<p><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="http://www.expressionsofspirit.com/yoga/eight-limbs.htm" target="_blank">Dharana means </a>&#8220;immovable concentration of the mind&#8221;. The essential idea is to hold the concentration or focus of attention in one direction.  &#8220;When the body has been tempered by asanas, when the mind has been refined by the fire of pranayama and when the senses have been brought under control by pratyahara, the sadhaka (seeker) reaches the sixth stage, dharana. Here he is concentrated wholly on a single point or on a task in which he is completely engrossed. The mind has to be stilled in order to achieve this state of complete absorption.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium;">In dharana we create the conditions for the mind to focus its attention in one direction instead of going out in many different directions. Deep contemplation and reflection can create the right conditions, and the focus on this one point that we have chosen becomes more intense. We encourage one particular activity of the mind and, the more intense it becomes, the more the other activities of the mind fall away.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium;"> The objective in dharana is to steady the mind by focusing its attention upon some stable entity.<span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span>The particular object selected has nothing to do with the general</span> <span style="font-size: medium;">purpose, which is to stop the mind from wandering -through memories, dreams, or reflective thought-by deliberately holding it single-mindedly upon some apparently static object. B.K.S. Iyengar states that the objective is to achieve the mental state where the mind, intellect, and ego are &#8220;all restrained and all these faculties are offered to the Lord for His use and in His service. Here there is no feeling of &#8216;I&#8217; and &#8216;mine&#8217;.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium;">When the mind has become purified by yoga practices, it becomes able to focus efficiently on one subject or point of experience. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: center;">Ok, so I didn&#8217;t stop the juicyness after all&#8230;<br />
But in my mind I now know as soon as I am ready to eat something I will.<br />
This is not out of obsession &#8211; it is about what feels right.<br />
Today I was teaching and out and about in the sun with friends then more teaching&#8230;<br />
So why force myself to go and find something to eat when all I want is juice (namely watermelon juice!!!)<br />
So I will eat but probably Tuesday evening (as I have a colonic booked to mark the end of my feast).<br />
I am also expecting a delivery of some new fun superfoods this week to play with in my adventure into REGENERATION&#8230;<br />
This is the 3rd step towards my intention.<br />
It is just one week to my 28th Birthday.<br />
The full moon also.<br />
I feel like this has been one of the most positive and interesting cleanses I have ever done.<br />
I am so lucky to have been surrounded by so many beautiful and inspiring women.<br />

<p><strong>Circadian rhythms</strong> are physical, mental and behavioral changes that follow a roughly 24-hour cycle, responding <em>primarily </em>to light and darkness in an organism’s environment. They are found in most living things, including animals, plants and many tiny microbes.<br />
<strong>Circadian rhythms</strong> are not the same as your biological clock but they are related. <strong>Biological clocks drive our circadian rhythms.</strong> The biological clocks that control circadian rhythms are groupings of interacting molecules in cells throughout the body. <strong>A “master clock” in the brain coordinates all the body clocks</strong> so that they are in synch. The “master clock” that controls circadian rhythms consists of a group of nerve cells in the brain called the <strong>suprachiasmatic nucleus</strong>, or SCN. The SCN contains about 20,000 nerve cells and is located in the hypothalamus, an area of the brain just above where the optic nerves from the eyes cross.</p>
<p>Circadian rhythms are produced by natural factors within the body, but they are also affected by signals from the environment. <strong>Light is the main cue influencing circadian rhythms, turning on or turning off genes that control an organism’s internal clocks. Circadian rhythms can change sleep-wake cycles, hormone release, body temperature and other important bodily functions.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Circadian rhythms are important in determining human sleep patterns</strong>. The body’s master clock, or SCN, controls the production of melatonin, a hormone that makes you sleepy. Since it is located just above the optic nerves, which relay information from the eyes to the brain, the SCN receives information about incoming light. When there is less light—like at night—the SCN tells the brain to make more melatonin so you get drowsy and therefore, when it is light &#8211; it is time to wake up!</p>
<p>Circadian rhythms have been linked to various sleep disorders, such as insomnia and disrupted sleep-wake cycles. Abnormal circadian rhythms have also been associated with depression, bipolar disorder and seasonal affective disorder.</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #262626; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 17px;">&#8230;So all of that said, I truly believe connecting to natural circadian rhythms is a way to master super hero health! This is something I am currently working with and can testify that getting up with the sun feels better every day. It is just the going to bed early that I am working on. I have identified the problem during my juice feast and am even more excited about this new concept in my lifestyle!</p>

Today I feel like this is already getting to be like the blissful juice feasts I remember.<br />
I flew to BYS this morning and although my practice is not easy (still achey) I can see how in one day things are so different.<br />
I can also see that achey-ness is for a reason and is there to teach you something.<br />
One thing I am really learning this time is about how your mind tells you to do something and how it can often over ride our bodies true desires.<br />
For example: I am not eating so instead I can observe the precise moments I would choose to eat and why.<br />
During this feast I can stop and look and, do the thing I am avoiding or think about the the thing *I* don&#8217;t want to think about!!!<br />
There&#8217;s no easy was of explaining this feeling &#8211; you just gotta do it!<br />
So&#8230;</p>

Last night I had terrible nights sleep with an achey lower back and horrendous dreams&#8230;<br />
Today I had a couple of moments of the dull achey headache but I think a lot of that had to do with being down in a basement all day.<br />
Tomorrow I MUST GET OUT!<br />
Right now I feel good, inspired, excited, motivated&#8230;<br />
(&#8230;plus a little swamped by my work load but hey, it is *so* worth the effort &#8211; there are some flippin&#8217; fantastic treats ahead!).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I&#8217;ve heard a lot of folks are finding it really hard &#8211; and it is &#8211; it is never the same and it is never easy BUT there are some fun parts and the other side of this will be so magical so stick at it if you can!<br />
At the end of the day, we all have to change our minds about how we approach any kind of change, even just a short term thing like this.<br />
Juice feasts require a lot of energy on the inside, it&#8217;s a bit like yoga in that you simply *have* to look at stuff you don&#8217;t want to.<br />
Physically, emotionally and spiritually.<br />
It won&#8217;t allow you to ignore it any more.<br />
So, change can be a good thing if you allow it to be, but it takes selfishness.<br />
Time alone, excess energy for yourself and conscious decisions based on number 1 (i.e. YOU!).</p>

And oh boy, was my Brain on! </p></div>

Candle gazing meditation, intentions setting, TONS of personal insights, laughs and of course juice!<br />

More juice (see below) &amp; herbal teas<br />
&#8230;&amp; a dose of good bacteria (I use Bio-Kult) before bed at home<br />
&#8230; topped off with an early night I think.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">These pics show a wee bit of what today was like but *nothing* can depict the feeling of magic inside that is coming with this new start for my body&#8230;<br />
&#8230;&amp; the joy of being with a bunch of fab girls all ready to get juicy and bow down to their awesomeness!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Today I woke with a headache and then again another headache later but generally feel rather buzzing and like this is only going to get easier!</p>
