April 23rd marked the first night of Passover, the Jewish holiday commemorating the Israelites' exodus from Egypt. In their rush to flee the Pharoah, the Israelites did not have time to let their bread to rise. So, for eight days, Passover observers are forbidden from eating anything containing leavening. Thus, the primary food associated with Passover is matzoh, or unleavened bread.

WSUI student producer Rebecca Sheir made the exodus from New York City to Iowa City in 2003. Gearing up to celebrate her second Passover in the Heartland, in this essay she kibitzes about danger, intrigue, and one impossible mission.
