You may or may not know this, but Wee-cycle Mart Kids sales are organized completely by a mother daughter team and run on volunteers! The sales were started when I (Blaney) was laid off from my 6 figure corporate job, 10 weeks before my daughter was to be born....and I didn't have a clue what to do!

Thus, my mission became to help other moms like me, not only SAVE $$$ on things they needed for their children but to make a little GREEN for the family as well. Since the sales are not really a year round job, I had to find other means to provide income as a single mom of two children. Luckily, I have been a Stampin' UP! demontrator for over 11 years and was teaching rubber stamping and scrapbooking classes in my home studio a couple times a month to fill in the gaps, but it was just not enough to keep up with the bills.

Don't wait to start tagging for our fall/winter sales! Ask any of our successful consignors, the sooner you start tagging, the items you'll have at the sale, the BIGGER your commission check!

There is no minimum or maximum number of items you can bring! We have had consignors bring 7 pieces of baby equipment and others bring over 1000 including clothing, toys, games, books, party and scrapbooking supplies!

Tips for selling SHOES at Wee-cycle Mart

Shoes are a VERY big seller at our Wee-cycle Mart sales!

Here are a few tips to selling shoes at the sales:

Shoes

Please only bring your like-new shoes! Due to the way we display our shoes on racks and NOT in bins, we prefer that you use ZIP TIES (cable ties) or string to TIE the shoes together so that they can sit side by side on the shelf. This will keep them from being separated. Then pin the tag through the tie or laces. Tap and dance shoes are very desirable.

What is considered a BOUTIQUE BRAND at Wee-cycle Mart?

Many of you may not have realized that at all Wee-cycle Mart sales there is a rack just for BOUTIQUE BRANDS. We separate the Boutique Brands from the rest as many moms do not know what is and isn't considered Boutique and can be quite surprised by the higher price tag on Boutique Items when they are mixed in with the rest of the items.

This rack is clearly marked and contains all sizes and both girls and boys up to Children's size 14. The larger size children's Boutique and those Brand Names for Juniors are still located in those sections on the main floor.

Where the actual BOUTIQUE RACK is located at each sale can differ on floor plan layout. It is usually closer to the Check-Out line but not always. Be sure to look for it as there are great savings on otherwise out of budget items.

You WILL NOT find Gymboree, Lands End, Tommy Hilfiger etc on there. Those are definately upper end clothes but not considered Boutique.

Here is a list that we will be using to place items on the BOUTIQUE rack.

Consignors, it would help greatly if you can choose the CATAGORY of BOUTIQUE or write it in the description in BOLD when you are tagging so the volunteers can place your Boutique Items on the correct rack.

Shoppers, you will know that items on the Boutique Rack are priced accordingly as they have a much higher original retail price.

You will find both NEW and Gently Used Clothing on the BOUTIQUE RACK, Be sure to look for it at every Wee-cycle Mart Sale! Happy Saving!

Volunteer Info - Get to SHOP first BEFORE everyone else!!!!!

Earn extra commission and pre-sale privileges when you volunteer at Wee-cycle Mart!

Our Volunteers get to shop first to get the best selection because without our great volunteers, we would be unable to coordinate such an exciting event! Thank you for taking the time to consider helping us with our sale! Volunteering is fun and you'll meet other great moms just like you!

All 1 shift volunteers get to shop on Thursday night at 5:30pm. (1 1/2 hours before New Moms and Consignors)

All 2 shift volunteers get:

to shop on Thursday night at 5pm. (2 hours before - you will practically have the sale to yourself!)

to shop Sunday 50% off day at 9am - 1 hour before we open the doors to the public!!!!

Volunteers are asked to provide at least 4 hours of their time.

As a volunteer you would be assisting us in the following areas:

set up/taking down of racks/shelving, (we really need husbands to help with this!)

check-in items

working the door (taking food donations and admission fee)

organize & help customers during the sale

check out customers - (de-tagging, no handling money)

and other responsibilities as needed.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CONSIGNOR TO VOLUNTEER! However, we do ask that if you are NOT consigning with us that you complete your volunteer SHIFT anytime Monday - Thursday BEFORE you shop the PRE-SALE or do you shift immediately AFTER shopping that night. We have had issues with moms signing up to volunteer, shopping the pre-sale and NOT showing up to work their shift and this puts us in a VERY BAD place as we come up short handed, lines get long and people get angry with us for not having enough volunteers when we thought we had it covered. Thank you for your understanding.

To sign up as a volunteer, please REGISTER and you will have the option to schedule your preferred shift online. You will not have to register as a consignor if you do not want to.

Don't forget that husbands can sign up to help too. We have several volunteer opportunities for MEN and we are in need of filling those volunteer slots. Duties may include set up of racks, security, and other duties as needed! Work a shift with your husband or send him in your place, either way YOU still get the extra commission for him volunteering!

Other Volunteer Benefits...

Consignors who also volunteer for ONE SHIFT, receive 55% on your consigned items and have your registration fee of $5 refunded to you after the sale. (Quick Drop Consignors get 35%)

Consignors who also volunteer for TWO SHIFTS, receive , 60% on your consigned items and have your registration fee of $5 refunded to you after the sale. (Quick Drop Consignors get 40%)

The maximum number of volunteer shifts paid on is 2. You may sign up for more but you will only receive a Pre-sale Pass for each additional shift. Of course if you've been to our sales before you know why getting a Pre-Sale pass is soooo worth it!!! You may earn additional commissions by referring friends to consign with us! You get 2% more for each friend that consigns at least 20 items with us!

Think you don't have time to tag for our Wee-cycle Mart Children's Consignment Spring/Summer 2011 sales! Well, we have the answer!

Participate in our QUICK DROP PROGRAM We will even pick it up from you if needed! This is a great option for those of you that usually donate all your stuff as now you'll still be able to earn some money without doing any of the work!

Here is how it works!

Consignment Option #2 (Quick Drop Option): Drop offs are being accepted NOW and stop 2 weeks before the start of each sale. Please don't wait til last minute!!!

You drop off your items to us & we do the rest! We even provide the Hangers, Pins and Cardstock!!!

Four Drop off locations - Westminster, Pasadena, Bel Air & Middle River (White Marsh)

Or you can contact us for Pick-Up! ($15 flat fee per pickup taken out of commissions)

Refer friends to consign with us (min. of 20 items each) and earn up to 80% commission! See referral program above.

All items must be current season, freshly laundered, no stains, no pet hair or smoke/musty smell. Should you give us anything that is UNACCEPTALBE it will be DONATED and NOT RETURNED. Please go through your things prior to drop-off/pick-up. We only want your BEST STUFF! Please be sure batteries are INCLUDED in all items that need batteries. We will deduct the price of batteries should WE need to provide them.

All Quick Drop Consignors MUST participate in 50% off Day and Donate unsold items. Quick Drop only: We CAN transfer your unsold items to the next sale of same season for a storage/transfer fee of $15 per sale + the normal $5 registration fee (taken out of commissions at end). At the end of the season or sale, all unsold items will be donated. No Exceptions.

Tips for getting a BIG CHECK at Wee-cycle Mart Children's Consignment Sales!

Ok, the holidays are behind us and if you are like me (and my children) you have toys, clothes and "stuff" bursting out the house or maybe still under the tree! Well, it's time to clean out and cash in at Wee-cycle Mart Children's Consignment Sales! One of the best feelings is knowing that you can get good money for items your kids have outgrown or no longer play with! REALLY! Of course, you'll still have plenty of things to donate to family or charity should you so desire. But why not do both!

We paid out the highest commissions ever at our FALL/WINTER 2010 season (many checks OVER $1000, yes you read that correct!) and we expect the trend to keep on going as more moms are shopping consignment then ever before!

Here's a few tips on how YOU can get a check you'll be excited about!

Start tagging early! Do not wait to the last minute. Our highest sellers also usually have the MOST items entered into the sale! Register now!
Plan on volunteering at least ONE four hour shift. There are over 7 days and 75 time slots to choose from so we are sure there is ONE you should be able to do. Volunteering is important for many reason.
1. You get the $5 Registration fee refunded in your check!
2. You get extra commission in your check!
3. You will learn and appreciate what it takes to put on an event like this.
4. You get to see YOUR stuff going out the door - totally a "rush"!
5. You will make new friends!
6. You will get 4 hours with the kids!
7. It's FUN Our highest check earners are also our best volunteers!
Price with the mindset -what would I pay for this at the sale?" "Don't get attached to your items or you'll end up overpricing. You don't need to underprice unless you really want it gone FAST. The proven rule of thumb is 1/3 of CURRENT retail. So if you paid $10 for it mark it $3. If you paid $4 for it, you can't bring it as our lowerst price is $2 or you can group things together to make a $4 set. The exception might be items with tags still on, you might be able to just under 50% retail. Also, larger items like outdoor toys, ride-ons, etc, can go a little higher. Again, think "what would I pay for this item?"
Definately participate in 50% off Day Sunday. Even if you are transferring to another sale, it still makes sense to get as much money as you can at EACH sale. What we have found is that if the items did not sell on Thursday, Friday or Saturday at FULL PRICE, then there is most likely something wrong with the item that we missed. It could be a stain, missing button, or just overpriced. By participating in 50% Day you up the chances of the item being sold as is. If it still doesn't sale and you are picking up, then you can fix the issue or change the price for the next sale.
Earn referral fees!We have a very easy program for you to earn up to 100% commission and our highest earners are the ones that tell everyone about the sale! There is even a sample email on our webite that you can send to your friends to tell them about consigning. And don't forget about Facebook and Twitter, you can get referrals from friends of friends that you don't even know! By referring NEW consignors to us (and believe me there are plenty of moms that are still not familiar with us!), you earn more commission! Check out the details now!
Make sure your items are of good quality! Time and time again, we look at the items left over at the end of the dale and as hard as we check items at drop-off and over and over again during the sale, we still see items that are less perfect and should not have been taking up room on the racks. It's very important to check for stains, missing buttons/snaps, fading and pilling. These seem they are the biggest issues. But also, age of item. Is it outdated? Does it look like grandma might have worem it....unless it's an heirloom piece, you probably should not waste your time tagging it. A big one is GYMBOREE...you know its old when the colors are bright block colors from the 90's. Even though it's a great name, it probably isn't going to see if it's really outdated style.
When tagging, start with your biggest and best items FIRST. Toys are HOT and we always sell out of good toys, baby equipment, etc. When tagging your clothing start again with you best name brand items and New with Tags. Save your socks and onesies for last. You will have lots of competition in the smaller size clothing for girls especially, so price accordingly. Be careful when tagging Target/Walmart brands. Yes, they do sell, but you will need to sell in sets as they have VERY LOW RETAIL and do not wash as well (if they are shrunk or faded, please do not tag). Feel free to BAG these items in groups for easier tagging instead of putting on hangers. Be descriptive on the tag when you bag so shoppers don't need to "tear" the bag apart to check out the contents.

Wee-cycle Mart not just for WEE-ones!

So many shoppers are surprised to find that the Wee-cycle Mart Children's Consignment sales are not just for babies and toddlers as one might think. Unlike a consignment shop, you will find sizes for both boys and girls up to children's size 20 as well as entire racks of JUNIOR sizes 0-15. Of course,naturally, there is more Junior girls stuff than boys. But you will find brand names like Hollister, Aeropostale, Old Navy, Gap, just to name a few. There is also great buys on clothes with the tags still on. The JUNIOR racks are a great place for young moms to shop too. Wee-cycle Mart has a try-on cabana so that you can be sure your bargains fit when you get home!

Also for the older children and teens, are sports equipment, basketball games, Playstation, XBox and Wii games and other games and book.

Be sure to bring your older children out this weekend Oct 22nd - 24th to the Anne Arundel County Wee-cycle Mart at the Ft. Meade Pavilion located off Rt. 175 and Llewelyn Ave in Odenton/Ft. Meade. A Big Thank you to all the consignors, shoppers and vendors that joined us for our Spring/Summer sales! I can't believe how fast the time went by! We are now working on the Fall/Winter 2010 sales!

We have posted the dates of the FOUR Fall/Winter Wee-cycle Mart sales on our website even though we do not have confirmed contracts for some of the locations. Please be a patient. Retail spaces will not confirm contract til about 4 weeks out as they are always trying to rent it long-term. Check the website in a few weeks, watch for an email, check our facebook page or twitter as we will be posting as the contracts are confirmed!

In the meantime, start sorting your fall/winter stuff! This includes fall/winter clothing, baby equipment, all types of toys but also don't forget Halloween costumes, outdoor snow stuff like ice skates, snow boards, skiis, etc. Tagging system will be open soon!

‘CPSC 2.0’ Launches Product Safety Agency into Social Media
Consumers to Be Informed of Important Safety Issues Faster and More Frequently

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In keeping with its commitment to protect the lives of children and families, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is launching “CPSC 2.0,” a comprehensive social networking initiative that will make lifesaving and other safety information more accessible to consumers. Utilizing a variety of technologies and social media sites, CPSC will rapidly expand its reach to millions of consumers.

“Through social media, CPSC can directly reach millions of the moms, dads and others who need our safety information the most,” said CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum.

Today’s launch coincides with CPSC’s Furniture and TV Tip-over Education Campaign. By educating parents and caregivers about the dangers of unstable furniture through dramatic video, blogging and podcasting, CPSC hopes to raise the public’s awareness of tip-over dangers in the home.

Future CPSC 2.0 content will address other safety issues in and around the home in engaging, consumer-friendly ways.

Chairman Tenenbaum added, “Safety can often be achieved through education, and we plan to use every available technology to keep Americans informed.”

Consumers can find CPSC on its “OnSafety” blog, which has messages, articles, videos, podcasts and other information. The site also has a ‘Recall Widget’ tool that anyone can easily add to their Web site. CPSC will also have an official presence on a YouTube channel, a Twitter page, and a FlickR page.
