These escort cards were done in my Classic design style and in classic, black ink.

The bride requested the table numbers be placed on the front, done extra large, and centered beneath the names.

New York City Wedding Calligraphy - Navy Ink

Many brides have recently requested navy ink for their wedding invitation calligraphy such as this bride from New York City. She was an exceptional client in that she booked me nearly 7 months in advance, provided a complete guest list, and was responsive to questions. (Love that!)

I had never before worked with these wonderful and unique letterpressed invitations by Studio on Fire. This design is called Arrow Union Wedding. The bride discovered them at Martha Stewart Weddings. She felt my Napa Design Style complemented her chosen invitation design, and I agree completely.

First Wedding Anniversary Gift

A couple's first wedding anniversary is often celebrated with a paper related gift. I receive many enquiries to quote a price for hand lettering a couple's wedding vows, poems, and in the case above, the wedding homily or sermon. In the event that my schedule and/or the client's budget prevent the possibility of my lettering the piece completely by hand, it is nice to offer the option of my designing a piece using my font.

Although I do not physically put my nib to the paper using this option, it is still my own, custom, original lettering. My font is based on my Napa style calligraphy. There is considerable time involved designing the piece and kerning the lettering, resulting in a one-of-a-kind, custom piece.

This option is usually more affordable with a faster turn around time - especially for large pieces such as this 13" x 38" piece. A wife commissioned me to create this piece of their wedding homily in order for her to frame it and give to her husband for their first anniversary.

Vera Wang Embossed Wedding Invitations

I did the calligraphy for these wedding invitation envelopes in my Classic Design Style.
I enjoyed working with the bride and her mother. The bride was able to earn her wedding gown through her blogging efforts at David Tutera's "It's a Bride's Life."

The beautiful, embossed wedding invitation suite was designed by Vera Wang.

Calligraphy for Wedding Vows - Castle Ladyhawke

I had the pleasure of doing the calligraphy for a wonderful couple's wedding vows.

When a bride hires and meets with me six months in advance, I know she's pretty special. She purchased this red, leather journal in which she wanted me to letter her vows to her groom. She wanted to surprise him with the journal during the ceremony.

I did a title page for posterity.

I did the vows in a modified version of my Napa style script.

This lovely photo, as well as the first and last two photos were taken by the couple's photographer Terri Clark. The couple purchased the digital copyrights. The bride graciously gave me permission to use their images.

The groom was so surprised! He loved the journal. In fact, they contacted me after the wedding to see if I could add his vows to the journal. I did this page before adding the groom's vows on the following pages.

Every morning, I would begin my work day lettering a page of the groom's vows. Then I would set it aside to dry until the next morning.

I was a little sad when the project was complete.

The bride found this wonderful venue for the wedding - Castle Ladyhawke in North Carolina. I think it looks sooo cool!

Knowing they owned the copyrights, I added their names and wedding date to the image.

Calligraphy for Letterpress Wedding Invitation

I did the calligraphy for these letterpressed wedding invitations in my Napa Design Style. I loved this invitation designed by Jill Sowder of Westwood Paper. I think the textblock of beautiful letterforms is unique and stunning. The wedding was held at The American Club Resort's Whistling Straits.

Indianapolis Calligraphy - Chocolate and Aqua Wedding

The calligraphy for these wedding invitation envelopes was done in chocolate brown ink and in my Classic Design Style. The mother-of-the-bride was really excited about the calligraphy, which of course, endeared her to me! :)

The invitation suite was purchased from Jill Sowder of Westwood Paper.

The bride and her mom also purchased this framed print from me to give as a special gift to the minister officiating the wedding ceremony. I thought that was a lovely gesture.

Indianapolis Wedding Calligraphy: Navy Blue, Cream and Yellow

As promised in THIS previous post, here are some photos of the calligraphy done for Donald and Mallory's wedding reception.

The colors are a bit distorted in my photos. The lettering was done in a light, creamy yellow.

The beautiful wedding was planned by expert Darcie Kornmeyer of Circle City Planners.

The talented Jill Sowder of Westwood Paper designed the couple's monogram and handled all the stationery for the big event.

The escort cards, done in my Napa Design Style, not only directed guests to their tables, but guests were encouraged to write a note to the newlyweds and slip it into their escort envelope. I created a sign that directed the guests to drop their escort cards into a vase as they entered the ballroom. A great idea!

Indianapolis Wedding Calligraphy - Ritz Charles Chapel

This blue and gray wedding invitation suite was designed by Jackie Bilskie of Ten: Thirteen Design. It is always a pleasure working with Jackie!

Although lettering on coated, metallic envelopes can be a bit tricky, the results can be gorgeous.

I custom mixed a metallic, gunmetal gray ink and did the calligraphy in my Classic design style.

Indianapolis Wedding Calligraphy - Orange, Cream and Charcoal

These lovely invitations were done in black ink in a slightly modified version of my Classic design style.

The bride wanted an elegant but understated look. She requested I do the calligraphy a bit smaller than I would normally do. She was very happy with the results. (The mother of the bride told me the clerks at the post office liked the calligraphy too!) :)

I posted earlier about the calligraphy I did for this wedding, but I wanted to show you these beautiful images taken by Brooke Images. Courtney and Josh's wedding was featured earlier this month on the Style Me Pretty blog. I think the fleur de lis card holders are beautiful.

The fleur de lis was a design element used in the wedding invitations, and I love that the theme was carried over to the reception.

Calligraphy for Wedding at Beck Chapel at Indiana University

As a Purdue alum, it pains me every time I do calligraphy for a wedding at Beck Chapel on the campus of Indiana University. I'm just kidding. Beck Chapel is beautiful and would make a wonderful venue for a small, intimate wedding ceremony. In fact, the bride and her mother were a real pleasure to work with and were excellent ambassadors for I.U. :)

The calligraphy is not one of my typical design styles but was done to match the script on the invitations.

French Quote for A Wedding Gift

This quote was done for a client to give as a gift for a friend's wedding. The lettering in French was done in my Whimsical Design Style. I did a custom lettering style for the English translation and the attribution. The finished piece is approximately 26" x 13".

I designed a custom flourish. for the bottom left corner and.....

...a companion flourish, a bit smaller for the upper right corner.

Aspen Mountain Wedding Deck Colorado Calligraphy

From beginning to end, these wedding invitations were custom made. The couple's ceremony will take place at the beautiful Little Nell Aspen Mountain Wedding Deck in Aspen, Colorado. Ghega Scolari of Cartabella Shop designed the invitation.

Ghega designed the logo which incorporates the initials of the couple and an aspen leaf - giving the logo a cattle brand feel - a nod to the groom who is from Texas. Ghega also hand cut each leather tie from a large deer skin.

The self-mailer style invitations will be slipped into clear, protective sleeves before the postage is added.

Guests will untie and unfold the invitation as they would a special gift.

Above is the entire wedding invitation suite.

The calligraphy was custom designed and not one of my regular design styles. I did the lettering before the invitations were folded. The buckskin colored ink worked perfectly with the leather tie.

Guests that were also invited to the rehearsal dinner received a different invitation, so it was important to keep the guest lists organized.

In addition to a mountain themed wedding, these invitations would work well for any country or western themed wedding.
