on Roberto Cavalli's men's Fall (Autumn)/Winter 2008/2009 runway.

A word of warning, however: avoid the soft part we saw on Calvin Klein's Spring/Summer 2009 men's runway (below). It's far too effeminate, and doesn't cast a sleek nor stylish figure.

As with styling the slick back, the trick here is to find a part that suits your face shape. Though some will argue that the side you part your hair on reveals great details about your personality (it doesn't, some people just have too much time on their hands) the truth is that making the part look sexy really comes down to cohesion between your hair and facial structure.
