According to a dating survey, 70% of Singaporean women won't agree to date a man shorter than them. But 14% have said they don’t mind a shorter date, and another 16% who are sitting on the fence. So what makes some women say yes to a shorter date?

Just watched this 3 videos on razorTV.
Many women would prefer to date a taller man.
Personally, I also would also prefer to date a taller guy ( at least 1.8m and above )
I guess it's the sense of security? Eg. having a taller boyfriend you feel more protected.
I would prefer at least 15-20cm taller than me actually! So that when I wear heels, I won't be taller than my partner.
As for Singaporean guys, I think that if you're around 1.75m you're considered tall already.
But I think what matter most is the character and personality.

Yesterday, I met Wilson for dinner when he had his nights off! (:
He just looks so good in his uniform.. Not forgetting his taller than me because his army boots gives him extra height! Taller than me by a lot!!!! I think when I'm out with him people would think I'm really short.. (especially when I'm wearing flats.) hmmph!

Botanic Gardens

Went to Botanic Gardens with Wilson a few months back, 15 July 2011. We headed over to Botanic Gardens right after our brunch at SPRUCE, the weather was breezy. (:

Bandstand
A bandstand was erected in the early 1860s as a focal point of the original landscape design of Singapore Botanic Gardens. The present octagonal structure was built in 1930 and staged early evening performances by military bands for many years. Though no longer used for music, the Bandstand continues to be one of the best-known features of the Gardens.

Swiss Ball Fountain

Swiss Ball Fountain was donated by the Swiss Community in Singapore in 1991 to celebrate the 700th Anniversary of the Swiss Confederation.

The granite ball, which took Swiss sculptor Mr Ueli Fausch three months to hand sculpt, measures 80 cm in diameter and weighs 700 kg. It fits perfectly into a 3-tonne basal block. Both were made from granite from Switzerland.

The ball is kept "afloat" by strong water pressure directed through the basal block.

The constant spinning of the ball represents people striving for excellence.

There were quite a few people having picnics over there at the empty grass!! Good for friends/family/couples to hang out and spend time there.

Tembusu Tree
Tembusus are very hardy trees which can thrive and bloom even under adverse conditions. A native tree of secondary forest, it is well adapted to grow on poor soils in open areas. A long-lived tree, it can live up to 150 to 200 years. It can reach a height of about 25 metres. Its wood is very hard and resistant to rot and termites. It can be used for making bridges, rafts, chopping boards, furniture, and house building.
The grand old Tembusu tree at Lawn E probably predates the Gardens, having established itself naturally on the wasteland left by gambir planting before the site was acquired by the Botanic Gardens. This tree has been identified as a heritage tree and is featured on the Singapore $5 currency note and in postage stamps.

When we were viewing and taking photos of this tree, an old lady approached us and told us that this tree was the $5 note tree.

Wilson and I were like "Umm sorry, but what $5 tree?!"
The lady then told us the tree was printed behind the Singapore $5 note..
We thought about it for awhile and realized! And we didn't even know it's this tree! hahaha.

I wonder whether everyone knows about it or only some people?

Swan Lake

The Swan Lake was added as a feature of the Botanic Gardens in 1866. Its landmark island with the big clump of elegant nibong palms has become a timeless facet of the landscape of the Gardens. The pair of mute swans was imported from Amsterdam. As well as providing scenic vistas, the lake is an important water supply for the Gardens.

Sunshine Angel

Finally watched finished Sunshine Angel / Sunny Girl. First time watching a whole series of a Taiwanese drama and it's really nice. (: Really nice movie so you got to watch it! I watched it online.

I didn't manage to find the whole series with English Subtitles so I just bear with Chinese ones as I didn't want to wait for them to release. There were some parts I didn't really understand but managed to figure out what they meant. Guess I should watch more Chinese shows to improve my Chinese. Enjoy watching :D

Plot Summary

A heavily indebted maid Sunshine (Rainie Yang), a successor to a rich corporation Di Ya Xin (Wu Chun), fated to meet together because of a mistake when parachuting. Sunshine has to be a main to repay her parents’ debt, while Di Ya Xin becomes poor after bankrupt. Their love relationship is inseparable.

Synopsis

Sunshine is a poor, but cheerful Japanese girl who lives with her sacrificing, loving grandmother. Her parents have passed away due to car accident, and she was adopted by a kind foster-family. Her foster-father is a Japanese stays in Taiwan, foster-mother is Okinawan. They live in house of the mother of her foster-mother, looks like a happiness family. Despite the fact that they love her, her foster-parents are extremely irresponsible, always want to get rich quick without wanting to work properly, and as a result have left her with a debt of hundred-thousand yen. Her debtors from Taiwan finally give her an ultimatum – if she doesn’t pay her foster-parents’ debt, they will take the ancient house of grandmother, or she becomes a maid for a rich family, using her wages to pay the debt.

She agrees to become a maid, but before she can leave to be maid, Yaxin (the wealthy CEO of a beauty products company “Alovera” which is expanding to Okinawa) falls through the roof of her straw-thatched shower room. It turns out he was parachuting, but his balloon broke. After she threatens him with the wrath of an army of Japanese grandparents, he apologizes to her.

Unfortunately for her, he turns out to be her new boss. Though at first he scorns her for dressing like a old lady and she thinks he’s a pampered, unreasonable child, as days pass they fall in love with each other.

During this time, Gun Fei, who is Yaxin’s childhood friend, is secretly plotting to destroy Yaxin. Though he has moments of uncertainty about what he’s doing, he’s spurred on by his dad’s commands and his love for Angela, who loves Yaxin and does everything she can to be by his side. Despite all three being childhood friends, Angela never seemed to notice that Gun Fei has loved her ever since she began loving Yaxin.

Despite her obvious affection, Yaxin is preoccupied with his work and doesn’t spend time with her, causing her to react jealously when she realizes that he actually spends more time with Sunshine. As Sunshine continues to work for him, her infectious optimism begins to grow on Yaxin and he starts to fall in love with her.

Angela then desperately announces her engagement to Yaxin, lying to her mother (who has been like a mother to Yaxin ever since his own parents died), that she’s already talked to Yaxin. She also accidentally kills Sunshine’s grandmother after hitting her with her car. Gun Fei uses this to force her to leave and study for a year, telling her that he can’t bear to see her with a man who doesn’t love her. Sunshine, who has paid off her debt, also disappears for a year after she finds out that Yaxin is getting engaged.

A year later, due to chance, they all meet up again. Yaxin tells Angela that he doesn’t love her and plans to propose to Sunshine under the pretense of selling back to her the house which he bought after her parents sold it. Unfortunately, Geng Fei has became powerful enough to bankrupt both he and Angela’s mom, who owns the other half of the company. Angela strikes a killing blow by giving Geng Fei both her mom’s and Yaxin’s flashdrives, which Gun Fei promptly destroys. Yaxin is soon removed from his position in the company, his house is foreclosed, and he becomes a homeless heir. In this time, Yang Guang is there to help him through his rough times and they bond even more and work together to help Yaxin take back the company.

Trivia

The original title of the drama is Sunny Girl, but Wu Chun suggested to have the name changed to Sunshine Angel. The Chinese version name change is adopted, but official site of TV channel continue to use the initial English name.

Oriolo Cafe + Bar & The White Rabbit

I rarely get to meet Wilson due to his National Service so whenever he books out, we always treasure the limited time we have together.

A few weeks back, 9th September, he brought me to Oriolo Cafe for lunch :D he wanted to surprise me with another place but unfortunately I didn't wake up on time therefore he had to cancel the reservations as it couldn't be pushed forward to a later time.

Oh well, having lunch at Oriolo Cafe wasn't a bad decision at all. It was a last minute decision as we were already at town and our stomachs were growling so we settled down at the Cafe.

We had to wait for around 5-10mins as there was a queue outside.

He made reservations already and I wasn't aware of the venue yet. But I somehow figured out that he was going to surprise me. (:

Emotional Eating, why and how to avoid it

Received this article from an email and I thought I'll just share it with you all. (:

Emotional eating is something that we can all get hit by and is
something that we need to understand the triggers of and how to
deal with. I never seem
to fall into the trap of emotional eating which can involve
people eating large amounts of food to comfort themselves and get
rid of the bad or tough feelings and situations that we can run
into in everyday life.

The trouble is that often emotional eating can be caused by bad
feelings about our weight and self image and we sabotage
ourselves using food as a short term fix.

There are really five kinds of situations where we can get
triggered emotionally and that may lead to emotional eating.
(Thanks to medicinenet for these)

Social - Eating when around other people. For example, excessive
eating can result from being encouraged by others to eat; eating
to fit in; arguing; or feelings of inadequacy around other
people.

Emotional - Eating in response to boredom, stress, fatigue,
tension, depression, anger, anxiety or loneliness as a way to
"fill the void."

Situational - Eating because the opportunity is there. For
example, at a restaurant, seeing an advertisement for a
particular food, passing by a bakery. Eating may also be
associated with certain activities such as watching TV, going to
the movies or a sporting event, etc.

Thoughts - Eating as a result of negative self-worth or making
excuses for eating. For example, scolding oneself for looks or a
lack of will power.

Physiological - Eating in response to physical cues. For example,
increased hunger due to skipping meals or eating to cure
headaches or other pain.

And what do many people do? Grab a tub of ice cream or cookies or
other comfort food to try to make feeling bad feel better. If you
are not in the situation this can seem crazy but in the situation
and doing this emotional eating will feel really natural. Trying
to fill a void with the great feelings of yummy food.

Trouble is yummy food can not fix a problem.

So the best and really only thing that you can do is to distract
yourself. I have found myself that there is no talking yourself
or reasoning yourself out of an emotional problem or issue so a
good distraction until your emotions go away and you can reason
things is much better. Here are a few things you can do:

Watch some light TV - Get yourself out of the thought pattern
that is causing your emotional distress
Talk to a friend about their problems - problem solving not your
stuff but someone elses will get your mind fixing something else
Go and exercise - This can be a crutch in itself but really if
you can concentrate on the issue of the exercise hopefully it
switches the emotion to another issue

You can see from above that these are just a few things that you
can do, there are a multitude more but the real idea is to get
away from what is causing you pain right now. and then a few
minutes or hours later you can revisit the problem in a detached
way and find real solutions to your problems.

We all get too close to our own issues emotionally and blow them
up so that they are insurmountable. By breaking away from our
emotional explosions we can get some distance and avoid the
emotional eating that can be so dangerous to our psyche and our
eating goals

(1) Fine:
This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes:
If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing:
This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in “Fine.”

(4) Go Ahead:
This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh:
This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That’s Okay:
This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks:
A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you’re welcome. (I want to add in a clause here – This is true, unless she says ‘Thanks a lot’ – that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say ‘you’re welcome’ . that will bring on a ‘whatever’).

(8) Whatever:
Is a woman’s way of saying F–YOU!

(9) Don’t worry about it, I got it:
Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking ‘What’s wrong?’ For the woman’s response refer to # 3.
