The gift of learning to use your registry items

When all the items seem to be checked off a New York couple's registry, what should a wedding guest who doesn't want to just give a check do?

Purchase a "Cooking 101 for Newlyweds" gift certificate.

New York City-based natural food chef and cooking instructor Gilda Muiero provides in-home cooking classes to teach newlyweds how to use their kitchen registry items.

The class costs $350 and is customized to the couple's culinary interest and skill level. It can cover a whole host of things from cooking for two to kitchen basics, including knife skills and keeping a well-stocked pantry.

It was at at a bridal shower in 2008 that Muiero got the idea for the newlyweds class.

"It all started when I was teaching a bridal shower how to cook and the maid of honor confessed that she had a Cuisinart brand new in the box from her wedding two years priod," Muiero said. "I had taught at many bridal showers and it was always the same thing --brides who were caught up in the moment at Williams-Sonoma that would buy things that they had no clue how to use."

Come winter, bridal store Priscilla of Boston is opening its first shop in Connecticut, at 289 Greenwich Avenue in the heart of downtown Greenwich, Conn. Between 10 and 12 employees are expected to work at the 6,058-square-foot store.

“In its decision to locate a new store along Greenwich Avenue, Priscilla of Boston is looking to service the needs of the high-end bridal clientele in Fairfield County that currently has limited options in the market," said New Street Realty Advisors' Matthew Gorman, who with fellow managing partner Joshua Gettler represented the bridal store in the lease transaction.

Priscilla of Boston, founded in 1945 with a shop in Boston, Mass., has 19 signature salons plus retail partnerships around the country.

Why leave wedding weather up to chance?

Brides and grooms may carefully plan every last detail of their wedding, but they sure can't predict the weather for the big day.

That's where BridalWeather.com comes in. Around since 2006, the Idaho-based service handles any kind of wedding weather forecasting in the United States as well as at popular honeymoon locations.

While most of the services are free, the company provides an e-book for a fee that helps brides and grooms plan long term.

“It even shows them how to use La Nina and El Nino outlooks to pick a wedding date!” the founder of BridalWeather.com, meteorologist Vin Crosby, told Wedding-Scoops.com.

While they’re not the only wedding weather forecasters around, Crosby said, “We have the exclusive Outdoor Wedding Weather Index and can produce one specifically for a wedding site on request.”

Paris Hilton and boyfriend Cy Waits were recently shopping for engagement rings at Jacob & Co at 48 East 57th Street, a source told People magazine.

The ring Hilton bought

A store spokesperson confirmed to Wedding-Scoops.com on Tuesday that the couple was “browsing” in the store and asked “to look at engagement rings in the VIP room.” Hilton reportedly only wants an engagement ring that is 24 carats.

In the end, the spokesperson said, Hilton purchased a $17,600 black PVD-plated 18-karat white gold set full-finger ring with 4.05 carats of diamonds.
