This podcast of Weekend Iowa sounds fairly similar to its original broadcast version because the program includes some local stories that will probably interest you despite their actual "expiry date."

In the first segment, our engineer and pioneer podcaster John Bollwitt spends a sleepless night at the premiere of the final Star Wars episode, talking to fans and moviegoers. Bollwitt had support from our freshly graduated UI Journalism and Political Science alum Paul Flahive.

Then WSUI's Julie Englander interviews Charlotte Westerhaus, Director of the University of Iowa Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Westerhaus is taking a new position as the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion.

Next, Producer Ben Kieffer speaks with a University of Iowa linguist who explores the latest college slang with the help of her students.

And finally, host Gayane Torosyan chats about music with fellow journalists David Pedersen and Jeff Schmidt who also happen to be the founding members of The 100s http://www.the100s.com/ , an eastern-Iowa-based roots-rock-country-folk band.
The topics range from an innovative play area at an Iowa City elementary school to a common athletic injury. At the end, student reporter Paul Flahive inquires a few of his graduating classmates about their future plans. This year the University of Iowa undergraduate commencement ceremonies took place on May 14 2005, the same day this program originally broadcast on WSUI. In their rush to flee the Pharoah, the Israelites did not have time to let their bread to rise. So, for eight days, Passover observers are forbidden from eating anything containing leavening. Thus, the primary food associated with Passover is matzoh, or unleavened bread.
