Little ones can adopt the same eating habits that their parents exhibit. Parents and child care providers alike are the first role models that children will ever encounter when it comes to healthy eating. Children make awesome observers, so when they see what is happening in the kitchen, they can create a complete dialogue on the same things that are happening in the kitchen, but in their own little world with their invisible friends, for example. In several studies relating to the eating patterns that children follow, researchers found that preferences for certain foods and other eating habits were traced to the patterns and the preferences that their parents and other adult role models exhibited.</p>
<p>As kids move from bottles to solid foods, they begin to develop their eating habits, and these are the habits that follow them throughout their lives. Healthy eating habits that begin at an early age will continue to follow these children through to adulthood. Since it is documented that eating healthfully can prevent illness, it is vital that the role models for these children begin to offer apples, carrots and other healthy treats in place of sugar laden treats like candy and chocolate. Little ones are going to eat the things that they see their parents eating, so it is vital that you act accordingly, exhibiting healthy eating habits so that your children may follow along.</p>
<p>Parents are not always aware of the fact that they are such a major influence on their children and what they learn to eat. Research has shown that the attitude about food that children develop is nearly as genetic as their eye color, which can put a lot of stress on the parents. But if you understand the true implications behind a scientific study like this, then you will be able to raise healthier and happier children in the long run. A healthier parent means healthier children, hands down.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.getfitslowly.com/2008/09/15/how-to-raise-healthy-kids-my-parenting-dilemma/">Teaching your children healthy eating habits</a> is not as difficult as you might imagine. It begins by you exhibiting healthy eating habits of your own, which is something that your children can pick up on. As your children watch you eat healthfully, they will want to do the same. Keep unhealthy foods out of the house, and your children will never pick up on eating these foods. Eating bad food is a habit just as eating good food is a habit, so replace bad dietary choices with healthy choices and your children will learn how to be healthy and smart in their food choices. As your children get old enough to make their own choices, teach them about nutritional labels and how to determine which foods are the best to eat and which are not. You will never have complete control over your child's eating habits, especially as he or she ages, but the more you teach and influence while they are young, the more lasting influence you will have in the future when it truly matters.</p>

Often, it is quite simple to make that first step and become motivated, but if you can’t stay that way, chances are your diet will not be as successful as it could be. While each person needs to <a href="http://www.weightladder.com/2007/07/10/motivation/">find their own motivator</a>, there are some tips that can help you find the right motivation and keep your momentum going.</p>
<p>First, it is important to find a motivation that is based on more than just “losing weight.” This is probably the first motivator that many people turn to, but when faced with deprivation of their favorite foods, and lots of exercise, it’s all too easy to fall back and lose that motivation. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with having this <a href="http://www.getfitslowly.com/2008/03/04/the-carrot-and-the-stick-motivation-to-exercise/">motivation</a>, it may be necessary to break it down a little more than that to help you find a way to keep your motivation going full steam ahead.</p>
<p>One of the easies ways to do this is to look beyond that nebulous “lose weight” phrase and break it down. Why do you want to lose weight? What do you hope to accomplish by losing weight? By breaking it down you can begin to develop weight loss goals that go beyond numbers, and these are powerful tools that can help you stay motivated for the long term. Each time you reach one of those goals, you’ll feel that rush and the desire to stay on track to reach the next one.</p>
<p>Write down everything that you hope to achieve by losing weight. If the phrase “so people will like me more,” or a variant of that crops up, immediately delete it. So many people use this as a motivator and are crushed when they find that they are no more attractive to others thin than they were when they are heavy. This is the time to be selfish – to take everyone else out of the equation. You need to focus on you since at the end of the day, you are going to be the only one holding the Ben and Jerry’s and facing temptation.</p>
<p>Once you are firmly in your own corner and you have your list of goals, you need to place them in a prominent spot. That way you can easily be reminded of what you are striving for, and you will be more likely to keep moving ahead. Cross off each one as you reach it and you’ll find that the desire to get to the next goal increases with every single check mark.</p>
<p>Motivation is a powerful tool and when used properly, it can be the best way to lose weight. Without the right motivation and the desire to meet your goals, dieting is not only unpleasant, but it can be fruitless. Write up your goals today and then start to put into motion your plan to reach them.</p>

However, there is such a thing as good fat, and if you’re trying to lose weight, it is important to make sure you are getting the right balance of this in your diet. Let’s take a look at the different kinds of fat and learn what you need, and what you don’t need.</p>
<p>We’ll break it down into healthy and unhealthy to make it easier to understand. Make sure that you are reading labels to determine what you are actually eating. In there lies the key to your successful weight loss and getting healthier.</p>
<h3><strong>Healthy Fats</strong></h3>
<p>Omega 3 Fatty Acids – These are the fats that are found in fish, some nuts and some oils. This is a fat that your body absolutely needs and it is actually very good for you. Omega 3’s reduce the risk of heart disease and help you stay healthy. If you’re eating fish, walnuts or using flax oil, don’t let the amount of fat grams scare you off – you actually need those.</p>
<p>Monounsaturated Fats – These are often found in olive oil, avocados and most nuts. Once again, they lower your risk for heart disease, bring up the levels of good cholesterol and lower the bad levels. Even peanut and canola oils are a good course of this essential fat.</p>
<p>Polyunsaturated Fats – This is mainly the type of fat that you’ll find in soy oils, corn oils and other vegetable oils. They carry the same benefits as the fats mentioned above.</p>

<h3><strong>Bad Fats</strong></h3>
<p><a href="http://www.weightladder.com/2008/04/17/methionine-inositol-and-choline-mic-injection/">Cholesterol</a> – This is found in most animal products and too much of it is a very bad thing. You’ll find cholesterol in all types of meat, but it is higher in red meat than in chicken. Eggs are one of the worst offenders but milk and dairy products are also very high in cholesterol. Eating a lot of these foods is a great way to clog up your arteries.</p>
<p>Saturated Fats – Once again, this is a fat found in animal products. It’s usually visible and will have a nasty, waxy appearance. If you’re eating these foods, cut off the visible fat. If you’re drinking milk, buy skim to reduce the overall amount of saturated fats in your diet.</p>
<p>Trans Fats – The most evil of all fats and the most dangerous. This is found in foods that contain modified vegetable oil. By forcing hydrogen through the oil, (often called hydrogenation) the oil is rendered more solid and will have a longer shelf life. It will also last a lot longer in your arteries! You’ll find this in most snacks, French fries and donuts. Limit your intake of this fat as much as possible as it is very deadly.</p>
<p>By eating the right fats, you can end up losing weight and getting healthier. Not all fat is bad, but it isn’t all good either. The key is knowing the difference.</p>

If diets were so effective, there would be no need to keep coming up with new methods and new diet plans, but the sad truth is, the vast <a href="http://www.getfitslowly.com/2008/10/08/the-four-principles-of-superfoods-rx/">majority of diets fail</a>. Why is this and what can you do to change this truth? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why diets fail.</p>
<p>Lifestyle changes are not addressed. This is possibly the biggest issue for dieters. If you are not eating the right foods all the time, and making that commitment to change, chances are, as soon as you do see results from your diet, you’re going to fall back on old habits. It is not easy to completely overhaul your life, but in many cases, if you want to lose weight, and keep it off, that is exactly what you’re going to have to do.</p>
<p>The diet does not offer enough variety. Whether it’s the soup diet, the juice diet, or even some of the more popular diet plans, a <a href="http://www.weightladder.com/5-ways-to-avoid-cheating-on-your-diet/">lack of variety</a> can be a major reason for failure. It’s simply too difficult for many people to eat the same things, day in and day out. Even if you go into a diet plan like this enjoying a certain kind of food, after two weeks of eating nothing but, chances are you won’t feel the same way. Variety is the spice of life, and that is very true with food.</p>
<p>The diet plan does not include any exercise. Plain and simple, if you want to burn fat more efficiently, you’re going to have to get up and move around. Thousands of books come out every year promoting new ways of eating, but many of them fail to add the important component of exercise. </p>
<p>The diet plan focuses solely on water weight. This is a very common issue that affects dieters. When you first start on these plans it seems like weight just magically falls off of you. Then, you go back to eating normally and whoosh – it comes right back. These diets are disheartening at best, and dangerous at worst.</p>
<p>The diet is unsafe. There are many fad diets out there that are simply too extreme to stick to. Whether you’re fasting, or drastically cutting back calories, this results in a lack of energy, and you may simply just feel awful. We all need a certain amount of calories every day for our bodies to function properly. If you’re not getting enough, you will end up feeling lousy and you may even throw off your metabolism.</p>
<p>If you don’t want your diet to fail, remember that lifestyle changes are necessary and exercise should not be avoided. Simply eating better food and moving around more will help you lose weight – and keep it off – and you’ll find that it is much easier to keep going, even though the results may be a little slower.</p>

<h3>Essential Tip #9 - You should always make sure that you are maintaining a mental outlook that is positive and optimistic at all times.</h3>
<p>There is definitely a connection that exists between living healthfully and living well, and having an outlook on life that is positive, cheerful and optimistic. The more positive that you are about your life, even during the hard times, the more successful you will be in achieving good health and wellness in other areas of your life as well. Having a positive outlook may not always seem possible, but if you can force yourself to find positive things in your life, then you can influence your existence in a positive way and ward off bad feelings.</p>
<p>Here is a thought worth keeping with you: It is really hard for you to be unhappy when you are smiling, singing, laughing or doing something that you love. If you're feeling unhappy, force a smile. It may not be pleasant at first - But give it a minute - The warm feelings will kick in. </p>
<h3>Essential Tip #10 - While you cannot choose your parents, something that you can do is to counteract the genes that were handed to you.</h3>
<p>The link that you find between good health and genetics is one that is quite powerful and that simply cannot be denied no matter how we would like to try. Just because one of your parents or even both of your parents happened to have poor health or to die prematurely, that does not mean that there aren't steps that you can take in order to counteract the genes that were handed down to you. If you practice good health and wellness, then there is no reason why you cannot outlive your parents and other family members. </p>
<p>In fact, if you have a family member with a genetic condition or some other health issues, you should take it as a lesson to improve your health so that you do not fall prey to the same health issues. There is nothing set in stone that states that you are destined to follow the same path in health and wellness as your family - So let this be an opportunity for you to take an entirely new path. It really does not take much to change your health - You simply have to be willing to live consciously of your health and your personal wellbeing so that you can constantly take steps to improve those things in your life.</p>
