SANDALS Royal Bahamian Undergoing $20 million Improvements to its guest rooms as it prepares for 2012.

Speaking about the improvement going on at the Sandals Resort located on Cable, it’s General Manage Patrick Drake, said the resort was looking forward to the opening of its refurbished 60-year-old building and further increasing its foothold on the all-inclusive market in the region.

“Everybody is going after a diminishing market,” he said. “If you’re not at the top of the stream, obviously there is no future at the bottom. At the top of the market is still where it’s at, and if you’re going to give that sort of commitment then you have to have a product to back it up.”

And Sandals Royal Bahamian is “backing it up” as the resort is hosting more than 1,000 travel agents from across the US and Canada, to a free familiarization trip to the resort.

A bet that is already paying off according to Mr. Drake, as agents who have been a part of the earlier visits are already making booking for their clients.

Sandals Royal Bahamian is also expected to benefit from the increased airlift that are now coming to the Bahamas. “With airlift coming in from so many destinations we are seeing quite a nice international mix,” said Mr Drake.

Gay Concerns Rise Over Bahamas Wedding Competition Rules

Gay concerns with the Bahamas wedding promotion, Bahamas 16 Islands Invitation has led to the withdrawal of one of the judges, and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism having to clarify competition rules.

The concern resulted from the fact that in the Bahamas, Gays are not allowed to enter into civil union while in the U.K, heterosexual couples are not allowed to enter into civil partnerships.

However, the Bahamas wedding promotion is open to “residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 and over, who are legally entitled to enter into marital/civil partnership in the UK and in The Bahamas”.

Prompting Stephen Gray of Pink News, Europe’s largest Gay news service to say that in this case “no one would be eligible.”

The confusion has led to one of the judges and Marketing Director for Goldsmiths Jewelers, one of the promotion sponsors’ withdrawing from the competition. As the company is indicating that it did not want “to be seen to endorse an event which excluded the gay community.”

The Bahamas Tourist Office has since accepted responsibility for the error and has provided clarification that the clause had been intended to refer to a “ non-religious marriage ceremony, not a civil partnership” as stated in the rules.

A clause in the terms and conditions also stated that “it is not Bahamas Government policy to provide marriage licenses for same sex couples and therefore
same sex marriages cannot be performed.”

The Bahamas 16 Islands Invitation promotion will give 16 brides the opportunity to marry in 16 theme weddings on 16 different islands on May 16, 2012.

Getting Married In The Bahamas - What Documents Do I Need For A Wedding In The Bahamas?

If your planning on getting married in the Bahamas then you need to ensure that you have the necessary documents that would allow you to have your wedding in the Bahamas.
So here is a wedding in the Bahamas document checklist for you.
1. You Need A Passport
The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative which became effective October 1, 2007, requires that all U.S. citizens traveling outside of the United States must have a passport in order to re-enter the country. So the first thing would need to do is get a passport if you do not already have one.
And if you have a passport then you need to check that it has been renewed as you are required to renew your passport every ten years.
Once your passport is in order then you are able to not only travel but use it as an official form of identification as your passport would have most of the relevant information about you including a photography, finger print, age, gender, status and nationality.
2. Documents that prove You Qualify To Be Married In The Bahamas
Only persons of the opposite sex who are at least age 18, single (never been married), divorced or widowed can be legally married in the Bahamas. So you must be able to prove your status in order to get a marriage license in the Bahamas
If you are single then you must declare you singleness in an affidavit of single-hood before a person authorized to administer oaths like a notary public or justice of the peace.
If you are divorced then you must provide the original final decree, or a certified copy of your divorce.
And if you are widowed then you must provide the original death certificate, or a certified copy.
So getting married in the Bahamas is really simple. All you need is a passport and documents to prove your marital status and you can have your wedding in the Bahamas.

Bahamas Wedding Requirements – You Need A Certified Bahamas Marriage Officer

Certified Bahamas Marriage Officer

One of the Bahamas wedding requirements is that all weddings in the Bahamas must be performed by a licensed Bahamas Marriage Officer.

This is a special designation given to a selected group of individual who have met the prescribed qualifications for the appointment as set out by the Bahamas Government through it's Registrar General Office.

And it is these Licensed Marriage Officers that are empowered to performs wedding in the Bahamas. And they can only perform a wedding for which a marriage license has been issue.

So to get married in the Bahamas and have your wedding in the Bahamas legal, you really need two things:

A licensed Marriage Officer and
A Marriage License

And to get a marriage license you must:

Be in the Bahamas at least 24 hours before applying
At least 18 years of age
Single (never married as certified by an affidavit ) , divorced or widowed.

Your marriage license is available to you the day after your application as long as you are not over age 40 and still single. If you are then the Registrar General Office requires a waiting period of two weeks to verify your status.

With Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem joining a long line of celebrities who have had their secret wedding in the Bahamas.

When it come to destination wedding in the Bahamas you have your choice of being as public or private as desired. And this couple choose the private route. Getting married at the beginning of July in a private house with the ceremony witnessed by only family members.

Mother of The Bride - What You Can Expect Your Role To Be As Mother of The Bride

This morning I was browsing and came across this attention grabbing headline on MSN.com Today - “Clinton juggles diplomacy, planning daughter’s wedding - Secretary of state says both roles ‘serious’, ‘stressful.’

The words ‘serious’ and ‘stressful’ really stood out to me but when I finally saw it all in context it took on a whole different meaning. Here is the context - Clinton agreed that both are "serious, important and stressful" referring to her roles as Secretary of State and mother of the bride.

While as a mother you may never be Secretary of State the likelihood of you being mother of the bride is quit real. So I felt it was important to share with you what your role likely will be during this very happy time for your family. As the role of the mother of the bride has changed significantly over the years.

It appears that Mrs. Clinton may be playing the traditional role of mother of the bride where the mother of the bride do most of the wedding planning as she says -"Luckily we have e-mail now. I can communicate and people can send me pictures of flower arrangements or other kinds of decisions."
And if you ever get to participate in this way, its one way of you realizing your own unrealized dreams of a fairytale wedding.

Unfortunately, these days, very few mothers are afforded this opportunity as your daughter will probably be the one doing the planning and her dream wedding may be very different from yours.
But do not despair here is what you can do to ensure that you enjoy the experience almost as much as she does:-

Be supportive by being a good listener and sounding board when called upon.
Offer to help your daughter find that wedding dress of her dreams and assist with other shopping.
Voluntary to help with selecting a location for the wedding and reception (can you say Bahamas). And the honeymoon planning (... Bahamas)
Organize a dinner event for both families to get to know each other better.
Get together with the mother of the groom if possible and shop for the dresses you will wear to the wedding.
Be sure and discuss a budget for the wedding with your daughter and fiancé as soon as possible, so that they are clear on you and your family contribution towards the wedding.
Assist with preparing the guest list for your side of the family.
Assist with making hotel accommodations for expected guest.
Help by sharing the couple’s registry with all invited guest.
Serve as chief hostess and protocol officer at all wedding events. Make it your role to ensure that your guests are as comfortable as possible and that all of their concerns are addressed.
Simply be available to your daughter to perform any role that she may call upon you to do.
